Do you know if turbotax is also good for estimated quarterly taxes?
HereWeGoMemberI actually tried youtube first, and didn’t find anything useful, so go for it, ItcheSrulik! Torahanytime does seem to have some useful ones- thanks, WIY! In case anyone else is wondering, chabad.org also has a few good ones.
HereWeGoMemberI went to Orange on Malchei Yisrael (Geula) and they had a list of Kosher phone options. I think I paid 200 shekels for the phone (That was a piece of junk, so now I bought a better used one.), and I pay about $12 per month. I don’t remember how many minutes I got- something like 500 to kosher phones, 500 to landlines, and a small amount per minute to non-kosher cells.

HereWeGoMemberWhat an amazing resource- thanks!!
HereWeGoMemberOkay, thanks for all the advice. Guess I’ll just scratch that plan and go for better time management.
October 23, 2011 11:14 am at 11:14 am in reply to: URGENT PLEASE HELP the israeli embassy has gone to sleep! #819196HereWeGoMemberI went on a one-way ticket with a European airline, and when it came up in random conversation at the counter that it was a one-way ticket, they just said that’s usually not allowed for a non-citizen. But nothing else happened. I also went on the return flight to Israel from a round trip El Al ticket, and nobody said anything about me not being a citizen.
HereWeGoMemberI’m also a BT… I’d say learning is the way to go. She might not see the beauty of Shabbos (or Yiddishkeit) right now, but that vision can fade at times anyway. Why not focus on the fact that it’s the emes and we are here to improve ourselves and grow closer to HaKadosh Baruch Hu by living a life full of Torah? If she were a bit older, I’d say send her to a BT seminary. Maybe there’s some sort of BT teen learning program she can attend during a school vacation time? Gateways? Oorah? Reading something on basic emunah might help as well. She’s a lucky girl to have such caring friends to lean on!
HereWeGoMemberUmmm I’m not sure about that… ever been to Har Nof? Ramat Beit Shemesh? Paris? Rome? The English speakers tend speak English there, too. So that rule doesn’t seem so fair.
HereWeGoMemberI think it’s chatzos meaning midNIGHT- so between 1:02am and 4:21am.
HereWeGoMemberI learned, at least for women, it’s ok to say brachos and then make kiddush and eat, and then daven everything else. I think the reason was women are not necessarily obligated to daven shachris/mussaf, so they “daven” and then make kiddush and eat, and the rest of the davening is extra.
Also, I learned to drink water before brachos because you can eat/drink only after kiddush if it’s time for kiddush, so you need tomake sure you haven’t davened anything yet, so it’s for sure not time for kiddush at that point. It would make sense that at that point you can eat, too, especially if on a regular weekday you don’t always say brachos before eating/davening (chassidishe women?).
HereWeGoMember“Why are people always so concerned about what others do?”
When I am a guest somewhere for Shabbos, I often question the parents simply because I want to learn from them. I go to different families to see what it is like to raise a family in different areas. I was curious to read this thread because I wanted to see different views. I really don’t think the question is at all hurtful. They made a decision to not push davening, and many people would not mind sharing why.
HereWeGoMemberFrom what I’ve seen, a man might call his wife “ma/ima” not for tznius reasons. When I’ve heard it, the wife calls the father “Tatty”, too. I think they do this because they want to model for their children and don’t want the child to use his parent’s name to address him/her.
HereWeGoMemberim stuck on one actually “i will not be taken advantage of” see even if you rearrange the sentence, that clause will still have a dangling preposition. now you COULD sat “i will not be exploited” but wheres the fun in that eh? 😛
Of me advantage will not be taken?
HereWeGoMemberSmiling Is Infectious
Author Unknown
Smiling is infectious,
you catch it like the flu,
When someone smiled at me today,
I started smiling too.
I passed around the corner
and someone saw my grin.
When he smiled I realized
I’d passed it on to him.
I thought about that smile,
then I realized its worth.
A single smile, just like mine
could travel round the earth.
So, if you feel a smile begin,
don’t leave it undetected.
Let’s start an epidemic quick,
and get the world infected!
HereWeGoMemberThe cheapest car service I know of from Lakewood is about $95 to almost Lakewood. I know there is a bus from Port Authority in Manhatten to Lakewood for about $15, but don’t know how difficult it is to get to Port Authority from JFK, especially with a lot of luggage. I’d imagine your better off finding a driver. Hatzlocha!
HereWeGoMemberI’ve never been to any of these communities, actually. I am hoping to spend Shabbos in Passaic and Baltimore. Even if I’m not such a fan of one right now, it’ll be nice to know about them for later. Thanks again for all the amazing advice!
HereWeGoMemberWow, thanks so much for all the effort everyone! At this point I think I’m going to end up trying out Baltimore. The problem with Brooklyn is I think I do want another baal tshuva, and because most went to college before yeshiva, many seem to be in the large baalei tshuva yeshivos in their mid-to-late-twenties. So it seems like a community with one of those seems to be my best bet. And Monsey and Baltimore seem the best on that front. So out of those 2, Baltimore seems like a better community for me. Am I way off-base?
HereWeGoMemberIt’s not so much that I’m escaping from any sort of system. I haven’t had any bad experiences or anything. It’s just that I’m realizing it’s probably not what I’m looking for on a long-term basis, so it’s time to try something new. So I’m looking for somewhere not necessarily segregated, but where there are others like me so I can fit in a bit.
