Stam -“Perhaps i’m wrong but i remember reading that there is no vaccine for scarlet fever but somehow that was eradicated”
Funny, I once came down with Scarlet Fever. So how come you claim it was eradicated? B’H nowadays we have antibiotics to treat it.
It’s unfortunate that people can post anonymously on the internet, because anyone can post anything and the gullible people will believe there is some validity to it!
August 30, 2015 3:30 am at 3:30 am in reply to: Letter from Rabbonim that Schools Must Accept Non-Vaccinated Children #1099282HealthParticipantdbrim – “Studies that have been conducted using time series designs (non-experimental) definitely challenge the belief (yes, it is a belief) that vaccines are effective in eradicating diseases”
Are you joking? If not, what happened to smallpox and/or polio? They just disappeared?!?
August 28, 2015 4:39 am at 4:39 am in reply to: Letter from Rabbonim that Schools Must Accept Non-Vaccinated Children #1099248HealthParticipanttechnical20 – “a lot of people in the yeshivish community would probably say that once someone becomes a “Gadol,” it’s impossible to ever disagree with them. In fact, many would cry “?? ???? ?? ???? ??? ????? ?? ???? ?????” – “????? ???? ?? ?? ???? ???? ???? ??? ???? ???? ????”.”
Yes, I’ve heard that many times. But it’s Not so Pashut; I’ve also heard the Din of Lo Susser only applies in the times of the Bais Hamikdush!
August 27, 2015 6:40 pm at 6:40 pm in reply to: Letter from Rabbonim that Schools Must Accept Non-Vaccinated Children #1099238HealthParticipantstam a deya – “My 20 year old daughter who was vaccinated had her blood tested and long and behold, all the vaccine benefits were gone (except ofcourse the chickenpox which we didn’t give her). So what does that tell me? All of us adults are more or less NOT VACCINATED!”
So please read my post to Chance.
“So now what happened to herd immunity?”
From Wikipedia:
“Herd immunity (also called herd effect, community immunity, population immunity, or social immunity) is a form of indirect protection from infectious disease that occurs when a large
percentage of a population has become immune to an infection, thereby providing a measure
of protection for individuals who are not immune.”
“I am neither pro or anti and am somewhat confused. But for some of you to call the anti people rotzchim etc…only shows how ignorant you are of the facts.”
Please don’t call us ignorant! We have a lot of knowledge. I constantly seek the Emmess (truth). The real Emmess comes from Hashem. Seek and you should find it.
HealthParticipantDaasYochid – “Goq, I think you owe Health the apology”
Thank you! I think some people think that by using the word “sometimes” that we can’t figure out what they’re really saying. And the Chutzpah of some people to defend this, I can’t understand!
August 27, 2015 2:38 pm at 2:38 pm in reply to: Letter from Rabbonim that Schools Must Accept Non-Vaccinated Children #1099228HealthParticipantChance -“I actually know they dont work because my vaccinated child got a ” vaccine preventable disease”. I wonder what he will come down with next. I guess vaccines only work in peoples mind”
Actually the reason your child got a preventable disease, is because of people like you! People like you have convinced the government that vaccines are bad. So the government has made the vaccines not as strong as they used to be!
HealthParticipantGoq – “ok health you can wear blinders if you choose to”
I know exactly what goes on, but don’t make general statements!
HealthParticipantGoq – speak to yourself! I’m Yeshivsh and Erlich & lawful.
HealthParticipantItche – Your line is not funny – because -“Chulda” was a Neviah! Your Chulda probably isn’t, unless she’s a Cheresh, Shotah or Ketanna”
So what is your joke?
HealthParticipantshuli -“I don’t know how people make these big, fancy weddings without filing for bankruptcy the next day.
Do you take out a loan? Remortgage your home?
Is this a normal thing to do in the yeshivish world?
And why are the parents paying for this?”
It’s easy! The other side paid for Everything. And I still don’t know – WHY!
August 26, 2015 4:23 am at 4:23 am in reply to: Letter from Rabbonim that Schools Must Accept Non-Vaccinated Children #1099205HealthParticipantThe problem is these parents claim it’s against their religion, therefor the first thing we have to do is set them straight! Acc. to our religion these parents are Rotzchim, nothing more, nothing less.
HealthParticipantItche – The problem with your line is the Gemmorah was making a pun. Because “Chulda” was a Neviah! Your Chulda probably isn’t, unless she’s a Cheresh, Shotah or Ketanna.
HealthParticipantSyag Lchochma -“A relative of mine was told he could not dye his grey hairs even after it was given more than once as the reason for rejecting the shidduch”
Do the girls reject gray hair in the beard or only in the hair?
HealthParticipantOOmis – I don’t mind to marry an obese girl. And besides, if a woman won’t control her weight – it’s good for my business!
HealthParticipantAbba_S -“This is assuming that she is not over 350 lbs & 5’5″, then there might be a health problem.”
There might be a health issue, even if the girl isn’t a 300 pounder!
“Wealth isn’t all it’s cracked up to be. Thirty years ago I knew of a case a couple was about to be engaged the groom’s father wanted the promised 5 years of income @ $30,000.00 per year,so he could learn, which was a lot of money back then”
Is she still around? I’ll take 30 grand, even nowadays! The only thing is the $ has to remain in the girl’s Reshus. (Legal issues)
HealthParticipantYou have to ask a Shailah. I heard it’s Mutter in some instances.
HealthParticipantI have one email address, but they probably don’t want it given out. Why don’t you call them? They’re in lower Manhattan.
HealthParticipantMiriam377 – “I was pretty heavy when I got married and kept putting on weight”
Obviously, the best thing is to lose weight, by diet & exercise. When it doesn’t work – you should have a lipid profile. Depends on the result, you might need Medication(s)!
HealthParticipantTo e/o: It definitely sounded like criticism. Esp. when the word “heck” was used!
Mr. Yid, what are you criticizing?
HealthParticipantWolf – “If you’re going to start a thread about a news item or mailbag item posted on YWN, please include a link”
Instead of criticizing, why don’t you give an opinion? If you agree, then fine. If not, tell us why!
HealthParticipantArizona it is. I’m in LA and it’s No accident!
July 30, 2015 4:28 am at 4:28 am in reply to: Is the Outrage Over The Killing of Cecil the Lion Justified? #1154173HealthParticipantWhy isn’t there demonstrations every time there is an abortion?!?
HealthParticipantNo one is mature enough to get married at 20, and a lot aren’t ready at 30, so why Wait?!?
They should start going out at 18. If they want to go to EY, they should go out there.
July 27, 2015 4:02 pm at 4:02 pm in reply to: Replacement idiom for "when the fat lady sings" #1134844HealthParticipantHow about – “It ain’t over – till Joe gets his post in!”
HealthParticipantCA – “health, why can’t a male rest on someone”
It could, but Not enough to make it a Sofek!
HealthParticipantSam2 – “Health: It would depend on how many carry WNV, probably. If I’m in Panama, though, it’s for sure Muttar.
See the Shulchan Aruch on trapping bees. According to the M”B it’s Muttar even if you know it’s not diseased. According to the Aruch HaShulchan, it might be Assur”
You just contradicted yourself! It might be Muttar even acc. to the AH. Sofek Nefushos!
HealthParticipantCA – if it lands on you, there is only one Safek.
HealthParticipantI was in a taxi & we had a convo. He was pro Trump & I didn’t agree. I do think we need a republican pres. But what I did agree with him – that he will bring out the issues that the other candidates would like to sweep under the carpet! This is true with fellow republicans & especially true with the demoncrats.
HealthParticipantmodeh ani – “health,ma li katla kula ma li katla palga”
I have a Shaila – can you kill a mosquito on Shabbos, because it might have WNV?
HealthParticipantRedleg – “P.S I’m 72 years old”
Ad Maiuh V’esrim!
“Yeah, I had to take the Red Cross course in CPR and the use of the AED for my work”
My point is e/o should take it, whether for work or Not!
HealthParticipantRedleg – ” When you speak of young people dying, how young are you talking about? 20 somethings ofr40 somethings?”
In between!
Btw, do know CPR?
HealthParticipantubiquitin – “What is there to add? 99% of your post is something that 100% people would agree on.”
If e/o agrees, why aren’t there more people getting tested? I know there’s always a certain amt. that won’t, no matter what, but it seems to be a lot more than that!
“The only part that MIGHT be more nuanced is lipid profiles, which the general consensus is to check all at age 35, those with risk factors at 25.
Even if you insist that lieterally everybody should have lipid profile regrdless of age or risk stratification. I still wouldnt argue since the expense and risk are minimal.”
Nope!
“So what are you looking for? machlokes lesehem machlokes?”
Not at all, just posting for an awareness for e/o!
HealthParticipantIch Vais – If I post that’s it’s only a Chumra, saving lives, then I’ll get people to post on this topic. Any comments, either pro or con?
How many guys/gals here have had lipid profiles?
HealthParticipantCA -“habah lhargecha haskeim vhargo”
Wrong! Al Pi Rov – the insect just wants a drop of BLOOD! Most of them don’t carry WNV.
HealthParticipantRebYidd23 – “I just killed a mosquito.”
MURDERER!!!!
HealthParticipantNewbee -“But ALL doctors shake hands. You cant be a doctor and not shake your patients hand. What about a male physical therapist?”
You simply don’t know what you’re talking about. If the pt. sticks out her hand, you simply say -“My religion doesn’t allow shaking people’s hands of the opposite gender.”
HealthParticipantDY – “Saving a drowning woman is not derech chibah”
I think the Gemorah calls it that he’s a Chosid Shoteh!
HealthParticipantNewbee – “How would there be orthodox doctors if a handshake is yehareg vehal yavor for everyone?”
What are you talking about? You don’t have to shake people’s hands!
HealthParticipantDoes anyone here agree with me?
HealthParticipantPoster – “That is totally being racist without wanting to sounds bad.”
It’s the truth! Nowadays, the style is, if you don’t like what s/o says, you call him a racist. I think that’s is why the US Supreme Court has become extremely liberal.
HealthParticipantLesschumrahs – “No, the stereotypes were being loud, cutting lines, and strewing garbage. It was just anti-semetic as your racism”
It depends how it was written. If they wrote all Frum Jews in the Catskills, then it was racism. If not, then Not!
HealthParticipantJT – ” Is there anything they can do, besides the wonderful immune system Hashem gave us? “
There is some literature with WNV and interferons, but it’s Not a cure.
Like the saying goes – “An once of prevention, is worth a pound of cure!”
July 6, 2015 9:43 pm at 9:43 pm in reply to: How come I got a headache after the fast instead of during it? #1174319HealthParticipantFT – “So I have fasted on multiple occasions. I usually have 32 oz Gatorade a day two days before and day of fast. Then day after fast and right after fast same thing. I taper off of caffeinated beverages a week before. If I haven’t drank a ton of soda coffee etc, then I just stop. If not I reduce amount in half per day then go to e/o day. So if week before I wound up having two can of coke a day, I try to do 1 a day for two days, coffee based frappe two days later with no caffeine in between and nothing after.”
This is a freebee, nothing more than this! Before the fast you’re correct in cutting down on caffeine, nothing more. Also, eat a lot of carbs, but don’t stuff yer face.
“I broke this fast with bagel and schemear and ice cream plus gatorade.”
Start with Gatorade & OJ, then wait at least 20 min. Then eat; but not a lot.
HealthParticipantJT -“Is it deadly?”
It could be!
HealthParticipantDY – “Health, that is not the only thing you, and others, have said about this topic.”
The only other thing I found was this: “The Frum org. silence is Deafening!” And according to DH -“R’ Moshe Feinstein wrote that all Jews should go down to city hall and talkingt the Koch gay rights bill so it will be known to all the nations that the people of god hate abomination!”
So what are you talking about?!?
HealthParticipantDY – “Health, it’s one thing to hold like others, it’s another to disparage those who hold like R’ Moshe (and other gedolim) as you have.”
You’re Not R’ Moshe’s spokesman! All I said was this: “I really don’t think R’ Moshe ztl would hold nowadays you could support Toaivah candidates, because of all the things they will be implementing in the future”!
Some people can never admit they’re Wrong! It’s Not just you, a lot of Frum people justify themselves by saying the Gedolim did or would hold like them.
HealthParticipantDY – “That’s what everyone says when they don’t like an opinion of R’ Moshe’s.”
First of all, I don’t need to Pasken like R’ Moshe, there are others that argue. Also, how come you have a prob with me, but Not with the post(s) of that the Achronim aren’t too literal, but were done to appease the censor?!?
HealthParticipantDY – “This is what R’ Moshe Feinstein and others zt”l held, and you have no right to have taynas on the Agudah for following this mehalech”
I really don’t think R’ Moshe ztl would hold nowadays you could support Toaivah candidates, because of all the things they will be implementing in the future! I think you and others like you, are in Denial that it will just stop with marriage. This is just the beginning, Lo Alainu.
HealthParticipantDY – “You (and others) make it seem like a clear cut issue, and it’s far from that, with much nuance”
The fact is supporting these politicians will affect us, no matter how you & other Agudists are in Denial! I posted this reason/theory above.
HealthParticipantcoffee addict – “health (and others)
why doesnt this go against seperation of church and state”
It opens a can of worms. You can have openly gay couples in Shuls as long as they claim they’re Orthodox Jews!
