WtP -“From that, I gather he is married with kids.”
Who said – maybe he’s divorced or a widower with kids?!?
HealthParticipantMeno -“What? You said two things that directly contradicted each other. I just quoted those two things. This is the same thing LU was doing. No one is manipulating anything.”
Of course it is! You’re taking my posts out of context.
This is called manipulation!
This is what I really hold:
“If someone collapsed, I posted what any logical person should do.”
“By this I mean anyone with any common sense would know what to do in this situation. If there are people that wouldn’t know this w/o being trained, then those people should be taught at a young age!”
HealthParticipantMeno -“Of course there are! So e/o should learn CPR & first aid.”
That was a response to your post. Here it is again:
“and it’s unreasonable for a person to be trained to deal with every single one, and it is unreasonable to expect an untrained person to be able to act properly under that kind of stress.”
“Of course there are! So e/o should learn CPR & first aid.”
It doesn’t mean that I agreed with your post!
HealthParticipantLU – Thanks for repeating my posts!
Funny that you only repeated the posts that you could manipulate the readers that you’re the one that’s right!
How about repeating this one?!?
“By this I mean anyone with any common sense would know what to do in this situation. If there are people that wouldn’t know this w/o being trained, then those people should be taught at a young age!”
HealthParticipantLU -“Health – you are the one who was poskening. You are poskening that there is a chiyuv for everyone to learn CPR. Sorry, but you are not qualified to posken. All I “poskened” was that you have no basis for your “psak”.”
I never wrote such a thing! You put words into my mouth, so you can say – I’m not right!
Here it is again:
“If you see a person collapse, you are required to do what it takes to save him or her. If you need to have training to do it, (which is not the case here), then you have to get the training!”
I don’t see anywhere that you must learn CPR!
HealthParticipantMeno -“Though I’m still not sure I agree fully, because one of his main points is that CPR is easier to learn that flying a plane, which is true, but it is still not easy enough. The level at which most people learn CPR is not really adequate to help in a real life situation, and to expect them to learn more than that is unreasonable.”
You’re the one that claims that you can only help out if you had some training – I guess that you know better than the AHA!
“Is there really? Maybe there is a chiyuv to become a doctor and a firefighter also”
I never implied or said that!
Oh btw, I am like a FF & like a physician, personally!
HealthParticipantLU -“The correct comparison would not be to washing Negelvasser; it would be to learning all the halachos that can possibly ever come up in your lifetime, even those that don’t come up at all in most people’s lifetimes.
So until a person has learned all the halachos in all four sections of the Shulchan Aruch, I’m not so sure he would be allowed to waste time learning CPR which he may never need and which (according to your prior posts) involves a lot time and effort over an extended period of time to learn.”
Please don’t come here with your Psak Halachos!
You can learn other things in life, like how to drive a car.
In this case, you’re putting the Torah into practicality!
“Additionally, it’s a bit shver to put it in the same category as things that we are chayiv to learn and put into practice according to halacha, unless you know poskim who posken that it is a chiyuv.”
I know what the Torah requires of a Jew. If you see a person collapse, you are required to do what it takes to save him or her. If you need to have training to do it, (which is not the case here), then you have to get the training!
HealthParticipantMeno -“The case with the pilot is not hypothetical. It actually happened.”
You are correct – it did happen, probably more than your one case that you brought down.
I actually did a search on the net, after you posted it.
Now tell e/o what’s the difference between the two cases!
“It’s a lot to ask from a person to practice a lot just to prepare for an unlikely occurrence.”
True, but the other option is to do it w/o any practice!
Btw, the AHA is doing just that for e/o!
Now let’s talk about Jews, even if you aren’t interested in doing it because it’s morally correct, but there is a Chiyov.
So unless you’re the type of person that doesn’t wash Negel Vasser when it’s not convenient, then you can’t make excuses in this case!
HealthParticipantMeno -“There is actually a very strong correlation. They are both emergency situations which will result in death if appropriate immediate action is not taken. Now you explain why they are different. (Actually you don’t have to, because ubiquitin already did an excellent job explaining it)”
I did explain it! Maybe you didn’t see it?!?
Anyways, here it is again:
“I asked what you would do if you were in that situation that was shown in the video. It wasn’t a hypothetical question perse.
Her case with the pilot is purely hypothetical!
I hope you Now understand the difference!”
“There’s just one more thing I want to point out. There’s a difference between KNOWING the proper steps to take in an emergency situation and being ABLE to take the proper steps. Being a trained EMT means more than just knowing the steps, it means being able to stay calm and think with a clear head. It’s just not easy for the average person to do that, and I don’t think someone should be criticized for immediately calling Hatzalah rather than trying to remember all those steps in an emergency situation.”
Who says EMT’s or any medical professionals think with clear heads?
It’s not something that can be taught! B’H, most do.
The same thing with laymen in any emergency situation!
The trick that people do – to stay calm – First, take CPR & first aid.
Next – practice it a lot. You can buy your own manikin for cheap!
HealthParticipantUbiq -“Even if rare for an individual collectively it isnt rare. Etc.”
This must be a first for me!
+1
HealthParticipantLU -“If you have a reason why you think that Meno’s argument is not a valid argument, please state it. But to keep repeating your initial assertion is not a response.”
“Here it is again, for those that didn’t understand it the first time:
“If someone collapsed, I posted what any logical person should do.””
By this I mean anyone with any common sense would know what to do in this situation. If there are people that wouldn’t know this w/o being trained, then those people should be taught at a young age!
Every Frum guy or girl learns how to wash Negel Vasser in the morning. I don’t think that this is any different, even if it’s not so common!
HealthParticipantLU -“You said that people need to know what to do in the situation of someone collapsing (even though it’s not common) because it is life threatening. So Meno pointed out that according to that logic, everyone should know what to do for any life threatening situation, such as a pilot falling dead”
That’s what happens when you think you understand s/o else’s logic!
I asked what you would do if you were in that situation that was shown in the video. It wasn’t a hypothetical question perse.
Her case with the pilot is purely hypothetical!
I hope you Now understand the difference!
This isn’t Rocket science.
HealthParticipantLB -“Health: Not sure how every 8-10yr has enough life experience and awareness to be solely responsible for gauging whether or not a scene is safe.”
OK. We’ll only teach 8 – 10 yo, only to do it on people that they know!
“Also you’re saying that every child 8+ needs to have a cell phone on hand for emergencies.”
No. They could notify s/o else who does.
HealthParticipantMeno -“Then by the same logic, every boy & girl, ages 8-10 should be taught how to fly a plane.”
Again, there’s No correlation between what I wrote and s/o learning to fly a plane!
HealthParticipantAvram -“This updated guidance seems geared towards encouraging more bystanders, even those untrained, to do something.”
That’s exactly the point! “Untrained”
It’s beyond me, some of the posts in this topic!
HealthParticipantLU -“If you have a reason why you think that Meno’s argument is not a valid argument, please state it. But to keep repeating your initial assertion is not a response.”
What does a pilot losing his ability to fly have to do with this topic?
There is absolutely no correlation!
Here it is again, for those that didn’t understand it the first time:
“If someone collapsed, I posted what any logical person should do.
If you’re saying it has to be taught – then every boy & girl, ages 8-10, should be taught it!”
HealthParticipantMeno -“Sorry, maybe I should have been more clear.
I was saying that according to your logic, everyone should learn how to fly a plane in case they are in a DIFFERENT situation (i.e. not the same as the one being discussed thus far), where a pilot drops dead mid-flight.”
Sorry, you’ve made e/o more confused! Not more clear!
If someone collapsed, I posted what any logical person should do.
If you’re saying it has to be taught – then every boy & girl, ages 8-10, should be taught it!
HealthParticipantYidd23 -“A person who is not trained to help in any way can’t do anything except call for help”
From previous:
“Wrong! They should
Step 1:
Check to see if the scene is safe.
Step 2:
Etc…”
HealthParticipanttakahmamash – Thanks for the info!
HealthParticipantYidd23 -“It depends. If they look like they’re doing it on purpose as a game, frown and move on. If it looks like something is really wrong, I’d ask him to see if he responds. If he says he’s okay, I’d move on.”
And then you wrote:
“A person who is not trained to help in any way can’t do anything except call for help”
Well; which one is it?!?
HealthParticipanttakahmamash -“What is the Ravs name?
Rav Simcha Shafran, of Baltimore”
I’m not familiar with that part. Is it Randalstown?
What’s the name of his Shul? Not the same as Max’s Shul?
HealthParticipantGamanit -“Health- requesting additional assistance- even as EMT- is part of scene size up. It is prior to checking level of consciousness. Below are the steps of scene size up:
Request additional help if necessary”
Well, did you pass your EMT course? How many times did you end up taking it, till you passed?
Why don’t you read your own post before you write it?!?
You wrote “if necessary”!
Think before you respond to me.
And if you want me to explain it, I would have to charge you.
HealthParticipantMeno -“So by that logic, everyone should learn how to fly an airplane, in case the pilot drops dead mid-flight”
That’s illogical!
Our case is s/o is on the ground!
HealthParticipantLU -“They should call for help right away”
Wrong! They should
Step 1:
Check to see if the scene is safe.
Step 2:
Etc…
HealthParticipantUbiq -“”Will Hillary ever truly concede the election?!?”
speaking of fantasizing This is her speech from November 9″
I remember the speech.
You must’ve missed the word “truly”!
But that’s all-right – all DemonCrats, like Hillary, are fraud, phony, fakers! (Bob Grant)
HealthParticipantMeno-“It’s very easy to give instructions for one specific situation, but the reality is that there are a thousand different emergencies one could encounter, and it’s unreasonable for a person to be trained to deal with every single one, and it is unreasonable to expect an untrained person to be able to act properly under that kind of stress.”
Of course there are! So e/o should learn CPR & first aid.
“And if you’ll say that a person collapsing on the floor is more common, so everyone should be prepared – I’ve been alive for quite a few years, and I have never seen it happen, so it can’t be that common.”
I wasn’t talking about more common, but about life threatening!
“Well to start, all the exclamation points”
I always use exclamation points, it doesn’t mean anything!
HealthParticipantcatch yourself -“Suppose that Donald J. Trump is lawfully sworn in as President on January 20, 2017. Will the Hillary Clinton supporters and the Never Trump-ers stop fantasizing about how to prevent his inauguration?”
Of course Not! The Demoncrats will Never stop!
Will Hillary ever truly concede the election?!?
HealthParticipantMeno -“”I wrote false information!”
1.
not according with truth or fact; incorrect.
“the test can produce false results”
synonyms: incorrect, untrue, wrong, erroneous, fallacious,”
Those are all the synonyms. But “wrong” is not correct!
I was going with these synonyms -“flawed, distorted, inaccurate, imprecise;”
“You gotta learn to chill out”
Who said I’m not? I just was being accurate, so people shouldn’t get the wrong impression!
HealthParticipantLU -“I think they are right – you should call hatzalah right away – why waste time, especially if you are completely untrained in dealing with emergencies?”
Unfortunately your post is dead wrong!
My above post was for e/o, especially for laymen ie. those completely untrained in dealing with emergencies!
If every Goy is expected to do what I posted above, & you’re making excuses for Yidden?!?
HealthParticipantMeno -“What was the wrong information they were giving?”
I wrote false information! I don’t get the mag either. But YWN had the video of the incident. They just wrote call Hatzolah. Giving the impression that’s good enough!
I wrote a detailed post what a person should do in that situation – right above!
HealthParticipantLB -“Health: These are from commercials that I heard/watched incessantly in the 90’s growing up.”
The reason I posted is because I want the answers that I don’t know!
So I’ll wait for your reply. You piqued my curiosity.
HealthParticipantLB -“Trix are for….
They’re Grrrre____! [cereal]
Snap, crackle, and…”
OK, you got me on most of them.
Trix are for kids.
They’re Grrreat! Frosted Flakes.
Snap, crackle, and pop. Kellogg’s Rice Krispies
HealthParticipantDY -“what do you think someone should do”
“If you saw s/o laying on the street.
Give it in steps.”
Step 1:
Check to see if the scene is safe.
Step 2:
If it isn’t – don’t approach! Eg. S/O hit by a car and is laying on the Street.
If it is, then go over! Eg. S/O hit by a car and is laying on the Sidewalk.
Step 3:
Check for unconsciousness! Tap on shoulder & ask “Are you okay?”.
If s/he says yes. Ask -“do you need help?”
If no, but you think he’s sleeping or something of that nature, squeeze his shoulder or rub his chest bone hard.
If still no response, call 911 or Hatzolah.
In this case or similar cases’, have s/o else call 911 or Hatzolah.
Step 4:
Push hard and fast in the center of the chest that is 100 to 120 beats per minute!
Step 5:
Continue until s/o trained takes over!
From the American Heart Association (AHA):
“If you see a teen or adult suddenly collapse, call 911 and push hard and fast in the center of the chest to the beat of any tune that is 100 to 120 beats per minute, such as the classic disco song “Stayin’ Alive”. Immediate CPR can double or even triple a person’s chances of survival.”
December 18, 2016 3:40 am at 3:40 am in reply to: renting an apartment in lakewood for a month #1200537HealthParticipantAbba-S -“Your way is to use the shoulder together with a few feet from the home owner wouldn’t work because the shoulder is needed in case a car breaks down.”
I got news for you, Mr. Out of towner, they don’t have shoulders on most of these streets!
“As far as the barriers are concerned, the first accident in which one of these house are damaged the state will be sued for poorly designing the highway.”
That’s not why they’re not expanding.
HealthParticipantShout out to Ubiq!
What’s the answer to my OP?
HealthParticipantDY -“what do you think someone should do, and how did the magazine err?”
No problemo! I’ll do it after Shabbos. But first I’d like more posters to answer my OP question!
HealthParticipantYidd23 -“Hatzalah can call 911”
What is your point exactly?
Why would H call 911?
HealthParticipantLightbrite -“If no one is there and I feel safe, then talk to the person”
You’re the first one that’s even getting close!
The reason I started this topic, because YWN news that they had a article about a video of s/o laying on the ground.
Not only did not one poster get it right, but the magazine in Yiddish was giving e/o false information.
This to me is the most disturbing!
HealthParticipantAhron -“1. See if hes a drunk/homeless”
How are you gonna tell that?!?
HealthParticipantYidd23 -“People who play such games usually are fairly obvious.”
How so?
December 16, 2016 3:34 pm at 3:34 pm in reply to: renting an apartment in lakewood for a month #1200529HealthParticipantAbba_S -“If you widened the roads you would need to confiscate a good part of the front yards of the houses on these roads. The owners would have to be compensated which will make it very expensive. Likewise barrier must be installed to protect the house from the speeding car should the driver lose control of his vehicle”
Not at all! All you would need is a few feet. And the government doesn’t have to put up any barriers!
HealthParticipantAbba_S -“This depends if the person appears to be homeless, in which case I call 911(note I live in NYC), and request an ambulance.”
Why would you do that?
All homeless people lay on the street.
HealthParticipantYidd23 -“If they look like they’re doing it on purpose as a game, frown and move on”
How would you know that?
HealthParticipantLenny1970 -“We’re not in counseling b/c I see it as pointless if she’s giving me the silent treatment to include taking separate cars to counseling. So given what the posters”
The first thing you should do is go for counseling yourself!
Now two things can happen – either she’ll see that you’re trying and go for her own counseling and then the two of you can get marriage counseling or she’ll continue with the divorce.
Either way, the way you’re handling it now, e/o here doesn’t believe that you’re willing to do whatever it takes to save your marriage!
It really doesn’t matter whether you go to Bais Din first or second.
The impression e/o here has of you – it’s either your way or the highway!
December 15, 2016 8:45 pm at 8:45 pm in reply to: renting an apartment in lakewood for a month #1200525HealthParticipantDY -“Not easily for some key ones (e.g. Rt.9). They would need to knock down hundreds of buildings.”
Wrong again! All they need is a few feet. I don’t know any house/bldg. that close to the street!
December 15, 2016 4:44 pm at 4:44 pm in reply to: renting an apartment in lakewood for a month #1200521HealthParticipantDY -“but the roads are an issue which there doesn’t seem to be a way around”
They could expand the roads!
Btw, do you live here?
They are continuing to build here.
As far as expansion of the roads, each one blames the other, ie. State, County, Local governments’!
December 15, 2016 7:13 am at 7:13 am in reply to: DIVORCE CRISIS – young couples getting divorced #1200131HealthParticipantLU -“Do you think that you grew from your experience?”
Who knows? All I can say is – Al Tovay Leday Nisayon!
December 15, 2016 12:56 am at 12:56 am in reply to: DIVORCE CRISIS – young couples getting divorced #1200129HealthParticipantLU -“1. That’s just life. Sometimes people end up married to people who are not right for them and there’s nothing that anyone can do about it because there was is way to know beforehand.
2. Someone had a serious problem that there was no way to know beforehand.
3. Someone had a serious problem that could have been known beforehand.
4. They weren’t a good shidduch, maybe one of them didn’t really like the other one enough to be marrying them, but felt pressurred to get married and this could have been prevented if they either had gone out longer or there had been less pressure put on them or they had used more common sense before getting engaged.
5. The marriage could have worked out if both had been willing to make it work.”
They are all true!
Sometimes Hashem wants people to get married, even if it’s not the greatest Shidduch. People are sometimes given a Nisayon, which they didn’t ask for.
HealthParticipantchala2 -“CALL 911 AND AGAIN 911”
Wrong! 911 is only for emergencies.
I’m not getting into whether s/o should contact the police or not.
HealthParticipantUbiq -“um, no Hillary is a big liar. I have said that repeatedly”
Well, did you vote for her?!?
