    GET A CAT!!

no seriously, if you dont want to see them running around your floor, get used to banging pots around to scare them back into hiding …or maybe get a pet that will scare them/alert you… A dog??? weird reason to get a dog but it might work.

Be careful that you dont seal up holes under your house or walls without getting an exterminator in there. Yes, they can crawl in your walls and under your house but if you trap them in there they will die eventually and then it will stink!!!

shaidel- you are right that people are crazy about what they require in a future spouse. The joke goes that a shadchan asks a guy (can be reversed…just how I was told the joke): “what do you want in a wife?” The boy starts listing: “tall-about 5″4, no bigger than a size 4, from yichus and money but not haughty or self centered about it. Her brothers all went to YESHIVA ABCDE. hmm, I would like her to be from Seminary GHIJK or LMNOP and have been head of chessed in high school. Baalas Middos. Smart girl…..”

Shadchan responds: “What is her name so I can introduce you to her? you seem to have her all picked out”

We are so picky and want them to have no skeletons in the closet, but doesnt everyone have something? We all have A relative that doesnt meet our standards. Unfortunately we all have someone in the family, that had some illness, divorce or some other tzarra…

Just because a family isnt perfect, doesnt mean that you should not go out with them. At least then you know what you are getting into and you know what to research. Other families hide it and then… WHAM! It hits you like a sack of potatoes! ok, a little melodramatic but you get the idea. No idea and it can be the one thing that you wouldnt have agreed to. Anything from genetics to past lives to……Its time we realize that people are human and just like we would want them to ignore or minimize our problems, we should look into the major ones but not weigh heavily non-major issues.

NY Mom- I agree that all families need to havesomeseichel, but I am a little biased cuz I know cases where info wasnt told… But, as I said before, if the person has it under control, is taking their medication regularly and is seeing a doctor/therapist regularly and they think the person is stable enough- fine and date them. I would like nothing less than to see everyone finding their beshert. I just want everyone to tell the truth and the whole truth. The boy has OCD? The girl is ADHD? Even worse scenarios I am ok with but it should be dealt with on a case by case basis. Be truthful and tell before the engagement. It doesnt have to be the first thing out of the mouth but it should be told and to the extent that it pertains to others.

Jothar- What do you mean about “amputating a finger to save a person…. save the BY”? What does one have to do with the other? It seems from your comment that they contradict each other….

I like the fact that the schools need to open up their books so we can see where the money is going.

What are families who cannot afford tuition payments supposed to do at this time when schools are restricting the amount of students they let in at partial cost? I understand the school’s perspective in that they need income to pay for the staff and teachers- the teachers are not doing it for free and in many schools they are not getting paid on time, if at all… Where is all the tuition money going?

in reply to: Budget Crisis! Bais Yaakov of Boro Park Cannot Open Yet This Year #658071

Joseph- do you have any better idea than to just give money and hope they use it properly? What good would throwing money into a sinking pit do? If they dont correct the problem, money wont help. Its like welfare, in a sense- give them the money when they ask and without time limits and they will never look for a job. If you were offered money for free, would you ever look for a better job or fix the problems that are causing you to suffer?

in reply to: Budget Crisis! Bais Yaakov of Boro Park Cannot Open Yet This Year #658062

Jothar- great idea to have real professionals see where the money is going and how to do things cheaper. Many institutions dont shop around for prices or deals, keep doing “what they have always done” when it comes to conducting business or transactions, arent so cost effective, dont look at costs of hiring people they dont need ect. Businesses do it, so should Jewish institutions. I dont mean to be so down on the schools, but many people who are in charge arent professionals or havent been taught all the ins and outs of basic accounting… Not all their fault but they should learn and get tips. Anyone know any professionals who would help these schools for free/tax write off (if legal to do so)??

in reply to: Therapy – To Tell or Not to Tell? #657397

NY Mom- No one should be judged based on disability but it still means that people need to say “it like it is”. If it is on the severe end, it should be told to the family as such. severity is hard to define so it can lead to problems. if they are working on their issues, like you say, then they should not be “on the shidduch market” until it is under control because it is unfair to the future family.

enlightened jew- NY isnt the most expensive. you havent done enough research…. I see you have not mentioned CA, specifically LA (1st big out of town frum community I thought of after NY, NJ and TX which you mentioned) … in LA no house can be found (even small ones) for 100,000…. not even 300,000… in the regular side of town it cant be found for 500,000… so what are you talking about with housing prices being “expensive” in NY???? And no, you dont get a pool with that money. those prices are for 2 bedroom nothings… apartments are also expensive. sales tax is almost 9%. income tax is also staggering. CA is a larger state than NY so “average state taxes ” are not that high but they arent charging the farms what they charge LA city! I know people who live there and it is troubling for them. It is way more expensive to live there than it is to live in NY. But if a person can move to a cheaper place, shouldnt they do that rather than collect money from the city? I am not forcing anyone out, but if someone can help themselves earn a decent living shouldnt they try to not be a collector??

in reply to: Budget Crisis! Bais Yaakov of Boro Park Cannot Open Yet This Year #658051

Joseph-Kosher food is more expensive in out of town areas. So are sefarim, tziyus clothing shops, frum items… many are shipped from NY. In some areas, housing is also more expensive.

Jothar- I am not saying homeschooling is right for everyone. I know people who were (only frum school closed down) and they turned out fine. It could be the best things for some students- personal attention, smaller classes, the subject matter is better molded for the kids ect. It can work best if you do it with small groups of children, not just a single family. That way there is still some interpersonal contact and skills can be learned. Many times in the larger classes, kids are left out and grow up feeling insecure because if they arent the best at something, (or someone special’s son or daughter) they are not noticed or picked for something. This goes for the class play, the song and dance,to be the speaker at the class presentation, to be head of something, to get called on in class. They dont learn skills that way either. They learn to sulk, be silent and to not volunteer for something because they wont be picked anyways.

There are exceptions to every rule. I feel bad about the kid who was brainwashed, as you say Jothar, that this had to happen. But many people who speak about their own experiences share positive thoughts. They end up smarter, more knowledgeable, more on top of their work (depending on the program they might get a certain amount of work per week and as soon as they finished they were done and were able to go out and play), more self-confident.

If running a school is like a business, why then is it “a non profit”? Why do you get a tax write-off for donations to schools??? Why is it considered tzeddaka to help keep it around? It should fail and a new one will exist, if it is needed (law of supply and demand). Why can’t it meet its budget every year?

Professional courtesies are not the norm anymore. Besides, what yeshiva, day school or bais yaakov makes money every year? (turns a profit)?? So according to your words, it should NOT provide any such discount to families that are in chinuch. Why cant it be based on need?

    Question:

Why is tuition so much cheaper in NY (some have quoted as being 6-7000 dollars) vs. out of town yeshivas, and people still complain? Many out of town yeshivas the minimum is 10,000 per child. Cost of living is more expensive out of NY. Maybe it all comes down to budgeting. Schools and families both need to stick to their budgets to pay all their expenses.

in reply to: Budget Crisis! Bais Yaakov of Boro Park Cannot Open Yet This Year #658042

SJS- homeschooling should be seen as a viable option for families that cannot afford tuition or for areas in which there are no schools. All you need is a teacher and a few kids within the same grade-range and a syllabus. 3-4 grade can be together, 5-6th, and 7-8th as well. You set aside half the day for kodesh classes and half for chol. Its like a normal school but tuition is less- no overhead. If every family involved is teaching either kodesh or chol for a grade, then no money needs to be exchanged. If one parent is not, than you need to work out a system. Everyone needs to pay “X” amount, but if you teach a grade, it is deducted. The money that comes in from the non-teachers is split evenly amongst all teachers. You dont need a seperate teacher for math and english, rather the same teacher teaches all the chol classes. Same for kodesh.

Check with the government in your area and find out how to set up such a program. I know someone who did it (not from NY) and they found it rewarding- they taught their kids and knew how much they knew. There was less wasted time explaining the material over and over when it only is needed for one student. There was less busy work. There were smaller classes and the kids got more attention.

in reply to: Budget Crisis! Bais Yaakov of Boro Park Cannot Open Yet This Year #658040

GAW- you didnt answer my point. You skirted the question by saying that 10-20% is usual. I disagree, especially in today’s economy where these things are not done “normally”. I said that the tuition breaks should be based on NEED, not on the job someone might have. Someone could be in chinuch but makes a lot more than someone who has a regular job. Type of profession does not necessarily equate with a certain pay scale. Everyone should need to pay the most they can afford and should not get discounts based on who they are or what their job is.

in reply to: Left Coast: Gov. Schwarzenegger’s Great California Garage Sale #655408

Did you really mean that? 😉

in reply to: Budget Crisis! Bais Yaakov of Boro Park Cannot Open Yet This Year #658031

GAW- I have an issue with your idea of a “professional courtesy”. This idea may be part of the problem why so many schools are having financial trouble. All tuition reductions should be based on financial need only. I have lived in an area where most of the kids in the community school were children of teachers. They happened to have the most kids and they had significant tuition reductions because of the fact that they were in chinuch. The school ended up closing. Why should teachers get a tuition reduction if they can pay? You stated that they should get it regardless of financial need.

[By the way… was there a big commotion about a little school outside of NY closing here? be ashamed because although it is small according to NY standards, it was the ONLY school in the area. It had ALL the kids from the area in it. Some kids ended up in public school, others moved under great financial difficulty to other cities and a few made the 2+ hour commute each way to the next community where there was a school. This happens in many areas around the country all the time.]

in reply to: Budget Crisis! Bais Yaakov of Boro Park Cannot Open Yet This Year #658028

Wait a minute… lets try to do the math here. How many girls schools are in the NY area? You say there are 2000 kids in BYOBP…. The way it sounds is that there are 2000 kids in the whole school, not in every grade. There has to be at least 100 schools that are frum and are commuting distance from BP. so each school has to take in 20 students. That is 20 students from every grade… thats like 2 kids a grade!! And there are probably more than 100 schools, I am just not familiar with every school in the tri-state area. Yes, you can travel to New Jersey for school like some of you travel there for work. Logistically it can happen if need be.

in reply to: Budget Crisis! Bais Yaakov of Boro Park Cannot Open Yet This Year #658020

Joseph- There are so many schools within commuting distance that it should not be a problem. Did you look into schools in: Boro Park, Flatbush, New Jersey (I know its long but I have known people who have commuted longer), Long Island?

As far as I know, convenience does not fall into the category of “pikuach nefesh” when regarding schooling children. It does not get priority if it is just convenience.

I know people who commuted close to two hours to school. I know people who have boarded to go to any Jewish school because they lived so far away from the nearest Bais Yaakov or Yeshiva. They had little kids in their family, the parents had jobs ect and they still managed to do it. If there is a will, there is a way.

Were you advocating for a school to be built closer to them? Why only when you or people you know are affected are you so worried?

If the chasidish live in BP, and I assume they dont want the students from BYOBP, then why dont they help pay for some of the costs?

in reply to: Budget Crisis! Bais Yaakov of Boro Park Cannot Open Yet This Year #658015

Joseph- I dont agree with your comparison. Leukemia treatment is necessary to save a child’s life. You (along with others) may think that his or her spiritual life is also necessary and falls under the same category in halacha. But there are other schools that can satisfy this same spiritual survival. In New York, nonetheless. If you were talking about saving the only frum school (shomer shabbos) in Montana, I would have to agree that saving that school should be high on my priority list. If a school in Brooklyn has to close, there are many schools that could take in the girls. It might not be as close or as convenient but they would still get their Jewish education.

in reply to: Budget Crisis! Bais Yaakov of Boro Park Cannot Open Yet This Year #658013

How about everyone support their local schools to the best of their ability? That way the money is localized and some schools wont be forced to close. I mean, we should support schools that are about to close but we should not forget those closest to our hearts. Arent we supposed to support local institutions before outside ones? So if you live within the vicinity of BYBP or go to the school or once went to the school- support it. Others- check out where you went to high school and see if they can use it. If you didnt go to a frum high school, (I would like to commend you right now for your frumkeit) look to see if one is closing and try to help them.

If we each support our own high school, then we will be able to save a lot of them!

certain medical issues arent genetic, like spina bifida. That one isnt at all, to scientists best knowledge.

There are psychological issues that are: bipolar, schizophrenia

    anyone have any others?

in reply to: Budget Crisis! Bais Yaakov of Boro Park Cannot Open Yet This Year #658010

1st off, all schools should be trimming back, even if they dont feel the crunch at this point. They probably will at some time and they should see the problem before it hits and prepare for it!!

What is wrong with some of these NY mentalities? What is wrong with going to a different school? If the kids are frum, its non-coed, and hashkafa is similar- what is in a name??? Why be selfish??? A community school is a community school. If it feeds to the same seminaries, programs ect then wouldnt the girls be coming out similar? I heard kids call other kids “not frum” because they went to the ‘wrong’ elementary school. I mean- both schools were shomer shabbos, torah and mitzvos. The girls were tzniyus to the same degree. The kids from each school went to similar high schools. they just were not THEIR school. What is wrong with us? You dont see this in smaller communities where there are fewer schools. There, people are friendlier even though they might not be exactly the same.

in reply to: Therapy – To Tell or Not to Tell? #657392

Helpful- I disagree with your statement. Any sort of mental ailment should be told to the prospective side. It just does not have to be on the first date (or before). If this is a concern of yours or someone you know, they should consult a competent Rav about when to tell the other side. Many tragedies occur when mental illnesses are kept hidden. Marital strains and problems, divorces ect. Dont be selfish and only think about the ill person. What about the future spouse, their family, and any future kids that may be born to the family? If it is genetic (many are), imagine finding out after an ill child is diagnosed! Imagine the children growing up in a house where one of the parents are mentally ill??? Living like this requires a special type of person, one who knows what they are getting themselves into when becoming engaged to an ill person.

in reply to: Budget Crisis! Bais Yaakov of Boro Park Cannot Open Yet This Year #657969

why do I even bother– I have listed some ways for the schools to be able to save themselves. Some of these may only work for schools that are feeling the crunch, rather than those who have failed. There are two ways to save a failing institution:

    1. Increase revenue- hard to do in this economy. If a donor had the money to donate, wouldn’t he or she have already given it? Many people cannot take on a new institution to support during such a difficult financial time.

    2. Cut costs- By cutting the costs, it allows the same amount of income to be spread so everyone gets paid. Can be done in a few ways:

    a. Cut out wasteful spending. No need for major trips or activities. Minimize them- dont take as fancy as a trip this year, or take less of them.

    b. Stop with the weekly booklets the schools send home. Make one for the month that has all the pictures and extras in it. Give each child one small packet of their class’s dvar torah, homework (Aleph Beis sheets) and “what we did in Morah Shprintzy’s class this week”. No need to give each kid one that is for the entire section (early childhood ect). Give the Pre-1a class theirs’, and the Gan their’s.

    c. You dont need beautiful bulletin boards and to change them every month. Kids dont really notice them that much. I grew up without huge colored displays and so did many other people and we came out ok. laminate the signs and save them year to year!

    d. cut excess staff. If they arent doing anything- dont hire them! I know there are a lot of people who need jobs, but if you have to split the pay among more staff, each one gets less. If you cant pay for 3 secretaries, only have 2. The last one will have to find a new job. It sounds callous but to save the school, if you dont need the costs- cut them!

in reply to: Reporting News Events – Proper or Chilul HaShem? #655268

Isnt news letoheles harabim? i mean, some news is important to know. Political news makes a difference- how else will we know about candidates and official’s stances? We need to know that there are issues, and can debate them or do more research somewhere else, as to the effect this will have on our lives and subsequent voting.

Some of the scandals are important- tell all frum people that we shouldnt be involved in tax fraud cuz we will be caught eventually.so many frum people are doing tax fraud and it is unacceptable!

in reply to: Budget Crisis! Bais Yaakov of Boro Park Cannot Open Yet This Year #657959

volvie- there is a difference if the family that cannot pay for tuition is eating steak, brisket ect for shabbos every week and if they are eating small portions of chicken ect. I have no problem supporting people who are not eating luxuries… Yes, meat is a luxury. If I pay for my tuition costs and cannot pay for meat all the time, then there is a problem with someone I support having meat on a consistent basis.

Heat- I dont think anyone here is saying that they must freeze. But do they have to set the heat at 75/80 degrees when it is 20 outside? it is ok to put on a sweater inside your house.

Can you please explain why I should pay for someone to have a higher standard of living than I do (and i cannot afford to put them at this place)? Halacha I learned once: You should eat less than you are worth, dress what you are worth and provide for your wife and kids more than you are worth. No one sees what is at your table and you dont want people to think that you are living on a different status than you really are. Re: wife and kids, I think that this is up to a point where you do not need to be supported by others to do it.

IT IS NOT a conspiracy against the Jewish community! How come it seems that many people who live in certain cities in America seem to think that when something happens to a frum person, it must have an anti-Semitic background. Ever think that something could be a mistake? Ever think that it was a newbie who didnt know about hatzala’s status? volvie- I think that GAW was trying to say that they should not be buying New and fancy clothes, red meat ect. Heat, on the other hand, should depend on what the weather is outside. They should not feel frozen, especially if its snowing outside ect. I have a real problem when people who get community assistance are able to live better than my family. There is a store, like many others, who have a tab for the poorer customers and does not force them to pay up. But many of them eat better than my family, who pays their bills and tuition.

I have a heart and try to give money to those who need it. I can’t give much, but I try. So dont say that we dont have a heart and compassion.

I know someone who once worked for a school’s scholarship fund, helping to decide who really needs it or not. He looked at past tax records and saw that if the family took a major trip or vacation, bought a fancy car ect in the last year or two then they were not necessarily given a tuition break, as obviously they were able to pay for these other items, so why not tuition?

in reply to: Altering Photos in Photoshop for Fundraising Purposes – Okay? #655074

    Jose-

I dont think that if someone wears a wrinkled white shirt, their blue shirt will be neatly pressed. I am just saying that we shouldnt categorize people as being “less frum” or worse off because of their blue shirt. I am just saying that people who dress neater should be praised, rather than white shirt/blue shirt. I dont care what they wear as long as it is neat and presentable (up to a point. T-shirts and blue jeans can be neatly ironed but that, by no one’s standards, is professional dress.)

Wearing a blue shirt is not “dressing down” as many business people wear blue shirts, rather than white. Look at many professionals, or if you dont know any, look in at fancy stores. many times the blue shirts cost more than the white ones! Many suits are shown in stores with colored shirts, rather than white. White does not equal fancy, respectable ect. Dressing down means a sloppy look, a casual (non suit) attire, or vacation clothes.

in reply to: Altering Photos in Photoshop for Fundraising Purposes – Okay? #655069

Midwest2- well said! Wearing a colored shirt is not a sign of “going off the derech” or either is wearing a different type of jacket, hat or yalmuka. They have just chosen a different derech but as I learned in school a long time ago- when moshiach comes all of bnei yisrael will sit in a circle, none closer than the rest, around the shechina and state “this is my Hashem”. No matter how they look, or what shul they go to, they are all part of “the servants of Hashem”.

White shirts are not kavodik at all if they are sloppy, messy, dirty or in need of a very good pressing. If i had to say what was more kavodik, a messy white shirt or a clean and neat blue shirt, I’d pick the blue one in a second! Yidden need to look presentable and neat as the rest of the world looks at them. “Look at those slobs… those yeshiva bochurim look disgustingly dirty- have they showered in the last month?” and yes- I have heard people comment about frum people’s looks. From the frum to the frei to goyim, yes they do look and they do care.

It was all a mistake. But police are of a higher status than hatzala and hatzlala should listen to the police, once the patient was stabilized. Why cant you judge favorably? We would like them to judge us favorably… why be so angry at the police? mayeb the hatzala man was not officially parked correctly so the policeman didnt realize he was on “call”. The patient is ok and the two of them will sort it all out. Maybe the police will retract the ticket…

People didnt like it (as someone mentioned above) that the president took offense with the “beer conference” and called the police officer “stupid”… We shouldnt jump on the police officer either. It is not all about US VS. THEM. We are in galus and need to follow the rules.

in reply to: Budget Crisis! Bais Yaakov of Boro Park Cannot Open Yet This Year #657946

I understand the necessity of supporting yeshivos and bais yaakovs, but we need to come to the bottom line.

When i have a budget and then something unexpectedly comes up (emergencies, medical, car…)I still need to pay all of my expenses. So I need to cut from somewhere to pay back. BYOBP and other institutions should, especially in these tough economic times, cut back on expenses they dont need.

Parents should pay as much tuition as they can, but they cannot be expected to pay for other people’s children. Tzeddaka has no requirement on where to give it, just that “family before others, community before outsiders….” and there are many tzeddaka organizations they may want to help first.

in reply to: Altering Photos in Photoshop for Fundraising Purposes – Okay? #655066

Has anyone thought about how the boy whose shirt color was altered would feel? People look to see if they know anyone in the picture or if they are in it when it is sent from a familiar setting/yeshiva/organization. He is being told, by photoshopping the picture, that he is “not ok” and his style of dress is wrong for the school. If the yeshiva feels this way, an official dress code should be in place and/or he should not be accepted. I am not commenting on the blue shirt/white shirt debate, but rather the perspective of the yeshiva and their desire to photoshop pictures.

I think it is false advertising and geneivas daas to photo shop ANY advertisements or appeals for tzeddaka. To clarify on some of the points mentioned above:

    1. If the yeshiva usually looks one way (completely full), but on that day that the picture was taken a large number of boys were out sick, then perhaps it would be ok.

    2. Was the boy who’s shirt was changed color a student at the institution or a guest?

    3. Adding nature and greenery to the surroundings is problematic. It can show that the money collected goes towards trees and flowers. On the other hand, many people like knowing that the institution has pride in themselves and their institution and might want to give more towards it than usual. But, if it isnt…..

    4. At weddings, the photographs are many times enhanced, blemishes taken away ect. These pictures are not for public displays or announcements so there would be no genaivas daas involved, to the best of my knowledge. If it was a photographer trying to show how well he takes pictures, then that would be different. Computers arent the same as talents. For institutions to make the picture clearer or make it look a little sharper it might be different.

Basically, the institution should be very carefully walking the fine line between natural enhancements and gineivas daas. Why dont they just tell the photographer to come back another day?

Helpful- I have some difficulties with what you said. I am not anti-chasidish by the way. I just have a hard time understanding what you said. Please back up what you said through facts, stories or other data. Why is their approach the “best approach” as you call it? Why is it impractical- because maybe it cannot work without the overarching and forceful demands of a Rav? It seems that is the only reason why there is less of a tuition crises (if that is true). They are forced to give more than they want, need to or, perhaps, really able to. If taking your word about there being less of a tuition crises as fact, maybe this occurs because they dont teach to as high of a standard as other schools. Less textbooks, out of date textbooks, unqualified teachers, large class sizes and large student-teacher ratio can also enable tuition costs to go down….

anon- that is terrible for someone to expect someone to pay more than the cost? One never knows how wealthy someone is or how much extra beyond maaser they can give. Do you know exactly how much someone makes in profits? And they might have been pledged to give their maaser elsewhere.

gavra- is that fair? He might have other organizations that he wants to support. If he doesnt agree with how the money will be spent or what the organization is, what is the problem? He might want to provide for many other institutions that he feels are closer to him. Isnt it his prerogative to donate where he wants?

Why does the rebbe get so much power?

doesnt seem like community support, more like redistribution of wealth…

Why can’t the schools plan a budget like you and I have to for our own expenses? Dont take the kids on large trips, have fancy bulletin boards (ever seen the price of colored paper?), or lots of projects. Dont tell me that a “rosh chodesh bulletin board” is vital for a child to grow up and be a frum Jew. I know lots of people who’s schools did not have these things and they grew up fine. Does your school give out newsletters every week? The ones with pictures and a fancy cover and all? How about cutting costs and doing a large one only once a month, and a small “parsha questions/what we did this week” and fit it on 2 pages at the most. You dont have to give the whole school the paper that states what “Morah Goldy did this week in Kindergarten A”. Just that class.

tzippi- I also believe that we must prepare our boys for marriage and for life in general. Maturity is needed and they should not wait until they are married to become mature. Why say “their wife will make them mature”- isnt that the parents job and by saying this it admits they’ve failed and are using this as a cop-out? I am not saying that we should delay bosany more. I never meant anything of that sort. I am just saying that girls should not be pressured into marriage at the ripe old age of 18 or 19. They should be given the opportunity to get a job and/or an education. Is it a crime or a sin for girls to have a job that requires something beyond high school or seminary (teacher/secretary/gan assistant)???

what is wrong with women actually getting an education and a proper job? I dont believe in women’s lib, so let’s not make that an issue. I am saying that girls today are not as mature as they were 100 years ago when they could get married at 15 and boys at 18. Most men were not in kollel then and learned a trade to support a family. We can connect across the world in a matter of seconds, take courses online ect. Times have changed so the past can’t be used as an blanket rule for life. for 3000+ years they could never have imagined the world of 5769. Be realistic- the world is a different place and our perceptions, expectations and thoughts should reflect that.
