THE BIG ONE- why is insurance for women cheaper then men? even teenage girls it is cheaper then for teenage boys (even those older then they are)??? maybe because they are safer drivers?
How are people to get around if they live in an area without public transportation or where it is unsafe? Outside of NY, many frum people are forced to drive because they will not trust the bus. Also, hitching is so dangerous- dont put yourself in a sakana!! In some areas, frum people live so spread out that to get to high school they need to drive. What is better- going to public school and not driving or driving to a BY/Yeshiva?

Regarding opening packages, tell your family that you do not want to lie when asked by airport personel, “do you know the content of everything in your suitcases?” “Do you have any packages given to you by anyone else?”… Just say- I need to open it to be able to answer the questions B’emes

I once heard someone speak about having to shake hands with someone of the oposite gender. A point that needs to be made- do not expect that the unaffiliated Jew or Goy will immidiatly refrain from doing business with you or feel insulted. There was this lady (I know who it was so it is confirmed) who was opening a bank account. When finished, the teller (male) stuck out his hand to shake. She quickly replied, “I am an ultra-Orthodox Jew (so those who do shake hands are not looked at as not following the “laws”… she is just seen as “ultra”) and we do not shake hands or touch people of the opposite gender who are not closely related. Let’s do like they do in Japan and bow… they nodded heads and it was ok halachically (her husband is a rav) and no feelings were hurt! The teller understood and was willing to do something, “universal” and “multi-cultural”. No one wants to be seen as racist or discriminatory… so they would do it for the Japanese and follow their style of conducting business! Try something different and dont assume that it wont work.
Nobody- could it be anger? One doesnt know that they prompted it, no one wants it and if you got it, you think you are being rational and dont think you are being angry…

Someone commented before about flashy cars not being tzniyus. I just wanted to add that it works for both men and women. Men (who normally buy the cars) should not waste time and money on flashy cars- even if they are the ones who will drive them!
Driving seems to be a chumrah that some rabanim have instituted. Please explain what makes driving more untzniyus then WALKING or HITCHING RIDES or FALLING OVER MEN ON BUSES WHEN MEN WONT GET UP FOR THE WOMEN.
Question… since we are talking about tzniyus… how tzniyus is it for a lady to stand on a bus and possibly fall over? i have seen that men normally have a better sense of balance then women…. i personally almost fell over onto a man… thats a lot less tzniyus then standing up for a aldy and maybe touching one.

I have been at chasunah’s where there were many people and were there were few people there. The simcha of the chasan and kallah were not dependent on the amount of people always (sometimes they were flustered when picking who to dance with first) but on how close the people were and the fact they participated (dancing ect). It was heartwarming at a sibling’s chasunah where my friends showed up (were not invited for the meal) just to say mazel tov and see the chuppah. they didnt expect to eat or be compensated (it was a bit far). They only wanted to be there for the baalei simchos. What is your perspective on coming? to make them happy or to have fun? to make them happy- get a part-time job to help pay for transportation costs. Maybe cut back on the amount you spend on eating out! I was in Eretz Yisrael and there were plenty of bochurim eating out in restaurants, pizza shops, bagel places ect. And they werent the cheapest places! Save your money if you think that your presence will enhance the simcha~

BPD… sounds a bit like a combination of schizophrenia and bipolar. bipolar sometimes comes along with schizophrenia, but it is distinct. There are severe mood swings and behavioral changes. At one point they can be depressed, sleep all day, have no appetite, suicidal… and later (minutes, hours, days, months even between shifts) feel as if there is no end to their power and ability. They dont sleep, think they have superpowers (fly ect), belive they are G-D and unstoppable at anything they try. There are varying degrees at each stage…
sometimes i talk to people who just dont get it… Before I joined, I read a few posts and had to comment- people were just not using seichel!
ICOT- its not a full 24 hours because the Earth does not pass by the sun at equal points throughout the year. We say a rotation is from high-noon to high-noon the next day but the two days are of different lengths! That is why we have a leap year- to make up for all the different time frames and make them equal the time it takes for “a year”- full rotation about the sun. In many other cities they also have alternate side parking and for some reason they do not seem to have any issue with following the rules… They walk or leave a little earlier…. at least you dont have permit parking! That means you have to pay for the privelege to park outside your home… without one of those little stickers, your car gets a ticket!

Obviously, if it was the UN trying to stop the fighting, they would just tell them to aggree on hating the Jews! The two ex-enemies would only be so glad! (they would be on opposite sides of the line but not wanting to harm each other because one would help the other in wiping the Jewish Nation and Israel off the map.

I am an adult and, after fair warning and the scientific news being publicized, have the right to do what I want, as long as that doesnt endanger other people. This is in regard to other things as well, not just lead. So, having buisinesses being required to not use lead in products, or even having the FDA, is alright. But not when it interfears with my personal life and only bothers me. If it bothers my family, friends, neighbors ect health then there would be reason for govermental interfearance. So, having laws on construction of houses makes sense to protect the neighbors from fire, hurricane, tornado or earthquake damage stemming from my home’s collapse. But what if I was single and what I would do would not bother other people?

A girl asking for someone who learns/works is the same thing as asking hashkafa/personality/what-type-are-you questions and should not be put into the same box as weight!!! You can compare weight to girls asking about height/weight of the men, but still- as long as he/she is healthy- what’s the problem!
By the way, There are no added benefits of health to being a size 2 rather then a 4 (for a 5 foot tall girl), so dont give me any nonsense about the health of the girls. Being underweight is also an issue in health!
By the way, the article that I read based on the research findings said that “there were slight amounts of lead, but not enough to be worried about…”
we are going round and round in circles… What I am trying to say is that they should not be banning items- this is america! Land of the Free… What- they do not trust me to take care of myself? they should publish what they want, promote the dangers of it, and if I still want to poison myself, why shouldn’t I be able to? If I am above the age of 18 (and 21 for alcohol) why shouldn’t I be able to be treated like an adult? If you dont think that 18 is old enough to take care of themselves, then take away the voting age at 18, raise the age for enlistment, drivers liscences without restrictions….If I am an adult, whether it is 18, 38 or 108- let me be treated like an adult!!!

Fine. As the article I read was also published very recently (I just cannot recall the exact date, but it was very recent) I assume that the studies on both parts were not conclusive. We will just have to wait and see what the next study concludes. By the way- it all depends on what perspective the article was written from. If it was, for example, the New York Times/LA times who wrote it- then I would not believe half of what is written (unless it says something pro-Bush, pro-Israel, or pro-republicans). Anyways- we got sidetracked from the major issue- GUNS ARE OUR RIGHT and you, or any other leftist group, cannot take that away from me! If I have not been convicted of a felon, am old enough, and have not been medically diagnosed as “insane”- why should I be prevented from using my right?
well said Joseph! There will be exeptions to every rule made about people. But overall, to the vast majority of people, racism does not exist against the black population. How many black people kill white people for no apparent reason except racial?
In our colleges/schools, scholarship contests, careers, and other public institutions, race should not be a reason of acceptance. How would you like it if someone with less experience and ability gets that raise in your office/job over you because they are black/white/hispanic/oriental or green with blue stripes?
Thank you for the information, but this was in regard to hunting, where I was told by a reputable source (someone who has done more research on this then most in the general frum community) that the imputus for this was in order to slowly stop gun ownership. Since the supreme court said you cannot ban a gun based on its classification, they are finding different ways to get around it.
Furthermore, I read an article where they said that game shot with the lead bullets were found to cause no significant harm to human health (but not enough research was done with pregnant women). They said this was a scare and is not such a large worry at this point. It was an article I read ( and not from a local newspaper or unreputable source either.)
It doesnt get around the main reason right now- Gun Ownership in all technecalities is a RIGHT, not a privelege able to be taken away by the government.
Back to the origional point, and for those who seem to inject criticism in what anyone else says—-I am NOT trying to downgrade or belittle anyone at all in this post. I just want to know, like the origional poster, what the qualifications are to be called a specific title today, as I want to make sure I do not belittle someone when speaking to/about them. Do I say “Harav Hagaon”or just “Harav”? Is that person a “Reb” or “Rav”? For the perspective of today- what makes someone “”worthy”” of being called one title and not another?

I was never convinced that Obama was the right president to be chosen, and I am still not convinced now, but I am not complaining that “the election was stolen and there should be a recount for the next month” like some people were 4 and 8 years ago!!!!
Jewish feminist- to clarify- it was North Dakota. I found it by googling “lead ammunition ban+Dakota” It was not in the first few, but after searching a bit I found it.
And North Dakota said that “lead poisoning from bullets used in game hunting have not found any health risks….” Just a scare to prevent people from having access to guns and bullets!
No- You misunderstood me. Almost all bullets have lead in them (some have steel which is also forbidden). This new law just took away the right to hunt,period, as you cannot have any bullets for the guns. Many liberals allow sports-guns but now that they are forbidden, they will just take away all of them! Once they have a reason to take it away, especially now with such a liberal government.

Gitty, maybe if you get exasperated with “society” in the frum world, try to find a different society. One that is more accepting. I know that living in smaller communities is sometimes better (it of course depends on where). In many out-of-town areas they accept almost everyone as they are happy to have a fresh face in the area, a new person to talk to….sometimes it is as if they “have” to accept you as there is no one else. They are not so judgemental and do not try to be “on top” or “holier then thou” as there is not a large crowd to “be on top of”. They are not fixated on the details and fashion…
thinkinghelps-I actually did not know they were the same company and I do appreciate it when people will point these things out. Since they are the same company, my money may still go to a heimishe company but get more for my money!
jewishfeminist- 1. once they start outlawing lead bullets, then they can take away the guns because those are not necessary (since you cant shoot without bullets). By taking away the right to bare arms in one state, it makes it that much easier to be taken away in the other 49.

How else can we protect our families if the government wont do it for us? In Israel, many terrorists were stopped because CIVILIANS HAD GUNS ON THEM!?!?!? How many in America were not stopped because they were outlawed?
