poster: after reading your post it was so hard for me not to laugh and have the people in my room thinking I am crazy!

for a little armchair psychology….Sometimes, people just do not know how to bring up information or talk about it. They are afraid what other people might think. “They think I am a bad parent”, “where did I go wrong/ make a mistake” or other similar thoughts that put the blame on the person. I do not think that your sister does not need you but she might not know how to express her feelings and issues with you. She seems to be introverted and not know how to release the feelings, even though she may really want to. I know that sometimes when something is going wrong or someone has a problem, they are worried that people may judge them, categorize them, or be prejudice against the other people in the family. For example, if someone is facing a divorce, while family members might feel the need to talk this over with their siblings, they are afraid that now the other siblings have the black mark of a “divorced sibling” and therefore not find shiduchim. They are trying to protect their family, even though people already know. Or they could not know how to bring this up. How do you bring up a “crises” in a normal conversation?

dont go commenting on how “pro israel” hillary is…. or do you have such a short-term memory? Did she not kiss Arafat’s wife a few years ago?!?!?

Explain that without the Romans, we would now be facing “Judean Terrorists” and not “Palestinian”. How about that for ironic?

that is so cool! how did you do it?

in reply to: Responding to newpaper bloggers #636298

I have come to the same realization- it does not pay to pay attention to these rabid dogs. I have spent time refuting their responses but then realized “there are more of them and they have more time to make up SNs to post ‘i agree with you’ comments.” Every so often respond, but “reporting abuse” may be better. Perhaps go to a different computer where there is a different IP address so the site doesnt realize it is the same person commenting and reporting abuses all the time. Oh, and another thing, if you are writing to your congressman/other officials dont give winding arguments. I was told to just write “support proposition ___” and if you want, underneath write why. this way, they do not count your vote for the wrong policy. But generally, they do not read the reasons and just check off a box saying “one constituent wants a yes”…

    in reply to: Privacy #655918

I think everyone has secrets that, deep down inside, they do not want others to know about. There is a problem that people want to know what is going on in other’s lives without the realization that it might not be appropriate or appreciated if it was to be leaked to the public. If one has a friend that they are close to, it might be better to tell them in advance of the general public. ie: they are the first people you call after family when it comes to a mazel tov. That way the secret-holder can keep their privacy without the friend having harsh feelings.

Realize what should be kept a secret and what should not. Know that sometimes one needs to break the confidence of another in order to spare them harm. Someone who knows that their friend is about to be engaged to a boy/girl who has a recognized medical issue (fact and not maybe- medical or psychological) should tell their friend, once asking a competent Rav about hilchos lashan hara. Once someone is officially engaged, it becomes harder to spare them from the agony of marrying a psychotic or otherwise ill person.

Another funny about telemarketers… Someone asked one of them, “What’s your name?”

“I was told to tell you my name is Robert” (Indian accent)…

So are they all having identity crises? I have the feeling that they dont know anyone named Robert in India (as a native).

How is signing a DNR categorized? Is it allowing suicide?

About rationing of organs, unfortunately there is a bigger demand then supply. Many people, whether for religious or other reasons, will not allow their organs to be harvested. I know of someone who was niftar because they needed a bone marrow transplant. In case you dont know, anyone who is a match can give it, and it does not harm the giver in the long run- and they save a life. This person found a match from a list and the would-be donor refused. This person died because they had no siblings and could not find another suitable donor. How can someone stand by and in effect kill someone?

Thanks… I hate it that children are learning spanish instead of learning ENGLISH! If we are in America, it is time to speak the language of the country! I have no problem with being bilingual, trilingual or like a friend of mine who knows about 5 languages fluently but I do have an issue when I want to go anywhere and must speak in spanish, or spanish is the first option on the telephone or the signs are in spanish first, and then english!!! WE ARE IN AMERICA! Enough of my tirade…

Last year I replaced all the windows in my house with an expensive double-pane energy efficient kind. Today, I got a call from the contractor who installed them. He was complaining that the work had been completed a whole year ago, and I still hadn’t paid for them.

Well, hellloooo,………..just because I’m blonde doesn’t mean that I am automatically stupid. So, I told him exactly what his fast talking sales guy had told me last year, that in ONE YEAR these windows would pay for themselves! Helllooooo? It’s been a year! I told him.

There was only silence at the other end of the line, so I finally just hung up. He never called back. Guess I won that stupid argument. I bet he felt like an idiot.

moishe- your right in a way.. the question was posed to a friend in school… what happens when you eat meat, and then realize that you ate aged cheese a little bit before.. then you are in a weird state where you cant eat either milk or meat!

in reply to: Personal Connversations #633679

You are so right! Isnt the reason we have usernames is so that we remain anonymous? If you want people to know who you are, change your sn to “Shlomoweiss” or “Rivkishwartz” ect…. (and no, I do not know people by those names, I just tried to come up with random names…fill in your own.)

in reply to: WHY LABEL #631723

~a~ I try to point out arguments that make a lot of sense and I agree to and I thank the author, whomever he or she is…. Everyone needs a good ego boost once in a while, and even editors and mods need appreciation.

in reply to: WHY LABEL #631722

But still, why do people label? I got called something based on the school I went to even though it had nothing to do with me! It was so incorrect and it was hurtful! Just because someone is not from the school that you went to, it doesnt mean that they are irreligious ect. I met someone who was telling me about her school. I asked a question and her response went along the lines of, “Well, it depends on how yeshivish your school is…” I was shocked, because there are many frum, fine, very yeshivish schools that do not do what this school does ect. I guess if the definition of yeshivish includes going to this specific school, then I guess she was right. But why be so close-minded? I dont say that every school is “yeshivish” (whatever that means) but each child needs a school that is appropriate for them, and one should not look down at someone because they do what is right for their child.

I just saw it… I LIKE IT!!! this should also be put under the shadchan-MIL joke forum…. people will get a kick out of it….

in reply to: WHY LABEL #631709

I think labels all have to do with the attitude surrounding them. Cohen, Levi and Yisroel are not seen as negative, as well all accept it as Min Hashamayim. But with Litvak/chasidish/blackhatter/yeshivish/comeupwithyourown it has become negative to be seen as the other. If you are not my “label” or what I consider to be my label, then you are an “other” and dont belong.

Besides- try defining any of these terms and lets see if we cam all agree on a definition… We have tried it in the past and it hasnt worked well.
