I was taught in economics class that if product “X” was made illegal, then the price will rise, as will demand to enter the business (to make money), and the alure of using it will as well. If one legalizes it, then in the short run, there would be an increase in usage and then will steadily decline.
Halachically, I would think that any product abuse (alcohol, cigarretes ect) go against the mitzvah “leshmor es nafshoseichem- to keep your body safe” and wouldnt marijuana fall under that category as well?
i guess it depends on the reasoning behind getting the help. Laziness or too busy or what… there are good and bad aspects to everything and why someone does something can be as important as what they do…

Joseph-and what is the proof for this? To those I have spoken to about this, it seems counter-intuitive…
one reason that there are less divorces by the chasidish sects is that it is not an option for them, and is “tabboo”. If they divorce, they are seen as “problematic” and so forth. The couples are more willing to put up with abuse and sticky marriages/ health or mental health issues to be able to put up a front for the world. By allowing the young men and women to go out on shidduchim, they see if they are compatible, rather then just listening to their parent’s wishes even when they differ from the parents.

Give the money back to us and then we can restart the economy by spending and saving- how we want to! It is a free country- let us spend our money how we think is best, not the way some congressman wants. why should our money be spent in all these other countries, for programs that will not help our economy, for unimportant services….
This “crises” exists, but only to the extent that we make a big deal of it to the general klal. If kids were not brought up hearing about the “crises” they would not start dating and “pushing”, making others want to jump in so to still have a place. what makes a girl “old” if she is 22 or 23 before she finds her beshert? It is not old, and girls of that age should not be treated as second-rate, just because they were not lucky enough to find it before they hit 21! People need to realize that if 22 is the new “old maid” then those nearing that age bracket will be considered “almost spoiled” or whatever terminology that you wish to use. By marrying those closer to your age, there will be more people “within range” or more people. if you have all the older bochurim getting set up with younger, who will the younger boys get if not those even younger! But, if the boys would get someone 1-2 years younger than they are, then this gap can be closed.

Where is the change when you are appointing the entire clinton staff minus Bill? some of those people have been in corrupt politics forever and wont stop their pork-laden bills and this spending package (not stimulus) only like 1 or 2 percent I heard was going towards infrastructure while the administration claims a lot will be going. Cut out the garbage in it!

Many times the communities/circles that date less are also the ones that the couples would never get divorced, as they will not be able to find another spouse…
I know of someone who dated for a short time and was not able to find out about the spouse’s state of mental health. If one does not date over the course of a few weeks, in different settings and times of day (It does not have to be every night, but rather once or twice a week for a few weeks….) then one cannot be sure of who the person really is. Someone told me that they recommend to people that at least one of the dates be more then a lobby or a meal and be something like board games, miniature golf ect (depending on the circle) so that the other person can see their competitive nature and if they could dare to lose. Are they too competitive, poor losers, too serious about a silly game, or gloating if they win? It shows a different side to the person. Yes, I know that this would not be acceptable in every community but for those that would, it could be a good idea.

tentwenty30- you would give him that much? He is planning a spending bill that will send money we dont have to other countries and that wont help our economy!
If we have such a poor economy, why are we sending money to other countries to help them??? like mexico, Africa….

Oh, and what about Nancy Pelosi’s proposal that if we dont pass this bill then 500,000 poeple will be out of a job per month… um, in one year that would be 6 million workers… ok, that would mean everyone, including the PRESIDENT and Pelosi herself would be out of a job… wait- that wouldnt be too bad…. 😉

If one dates for a longer period of time, one is able to find out certain things that only become evident with time. For example, whether he/she is selfish, egotistical, has habits that you cannot live with, mental/psychological issues ect.. also, if he has certain attitudes that might result in abuse (c”v)….

charlie- I think you are right about the psychological disorder… I was having feelings about that and I think that you are most likely right about it. Laughing is the best medicine! Thats what I have been trying to do, but sometimes it is just so crazy…

It is a very apropos quote…. but I forgot where I heard it from. If one wants to keep something a secret, then it is best not to tell anyone. But once again,the moral of the story is, if you know something that might be a secret, do not pass it on!

I have tried and open and frank conversation and have been unsuccessful…. this person starts the “blame game” and accusing me for everything from the room being messy to the possibility of nuclear warfare to the fact that they spilled their coffee 10 minutes before I came into the room… i didnt know that I had that much power! Then let me give my solution to nuclear fallouts….

Joseph- that is not the point here. The main issue is that someone spread information that was meant to be private and thus destroyed a familial relationship. People should be aware not to spread information that is not meant to be public. If you happen to find out- do not pass it on without the person’s approval. But a word of caution: in some cases, it is best not to tell the person that you know, as then they might believe that the whole city knows their secret. In these cases, remaining silent might be the best option.
