about possible psychology programs, there are sites that you can look up different schools in your area

    http://www.allpsychologyschools.com/featured/marriage-and-family-counseling/

    gradschool.com

or google “family therapy graduate schools” and add in the state you live in. be careful about online schools- may not be worth much.

I never heard about the exercise clothes thing in PT schools…. is that for the classes too or just when on rotation? is that only in touro’s?

Is there any difference in CUNY (city university of NY) vs SUNY (state university of NY)? obviously I am not a lifelong NYer like most of you are. I mean in reference to how good a school it is/reputation.

not sure what I want to do… something in science…maybe PT or PA or something like that.

so has anyone here made it into any programs? I had heard about the mechitza- does that mean that the women are forced to wear untzinyus clothing and the men can see them or does it mean that the men can see the women while sitting in class (and the women can see wear what they want in class).

    Where is temple? kean?

uniforms: does that mean you must wear it exactly or can you alter it at a dressmaker or with your sewing machine to make it better? sometimes they have an option of short skirts or pants and i know someone who was going for nursing who bought two of the short skirts and made 1 longer one….

    those awards are well-earned.

Now, who will be the first to try to claim 2010’s? I can just see people trying to do the oddest things in order to win the award. It probably will be the first award they ever earned too.

in reply to: The Riddle Thread…. #1068588

here are some riddles of my own (sorry if they are repeats, didnt look through all the pages to find out yet)

Four men were in a boat on the lake. The boat turns over, and all four men sink to the bottom of the lake, yet not a single man got wet! Why?

What can run but never walks, has a mouth but never talks, has a head but never weeps, has a bed but never sleeps?

Whoever makes it, tells it not. Whoever takes it, knows it not. And whoever knows it wants it not.

What gets wetter the more it dries?

so that’s who you are! multiple personality disorder or just switching identification? dont know how long will be on but glad to be back for what I am able to!

thanks for the definition. I had heard it was against the disestablishing (so it is for establishing) a common unified church for England. But i wanted to know if there was a different definition (someone was playing a joke when they defined it to me) or if it really means that! just curious! its not in most dictionaries, by the way.

ok, i am working on the blue eyes one….

so if I see 99 people with blue eyes that night, i dont know if I have blue eyes or not. so I wait to see if anyone else leaves. since no one else leaves (they dont know if they have blue eyes either and they are all waiting to see if anyone leaves). So really all the blue eyed people (100) leave at the same time cuz they realize that no one else left yet that they must have blue eyes. the brown eyed people dont leave cuz they each see 100 people with blue eyes.

so what day did they leave? the 99th day? since two people would look at each other on the first day and not see anyone leave, that they are both blue eyed. then look on the third day at three people and if no one leaves after two days then they have blue eyes. so on the 99th day and no one has left- they have blue eyes and know that there are 100 people there with blue eyes and they all left together.

am i heading on the right track?

I know someone already posted this word…

antidisestablishmentarianism… but does someone know the definition to this? i heard this word and cannot find a definition to it- i have been searching for years….

in reply to: The Riddle Thread…. #1068579

thanks for noticing that I have not been around. I kind of gave up on the CR for several months now…. Life has been pretty crazy for me. one thing and then another- i just cant handle life sometimes. I needed some laughs and maybe catch a riddle or two so I came on to the CR.

Ok, since they each drank the other’s first here is a play by play. T stands for Treasurer and P stands for pharmacist.

T knew that P was better at this so he came up with a brilliant plan. he would take some weak before he got there and brought along water to give to the P. that way the P would drink the water and then his really strong poison and die. The P, being really smart (he had to be to take orgo-organic chemistry which is needed to be a pharm.), decided to bring water along as his “poison”. That way the T would die from the poison he had taken right before the meeting. the king lost out because his treasurer dies and each one only brought water and no poison.

    Is this right?

in reply to: The Riddle Thread…. #1068577

    How about:

The treasurer brought a poison. The pharmacist brought water (or other non-toxic solution) and drank an extremely weak poison before the meeting. When they switched after drinking their own,the treasurer drank water which could not counteract the poison he brought but the pharmacist had drunk the weak poison which counteracted the one he had taken beforehand.

did i get this one right?

Moish- I believe in you! You can do what your heart desires! Ok, I am sounding like your mother here, but that is not my intention. I just want to say that I really believe that if you set your heart out to do something, you can do it. I am so proud that you did not carry your phone with you!

An Idea: Try saying modeh ani in the morning when you wake up- it really sets your day off right! Know that Hashem looks out for you (see- you found the CR when you had nothing to do) and you are not alone in your struggles!

Rosh Yeshiva- there are some communities that are growing and building new schools that are not in the state of NY or NJ!! Be open minded about places to move to…

Nesher- maybe ask about a specific neighborhood and we can tell you what type of schools, shuls, stores, kollels, ect exist there. since qwerty isnt from flatbush he can tell us about where he is from and the community there! I heard Atlanta is growing, but maybe isnt good for singles… but there is dallas, chicago,la, detroit, cleveland, and so many other communities that people dont think of right away or may not know how big each area is!

in reply to: Mazel Tov Moish!!! #640917

If your friends were true friends, then they would still like you even if you changed a few of your habits. A real friend would be friends, even if one changed or stopped doing the same things they used to do together. A real friend would find a different activity ect. Try changing one habit, even a little bit. Try not doing it to such an extreme or as many times as you do it now. Make a line in your mind- where you wont cross. You will do everything until that point. Pick a line that is still doable but that you are afraid it may possibly reach that point.

I think you are smart enough to find one way to change ONE habit in a tiny bit…

    Enjoy playing football!

in reply to: What we do for Shidduchim #660706

Same goes with mental health… There are so many kids in school who are struggling but their parents will not get them the help they need because it will “affect their shidduchim”. So they suffer in anguish throughout elementary and high school, failing and having low self esteem ect.

Also, there are some people, especially when they are in their teens, who will not seek professional help when it is called for. The kids have serious psychological issues such as eating disorders, or other not as obvious ones. Some kids I know really need to be on medication (not that it is appropriate for everyone) but their parents will not get them the help they need. It is really a nebech for the children, and it can harm not only the children (they can be normal, learn and grow in school ect), but their teachers, classmates ect…

When someone advises that their child should get tested, maybe it is appropriate to get a second opinion and not just wave them off. It is for the good of the child!

so qwerty- if you are not from flatbush, how dare you say, “if you’re gonna stay in the coffeeroom, then i’d say flatbush”… i guess we both have to leave now….unless someone knows of a place in flatbush that I can move to… but why would I want to move to flatbush???

in reply to: Disturbing Details Revealed In Crazed Chimp Attack #638575

It pays to be careful around animals that look untrained (trying to run away from its owner), look wild (like some cats) or are sick. But dont be dumb and walk on the other side of the street when an owner comes with his dog on a leash!

Maybe this story shows us which types of animals are meant to be kept in the house and which ones are supposed to be wild… you do not see normal dalmatians or poodles at the zoo!

in reply to: Flatbush vs. Out of Town #667345

qwerty… to be part of the chashuv Out of town- it takes more then just not being in flatbush. boro park, monsey, queens (did i miss one? I am not from NY…) ect do NOT count!! It takes more then just not being a flatbusher. It is also a mindset…thats what makes it so impressive! Imagine- living without a pizza store in close proximity? and not complaining? I have lived in a place like that once… there were no restaurants there for a while. Being out of town is an experience, one that I wouldnt trade for anything (even not being able to go out for pizza). It helps you realize the important things in life (and learn how to cook at a young age!)

in reply to: What we do for Shidduchim #660694

OH NO!!! I will never find a shidduch! If this is what MILs want- I am doomed! I had braces (railroad tracks- yes), gone on a hike before and —(the worst) I ATE AT MY FRIEND’s VORT!!!

But truly, I have heard weird stories… like the one who was asked if they had a plastic tablecloth on the table, only use white table cloths (and not even cream or ivory)… and my favorite: asking the guy what type of shoes his sisters wear… like they would even know! Ask the parents if you really want to know….

Out of town is the best! you actually know your neighbors and the guy around the corner! You can get all the benefits of in town in a smaller community- you just have to know where to look!

Peer pressure exists wherever one may live. It just may concern different things: fashion, hobbies, choices of entertainment, “wants and desires”, habits ect.

I have lived in small areas and larger cities, been to many different cities including NY, and have gone to camp and met all types. So I think I can back up what I say with experience. If it is a new community, with few choices in schools and shuls, I have found that there is less peer pressure than in larger areas. Children learn to get along with others, even if they aren’t exactly the same. There is no pressure to buy the latest X or this toy or that brand Y. If the other child will not play with your child because they do not own this, then the other child will not have a playmate and will change. In town, when children have more choices for friendships, they can be pickier and then the pressure starts.

in reply to: Poll: Support For Fairness Doctrine Drops #638329

the “fairness doctrine” is the only way the liberals have found to limit conservative representation of ideas. Most talk radio is conservative;most liberal stations fail. Most people who listen to the radio are conservative-bent, while liberals have the majority of television stations and newspapers. It is just a fact. Why limit radio stations and not TV/newspapers? If the fairness doctrine passes, no conservative station could stay in business as when they want to say anything, they would need to present both sides equally.

FREEDOM OF SPEECH is what separates America from other countries. It is what makes us Free. Once they take this right away, nothing is safe and we turn into a socialist or communist dictatorship…

in reply to: Flatbush vs. Out of Town #667316

coke not pepsi- it depends on which out of town community one goes to. Some have many different schools, some only have one. Having visited and lived in a few, I think I know that each community is very different and should not be lumped in with other “out of town” areas. There are some with 6, 7, 8 or even more, elementary schools, each on their own level and for a different crowd. Please do not say that “chinuch and peer pressure will be a greater concern out of town” as each area is sooo different. I know of areas where there is only one school, but there are others which have many more. Some are commutable to other areas. I know someone who drove in to another area for a more suitable school, but they had the community that they liked. It all depends on what you define as a priority and what type you are. Some people will only be comfortable where they have 40 schools to choose from, while others will find what they are looking for in 10. There is peer pressure in NY too. Dont fool anyone- there can be more in NY than in other areas!

in reply to: 3 Boys in Japan #656253

Wait- what happened here? the men who gave them the drugs were caught..by whom? They were frum, yes, but they caused much admos nefesh and should be punished for their crime. They caused 3 men (not boys) to be in jail for almost a full year! The men should have been smarter and they knew they were doing something illegal- smuggling. They just did not know the full extent of it. Those that convinced them to do this were in the wrong and should rot in jail.

in reply to: 3 Boys in Japan #656251

I am very confused about your post areivim… who was caught?

in reply to: Chivalry & Yiddishkeit: A Foreign Concept #641888

    Tzippi- Just to clarify…

When I said that the two are not equal, I meant it that the two are just incomparable. They each have different roles and places in life and society. As the saying goes, “compare apples with apples and oranges with oranges…” They are almost different species and therefore cannot be classified as “lesser” or “greater”. Is an orange an elevated fruit? Is it “better” then the apple?
