HashemisreadingParticipantThe green and red rubber ducks brushed themselves off, held their heads up high, and walked straight in to the closest Chanukah mesibah, with the PETAAAAOO (People for the Ethical Treatment of Artificial Avian Animals Abused by Other Organizations) at their heels.
HashemisreadingParticipantwhen they looked down at the artificial rubber ducks in their hands, they noticed they were all red or green. They immediately tossed them all in to the Kivsan haeish.
HashemisreadingParticipantWho said the good girl seminaries have only good girls? I recall going out with a lot of bad apples.
HashemisreadingParticipantI’m having difficulty getting through to some people in the CR. they just don’t seem to be getting my point. Does any have any contact info for Meno?
HashemisreadingParticipantMy chavrusa shared a nice idea with me, that I think the coffee room can definitely benefit from (especially those perusing this thread). How about totally disconnecting from technology for the first half hour after lighting the menorah? I tried it last night, I just turned off my phone and I really think it helped me internalize the message of Chanukah without the distraction.
Try it!

HashemisreadingParticipantIn the snake they found a rake?!
HashemisreadingParticipantMeno: I’m surprised, I would think you would spend more time on something that in your pocket than something on the wall. But I think I can still safely assume that MOST people find smartphones a bigger danger than a TV.
HashemisreadingParticipantJust move to the suburbs. Parking lots. Driveways.
HashemisreadingParticipant“hashemisreading is right”.
So you see Flatusher, Maybe I’m not left after all.
HashemisreadingParticipantBy us? Yeah, right.
HashemisreadingParticipantAs the person getting married, SHE has a right to nix it.
HashemisreadingParticipantFlatbusher: Your right. I shouldn’t be here.
HashemisreadingParticipantSyag: that for sure true, but in my day to day life it can get hard to all have that constantly in mind.
I think a lot of it boils down to how desensitized we get. we are so influenced by the outside world and the western culture that we don’t even realize that crazy things are crazy. I feel like now everyone is so focused on being open-minded and accepting of everyone that we forget to condemn those who need to be condemned (even if we just think it to ourselves “I will not respect that”.)
We need to have more courage to stand up and say that’s wrong! we can not follow along with that, even if it looks fine.
We need more courage and confidence to stand apart!
HashemisreadingParticipantI have a daughter in Shidduchim and we recently were looking in to a boy for her. When we found out that the family has a TV my daughter automatically nixed it. Then the next boy that came up has an iPhone and my daughter was totally fine with that. I can’t understand it! This boy has his own personal TV that goes with him wherever he goes! how could that be better than a TV in the living room?!?!
HashemisreadingParticipantHow can anyone deny that a couple that both have smartphones will GENERALLY have more shalom bayis issues than a couple that has regular phones?! I seriously cant fathom how people think its the same as a computer?! Its the mekor of tumah IN YOUR POCKET!!
HashemisreadingParticipantwhen I think of Moshe Yess I think of ” Who will be the Zaidy of my Children?”
Who?!
Will my descendants have anyone to turn to, look up to?
Who will be my grandchildren’s teachers, their role models? Who will be their gedolei hador?
Yeridas Hadoros is a fear that is so constant in my life. Does anyone else share the same thoughts on this?

HashemisreadingParticipantMeno: Really? well then you are one lucky person. But I think I can say that most people are definitely absorbed with their smartphones.
Ask yourself the following question: What’s the last thing you look at before you go to bed and the first thing you touch when you wake up in the morning?
HashemisreadingParticipantMy daughter just got engaged and I paid the shadchan $1,000 per the YWNCR & Popa bar abba . Should I have paid more so that I have the shadchan “on my side” so he will want to make shidduchim for my next children? Is this necessary?
HashemisreadingParticipantWheres Joseph on this thread?
HashemisreadingParticipantIn lieu of the above question of the OP, who would be the Misyavnim of today?
HashemisreadingParticipantYes, it can hurt.

HashemisreadingParticipantBump
are the numbers suggested here still accurate? $1,500 from each side is still suggested or did it go up?
HashemisreadingParticipantBump!
Weather you would marry someone with an iPhone or not, keep in mind that if you do, you will LIKELY be marrying an iPhone, not a person!

HashemisreadingParticipantThey are a few MASA organized events throughout the year that everyone under MASA must attend. I remember when I was in Yeshiva it was just a lot of talk about Zionism etc.
HashemisreadingParticipantMASA still works with a lot of yeshivos, dunno about seminaries
HashemisreadingParticipantI thought you meant “moved to the left” as in more liberal. Which I tend to agree with.
HashemisreadingParticipantMy daughter *gasp* shes 2.
