EDITED
HIEParticipantSKIING, i am going skiing next week. the following is a list of nearby ski resorts:
1)WINDHAM MOUNTAIN. beatiful skiing area and snowtubing. very nice area to sit and rest. they have about 50 fantastic trails including beginner..intermediet..hard..expert..
its about 3 hours from brooklyn. it’s 85 miles up the thruway, near tannersville, albany.
http://www.windhammountain.com
2)HUNTER MOUNTAIN. THIS is probably the best skiing are near nyc. but the bad part is that on weekends and holidays all the teenagers go there and they ski wildly so it is not so pleasant. they have close to 60 great trails. it is also around 3 hours from brooklyn. and also straight 80 miles on the thruway.
3) Camelback ski area. this is i think in the poconos about 2 hours from brooklyn. it is a good ski area but not as good as hunter or windham. it has about 40 trails
4)shawnee mountain. also close to two hours away from brooklyn in the poconos. it has about 35-40 trails. it is also not as good as hunter and windham.
HAVE FUN!!!

January 5, 2010 1:30 pm at 1:30 pm in reply to: Yeshiva Principal Enforcing No-Cell-Phone Policy; Proper Or Not? #673506HIEParticipantI feel so honoured to see my thread on the front page of YWN, thank you ADMIN.
My opinion personally is that a principal should not tell a bochur to empty his pockets because, as mentioned before we are talking about HS boys, not elementary.
If the principal sees the bochur take out his cellphone, then he has a full right to confiscate it, otherwise i don’t think it’s right for a principal to randomly tell a student to empty his pocket.
January 4, 2010 3:59 am at 3:59 am in reply to: Yeshiva Principal Enforcing No-Cell-Phone Policy; Proper Or Not? #673463HIEParticipanti agree 100%. and all yeshivos should have such a rule because i know a bachur that i predict that last year was a good bachur, learned well, (now a tenth grader) he had a cellphone from the beginning of mesivta with everything available on it. and unfortunatly he is making to much misuse of what is available and who knows what will be, i am watching what will be with him… i’ve only seen him get worse and worse and worse and bring other bochurim together r”l
HIEParticipantall these posts get me jealous
HIEParticipantDOES anyone know where the name tzvi comes from??
what ha[[ened was many years ago there were too many moshe”s, so they took the name moshe and in hebrew with the method of “AT BASH” THEY changed the name moshe in to tzvi

December 28, 2009 12:25 am at 12:25 am in reply to: Good Bachurim Can Smoke?! What’s the Purim Heter? #671298HIEParticipantbombmaniac, YOU ARE TOTALLY WRONG. If someone smokes on purim he is doing an idiotic thing, but that doesn’t mean he’s an idiot
HIEParticipantbefore, half the names were jewish, now, maybe a fifth
HIEParticipanti’m happy to announce that i learned for a long time on nitul nacht. some people have a minug to go to sleep early and get up at chatzos on nitul nacht and learn. One of the maggidei shiur in my yeshiva (TORAH VODAATH) told his shiur to get up 4AM AND learn
December 23, 2009 1:46 am at 1:46 am in reply to: Good Bachurim Can Smoke?! What’s the Purim Heter? #671261HIEParticipantAGUG: You still haven’t answered me. there is a issur STRAIGHT out in the torah that it is assur to smoke, what more can you get then that. As stated before you have TRULY lost your chezkas kashrus, and i also don’t believe that you don’t smoke. your opinion is totally absurd. Go to SLOAN KETTERING MEDICAL CENTER, the top cancer center in america, and you’ll see over there what smoking causes, you can speak to all the patients and ask them if it’s worth smoking to cut off many years of your life c”v.
ONLY after you go there will your opinion change, because no one over here in the cr seems to be able to convince you that smoking is assur. It isn’t an opinion whether it is assur or not, IT’S A FACT!!! AND GET THAT THROUGH YOUR HARD HEAD. As stated before it says straight out in the torah that it’s assur, you don’t need to go to your rav.
December 20, 2009 2:03 pm at 2:03 pm in reply to: Good Bachurim Can Smoke?! What’s the Purim Heter? #671241HIEParticipantAGUG: from the way you’ve spoken, it seems that you yourself SMOKE, and just because you do it doesn’t make it mutar.
December 20, 2009 12:52 am at 12:52 am in reply to: Good Bachurim Can Smoke?! What’s the Purim Heter? #671235HIEParticipantAGUG: YOU R TOTALLY WRONG. smoking is totally assur. I don’t say it, my rav doesn’t say it, the TORAH says it as i mentioned in my last post. If someone smokes continuously he is GUARRANTeeING himself a shorter lifetime. IT IS MEDICALLY PROVEN that it caused cancer c”v, so how can you possibly say that it isn’t assur. why would a bachur start smoking??WHY?? WHY in all the out of town yeshivos are so many bachurim smoking a pack-a-day. AGUG, if you want to see what smoking causes just go to the famouse cancer center in manhattan, YOU WILL SEE OVER THERE, and your opionion will change instantly.
HIEParticipantmod, thanks for editing my typos i was very tired lastnight.
HIEParticipantVORT ON CHANUKAH (GEMATRIA)
We all know that min hadin the menorah must only burn for 30 minutes. the entire chanukah we light 36 nairos. take 36 and multiply it by 1/2 hour for each of the nairos, the result is 18 hours. every jew min hadin his nairos burn 18 hours a chanukah. the average person lives 70 years. multiply 70 years of a person’s lifetime by 18 hours a year, the result is 1260. in a person’s lifetime min hadin the menorah is suppose to burn 1260 hours.
In the bais hamikdosh there were 6 nairos that burned 24 hours a day the 8 days of chanukah. 6×24=144. 144×8=1152 the 7th ner was the ner maaravi. the ner maaravi burned 12 hours from night till morning, plus from shkiya till tzais which according to some shitos is 90 minutes which alltogether is 13 and a half hours a day the ner maaravi burned. multiply that by the 8 days of chanukah, the result is 108 hours. take the 1152 that we had before from the other 6 nairos and add that to the 108 of the ner maaravi and the equals to 1260.
In the lifetime of a person his menorah min hadin should be burning 1260 hours just like in the beis hamikdash where every chanuckah it burned 1260 hours.
The reason why the RAbbanon were mesakain that the menorah should be burning for 1/2 hour is so that in the lifetime of a person his menorah should be lit as much as the menorah in the beis hamikdash was burning for the whole chanukah.
A FREILICHEN CHANUKAH, A GUTEN CHODESH, A GUTEN EREV SHABBOS TO ALL MY FELLOW BROTHERS AND SISTERS OUT THERE.
EDITED TO CORRECT A TYPO
HIEParticipantI was once speaking to a person, he told me that he HOPES moshiach doesn’t come in our generation because even if it only lasts 12 minutes, we all know the damage that can be done in 12 minutes. ONe hydregon bomb and 1/3 of America WIPED out. SCARY!!
And we all know that Iran Yemach Shemam VZICHRo, has or very soon will have the equipment to wipe america and other countries off the map. i get the chills when i think about the war of gog u’magog, HELP!!!
December 18, 2009 3:52 am at 3:52 am in reply to: Good Bachurim Can Smoke?! What’s the Purim Heter? #671228HIEParticipantafter much thought i have changed my opinion. I officially hold that is assur to smoke min hatorah,365/solar or 354/lunar days a year. the TORAH says “Ushmartem Meod Es Nafshoseichem’ . NO HETER WHATSOEVER. IF you Can find me a heter i’d love to se it

November 11, 2009 12:38 am at 12:38 am in reply to: Anyone Else Worried About Today’s Frum Music? #793110HIEParticipantthe bottom line is as mentioned before, if you don’t make this kind of music being discussed here in the cr, available in jewish version teenagers (not specificaly ones at risk) will turn c’v to places MUCH worse, so don’t make problems that the jewish music sounds goyish, the jewish community has enough problems to face as it is.
HIEParticipantdepends, what kind of boy he is, which yeshiva he goes to, what the circumstances are, you said a very general statement.
HIEParticipantsmartcookie, i am admitting because of all you rascles over here who don’t know halacha

HIEParticipanttzippi: he has about 1 more year for his bachelors degree. my parents want him to wait another year, not necessarily because of the degree, just because they think he needs more time.

HIEParticipantFOR NOW ON: in this thread you may only post in the language of yiddish, this is officially the last english post in this thread
HIEParticipantsjsinnyc, if you wish i’ll say that Everybody should consult with their own rav and not pasken from the CR
HIEParticipantthe yiddishe yankee hotline was HILARIOUS
I THINK THIS THREAD IS A DISGRACE TO THE CR, THIS IS A TOTAL GOYISHE ZACH. I THINK THAT IT SHOULD BE CLOSED NOW
HIEParticipantI think it’s great (living in flatbush) but i think it’s only good for a tremendous frum community like flatbush and BP. But baltimore isn’t such a tremendous community and sometimes goyim can get very upset.
