I have no qualms at all using food stamps. And since the law allows any food items (other than prepared food i.e. restaurant), it can be used for any food items.

You are using non-standard definitions of Chareidi. Even the Eida HaChareidis is called that not by coincidence.

Anyways, you still haven’t elaborated on how you said you agree with me, to a large extent, on the definition of Chareidi — sans the Kollel issue.

Now, if you want to define Chareidi without the Kollel vs. working aspect, then I will agree with you, to a large extent.

Can you please elaborate on that point?

(BTW, I still don’t agree with you on the Kollel aspect. Even in Eretz Yisroel the proportion of Chareidi men in Kollel is a small portion of the number of Chareidi men working. Two points you should consider when analyzing my point is that 1) Chasidim are a large part of the Chareidi population and they generally do not stay in Kollel long (if at all) [but even the non-Chasidic Chareidim are much more working than learning full-time] and 2) Official working figures for Chareidim are very very underreported in Eretz Yisroel due to the draft situation.)

A lot more Chareidi men today work than are in Yeshiva, so the similarity to times of yore is more similar than being admitted. I doubt even 10% of Chareidi males over 18 years old are currently in Yeshiva. The derech they practice is the continuation of the derech of Klal Yisroel, with some changes throughout the generations (as golus inevitably does to us) but nevertheless much more similarities.

Were Sura and Pumpedisa also “recent innovations”? Brisk, Telz, Mir, Volozhin, etc. were all spiritual successors of Sura and Pumpedisa.

gavra_at_work, Do you actually think that pre-war Brisk, Telz, Mir, Volozhin, were akin to modern orthodox?? Yes, I know there were incidents were some outcasts were caught with kefira in the dorm, but the reason it is mentioned is as the exception.

The bottom line is you must admit you have no halachic source (presented) allowing music in the 3 weeks.

What you are saying makes no sense. No one (cited yet) holds you can play music all year including the 3 weeks. Rav Moshe said all year no. And the many poskim Chacham cited said all year yes, but the three weeks no. So everyone said no during the 3 weeks.

A Kanoy can do it to a Bo’el Aramis after the maaseh (as Yochie seems to be saying) or only during it? And is any warning needed or can he just do it on sight?

And does the Mishna in Sanhedrin 73a refer to both voluntary and involuntary mishkav zochor when saying “achar hazechur”? And is it only applicable to na’arah hame’urasah or to an eishes ish as well?

And is it applicable only before the act? If the witness finds it in middle and the person refuses to stop, the witness can’t do anything on the spot to save the victim?

Rav Moshe in igros moshe says that there is no difference between sefirah and the rest of the year in regards to music.

Is that not because Rav Moshe is machmir against music equally the whole time? Which means Rav Moshe too, like all the numerous poskim cited by Chacham, says no music during the 3 weeks.

Shadchanus is like picking stocks. When picking individual stocks you rarely win. You need to buy mutual funds with many stocks and you’ll have some winners. Similarly in shidduchim you keep throwing darts until some stick.

Yaakov Avinu did 3 things when he was about to face Eisav: Tefila, sent presents and prepared for confrontation.

Traditionally that’s what we’ve often done when in trouble. When some anti-semite came to do us harm, we’d pull out our wallet say “Hey, Chris, here’s some gelt, go enjoy a few beers at the bar.” He would forget that stick he came to beat us with and run off for greener pastures.

A person who is mechallel Shabbos can do teshuvah and turn his life around. All the teshuvah in the world however, will not bring back a murder victim. It is comparing apples and oranges.

Both a mechallel Shabbos and a murderer can do teshuva.

That depends. In a Chasidic shul you shouldn’t be wearing a tie ever. In a Yeshivish shul you should always be wearing a tie on Shabbos. You must be referring to the beinenim.
