I looked into this sheila and came to some interesting conclusions.
Black and White E-readers use E-ink and work differently than a regular screen does. The way the screens work is by using a jolt of electricity to move the e-ink to form the words on the page. When you “turn the page” it sends a new jolt of electricity to move the e-ink to form new words. When the e-ink is on the page it uses no electricity and stays there PERMANENTLY. This is how e-readers have a 2 month battery life – the battery is only used to move the e-ink every time you turn the page. A regular screen requires a constant flow of electricity to maintain the words on it. That is part of the heter for erasing Hashem’s name from the screen, because it is not permanent.
I contacted the maker of the nook nuki and he responded that he doesn’t think this is how e-readers book, it should be no different than a regular screen, and even if they work then the screensaver will automatically erase it so it is temporary.
He also referenced all of the Rabbinical endorsements of the device (which were full of praise because it is “kosher” because no internet and spreading torah). I doubt that his Rabbinical endorsements are aware of the technical workings of the screen, especially if he denies that’s how it works.
You evaluate the creators response to my question and determine if you are erasing Hashem’s name.
