Really? I never heard that…
It will be relevant next year, as nittel will indeed be on Shabbos.GoldilocksParticipantHuju: If Senator Lieberman had, in fact, been a moneychanger at one point in his career, I would have no problem with that.
GoldilocksParticipantAccording to Meno, if you are vaccinated and then exposed to the virus, the vaccine won’t prevent you from picking up the virus; it will merely prevent you from feeling sick or showing symptoms of illness. You may still be contagious and capable of infecting others.
If this is true, does anyone else see how the vaccination may worsen the pandemic instead of bettering it?GoldilocksParticipantParticipant:
The only thing Indian about Warren are the Natives on her feet.π
πππGoldilocksParticipant“Trump’s term is coming to an end,”
And you were the one who wanted something nice?
Hahaha!

GoldilocksParticipantGot it!

GoldilocksParticipantCatch Yourself, it was new to me. CT Lawyer, thanks for injecting some humor into the coffee room!
GoldilocksParticipantAkuperma, I think that CTLawyer was talking about Trump π
GoldilocksParticipantI beg your pardon, but I disagree.
GoldilocksParticipantWhat’s disgusting about it?
GoldilocksParticipantRational wrote, “the oilam hatorah feels this sheltering is a small price to pay for keeping their neshamos pure”.
Sorry, Rational, but you can’t have it both ways.
I grew up in a very sheltered environment, with parents and teachers who believed that that was best. As a teenager, it would never have occurred to me to so much as walk to a neighborhood store without first informing a parent as to where I was going and when I would be back. Traveling to a foreign country without my parents researching every single detail of my trip in advance would have been as impossible as my taking a trip to Mars.
If you want to give your children more freedom than that, okay. It’s a new generation. I hear that. But, in that case, face reality: Your children are not sheltered. In that case, it is your responsibility as a parent to educate them. Let them know that there are people out there who will take advantage of them if given the opportunity, and teach them the importance of being careful. Don’t allow them traveling privileges until the message has been recieved.GoldilocksParticipantThat bad?
GoldilocksParticipantI’m not speaking from anyone’s experience, just from common sense.
But now that you mention it, I remember reading about a non-jew who did such a test and found out that one of his grandparents had been accidentally switched with another baby when they were born.
What makes you think that such a story can’t happen to a kew?GoldilocksParticipantIs there a specific reason why you need this information?
Or would you be doing this purely out of curiosity?
If your motive is curiosity, it’s not a good idea. You may not like the answers you get.GoldilocksParticipantOn the subject of coronavirus: Yes, Biden’s approach is probably better than Trump’s.
That said, the coronavirus so far has been managed mainly by state governors, and they’re unlikely to give up their authority so easily.
Also, Biden will be aware that the election was a close one, and he’ll be reluctant to do anything very controversial at first. I believe he’s already said that he won’t impose a national lockdown.GoldilocksParticipantWhat’s crazy about that?
It’s always a good idea to keep your passport current.GoldilocksParticipantTakahmamash, it’s impressive that you have a shofar and know how to use it. But please don’t use it at your home minyan on the first day of Rosh Hashana.

August 7, 2020 1:16 pm at 1:16 pm in reply to: What if the Witnesses Don’t Want to Kill Him? #1890326GoldilocksParticipantReb Eliezer, is it a novel concept to you that people should be required to comply with orders given to them by a Bais Din?
Are you suggesting that compliance ought to be oprional?
Btw would you mind sticking to English in the future? It’s kind of a tease when I’m following a thread and there’s a post I don’t understand.August 7, 2020 9:08 am at 9:08 am in reply to: What if the Witnesses Don’t Want to Kill Him? #1890282GoldilocksParticipantA long time ago, Bais Din actually had the power to control life and death. They had the ability to enforce their rulings.
When Bais Din ordered someone to do something, it made no difference whether or not the person “wanted to” comply or not. Bais Din was quite capable of ensuring that their rulings were complied with.GoldilocksParticipantAmil Zola: I don’t know where you live, but here in NY we get storm watches/warnings almost every year, and 90% of the time it turns out to be an ordinary rainstorm, if even that. So yes, this storm was surprising, and most people weren’t really prepared.
GoldilocksParticipantAnonymous Jew, it’s really not the same thing.
The radio show you’re referring to is presumably not marketed specifically for people in availus. It’s geared to a varied audience, and everyone needs to make their own decision as to wether or not it’s suitable for them.
The shows Moshe from Midwood are discussing are different. They are produced with the specific intention that they should be viewed on Tisha B’av. Any type of music seems inappropriate in that setting.GoldilocksParticipantYou have a point. Fortunately, Hashem created our bodies with something called an immune system that does a marvelous job of protecting us from things like this. In every part of our lives, we are constantly being exposed to germs, and guess what – our bodies deal with it! Whether it’s going to the grocery and pushing a shopping cart that someone else touched, bringing in the mail that the mail carrier handled, etc…our bodies deal with so much on an everyday basis. Library books don’t strain their abilities as much as you think.
July 24, 2020 11:17 am at 11:17 am in reply to: Does Anyone (Basically) Know (Like) How to Talk (Whatever)? #1886331GoldilocksParticipantIf the US president were to give a public address in which he spoke like a refined human being, emergency services would be overwhelmed as people would be collapsing in shock…
GoldilocksParticipantAs much as I dislike De Blasio, I certainly do not think it’s okay for anyone to call him “Hitler”.
GoldilocksParticipantDoing my best: Does the General Grant National Memorial (also known as Grants Tomb) in New York bother you at all? After all, it is well known that General Grant treated the Jews terribly.
Would you support – or lead – legal efforts to have it removed?GoldilocksParticipantCoffee addict: Your memory serves you better than you think.
Must be the coffee…:)GoldilocksParticipantDoing my best: Yes, a statue of Hitler would indeed bother me very much.
However, assuming that the statue was not located on my own property, I would leave it alone. I have no right to destroy property belonging to others just because it bothers me.
If I did, for some reason, destroy public property, I would fully expect to face serious legal consequences. I’m surprised that anyone would think otherwise.GoldilocksParticipantHuju: If you want to give such a class, I am willing to attend.
Can you start the class by explaining the difference between calling a former washroom attendant a washroom attendant and calling a former farmer a farmer?GoldilocksParticipantHuju: I have no memories of David Dinkins and therefore cannot comment on the kind of mayor he was or wasn’t. However: If someone was, in fact, a washroom attendant, is it so terrible to refer to him as such? I grew up enjoying a Miami Boys Choir song where the former President Carter is openly referred to as a “farmer”, and I never saw anything wrong with that. In fact, I still don’t.
GoldilocksParticipantAvi, that would bother me very much. I would certainly make every effort to look for a new job, for fear of being influenced by my companions.
If finding a new job were impossible, I hope I would feel real disgust at the though of spending time with people who think it’s cool to lie, cheat and gossip.
As to your concern that someone may “cancel” me? Well, for one, I don’t think it’s cool to do avairos. Secondly, if someone would avoid my company out of a genuine concern that my middos are not up to their standard, well, good for them!GoldilocksParticipantThe questions raised by TheLittleIKnow are good ones that really should be addressed by a halachic authority; however, I will hazard a few guesses.
Does despising someone mean…
…attacking them violently?
Probably not.
…feeling nausea in their presence?
Probably. If someone were to smack your parents in the face, would you not feel nausea in their presence?
…ignoring them, not conversing with them, refusing to work in their proximity?
Conversing with them should be kept to a minimum.Yiddishekup: You make a very valid point; thank you for bringing that up. If someone struggles in a certain area, wants to do the right thing and tries hard, but sometimes messes up, such a person should not be called a rasha. There’s no mitzva to hate such a person.
However, the vast majority of people being discusses here do not fall into that category.GoldilocksParticipantHaimy,
I am jealous.
I wish I was on your level in avodas Hashem!June 18, 2020 3:15 pm at 3:15 pm in reply to: Outdoor Dining Proscrpition in Halacha – Phase 2 Reopening #1874105GoldilocksParticipantDoes eating in an outdoor area that has been specifically designated for eating fall under the category of “eating in the street”?
Is an outdoor restaurant any different than eating my own food in the picnic area of a park? Or eating my own food in my backyard?June 8, 2020 4:28 pm at 4:28 pm in reply to: If N.Y. doesnβt allow summer camps to open, whatβs your plan? #1869269GoldilocksParticipantCommonsaychel: I would rather walk through a room full of Corona patients, and kiss every single one of them, than vacation in Syria.
May 17, 2020 3:55 pm at 3:55 pm in reply to: Which cities in the US will have summer camp open? #1861580GoldilocksParticipantLet’s see if I understand you correctly.
You’re planning on having a newborn baby in your house this summer.
You’re looking for a day camp for your five boys…which means you’ll be getting five batches of fresh germs delivered to your doorstep daily.
Um…GoldilocksParticipant2020 is a unique leap year. It has 29 days in February, 300 days in March, and 10 years in April.
GoldilocksParticipantLock down MAY END by MAY END or MAY not END by MAY END as it MAY extend. But MAY will END by MAY END even if lock down does not END.
GoldilocksParticipantI’m sorry that you feel that way. In any case, the point of this thread was to obtain information on bike paths that may be open. I wasn’t asking anyone’s opinion on my activities.
GoldilocksParticipantThat’s not true, Joseph. It’s not common, but there are definitely frum women who bicycle.
GoldilocksParticipantFriends, enough.
We must always remember that human beings – no matter how despicable their actions may be – are still humans, created in the Divine Image.
By calling them “baboons” “chimpanzees” and other such titles, you demean not only them, you also demean Hashem, who created them and in whose image they were created.
Certainly, we can, and sometimes should, disagree with other’s behavior and attitude in the strongest possible terms, but there needs to be limits.
As an aside, I want to remind you that the Internet is not a private space. I shudder to think of the consequences should people not from the yeshiva world read your remarks.GoldilocksParticipantAlyosha Karamazov: misdemeanors are sometimes punishable by jail time. And no, you don’t get to bring your children along with you.
GoldilocksParticipantHomeowner: (dials 911): Police, police, help! There are two armed men robbing my house!
Police: Unfortunately, we are understaffed at the moment; there’s nothing we can do about it.
Homeowner: They are standing fewer than six feet apart from each other…
Police: Hold it, we’ll be there right away!GoldilocksParticipantI couldn’t agree more. A Jewish name is a beautiful thing.
GoldilocksParticipantI have not seen this bal haturim myself (my knowledge of Hebrew is pretty poor), but someone told me that it’s in Parshas Shemos, perek yud bais, passuk ches.
