GoldilocksParticipant
Ymribiat, you are touching on a sore topic here!
Most of the frum residents of Rockland are pretty upset by the construction going on here. The problem is that people who come in from out-of-town, but property here, and bribe the local officials to allow them to build multifamily dwellings.
Most of the time, before a multifamily house is built, there is a hearing in Town Hall before the builder gets permission to build. Its happened so many times that the entire neighborhood comes to the meeting to protest, and the permit is given anyway.
I personally know someone who attended such a meeting. The building was going to take place in her neighborhood; she and all her neighbors attended the meeting and howled in protest. Afterward, this person approached a town official privately and commented, “but if they pay you enough money, they’ll get the permit. Right?” The reply was, “uhh… right”.GoldilocksParticipantAviraDeArah: If a man is walking toward a door and notices a woman following behind him who is pushing a baby stroller or has her hands full, is it halachically problematic for him to hold the door open for her?
I’m not trying to be cynical here; I’m honestly curious to hear your thoughts on this.
As far as kiddush Hashem is concerned, any behavior on one’s part that reflects the fact that one is a servant of Hashem automatically constitutes as kiddush Hashem.
The opposite type of behavior constitutes the opposite of a kiddush Hashem.GoldilocksParticipantYabia Omer, the interesting phenomenon is this: There are 4 possible days of the week that the first day of Pesach can fall out on. 2022 – 2025 will be a four- year span where we have Pesach occurring on each of the four possible days.
It’s interesting to note that we had the same phenomenon during the years 2021 – 2024.
After 2025, the first day of Pesach won’t occur on Sunday again for approximately 20 years.GoldilocksParticipantRockland County, New York. I share my backyard with squirrels, groundhogs and deer. Baruch Hashem, I have never spotted a bear in my neighborhood- though I know people who have!!!
GoldilocksParticipantTheshadchansays: Pizza is generally not eaten with a fork; fingers are acceptable.
But if you regularly eat foods such as chulent, kugel, rice and sesame chicken with your fingers, to the point where you’re not entirely sure what a fork is for or how to use it, you should definitely practice at home!December 6, 2021 9:46 am at 9:46 am in reply to: WILL HASC CONCERT TICKETS GET CHEAPER THAN FIVE HUNDRED MEYOS??? #2038436GoldilocksParticipantUjm, perhaps, but anyone has the right to charge admission for entering their property.
If I hold a concert or Torah class on my property or on a property that I am currently renting, I’m allowed to charge an entry fee.
Anyone sneaking onto the premises without paying is guilty of theft.
If someone would to find a space on public property that’s close enough for them to hear the class or concert, they would be allowed to stand there and enjoy without paying.GoldilocksParticipantWhat’s considered insulting is very dependent on many factors, such as:
Your relationship with the person you’re speaking with.
The context in which the comment was made.
The speaker’s tone of voice, facial expressions and body language.
How many and which people the comment was made in the presence of.
A remark that seems highly offensive in one situation may seem innocent or even complimentary in another.GoldilocksParticipantThe definition of Kiddush Hashem is: Anything that increases Hashem’s honor in this world.
If I, sitting in the total privacy of my own home, reach for my smartphone to access a trashy website, and then, deciding it won’t do anything good for my mind, decide to reach for a Jewish book (or better yet, a sefer) instead- that’s a kiddush hashem.
If, during a conversation with a friend, I have the urge to relate a interesting bit of loshon Horace, but then think better of it and keep quiet- that’s a kiddush hashem.GoldilocksParticipantNittel on December 24th, from sunset until midnight. This year it’s on Shabbos.
GoldilocksParticipantUmj, nittel occurs on Shabbos this year; please don’t spend time online on Shabbos!
GoldilocksParticipantIf any of the men on this forum would offer to support me financially for the rest of their lives so that I can spend my time baking brownies, knitting, and learning Chumash…it’s a deal.
I’ll even share the brownies with him.GoldilocksParticipantA custard donut, please. π
Tonight’s Rosh Chodesh, and I need to start practicing for Chanukah!GoldilocksParticipantUjm, is WoW reform? If you say it is, I believe you; however, many people are unaware of this.
GoldilocksParticipantCan you be more specific?

GoldilocksParticipantAny coffee room is only as good as its participants.
Get to work!GoldilocksParticipantThat’s a pretty disrespectful way to talk about a serious and important topic.
I have an urge to give you a taste of something “geshmake” and “horrifying” right now.GoldilocksParticipantThat’s terrible.
Someone should have asked them to leave.GoldilocksParticipantFarbycoffe, do you have wax in your ears?
I told you I like being myself.π©βπ«πΈπ΄ββοΈGoldilocksParticipantI don’t want to be a bochur.
I like being myself.π©βπ«πΈπ΄ββοΈGoldilocksParticipantI’m not a bochur and never have been (well, at least not in this lifetime).
GoldilocksParticipantUJM: A person who isn’t qualified to be President (for whatever reason) cannot be elected vice-president.
GoldilocksParticipantIf it’s only opinions, then yes.
GoldilocksParticipantShmili, it means “also”.
GoldilocksParticipantIt’s your choice whether or not to wear what’s in style.
I generally decide what to wear based on my own taste and comfort. And no, I haven’t been arrested. Not yet, anyway.GoldilocksParticipantWhat do you call the lubavitcher rebbe’s driver?
The chauffeur shell moshiach.GoldilocksParticipantI couldn’t agree more!
Library fees can be easily avoided by acting responsibly.
Unfortunately, that doesn’t seem to be a popular value nowadays.GoldilocksParticipantThe Vilna Gaon and Rashbi lived lifestyles that did not in any way resemble “normal”.
Very few people today would be capable of living like that.GoldilocksParticipantA quick update: I ended up purchasing a pair of gerbils about five weeks ago, from PetSmart. I’m keeping them in a 20 – gallon glass aquarium with a tank topper, and they seem to be enjoying it. They are adorable, playful animals who love to run, chew up their toys, and dig in their bedding. Anyone who sends empty paper towel or toilet paper rolls to my house will become my friend.
Sorry it took so long to update you; I’ve been too busy playing with my gerbils! πGoldilocksParticipantIf, as you say, you’ve bought both, then you are in a good position to know which is better.
But the truth is that they’re both tasty drinks. It may just be a question of which you’re in the mood of at that particular moment.
Good luck. May you never have more serious troubles than this.GoldilocksParticipantI get calls all the time about extending my car’s warranty!
Unfortunately, I cannot take them up on the offer, as I don’t own a car (sigh).GoldilocksParticipantCoffee addict:
Your story is not the least bit funny.
Not even close.July 12, 2021 11:10 pm at 11:10 pm in reply to: Do you try on clean clothes before the 9 days? #1990940GoldilocksParticipantOkay, here’s the drill (at least this is what I do):
1) Wake up on the 27th of Tamuz.
Get dressed in fresh clothes.
2) At noontime (or at some point during the day, whenever it’s convenient) change your clothes. Put on a fresh outfit and put what you’ve worn until now in a secure location.
3) Before bedtime, remove the second set of clothes and put them with the first set.
4) Repeat the above procedure on the 28th and 29th of Tamuz.
You now have six changes of clothes that can be worn during the nine days.
The nine days consist of 7 weekdays this year (8 in other years).
You will be just fine!GoldilocksParticipantChocolate mousse
Ice cream
π¦π¨π§GoldilocksParticipantPekak: Yes, that’s right.
Later on in Sefer Bamidbar, after he sinned and caused the deaths of thousands of Jews, he is identified as Zimri.
At the beginning of the sefer, though, he is identified as the Nassi of Shevet Shimon. At this point he was still a righteous person, and he is therefore called “Shlumiel”, which means, “at peace with Hashem”.GoldilocksParticipantI live in a house that doesn’t have enough room for a pony or mongoose.
Shtark, who exactly are you calling “achi?”
And I’ve already explained why I don’t want a ferret; however, I would be interested in hearing about your experiences.
Finally, since gerbils have an average lifespan of 2 – 3 years, I don’t expect that acid will be necessary.GoldilocksParticipantEviezer is a name??? Where did you come up with that?
GoldilocksParticipantFerrets are considered serious biters, so much so that it’s illegal to keep them as pets in some locations.
Since I don’t have much pet experience, a ferret doesn’t seem like a good choice.GoldilocksParticipantShlumiel. It’s a name mentioned multiple times in the beginning of Sefer Bamidbar, and it has a gorgeous meaning.
March 23, 2021 11:29 am at 11:29 am in reply to: How are you cleaning your face mask for Pesach?π· #1959912GoldilocksParticipantConcerned Member, of course I wash them regularly; however, Pesach cleaning is different.
For example, I wash my fabric tablecloths regularly in the washing machine, yet most people I know have separate tablecloths for Pesach. We wouldn’t feel comfortable setting our Pesach table with the same tablecloth we used for our pizza party, regardless of how well it was washed.January 27, 2021 7:16 pm at 7:16 pm in reply to: Discussion on age of three at maximum age at which an uncle can touch a niece #1943161GoldilocksParticipantDoesn’t it also depend on the age of the uncle? (For example, what if the uncle is a toddler?)
GoldilocksParticipantCute.
I’ve been thinking of buying a pet lately, and YWN is bombarding me with ads for pet cages!GoldilocksParticipantSyag: Knitting, embroidery, hook rug.
I don’t know how to do lanyard.
Commonsaychel, that sounds scary! Is that what you do?πGoldilocksParticipantCommonsaychel and Syag: Do you have any garden – defense tips to share? I used to enjoy growing vegetables until a few years ago, when some groundhogs destroyed my fence and ate all the plants. I would love some advice on getting it started again.
GoldilocksParticipantBesides being a serious book addict, I enjoy having lots of hobbies! I love cooking, baking, working on jigsaw puzzles, various craft projects, and playing chess. In the summer I enjoy bicycling. I’m also a bit obsessed with roller coasters. Ever since American Dream opened, I’ve been trying to work up the courage to try out their big, scary coaster…so far that hasn’t happened.
One hobby that’s somewhat taken me by surprise: Pre-corona, I was really not the clothes-conscious type, preferring comfort over looks. I can’t believe how much I really like collecting pretty face masks! I enjoy wearing them, and am often eager to dress up and show off my latest style.GoldilocksParticipantAnyone here like horse stories?
I’ve read the “Heartland” series by Lauren Brooke; they were extremely enjoyable. I also read the “Thoroughbred” series by Joanna Campbell.GoldilocksParticipantSure!
What are some of your hobbies?
How do you typically spend your time when you’re not in the coffee room?GoldilocksParticipantWhat did you expect to hear?
GoldilocksParticipantIs biking on congested streets dangerous? Well, how about driving or walking on congested streets?
As long as you stay aware of your surroundings, obey the rules of the road, and are honest with yourself about your abilities and limitations, you should be just fine.GoldilocksParticipantGreatest President since Obama
