Geordie613ParticipantShouldn’t it be called AbbaFather?
Geordie613ParticipantDoes anyone know if the tikunim have been carried out in Manchester in time for this Shabbos?
Geordie613Participantrabbiofberlin,
I would also have thought that opposition to the London eruv was political, except for the fact that Rabbi Pinchos Roberts Shlita is against it. He is not a politics man, is an Ish Emmess, and doesn’t exaggerate in any way.
Geordie613ParticipantAlso the UK is a sfek sfeika. If Scotland votes for independence then it will be called the disUK.
Geordie613Participantbut seriously, some rabonim i go to, do answer by text, if its a simple straight forward answer.
Geordie613Participanta bit off topic, but i had an idea of a website where you put in your shaaloh, put in your required answer, and it tells you which rav to go to.

Geordie613ParticipantIt’s because the UK is small and insignificant. The world consists of New York, Out of town, and Eretz Yisroel.
Geordie613ParticipantReb Chaim (as we European yiedden call Rav Kanievsky Shlita) told a friend of mine that he should be able to afford long sleeves for his son,(who was wearing a short sleeve collared shirt).
Geordie613ParticipantFried doughnuts are always mezonos and al hamichyoh, even if you have kdai s’viah.
Geordie613ParticipantIf you’re a male – Find a seat in the Mir, and learn. Prepare R’ Osher’s shiur and go to it.
Geordie613ParticipantIt is said that there is still a cherem on York. Many people visit the museum or whatever it is that is there, but don’t stay overnight. (If you ever are in England, and travel intercity by train, York is a major interchange station. The museum is across the road from the station and apparently its kedai to visit if you can.)
Geordie613ParticipantShlomo in german is translated as Salamon, and from there became Zalman.
Geordie613ParticipantMany people go to blood soaked Spain. Is that ok?
Geordie613ParticipantMehadrin available in UK now.
Geordie613ParticipantRabeinu Shalom.
Geordie613ParticipantI don’t know if you remember the 1st gulf war, but i remember seeing pictures of abandoned shoes and boots. when the Iraqis fled the advancing American troops, they threw off there boots and shoes and ran barefoot trough the desert.
They are uncivilised arabs, they are brought up without shoes so may be quicker than your sneakers
Geordie613ParticipantNo, I’m not confusing the issue. I will check up again, but there is a sefardic opinion that the tzitzis threads are to be tucked into the corner of the beged.
Geordie613ParticipantI have seen the mishna brura, and he says to wear the tzitzis tucked INTO THE CORNER OF THE GARMENT. Not into the trousers, (in England we don’t tuck them into pants, its not nice) but into the actual garment, in the double fold of the material. I have seen sefardim do this.
Geordie613ParticipantI know of people who fly from London via Dubai to Australia, so Turkish is tame compared to that. (at least Turkey as officially at peace with Israel)
October 17, 2013 12:13 pm at 12:13 pm in reply to: Is there a way to tell if an Esrog is murcav? #979116Geordie613ParticipantTwisted, you dont mention anything about the Chazon Ish esrogim, which are also known as, Lefkowitz, shapira or halpern after the 3 original talmidim who started growing them.
October 17, 2013 8:20 am at 8:20 am in reply to: Is there a way to tell if an Esrog is murcav? #979114Geordie613ParticipantThere was a great article in the Yom Kippur edition of mishpacha about this subject. It seems there is no simple way to tell.
Geordie613Participant😉
There’s been a lot of stuff about accents on here recently. Maybe influenced by parshas noach…?
Geordie613Participantgolfer, Of course. so it can be used on shabbos, without tearing.
Geordie613ParticipantI have heard baalei keriah (who do not lisp) reading tav as ‘th’, while samech and sin are read ‘s’. One of them is HaRav Binyomin Finkel Shlit”a (of the Mir).

How can you say, “…whose psakim I find to be grounded in a very sensible approach…”??
Halacha depends on the poskim and the gedolim, not what YOU find.
Geordie613ParticipantThey probably wore tfilin at shacharis on the first day, as Rav Ovadia was niftar late in the morning/early afternoon. The next day was already the 2nd day
October 8, 2013 4:22 pm at 4:22 pm in reply to: Why no mention of Rav Ovadiah in Monsey/Lakewood, etc. #978721Geordie613ParticipantYussel, You don’t just say a hesped randomly. What would happen in the yeshivos i learned in is that at the end of shiva, they would finish seder at 6 (instead of 7.30) and the Rosh Yeshiva and a famous talmid of the niftar would speak for say 45 minutes each.
You cant expect that to be arranged on the day of the petira at a few hours notice.
October 8, 2013 1:38 pm at 1:38 pm in reply to: Why no mention of Rav Ovadiah in Monsey/Lakewood, etc. #978709Geordie613ParticipantHe only passed away yesterday, it is the begining of zman. I’m certain there will be something once the yeshivos settle down. Maybe for end of shiva or shloshim
Geordie613ParticipantIn Addition to Ohr Chodosh and Kehillas Ohel Moshe which are ashkenaz, you may also look up Imrei Shefer, which is nusach sfard, young, yeshivish, a few french speakers, and is at 19 Highfield road, top floor. The Rav is Rabbi Meir Rapoport.
There are quite a few Antwerpian french speakers at Dayan Ehrentreu’s shul which is listed above.
September 12, 2013 7:32 pm at 7:32 pm in reply to: Where can I find Vidui with additional Aveiros? #974754Geordie613ParticipantLooks like from Harav Moishe Sternbuch Shlita’s sefer
Geordie613Participant1. I once went to a shiur on Yom tov, where someone asked “Why on yomtov do we eat sleep eat sleep eat sleep eat sleep?” The Rov, got very upset and said, “Don’t you daven!?” and then went into a half an hour mussar shmuess on the subject that Yomim tovim are only given for people to learn Torah. So advice number one is, Take a sefer, any sefer and sit and learn an hour or two.
2. Eat a milchik or parev meal on second night, or if you are makpid on meat, have cold cuts or something light.
3. Take walks or at least spend some time outside in the fresh air.
4. Cold showers are not fun, but it sure wakes you up for the next tfila. There is a mitzva called “Lo teshaktzu”, as well as the bein odom lechaveiro issues.
July 29, 2013 5:39 pm at 5:39 pm in reply to: Lo Yilbash (YWN Article about R' Chaim Kavievsky Shlit"a and wristwatches) #968727Geordie613ParticipantI heard this psak from Dayan Dunner in London. R’ Chaim quotes this as the psak of the Chazon Ish and not his own. They showed him a picture of his shver Rav Elyashiv wearing a watch. He said The Chazon Ish did not allow it. Dayan Dunner commented that everything else Rav Elyashiv did according to the Chazon Ish, so its interesting that on this point he differed.
Geordie613ParticipantThank you notasheep for your sensible replies
Geordie613ParticipantLondon!! It’s only exactly 3500 miles away.
July 24, 2013 9:01 am at 9:01 am in reply to: About people asking me the time while I'm lifeguarding I do shudder #1020752Geordie613ParticipantYou are there for safety, so whatever you have to do to keep people safe is right.
Geordie613ParticipantIt is definitely a momentous occasion in the life of the British nation. Also, possibly for citizens of the realms of Canada, Australia, New Zealand etc. The Monarchy is a stabilising influence on political and social life in Britain.
There was talk that Mrs Middleton, who’s maiden name is Goldsmith may have had Jewish roots. However, this has been disproven.
We now have 3 living direct heirs to the Throne for the first time since Queen Victoria’s time. I’m sure there will be a slight addition to ‘Hanosein Tshua’ this Shabbos.
May the Malchus shel Chesed continue to be benevolent to the yieden, until the time when we enter Malcus shel melech haMoshiach.

Geordie613ParticipantNelson Mandela. 1st democratically elected President of South Africa.
He was jailed for 28 years and came out of prison, and forgave those who put him there in order to build a Rainbow Nation out of all the different strands of society. He created unity out of people who were suspicious and distrustful of each other. We should learn a lesson from him, in being mevater and machshiv people despite their differences.
Viva Tata Madiba Viva
Geordie613ParticipantThey only kept the whole torah in Eretz Yisroel. That’s why Rochel was niftar as Yaacov returned to EY from Lovon’s house.
Don’t remember where I saw that.
Geordie613ParticipantThat’s not yeshivish. Anyone to whom english is a second language will naturally use the grammar or syntax of their 1st language.
“Ich hot gedrived a gerenteter car” Is that bad yiddish or bad english, or good Boro Parkish?
Geordie613Participant8 weeks?? 10 weeks?? 2 more??
Here in England schools are finishing mostly after tisha b’av this year. Some will finish earlier, in order to have two weeks of school before Rosh Hashana.
(I think, school here means up to age 17/18, not like in the US where you’re forever going to school. Afterwards we call it Yeshiva, sem, college or uni etc.)
6 weeks is standard here. Does anyone else have that amount?
Geordie613ParticipantK9hora,
Hpw many daf yomi shiurim are there in Toronto, and how many people?
Geordie613ParticipantI have discussed this before somewhere.
Many of our tefilos, selichos and piyutim were written in rhyme.
I was told by a prominent rov, to always use the haavara you were originally taught in.
Geordie613ParticipantGateshead Kollel. Very yeshivish minyan, davens 8 a.m. on Shavuos morning.
April 22, 2013 12:45 pm at 12:45 pm in reply to: Weird, but I don't know if this has any halachic implication #1146911Geordie613Participantkotel613 is right. Bloat is treated in the UK (i don’t know about the US) with medication, and therefore there is no problem. It is a problem with imported meat from Argentina for example, where a farmer just lightly punctures the stomach wall to let out the air. This renders the animal treif and is almost undetectable. For this reason, many kashrus organisations have cutback on their imported, and cheaper, meat.
As to the OP, it may be your imagination?
Geordie613ParticipantThe easiest way to explain this, is that Adam was created as an adult. He was 1 day old, but looked like he was, let’s say, 25 years old.
