    rabbiofberlin,

I would also have thought that opposition to the London eruv was political, except for the fact that Rabbi Pinchos Roberts Shlita is against it. He is not a politics man, is an Ish Emmess, and doesn’t exaggerate in any way.

a bit off topic, but i had an idea of a website where you put in your shaaloh, put in your required answer, and it tells you which rav to go to.

It’s because the UK is small and insignificant. The world consists of New York, Out of town, and Eretz Yisroel.

It is said that there is still a cherem on York. Many people visit the museum or whatever it is that is there, but don’t stay overnight. (If you ever are in England, and travel intercity by train, York is a major interchange station. The museum is across the road from the station and apparently its kedai to visit if you can.)

I don’t know if you remember the 1st gulf war, but i remember seeing pictures of abandoned shoes and boots. when the Iraqis fled the advancing American troops, they threw off there boots and shoes and ran barefoot trough the desert.

They are uncivilised arabs, they are brought up without shoes so may be quicker than your sneakers

No, I’m not confusing the issue. I will check up again, but there is a sefardic opinion that the tzitzis threads are to be tucked into the corner of the beged.

I have seen the mishna brura, and he says to wear the tzitzis tucked INTO THE CORNER OF THE GARMENT. Not into the trousers, (in England we don’t tuck them into pants, its not nice) but into the actual garment, in the double fold of the material. I have seen sefardim do this.

Yussel, You don’t just say a hesped randomly. What would happen in the yeshivos i learned in is that at the end of shiva, they would finish seder at 6 (instead of 7.30) and the Rosh Yeshiva and a famous talmid of the niftar would speak for say 45 minutes each.

You cant expect that to be arranged on the day of the petira at a few hours notice.

He only passed away yesterday, it is the begining of zman. I’m certain there will be something once the yeshivos settle down. Maybe for end of shiva or shloshim

In Addition to Ohr Chodosh and Kehillas Ohel Moshe which are ashkenaz, you may also look up Imrei Shefer, which is nusach sfard, young, yeshivish, a few french speakers, and is at 19 Highfield road, top floor. The Rav is Rabbi Meir Rapoport.

There are quite a few Antwerpian french speakers at Dayan Ehrentreu’s shul which is listed above.

    1. I once went to a shiur on Yom tov, where someone asked “Why on yomtov do we eat sleep eat sleep eat sleep eat sleep?” The Rov, got very upset and said, “Don’t you daven!?” and then went into a half an hour mussar shmuess on the subject that Yomim tovim are only given for people to learn Torah. So advice number one is, Take a sefer, any sefer and sit and learn an hour or two.

    2. Eat a milchik or parev meal on second night, or if you are makpid on meat, have cold cuts or something light.

    3. Take walks or at least spend some time outside in the fresh air.

    4. Cold showers are not fun, but it sure wakes you up for the next tfila. There is a mitzva called “Lo teshaktzu”, as well as the bein odom lechaveiro issues.

I heard this psak from Dayan Dunner in London. R’ Chaim quotes this as the psak of the Chazon Ish and not his own. They showed him a picture of his shver Rav Elyashiv wearing a watch. He said The Chazon Ish did not allow it. Dayan Dunner commented that everything else Rav Elyashiv did according to the Chazon Ish, so its interesting that on this point he differed.

It is definitely a momentous occasion in the life of the British nation. Also, possibly for citizens of the realms of Canada, Australia, New Zealand etc. The Monarchy is a stabilising influence on political and social life in Britain.

There was talk that Mrs Middleton, who’s maiden name is Goldsmith may have had Jewish roots. However, this has been disproven.

We now have 3 living direct heirs to the Throne for the first time since Queen Victoria’s time. I’m sure there will be a slight addition to ‘Hanosein Tshua’ this Shabbos.

May the Malchus shel Chesed continue to be benevolent to the yieden, until the time when we enter Malcus shel melech haMoshiach.

Nelson Mandela. 1st democratically elected President of South Africa.

He was jailed for 28 years and came out of prison, and forgave those who put him there in order to build a Rainbow Nation out of all the different strands of society. He created unity out of people who were suspicious and distrustful of each other. We should learn a lesson from him, in being mevater and machshiv people despite their differences.

    8 weeks?? 10 weeks?? 2 more??

Here in England schools are finishing mostly after tisha b’av this year. Some will finish earlier, in order to have two weeks of school before Rosh Hashana.

(I think, school here means up to age 17/18, not like in the US where you’re forever going to school. Afterwards we call it Yeshiva, sem, college or uni etc.)

6 weeks is standard here. Does anyone else have that amount?

kotel613 is right. Bloat is treated in the UK (i don’t know about the US) with medication, and therefore there is no problem. It is a problem with imported meat from Argentina for example, where a farmer just lightly punctures the stomach wall to let out the air. This renders the animal treif and is almost undetectable. For this reason, many kashrus organisations have cutback on their imported, and cheaper, meat.

As to the OP, it may be your imagination?

The easiest way to explain this, is that Adam was created as an adult. He was 1 day old, but looked like he was, let’s say, 25 years old.
