Geordie613Participant
Newcastle, NE England.
Coal mining capital of the world (or at least Europe, but definitely England). Oh, also my birthplace.
Geordie613ParticipantReally?! Our mashgiach never allowed us to discuss chavrusos before Taanis Esther.
Geordie613ParticipantAnd… That’s all Folks!
Geordie613ParticipantI, like Ted Cruz and Barack Obama, was not born in the US, and therefore will not attempt to run for the US presidency in 2016, nor for that matter the presidency of any country in any year. OK, maybe Liberland if B1g B0y tells us where it is (or isn’t).
Interesting how Americans ‘run for office’, while in England one ‘stands for election’.
Geordie613ParticipantIceland was posted on page 2, 4 years ago! Do we let it stand? Is there a statute of limitations?
Geordie613ParticipantEmpangeni, KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa
Geordie613ParticipantI think the reason no one knows about the Chofetz Chaim having had non-religious descendants is because it’s loshon hora!
Geordie613ParticipantNitra appears on page 5.
Hermanus, W Cape, South Africa
Geordie613ParticipantArtscroll’s expertise!
February 28, 2016 10:50 pm at 10:50 pm in reply to: Biggest news to occur in the frum world since Oreos became kosher #1139469Geordie613ParticipantNow we await the cholov yisroel version…
Geordie613ParticipantYour Maj. You mentioned that two pages ago. Try again with an N.
Geordie613ParticipantI think it’s pretty simple.
If the potato is sliced and fried/baked then it’s hoadomo. If it’s pringle style ground and then reshaped and baked/fried then it’s shehakol.
The same goes for corn flakes.
Kugel is the same. If it has recognisable pieces of potato, it’s hoadomo. If it’s too finely grated, then it’s shehakol.
Geordie613ParticipantBB, that’s alright. You’re not missing much.
York, England. (where incidentally there is a cherem on living there.)
Geordie613ParticipantThe Chofetz Chaim was still alive 85 years ago. I didn’t know any of his children were so not frum that this great/great/grandchild would have almost no Jewish knowledge.
Are you sure these are the facts?
Geordie613ParticipantQueen, aha. Maybe our branch of the family got married younger.
Heidelberg, South Africa. (I know there’s one in Germany but I mean the one in Gauteng on the way to Durban)
Geordie613ParticipantQueen, we may be 42nd cousins, as I am also from Rashi, as I suspect a lot of people are. I am so glad I’m related to royalty.
B1g B0y, I was there last week, didn’t see any of your family there.
Tottenham, London, England.
Geordie613Participantblubluh,
They can theoretically. But they’re always up so late. At my local maariv hub, it seems the later you go there, the more chassidish the minyan is. (A shout out for MH in Manchester)
Geordie613ParticipantThe Geography game 2 has taken on a whole new dimension 🙂
Geordie613ParticipantErfurt, Germany, (where my Oma comes from)
Geordie613Participant(Well done big boy and your majesty for moving on so quickly)
Kwazulu, South Africa
Geordie613ParticipantYeoville, Johannesburg, South Africa.
Geordie613ParticipantDurban, SA
Geordie613ParticipantNigel, Gauteng, South Africa
Geordie613ParticipantTweerivier, Northern Cape, South Africa
Geordie613ParticipantB1g B0y, I’m not denying that Olt exists. But Uncle Ben’s Ozamiz appears earlier. You should have put a place that begins with a Z.
Geordie613ParticipantCan’t change rules in the middle of the game.
Zambia, Africa (From Uncle Ben’s Ozamiz which is a real place)
Geordie613ParticipantLoving it
Geordie613ParticipantOnderstepoort, South Africa
Geordie613ParticipantThanks Uncle, I’m with you. So we go with L
Lesotho (a tiny REAL kingdom in southern Africa)
Geordie613ParticipantAt least flat caps won’t blow around in the wind.
Geordie613ParticipantMods, There has been no diplomatic recognition of Liberland by any country from the United Nations. What is YWNCR’s official position?
I couldn’t care less. -100
Geordie613ParticipantAh!! Heilige Gateshead.
Durban, South Africa
Geordie613ParticipantVereeniging, South Africa
Geordie613ParticipantAfter checking that Zaire is actually a place…
East London, (South Africa)
Geordie613ParticipantKwazulu-Natal, South Africa
Geordie613ParticipantErdington, (Birmingham, England)
Geordie613ParticipantExcuse me Americans. I’m an OOC (Out of countryer).
Is it true that “New York becomes essential for the frum hillbillies are shidduchim, seforim, kashrus, specifically Jewish articles of clothing and numerous other essentials of Jewish life”?
No. Only in the visions of his mind
Really? If someone from Chicago for example needs tefillin, a sheitel, a shidduch or a R’Chaim in stencil, s/he needs to go to the New York area?
Come to Manchester, I’ll (try) find you any one of those very easily.
Geordie613ParticipantZeerust, NW province, South Africa.
Geordie613ParticipantOh, I do apologise. Just found this on Wikipedia.
“North Pole, a suburb of Fairbanks (located to the southeast of Fairbanks), is a small city in the Fairbanks North Star Borough, Alaska, United States. It is part of the Fairbanks, Alaska metropolitan statistical area. As of the 2010 United States Census, the city had a population of 2,117”
The minhag is that you put some more information on a place name. Like, New York, NY or Jerusalem, Israel. So you would have put ‘North Pole, Fairbanks Alaska’.
Geordie613ParticipantQuacky,
Objection: North Pole isn’t the name of a place.
Geordie613ParticipantIn the old days, ladies would see Rebetzin Kanievsky, and she would approach her husband if and when necessary. I believe his daughter Rebetzin Kolodetsky has now taken over this role.
Geordie613ParticipantOudtshoorn, South Africa
(btw, the kehilla in Oudtshoorn, a little town in the middle of a huge semi-desert has a fascinating history. At one time it was called Yerushalayim d’Africa. It was the world centre of the trade in ostrich feathers which was very big in the late 1800s. There was a big litvishe kehilla there with many people who had learned in the great yeshivos of the time. Many seforim were printed there even though geographically they were cut off from the big kehillos of the world. It has now dwindled, but when I last heard about 15 years ago, they still had their own shchita and daily minyonim.)
Geordie613ParticipantEmpangeni, SA
Geordie613ParticipantAmanzimtoti, KZN, South Africa
Geordie613ParticipantYsterplaas, Somewhere in sunny South Africa
Geordie613ParticipantI’m under the impression that Joseph was your surname
Geordie613ParticipantGauteng, South Africa
Geordie613ParticipantI’m actualy enjoying this debate, your majesty
Geordie613ParticipantTembisa, Gauteng, South Africa
Geordie613ParticipantThanks mods for editing my post. It may have been avak loshon hora.
You’re welcome.
