Popa: methinks thou thinketh too much of thyself! 😉
(thounds like i’m lithping)
gefenParticipantPopa- “The reason G-d did that, is because that way men are attracted to health. In our society, being too fat is a bigger health problem than being too skinny, so thin is perceived as healthy.”
And what about those fat guys? Yeah- they’re also looking for size 0. You’re going to tell me that they’re looking for healthy? Please!
gefenParticipantbygirl- LOL. I guess I didn’t realize it was a joke cuz I was half asleep. You can see I was posting around 1:00am.
Hatzlacha to you in finding your bashert! We should see you and my daughter on the Mazal Tov thread really soon!
gefenParticipantbygirl93 – why do you say that i sound like i know you? what did i say to make you think that? if i said something in another thread that i don’t remember right now, please remind me. thanks.
gefenParticipantpopa;- but why all the emphasis on what size she is? to be more precise – why must she be a size zero?
gefenParticipantPopa – What makes you think I wasn’t serious? 😉
And excuse me for saying this, but you are one person I would not ask what a girl should look for. Just explain something; why is it ok for the boys to be shallow and not the girls?
Mommamia- “On a more serious note, attraction, similar hashkafah, emotional maturity (a biggie), and good middos. That, IMHO, should be the wish list.”
I totally agree! I have a daughter who’s new in the parsha now. She is looking for middos, honesty, caring, she wants her home to be built on true Torah values, – his learning should be very important to him, family oriented, etc. You get the picture. (no i’m not attaching her resume/profile here :)). What I’m getting at, is that she knows what’s important.
It really irks me when I hear stories about guys demanding a certain size and of course she must be beautiful. What they’re looking for is a trophy wife. Does Mr. Perfect ever stop to think what he might look like in 20 years? (assuming he’s so gorgeous now. How about what his wife will look like in 20 years? Will he divorce her if she gains a few pounds? Point is looks may not be forever. Good Middos can and should be.
BTW – my daughter is thin and beautiful bli ayin hara, so I want it known that I’m not saying these things because it’s a personal issue.
gefenParticipantMod 42 – and then straight to being a Mod!!!!
Syag: mine haven’t. I really did not enjoy grade school. I was the one they made fun of. I wasn’t cool! Most of the kids did not come from frum homes. So I was “weird” cuz I didn’t do stuff they did. I did have some friends though, and I did survive….I think. Well anyone who makes it to the CR has just gotta be fine! Right?
gefenParticipantInterjection: “The paragraph should not come across as flaunting, but you want the shadchan to be able to tell your personality from what you write. Are you deep? Are you spiritual? Are you fun? Are you serious? What means a lot to you?…etc.”
I see what ur saying, but I also agree with yentingyenta that we are complex individuals, and it’s kind of hard to really describe oneself. Hey – I’ve been married almost 22 years, and I still can’t describe myself 😉 Good thing we didn’t have shidduch resumes way back then.
So anyway – Yentingyenta – do the best you can to write something about yourself (see Interjection’s ideas) and probably write more about what ur looking for. I’m no expert anyway, and also there are so many different ways of writing a resume. So once again, I wish you much Hatzlacha and you should find your bashert soon.
gefenParticipantMidwesterner: AMEN!!!!! Thank you for the Bracha. May we always share in Simchos.
gefenParticipantI don’t know that it’s necessary to have a paragraph about yourself, as ppl can call your references to find that out. Also it may sound a bit haughty (for lack of a better word) to point out all your wonderful points – let others do that for you.
However, I do feel it is necessary to write a paragraph describing what you are looking for. Even those who know you well may not know exactly what you want.
Just wondering – what does your resume look like if you have nothing on it? Just your name, age, parents and sibs names, and schools you went to?
Hatzlacha in your search.
gefenParticipantDitto on yummy’s post! We are so excited for you Rabbi and Mrs. Midwesterner!!!! May they build a bnb.
June 3, 2012 4:57 pm at 4:57 pm in reply to: Are you ????? not to eat fish and meat together? #877704gefenParticipantWolf – I’m with you! (I usually agree with you on most topics- I like your way of thinking).
We don’t eat fish and meat together but we do eat fish and milk/cheese together. So I guess I’m just at horrible as you are. 🙂
gefenParticipantwhat’s going on????? why are posts disappearing from this thread?
MODS?????
gefenParticipantHelloKitty: LOL – I like your acronym for TMJ.
Health – I see what you mean with your exhibit A. But then MorahRach said it did help her. So, I guess each case is different.
Anyway – I really thank all of you for your input. I will keep you posted.
BTW – today B”H hasn’t been too bad – BLI AYIN HORA!!! The only thing is that I don’t even know what helped, if anything, or is it just not a bad day for my “Trouble Making Jaw”.
gefenParticipantAvhaben: That is so funny. When I wrote to you, your post hadn’t shown up yet. I guess great minds think alike. 😉
gefenParticipantI dream a lot about deceased relatives. Particulary 2 aunts, then sometimes the 2 uncles, and my father in law. Less often, surprisingly are my parents. You would think they would be the most often in my dreams.
I, too, wake up kind of upset sometimes, depending on what the dream was. I’ve never asked any Rav about it. Maybe I should.
When you’re dreaming, do you know that they aren’t alive? Or does it seem normal that they’re there? By me, I have both types.
gefenParticipantAvhaben: I don’t know if you’ll read this thread, but just wanted to let you know I wasn’t around at this asifa either.
gefenParticipantbump
gefenParticipantPopa – but idiots can’t read books. Is that why you haven’t read it?
signed,
lunatic
wanderingchana – thanks for your post. I will certainly take into consideration what you said. I would only use his methods to the extent it would help me feel better. I am planning on asking my dentist about this anyway.
gefenParticipantMammele – I haven’t even checked this thread since the last time I posted, which as you can see was 10 months ago. But even if I had, I don’t think I would have realized that your post was meant for me since I mentioned nothing about a Fried family. I just asked if anyone knew her maiden name. HELLOWORLD is the one who mentioned the name Fried and said she’s from bp.
So anyway, I guess I don’t know who Mrs. Ullman is as I do not recall a Fried family.
gefenParticipantMammele: I must apologize. I guess I never saw your post on that other thread. I will go check it out now.
gefenParticipantwriter34- I’m really sorry this thread got carried away. I hope you get some real answers to your question.
gefenParticipantHello Kitty: Oish! Yeah – those headaches can be really bad, and when combined with the jaw pain and earache— HELP! Well Refuah Shelayma to you! I did try the motrin routine, but it didn’t help. I need something stronger – a real muscle relaxant. But first I’m waiting for my book to come – the one that msseeker recommended. I’m really hoping something in there will help me. If it does, I’ll IY”H tell you the secret.
gefenParticipant“Dear Lunatic” – LOL. You really make me laugh.
gefenParticipantThanks everyone! I hope something will work.
gefenParticipantmommamia22: That’s exactly what I do many times, start by heart till I find the page. But in the meantime, it’s distracting and I end up forgeting where I was up to.
takahmamash: “It must be even harder in a bencher that has more than one version of benching!” Yes – I once started bentching and suddenly the words looked really strange. It was the Sfardit version. I don’t mean sfard as opposed to ashkenaz. I mean Sfardit as in totally different than ours.
gefenParticipantAm I the only klutz with this problem? 🙁
gefenParticipantAvhaben: hmmmmm. A compliment together with an insult. What? You thought maybe the insult wouldn’t be noticed?
compliment- “you know way too much” – I take that to mean I am sooo smart. 😉
insult- “was it the 50’s?” Hmph!!!! Thanks a bunch!! But ur WRONG. I guess I’ll just have to keep you in suspense. Oh well!
gefenParticipantMorahRach: I’ve heard about the mouth guards. If the method in the book that msseeker mentioned doesn’t work, then I will have no choice but to go to my dentist and see what he has to say. Thanks for telling me of your experience and I’m glad you’re better now.
Vanilla: Thanks for your suggestion. I’m a bit confused, though, as to exactly what I’m supposed to do. What do I do with the lit candle? And where are the pressure points?
Haifagirl: Thanks. But I’m in Chicago. There are doctors here who specialize in tmj. If it comes to that point (which it really has, I just don’t want to face it), I may have to find out where to go.
Health: Do you know why the dental blocks are not recommended anymore?
gefenParticipantmsseeker – googled it. found it. ordered it. can’t wait to try his method.
gefenParticipantgoq – tmj is a condition involving the jaw. many ppl have it. some worse than others. there are many causes – teeth grinding, stress, poor jaw alignment, etc. Basically you hear and feel a clicking when opening and/or closing your mouth. Can be quite painful. Sometimes it can prevent one from opening or closing their mouth because it kind of gets stuck in a certain position.
elik – i can’t go to the class as i don’t live in ny. but thanks for the advice, and at least i can check on dr. sarno’s method as msseeker mentioned – i can buy the book.
msseeker – thanks for the info. i will google the book and see if i can get it on line.
gefenParticipantAvhaben – “someone from your generation might have some recollection of the event.”
oooh! Them’s are fighting words. So you’re assuming I was around then?! What chutzpah! How do you know I wasn’t born in the 70’s?
Now – try to wiggle ur way out of this one. 😉
gefenParticipantEven with our central air conditioning, our apartment was HOT!!!
Also my TMJ was driving me nuts as I mentioned in another thread that I started.
Otherwise Yom Tov was wonderful B”H.
gefenParticipantDear Bar Abby,
It really bothers me when people say or write “yontiff”. IT’S YOM TOV – BLAZES – CAN’T ANYONE GET THAT RIGHT?
Yes dearest bar abby – you are guilty of that too.(see one of your above posts)
What can I do to get over this? Or rather what can I do to get everyone in the world to say/write it correctly? AHHHHHHH!
No – I am not hysterical. I’m a very calm, cool, and collected person. 😉
gefenParticipantThanks wanderingchana, oomis, and nechomah. I kind of figured I would hear the dreaded words “GO TO A DENTIST”. I guess that’s what I’ll have to do.
BTW- my second post was written before the the 2 before that showed up, so that should explain my question there.
Thanks for the good wishes.
gefenParticipantOwwww! Still in pain! Woke up and couldn’t close my jaw. It also gives me horrible headaches and an earache.
Doesn’t anyone have any advice, sympathy, or can even commiserate with me? sniff sniff 🙁
gefenParticipantWas anyone in the cr even around in 1968? 😉
Wow – that was so long ago!
gefenParticipantok yummy – lemme give you my credit card number. it’s….. oh wait! i forgot! you know where my purse is. 😉
Happy Birthday to my wonderful cupcake!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
gefenParticipantZeeskite – don’t take one person to heart (or even a few). There are always posters here who can be quite nasty.
I for one happen to like you (or what I know of you from the cr). Most of the time we are on the same page… but even when we’re not- who cares? We are all entitled to our opinions. The idea is to be able to express them without being bashed.
Coffee Addict – I agree with you totally. When will we learn????
gefenParticipantsam – is that really what it means? wow. thanks for explaining. i never heard that word before.
gefenParticipantSo….I see no real conversation has begun yet. So do you think anything will be gained from this asifa?
gefenParticipantNever had self esteem and really still don’t.
Tried reading some Twerski books but I just couldn’t get into them. (Yes, I know he’s a brilliant psychologist and author – I’m not saying anything against him or his books – chas v’shalom)
So anyway – somehow you get along in life even without self esteem. Though, of course it is much better to try to work on it. Maybe therapy can help. Hatzlacha.
gefenParticipantwell obviously we aren’t. we are here on the cr. 😉
gefenParticipantIf she has a somewhat common name, or even if it’s not (she could have relatives with same name), just make sure you got the right person. You might say I don’t want this girl based on x or y that I read about her, when it’s totally a different person.
gefenParticipantOneOfMany: when my son went to Israel 2 summers ago, my cousin taught him the game of mao. He then came home and taught it to us. At first it drove us crazy – I mean how do you play a game without knowing the rules? After a while, we were kind of addicted (at least my son and I were. Not so sure about my girls and my husband). It’s a weird but fun game.
Wolf: “No. I’ve been the worst human being in the history of the planet since the day I was born. Since then I have not redeemed myself in any manner at all.” Yeah, right! You’re so funny. I love the way you write! You are one of my favorite posters. You have a lot of common sense and are never mean to anyone.
Goq: backgammon? hmmm. never knew it was a card game. how do you play? 😉
gefenParticipantGOQ; yes – 3 kids bli ayin hara – but i’m not giving them away (only when they get married, but even then, they will still be mine.)
I WIN!!!!! GAME OVER!!! LET’S START ANOTHER.
MSSEEKER; wow, that’s interesting!
gefenParticipantSam2 – good point – it makes sense that tarot cards would be considered tumah.
Goq – thanks for the queens. your turn.
gefenParticipantDidn’t realize I was starting such a fun thread! But you guys sure made me laugh. So…um… i guess you do play cards? So either it’s mutar or we’re all doing something assur! Chas V’Shalom.
The reason I asked is that I work in a school and one of the kindergarten children brought in a deck of cards and two teachers were very surprised that the family would have such a thing. When we asked another teacher about it, she didn’t even know what a deck of cards is! So I don’t know if it’s just this particular group of chassidus that doesn’t allow it, or is it written somewhere that we shouldn’t have them.
We tried to figure out if it’s maybe because there might be a cross on the crown of the king or what? Someone else said they thought that the Arizal said there is tumah in the cards.
So now this thread has two purposes. One – to see if anyone has the answer to my questions. Two – LET’S PLAY CARDS!
Goq- ok do you have any queens?
gefenParticipantshmoel- good point
