I had never seen a woman wash mayim achronim until i got married and saw my mother in law doing it. My father in law A”H held that women should wash. I felt kind of funny doing it, so sometimes I did and sometimes I didn’t. Now my husband and son have both been learning about it and insist my daughters and I wash.

“If I have any regrets about my teen years, or any years, I wish I could relive them with the brains, knowledge, cofidence and understanding of adulthood.”

That’s totally the way I feel. I would have done certain things differently. But hindsight is always 20/20, isn’t it?

Anyway – every stage in life has its ups and downs. We have to focus on the “ups” which can be amazing and then deal with the “downs” and know that Hashem is in charge and knows what’s best for us.

as far as the theory that many members of the same family are using that name, then they should identify themselves in their post. Ex: this is chayav’s sister or brother or bubby etc.

in reply to: What gender is Chayav?? #743139

i think chayav either needs attention or just thinks s/he is being cute. whatever it is – if we keep playing into this, it will just continue. i don’t find it as annoying as some others do. what i do find annoying is that everyone keeps talking about it. if it bothers u, just ignore him/her.

the one thing, though, that i do think was wrong – was the post about the bjj seminary letter. that could really have worried a lot of girls.

candy613 – you say that you, your mother and brother all have different screen names from the same computer. But are you all using the same email address? My daughter and i also have different screen names from the same computer but different emails. I think commonsense is right about ywn not allowing different screen names on the same email address.

Just use the golden rule. It’s ok to express ur opinion but in a nice way. Too many ppl here start putting others down and get really nasty.

come on everyone – let’s make the coffee room a nice place to visit. mostly it is, but many times, things get way out of hand. agree?

Canine – some only children are spoiled. I’ve known of some. But I can honestly say – without sounding like I’m bragging that I really don’t think I was spoiled. I was certainly loved a lot – but not spoiled. In fact I remember my mother telling me that at teachers conferences, some teachers were actually surprised when they found out that I’m an only child. I guess that shows good parenting.

I don’t think my husband is spoiled either. For two only children to get along well in a marriage shows that we do know how to share and compromise. Baruch Hashem.

btw – we have 3 wonderful teenagers. no signs of older, middle, youngest syndromes. i think they’re pretty well adjusted and certaily loved very much.

I am an only child and so is my husband. This means our kids have no aunts, uncles, or first cousins. But they do have a large extended family – great aunts and uncles, second, third, etc. cousins, with whom we are very close. So they are not missing out.

Well, one of my daughters was born in Adar – not a leap year. When a leap year comes around (as this year), technically her birthday is Adar Sheini. However, she prefers to celebrate 3 birthdays this year: her english birthday, a birthday “koton” in Adar Aleph and then her real birthday in Adar Sheini. Can’t argue with her logic. Why not celebrate as much as you can? 🙂

Anything written on this pen? Look closely – maybe it says “eit shel Eliyahu HaNavi”.

I don’t know, but I’d sure like to hear what this is all about.

Any significance to the letters ayin, tes – or ayin, pay, raish, vov, nun – the letters of pen and pencil in Hebrew?

It’s also interesting how many ppl wrote fresh cut grass. One of my kids hates that smell, but i love it.

Ok Rezdy: I happen to know someone who DAVKA walks in unexpectedly when someone is babysitting. She wants to make sure the babysitter is taking care of her child/ren properly and behaving as a bas yisroel should!!! SHE HAS EVERY RIGHT TO DO SO!!! If it bothers you when they walk in early, does this mean you have something to hide? I hope not.

As far as calling if they’re going to be late, that I agree. They should also leave a number where you can reach them if necessary. I also agree that there should be some snack and drink available.

There has to be mutual respect and admiration. There are rules for both sides.

While I think the coffee room is a great place to express opinions, I do find that some ppl can be quite rude (to put it mildly). Just because we are anonymous here does not give one the right to be mean or outright cruel. Where’s the ahavas Yisroel? We all talk about the terrible situation the world is in – wars, natural disasters, accidents, illness etc. We keep saying it’s time for Moshiach. Well, everyone, we must first work on ourselves!!! Come on – let’s show what Am Yisroel is supposed to be like.

Hey Candy’s Mom – I used to “borrow” my daughter’s screen name too, until I got my own. I can totally relate to having teenage daughters who multitask! (actually our daughters are in the same class but we won’t start that conversation here. others don’t like when this is turned into a chat room between just a few ppl. even though i see it happening often enough)

Refuah Shelama to Eclipse. Let’s not judge why ppl get sick. Let’s just all be careful with our words and deeds.

Apushatayid – I think you have something there. Maybe we should have separate train cars for men and women. After all, when the train jolts and moves, you can chas v’shalom bump into someone of the opposite gender! They have separate buses in Israel. In NY there’s a mechitza on the Monsey bus. 🙂

Oh – but I divert from the main topic here. Everyone else is discussing the Subway RESTAURANT. Actually I was at the one here in Chicago once or twice. I personally wasn’t excited by it. I also agree that it’s acting too much like the goyim. Why is it necessary to davka use the name Subway?

1dayatatime – you sound like you have a good head on your shoulders. you know what’s important and what is nonsense. I just have one question. When you say that “family is not very important” – do you mean that the yichus isn’t important, or that if the family is not perfect it’s ok — or do you mean that family is not important to you and you are not family oriented? just want to clarify what you meant.
