i heard mrs. ullman is originally from williamsburgh brooklyn. does anyone know her maiden name? she spoke at my daughter’s school this year and i’m just wondering if i might know who she is – as i went to school in williamsburgh. anyway, my daughter said it sounded like an amazing seminary!

yea popa – i’m surprised at you (after that grad thread and all 😉 )

anyway – my husband proposed to me here in the cr after almost 21 yrs of marriage (i believe it was on the “how to treat your husband” thread)- that’s right – i never got an official proposal b4 we got married! he just took me to 47th st manhattan and asked what setting i like – so i figured that meant we were getting engaged. how romantic!

any of you see the macabeats proposal video? look it up. sorta cute. true proposal.

also i heard a story of a guy whose last name is feiner. one day he called up the girl he was dating and asked how she is. she said “fine” then he said “how’d you like to be FINER?” but you can only do that if your last name is feiner and if she answers fine. 🙂

how about diff sn’s who use the same computer? hint hint – like maybe me and some others in my fam? i know that some of you know who else is in my fam.

mother in israel – that’s cute. actually i know some ppl who have 3 and 4 names! i always picture a parent who is upset with that child and calling them by their full name – the kid could be 5 counties away by the time the parent finishes saying the name.

also a guy getting called up for an aliyah – what a mouthful!

yossi z and coffee — OOPS! i made a mistake. i’m the one who posted the second post from yummy. i didn’t realize our computer was still signed on as her screen name. i realized it after it was too late to edit it.

anyway – i do know that she was not at her bf’s wedding cuz the wedding was in ny and yummy stayed home to go to her sister’s h.s. grad tonight. isn’t that a great sis? btw – smile e face was at the same grad.

Now I’m afraid to daven. my ches and chof sound alike, as do my ayin and aleph. and i’m sure i make many other mistakes. if every time i make a mistake, a deformed malach is created to testify against me, am i not better off not davening at all?

i think if one davens with the proper kavanah and tries his/her best to pronounce the words correctly, Hashem listens and understands. remember the story of the boy who only knew the aleph bais – but not how to read? he said the aleph bais with such kavanah – that was his way of davening – and the malachim took the letters and formed them into the right words for tefilah.

cherrybim- wow – thanks for all that info. really really interesting! as far as where our relatives went to school, i don’t know. next time i speak with them i can ask. (we only speak maybe once or twice a year) when we lived in ny, we would see them more often cuz most of the fam lived there and they used to come in to visit everyone. now we’re more spread apart and the older generation is unfortunately dying out so…… that’s how it goes. they did come to the midwest for our son’s bar mitzvah a few yrs ago. they’re very family oriented – like most southerners prob – and make every effort to go to simchas.

    have a good Yom Tov!

in reply to: How much davening do you say from the siddur, how much by heart? #774953

I also always learned that you should daven from the siddur. yes you can close your eyes for a few moments if it makes your kavana better (i know it does for me), but for the most part the davening should be read from the siddur. it’s really interesting because even tho i’ve been davening for oh so many years, every now and then i realize i’ve been saying some words incorrectly! so i see why it’s so important to look inside and really concentrate on what ur reading.

zeeskite – to a 9 yr old like you – i would be from the dinosaur age :). i remember when i was in school, anyone over 18 was ancient!!! ok so i’ll admit i’m not 10 yrs old – i lied – please me mochel me in your tefilos on yom kippur.

123bubby – bli ayin hara- so i can’t give you the bracha of “ad meah v’esrim” since you surpassed that already. so let’s see – how about “ad masayim” 🙂

adorable – btw- so many times ppl write things that get misinterpreted/misunderstood – whatever. and then it starts a whole thing going. either it was meant as a joke and ppl took it seriously or vise versa, etc. etc. or ppl think u were talking to one person when u were really talking to another……

i’ve had it happen to me. it’s so weird cuz then u havta go and explain urself, then not everybody reads it or understands the explanation. BOY THIS REALLY GETS COMPLICATED.

but ya gotta admit, it is fun being here. right? 🙂

I am so funcused by the last few posts!

But anyway, back to the topic at hand, if any of my kids were 9, i would not allow them to roam freely on the internet – not even on ywn. my youngest is 16 and they know how i feel about the internet in general – B”H they feel the same way. only appropriate websites are visited by our family.

but it is a good point that if whatever goes up on the cr is appropriate for teens and adults, it should be ok for younger ones too. after all, this is a frum website. there should be no allowances for anything inappropriate here.

then again, i feel like always, i wouldn’t want to be talking to a 9 yr. old here. however i do understand that there’s no way to control that.

BTW – WHAT IN THE WORLD IS “TROLLING”? i’m sure after being on the cr for this long, i should know that by now and this prob sounds like a dumb question.

Mods: hint hint – (yes i know ur all very busy and can’t answer everyone)

k – so how ’bout mixed graduations if not mixed audience for divrei Torah? jk – not going there again.

instead i think i’ll go pick up a Ben Yehoyada – again jk

MichalC – “Torah is Torah” we get ur point, point, point 🙂
