August 21, 2011 2:31 pm at 2:31 pm in reply to: They are taking ages to get back to us… I'm really nervous caus its my first o #801013gefenParticipantbtw – as far as girls not having as much to worry about – i guess you really don’t know much about girls. they have more to worry about – what to wear, how does my hair/make-up/everything else look? am i skinny/pretty/etc enough? girls worry because there are so many more girls out there than boys and also boys can be quite picky with looks. yes it is petty but that’s the reality.
as far as what you should wear – how about go all out and wear black pants and a white shirt? oh yeah – the black hat too.
August 21, 2011 1:30 pm at 1:30 pm in reply to: They are taking ages to get back to us… I'm really nervous caus its my first o #801012gefenParticipantMod42 – “Interestingly, for “Location” you wrote “USA”
If he is Chabad, then he could be from the USA but on shlichus somewhere else for a year or two.
MPC- it’s normal to be nervous – for both girls and boys. don’t think the girls have less to be nervous about. as far as how you should dress – make sure you look neat, clean, and presentable. be polite. it’s sometimes hard to make conversation and yes those silent moments can feel awkward. but remember two things 1) she’s also feeling pressured to say something 2) almost everyone (if not everyone) goes through that experience.
try to prepare some topics to speak about before the date. keep them in mind for such moments. but anyway on a first date you’re usually trying to find out about each other so there are lots of questions and topics – what you do, how many siblings, what schools, what do you like to do etc etc.
Hatzlacha Rabba – keep us posted
gefenParticipantwent to camp bais yaakov in ferndale for a few years. there was a pizza shop just up the road – don’t remember the name. but it was a tiny place – but it was our big treat after a long walk.
i’ve also been to the homowack.
i remember mom’s knishes.
ah – memories!

Hey – good way to make shidduchim. Now we solved 2 problems! 🙂

popa – i actually agree with you! 🙂
itchesrulik – very good LOL
apushutayid – totally
So this means that in all preschools, from now on there can’t be any Shabbos mommy and totty in a class that’s only girls or boys.
gefenParticipantHi – I’m here and B”H fine. I had 2 tests and procedures this morning. Thanks to all of you for your tefilos! I really appreciate it!
Thank you my sweet Yummy Cupcake for starting this thread!
Goq – yes I am a poster. In fact i’ve commented on some of your posts in the past. btw – i’m not a “them”, i’m a “her” 🙂
gefenParticipantI missed it too. Refuah Shelaima.

I just hope you don’t sting 😉
gefenParticipantHey! – I started this post first! 🙂
See the thread titled “stock market- message from Hashem? 2nd try”
KIsh Echad BLev Echad – you stole my spotlight 😉
gefenParticipantkapusta – the idea of an inspiring song is interesting. maybe i’ll get her some cd’s as i think hearing them with the music can be more powerful than just reading the words.
gefenParticipantWIY – thank you for your post. she does not read Hebrew but I still think the English translation of the particular perakim mentioned can be very helpful for her. i will also tell her what you said regarding Hisbodedus and taking on a mitzvah. unfortunately we don’t live near each other (quite a few states apart) but i can do my best over the phone.
gefenParticipantSo are you really in Canada?
gefenParticipantChicago?

gefenParticipantbtw – this was my first post:
I got this in an email. Interesting, no?
Subject: is G-D telling us something?
For each day the Stock Market closed this week, the total of the digits of the change on the dow jones is the number 26 .
Monday close – 634.76 = 26
Tuesday close + 429.92 = 26
Wednesday close – 519.83= 26
An actuary in shul said the odds of this are millions to one
For those not familiar, the number 26 is the sum of the name of hashem – yud=10, hay =5, vav = 6 hay = 5 grand total 26
POSTED 1 DAY AGO #
gefenParticipantThank you everyone for your help. I just looked up Pey Vav and it really does have special meaning.
I hope all of this will help my cousin.
gefenParticipantHaLeivi- Refuah shelaima! Just curious what are your symptoms?
gefenParticipantamen!!!!!!!!! and the same brachos (those that apply, of course) right back at ya!
August 1, 2011 6:32 am at 6:32 am in reply to: Funny Shidduch Questions Asked About a Boy/Girl/Family #914085gefenParticipantmustangrider – i heard a story just like that a few years ago. the mother of the girl was asked by the shadchan “when she wears the seatbelt, does she use the shoulder strap or just the lap belt?” when she asked why, the shadchan said bec. the shoulder strap is not tznius.
SO…”moral of the story” — it’s better to be killed as long as one is tznius! (yes – sarcasm intended)
also shouldn’t the guy have his eyes on the road while driving – NOT LOOKING AT THE GIRL ON HIS RIGHT!
bortezomib – “Excuse me, you must have the wrong number. I am a Rabbi, not a modeling agency.” I just love that line! he sounds like one great Rov – way to go!
gefenParticipantThanks everyone for your answers. I think I sort of had the right idea about it but wasn’t so sure.
gefenParticipantChassitvish
gefenParticipantMods – any reason you didn’t let my post go through? i tried twice.
1. It had a link and an email address. 2. It was very long. -95
gefenParticipantI agree – no splitting up necessary. If we can all share and listen to each others views and opinions without any major arguments, it can make for a very interesting conversation.
Our goal should be Achdus and Ahavas Yisroel – NOT splitting us up.
gefenParticipantLast year when my daughter was in seminary, one Shabbos, she and another girl were staying at the same family. Friday night, after they had gone to bed, she saw some light shining from the other girl’s bed and realized she was texting. When my daughter told me about this, I asked if she was sure about that. Then I just figured, this girl’s not really that frum.
Now I see this thread (and it was also mentioned on another thread recently). I am totally shocked. I did not know it was so common! I do realize there are a lot of OTD teens but this sounds like we are not specifically speaking about them but about “frum” kids who see nothing wrong with texting!
I don’t know the solution, but I really hope there is some way that someone can get through to them.
Happiest – I admire you for many reasons. You are dealing with a lot in your life, and I believe you are coming through with flying colors. Stay strong! To admit that you used to text on Shabbos, takes a lot of courage. I am glad you don’t do in anymore. You’re showing your inner strength by overcoming that desire to text and also by dealing with everything else. I wish you all the best!!!
July 29, 2011 12:32 pm at 12:32 pm in reply to: There should be a "topics i have commented on" button #791911gefenParticipantQuark2- if you go to the top of the screen where it says “welcome quark2” and click on your screen name, it will bring up your profile and you will see all the topics you ever commented on, as well as any threads you have started.
gefenParticipantchas v’shalom – us fightening? – never

gefenParticipantRabbaim – sometimes we need to just chill. especially in light of all the recent events. i think we’d go nuts if we didn’t. like bpt said “Not to worry though,Av / Elul / selicos / Rosh H/ YK is almost here, so you’ll have all the “tachlis” you want (and so desparately crave)”
also – no one is forcing you to be on this thread. this is for those of us who want to have fun.
so…. how about the phrase “at the end of the day”?
gefenParticipanthow about “whatever”? some ppl use it 10 times in each sentence!
