Reb Yosef normally trolls us using semi-logical and coherent, albeit outrageous assertions, In this case he sadly fails to offer us his usual comic relief since he adopts a Trumpkopf talking point of “impeaching” members of Congress (who obviously are not subject to Article I, Section 2, Clause 5 impeachment proceedings but only to an expulsion vote by their peers). Impeachment is NOT a criminal proceeding but reflects the judgement of member of the House and Senate that a sitting President has engaged in “high crimes” where that can be whatever they decide it mean, including the Trumpkopfs vulgarity, consistent disparagement of his political opponents, promoting his own properties etc, much less decisions leading to bloodshed in Syria, Further,” treason” is a defined legal term that does not remotely include subjective judgements by other politiicans about the fitness of the Trumpkopf to occupy the oval office.

If you are over 65 (or know someone who is) and find the special 65+ flu vaccine for seniors available, get the shot NOW. They are in very short supply and some locations will not have new shipments of the 65+ injections. The production is limited bvecause it costs more to produce with narrower margns.

I’ve seen this trend too, although not too frequently. Its really a spillover from the routine goyishe minhag of having the “groomsmen’ and “bridesmaids” in the wedding party wear matching suits and dresses with colors not to distract from the bride/groom. For most frum/heimeshe weddings the choson will be wearing a dark suit anyway so a dark grey/navy/black suit would be indistinguishable. Requiring an exactly matching black suit to the choson’s suit is not the yiddeshe way.

There is a fairly wide range of opinion within Israeli intelligence and military ranks as to exactly how much “support” will be forthcoming under different strategic scenarios. The biggest concern is in the intelligence area where the U.S. has historically not always “shared” real-time intelligence even while providing military hardware. The concern here is Trump’s incredible self-focus and absence of rational analysis and how that would play out in a scenario where providing support might not be popular at the moment. Watching how quickly he distanced himself from his own words on the Kurds and always seems to “blame” someone else for adverse outcomes, having a brass plate on a building in Yerushalayim will be of little help. Some here may recall how close EY came to open conflict with U.S./U.K forces during the 1956 Suez campaign. While we are nowhere in that situation, even with Trump, his “love of Israel” should be taken like just about any other Trumpism….don’t take it to the bank.

Ben-Eprhaim: For those with a LONG memory, Rav Altusky, Z’L was also the rav at the Congregation Mishkenoth Yisroel Shul (aka Hachnasas Shearith Yisroel Shul) on Intervale Ave in the East Bronx, which if I recall, was the only shul in that neighborhood that had a mikvah. And yes, I realize is off-topic so apologies the the CR enforcers. Back then, there were a lot of smaller “niche” hashgachos with creds tied to the rav hamachshir, which for Rav Altusky were the highest.

“Triangle K is on Hebrew National”
I’m sure that most YWN readers don’t hold by Triangle K or any of several other large commercial hashgachos but in reality, at least from my perspective, its better that hundreds of thousands of yidden feel they are “doing good” by purchasing Hebrew National versus treifus “all beef” hot dogs. Hopefully, they will eventually come to realize that there are gradations of kashrus but we should avoid implying that R’ Ralbag is deliberately choteh u’machti harabim with his hashgahca.

If a seller is deliberately posting fake reviews on a yid’s website to destroy the parnassah of a legitimate seller, yid or goy, WHY is that ganof entitled to special consideration?? If you observed someone robbing your “brick and mortar” store, you would call the police immediately and not consult your rebbe to determine if the ganof perhaps has milah. Why should a virtual store be different??

My understanding (subject to your updating) was that the Triangle K hashgacha under R’ Yosef and R’ Aryeh Ralbag offered a hechsher for BOTH glatt and non-glatt products and that some yidden would only want products from a hashgacha that was exclusively glatt? If I have that wrong, please clarify.

Yes, there were several tragedies this past summer but from a longer term perspective, not at all unusual or statistically out of the norm in terms of those who were niftar under tragic circumstances. We have had summers with greater numbers of auto accident casualties, civilians killed in terrorist accidents in EY and elsewhere etc.

May we ALL be zocheh for a g’mar tov and may hashem bring solace to the familes and friends of those were were niftar over the summer.

bk613…….In most cases, one amazon seller would not know if the other seller posting fraudulent reviews is a yid or a goy. Assuming, arguendo, he has a suspicions, he should warn the other seller of his intention to file a complaint with Amazon unless it stops immediately. If it continues, than I’m not sure why he/she would need to involve a Rav. Amazon is not the police and an offender will not be thrown into jail. The worse case scenario is that he/she (and affiliated posters) will lose their ability to post fraudulent ads.

    Gadolhadorah

I’m not sure what kind of scam you are talking about since the post is a bit confusing. So some ostensibly ehrlicher yidden first posted phony reviews on your shviger’s competitor’s amazon website telling the world that the treifus snacks he sold were delicious and then moved on to your shviger’s own website complaining that his chazerfleish didn’t taste nearly as good??? First, while its not assur for a frum yid to sell treifus to goyim, how does he know that some of his customers aren’t yidden who don’t know better. In simple terms, I have my own issues with a frum yid selling treifus online where he doesn’t know his customers. Separately, such phony reviews are a violation of Amazon’s terms of service and if your Shivger’s competitor is found to be complicit, he/she can be thrown off the website permanently.

At the same time, police should be trained to deal with these situations and “de-escalate” the situation. Here, we don’t know for certain the level of resistance to the police and whether there might have been alternative ways to deal with this woman.

Sam Klein……I think there is a goyishe sect call Christian Science where adherents forego medical treatment and trust in their notion of “hashem” to prevent and cure all ailments. Yidden DO rely on middlemen (aka doctors, medical researchers and public health workers) who advise on the proper diagnostics and treatment for our well being. Gadolei yisroel themselves routinely seek out the best medical treatment for themselves and their families and advise their followers to do the same. Do we supplement medical advice with tefillah, tzadakah and ma’asim tovim….of course we do. But deliberately ignoring a medical issue or not taking prudent steps to minimize the likelihood of incurring medical problems by regular exercise, proper diet contradicts daas torah (u’shamartem es nafshosechem etc.) and the clear guidance of gadolei yisroel.

The issue is not that we are shaming or bullying them for THEIR behavior…that is 100 percent their business. Its only when THEIR dangerous habits affect the health and well-being of US and OUR children that we have both the right and obligation to affirmatively seek to redirect their behavior so it doesn’t affect us. Think about a scenario where you are sitting on an airplane and the guy sitting next to your kids insists on watching (legal) pritzus on his laptop that is easily visible to your kids. Wouldn’t you first ask him to put it away, and if not then elevate the issue to the flight attendants and publicly pressure him to discontinue his legal but otherwise harmful behavior. Call it bullying or shaming if you want but in that situation, I have no problem.

While not the posek hadorah, I would venture to say that it is assur to publicly shame/bully/harass an individual who engages in smoking or vaping in private in a manner that does NOT expose third-parties to second hand smoke or could be seen by children. Such individuals may sadly be addicted or are using a vaping device to move away from their addiction. However, when such individuals insist on engaging in their activities in a manner that exposes others to second-hand smoke or might arouse the interest of children, than we should firmly “discourage” their behavior in a non-violent and lawful way, if they persist after being asked to stop.

Most employers, including many of the larger Jewish mosdos, are offering free vaccinations, along with the many of the drugstores and markets with pharmacies (if you have any insurance). Its a no brainer except for the no-brainer anti-vaxers. While the effectiveness varies from year to year, there are virtually no side-effects (except for a sore arm for a few hours) and even a 30-40 success rate is better than nothing.
