October 15, 2019 11:22 pm at 11:22 pm in reply to: Investigate Congressmen and Bidens with FBI & Special Counsel #1792945GadolhadorahParticipant
Reb Yosef normally trolls us using semi-logical and coherent, albeit outrageous assertions, In this case he sadly fails to offer us his usual comic relief since he adopts a Trumpkopf talking point of “impeaching” members of Congress (who obviously are not subject to Article I, Section 2, Clause 5 impeachment proceedings but only to an expulsion vote by their peers). Impeachment is NOT a criminal proceeding but reflects the judgement of member of the House and Senate that a sitting President has engaged in “high crimes” where that can be whatever they decide it mean, including the Trumpkopfs vulgarity, consistent disparagement of his political opponents, promoting his own properties etc, much less decisions leading to bloodshed in Syria, Further,” treason” is a defined legal term that does not remotely include subjective judgements by other politiicans about the fitness of the Trumpkopf to occupy the oval office.
GadolhadorahParticipantIf you are over 65 (or know someone who is) and find the special 65+ flu vaccine for seniors available, get the shot NOW. They are in very short supply and some locations will not have new shipments of the 65+ injections. The production is limited bvecause it costs more to produce with narrower margns.
GadolhadorahParticipantGoogle didn’t know the Russians had gamed their search algorithm to change rankings and misdirect search results. That doesn’t mean it didn’t happen (unless you live in Trumpvelt).
October 11, 2019 12:50 pm at 12:50 pm in reply to: Black suits for brothers of chasson and kallah? #1792585GadolhadorahParticipantMamelleah: False alarm…..it turned out to be a NYC fireman dressed in a white hazmat suit running towards the fire this morning at the lubavitch headquarters at 770 Eastern Parkway. See breaking news story in the main YWN news links.
October 11, 2019 10:17 am at 10:17 am in reply to: Black suits for brothers of chasson and kallah? #1792550GadolhadorahParticipantMammelle……He was just sighted on Eastern Parkway between Brooklyn and New York Avenues.
October 10, 2019 11:41 pm at 11:41 pm in reply to: Black suits for brothers of chasson and kallah? #1792298GadolhadorahParticipantI’ve seen this trend too, although not too frequently. Its really a spillover from the routine goyishe minhag of having the “groomsmen’ and “bridesmaids” in the wedding party wear matching suits and dresses with colors not to distract from the bride/groom. For most frum/heimeshe weddings the choson will be wearing a dark suit anyway so a dark grey/navy/black suit would be indistinguishable. Requiring an exactly matching black suit to the choson’s suit is not the yiddeshe way.
October 10, 2019 11:33 pm at 11:33 pm in reply to: Can EY rely on U.S. committments of support if there was an Arab attack? #1792161GadolhadorahParticipantThere is a fairly wide range of opinion within Israeli intelligence and military ranks as to exactly how much “support” will be forthcoming under different strategic scenarios. The biggest concern is in the intelligence area where the U.S. has historically not always “shared” real-time intelligence even while providing military hardware. The concern here is Trump’s incredible self-focus and absence of rational analysis and how that would play out in a scenario where providing support might not be popular at the moment. Watching how quickly he distanced himself from his own words on the Kurds and always seems to “blame” someone else for adverse outcomes, having a brass plate on a building in Yerushalayim will be of little help. Some here may recall how close EY came to open conflict with U.S./U.K forces during the 1956 Suez campaign. While we are nowhere in that situation, even with Trump, his “love of Israel” should be taken like just about any other Trumpism….don’t take it to the bank.
GadolhadorahParticipantBen-Eprhaim: For those with a LONG memory, Rav Altusky, Z’L was also the rav at the Congregation Mishkenoth Yisroel Shul (aka Hachnasas Shearith Yisroel Shul) on Intervale Ave in the East Bronx, which if I recall, was the only shul in that neighborhood that had a mikvah. And yes, I realize is off-topic so apologies the the CR enforcers. Back then, there were a lot of smaller “niche” hashgachos with creds tied to the rav hamachshir, which for Rav Altusky were the highest.
GadolhadorahParticipant“Triangle K is on Hebrew National”
I’m sure that most YWN readers don’t hold by Triangle K or any of several other large commercial hashgachos but in reality, at least from my perspective, its better that hundreds of thousands of yidden feel they are “doing good” by purchasing Hebrew National versus treifus “all beef” hot dogs. Hopefully, they will eventually come to realize that there are gradations of kashrus but we should avoid implying that R’ Ralbag is deliberately choteh u’machti harabim with his hashgahca.October 7, 2019 6:43 pm at 6:43 pm in reply to: Don’t harm a fellow Yid selling on Amazon, even if it helps you sell more. #1791858GadolhadorahParticipantIf a seller is deliberately posting fake reviews on a yid’s website to destroy the parnassah of a legitimate seller, yid or goy, WHY is that ganof entitled to special consideration?? If you observed someone robbing your “brick and mortar” store, you would call the police immediately and not consult your rebbe to determine if the ganof perhaps has milah. Why should a virtual store be different??
GadolhadorahParticipantT2T…..not just flanken but also schmatlz herring, kishka and broccoli. If you are going to invent rumors, focus on something more credible like the Trump’s secret deal to build a world class casino with top of the line chadissehse hashgacha and special spa with Mikvah in Uman.
GadolhadorahParticipantMy understanding (subject to your updating) was that the Triangle K hashgacha under R’ Yosef and R’ Aryeh Ralbag offered a hechsher for BOTH glatt and non-glatt products and that some yidden would only want products from a hashgacha that was exclusively glatt? If I have that wrong, please clarify.
October 7, 2019 12:19 pm at 12:19 pm in reply to: ומי במים – Anyone else think about the summer? #1791755GadolhadorahParticipantYes, there were several tragedies this past summer but from a longer term perspective, not at all unusual or statistically out of the norm in terms of those who were niftar under tragic circumstances. We have had summers with greater numbers of auto accident casualties, civilians killed in terrorist accidents in EY and elsewhere etc.
May we ALL be zocheh for a g’mar tov and may hashem bring solace to the familes and friends of those were were niftar over the summer.
October 6, 2019 10:44 pm at 10:44 pm in reply to: Don’t harm a fellow Yid selling on Amazon, even if it helps you sell more. #1791669GadolhadorahParticipantbk613…….In most cases, one amazon seller would not know if the other seller posting fraudulent reviews is a yid or a goy. Assuming, arguendo, he has a suspicions, he should warn the other seller of his intention to file a complaint with Amazon unless it stops immediately. If it continues, than I’m not sure why he/she would need to involve a Rav. Amazon is not the police and an offender will not be thrown into jail. The worse case scenario is that he/she (and affiliated posters) will lose their ability to post fraudulent ads.
GadolhadorahParticipantHas anyone experienced the reaction when it was proposed to install a mechitzah for the small room outside the beis medrash used for the Kiddush club? It got real ugly very quickly
October 6, 2019 8:26 pm at 8:26 pm in reply to: Don’t harm a fellow Yid selling on Amazon, even if it helps you sell more. #1791588GadolhadorahParticipantI’m not sure what kind of scam you are talking about since the post is a bit confusing. So some ostensibly ehrlicher yidden first posted phony reviews on your shviger’s competitor’s amazon website telling the world that the treifus snacks he sold were delicious and then moved on to your shviger’s own website complaining that his chazerfleish didn’t taste nearly as good??? First, while its not assur for a frum yid to sell treifus to goyim, how does he know that some of his customers aren’t yidden who don’t know better. In simple terms, I have my own issues with a frum yid selling treifus online where he doesn’t know his customers. Separately, such phony reviews are a violation of Amazon’s terms of service and if your Shivger’s competitor is found to be complicit, he/she can be thrown off the website permanently.
October 4, 2019 2:13 pm at 2:13 pm in reply to: Why doesn’t the coffee room accurately reflect last update #1791254GadolhadorahParticipantSince for many threads, any correlation between the OP and the responses is purely coincidental, the lag in updating shouldn’t be a problem. The new software, once the bugs are worked out, will randomly assign responses to topics, but do so on a real time basis.
GadolhadorahParticipantTime for Truth: Not sure if you are serious but for most young women, even from more traditional families, if her Choson’s family invited her to a shvitzbath to “check her out”, she should invite them ALL to go toivel in Lake Erie in mid-January.
ADocs: Definitely a lower cost option than most Simcha halls in BP and Willy plus in some cases, would save the choson a separate trip to Mikvah. Yichud in the sauna followed by a cold dip outside by the fire hydrant. Where do you guys come up with these brilliant ideas??GadolhadorahParticipantCA: Maybe everyone should get a stent according to you as preventative measures according to you ??
Maybe…..I have a great idea of a great candidate for such preventive therapy…a particular obese individual who is likely to be subject to considerable stress over the next few months……
GadolhadorahParticipantGrey Matter…..you are probably correct but my frame of reference doesn’t go back that far. Were there really moshichists running around during the time of the beis hamikdash??
GadolhadorahParticipant“whoever says he/she knows when Moshiach is coming,is either a fool and a shoite or a charlatan or both”….
Well, you paint with a broad brush. Perhaps the guys who show up once or twice a month running up and down Eastern Parkway waving yellow flags BUT there have bee some fairly chashuvah rabbonim (and a least one chashuvah rebbitzen) making these types of predictions over the past several hundred years but I wouldn’t call them “fools” or “shotehs’.
GadolhadorahParticipantFB: Another reason for installing “unisex” bathrooms with only stalls? On a serious note, it would be a big cost to convert existing facilities, even if there is arguably a tzinius issue for a small percentage of the tzibur. Its perhaps feasible for a small shtiebal but think about the additional space required for a shull with several hundred daveners.
GadolhadorahParticipantLakeshut….yup, all 20+ of the Dem candidates are reshaim gamurim as compared to the groise tzadik (or should we settle for gross tzadik) tweeting away in the WH.
CA: Fake news…..one has stents inserted so that you DON”T suffer a heart attack.
October 3, 2019 1:25 am at 1:25 am in reply to: Why doesn’t the coffee room accurately reflect last update #1790816GadolhadorahParticipantTo Mod 29: Shanah tovah. Sorry, my posting was meant to be a dry humor response to LB’s “its happening again”…..Nothing was posted so nothing was deleted…..
October 1, 2019 11:20 pm at 11:20 pm in reply to: Why doesn’t the coffee room accurately reflect last update #1790446GadolhadorahParticipant“It’s happening again….
Whats happening again??? My posts are being deleted with the same regularity as before the yom tovimGadolhadorahParticipantPer the above comments, if you are willing to pay the extra cost, you could probably arrange for exclusive rights to use a small mikvah during off-hours.
GadolhadorahParticipantBoth sides were “wrong”. The woman should have responded to a lawful directive from the police and not resisted. At the same time, police should be trained to deal with these situations and “de-escalate” the situation. Here, we don’t know for certain the level of resistance to the police and whether there might have been alternative ways to deal with this woman.
September 25, 2019 1:15 pm at 1:15 pm in reply to: Why doesn’t the coffee room accurately reflect last update #1789608GadolhadorahParticipantIn a few years, there will be no need for “Mods” since advances in artificial intelligence will allow for “real-time” moderation. I’m certain the Mods are looking forward to a well-deserved retirement, knowing that their computerized replacements will have been programmed entirely based on several years of their responses to KlugerYid, Reb Yosef and the rest of the gang.
September 24, 2019 4:26 pm at 4:26 pm in reply to: Why do people comment without actually reading the o p? #1789233GadolhadorahParticipantIn many cases, the OP is not especially thought-provoking or provocative. Thus, it makes sense to respond to your own version of what the original poster should have said or in some cases, offer a totally irrelevant comment about the shidduch crisis, talking during davening, veggie chulent or some arcane chiddush to a thread about some meforshim intelligible to about 1 percent of CR readership.
GadolhadorahParticipantMany of us have found really great quality products (including kids’ clothing) at very reasonable prices at CostCo. Not for everyone but at a time of online shopping, I still like to “feel” certain items before purchasing. Avoid the temptation to pruchase 2 years worth of toilet paper (because its such a “great buy” and only sold in pallets of 640 rolls).
GadolhadorahParticipantKY: Approximately 6.37 hours per minute during shabbosim when we don’t say mashiv ha’ruach. Otherwise, deduct one hour depending on your time zone. ‘
‘
GadolhadorahParticipantSam Klein……I think there is a goyishe sect call Christian Science where adherents forego medical treatment and trust in their notion of “hashem” to prevent and cure all ailments. Yidden DO rely on middlemen (aka doctors, medical researchers and public health workers) who advise on the proper diagnostics and treatment for our well being. Gadolei yisroel themselves routinely seek out the best medical treatment for themselves and their families and advise their followers to do the same. Do we supplement medical advice with tefillah, tzadakah and ma’asim tovim….of course we do. But deliberately ignoring a medical issue or not taking prudent steps to minimize the likelihood of incurring medical problems by regular exercise, proper diet contradicts daas torah (u’shamartem es nafshosechem etc.) and the clear guidance of gadolei yisroel.
GadolhadorahParticipantApashutayid: Reb Yosef is 100 percent with respect to cats (as one would expect from Reb Yosef) but chazal bring down that using this ehrlicher newspaper is totally appropriate for wrapping your favorite pet herring (or any other fish with fins and scales).
GadolhadorahParticipantUnless you are absolutely certain about the identity of the driver, you would be reckless to allow him/her to sit there for hours on your driveway. With recent stories about home robberies and carjackings of yidden by individuals dressed in yeshivish lvush etc. why even take a slight chance and risk your safety and that of your family?? If the unknown driver doesn’t move immediately, call the police.
P.S. I will be glad to provide a heter for any concerns about mesirahGadolhadorahParticipant“If only we can give boys a healthy, yiddishe outlet nowadays…A cigarettele here or there is not the problem”
You are so right…. we should give all the Yungerleit access to Weed, offer make sue we tap a keg of beer with Thursday night cholent and assure that all the shtenders in the beis medrash have USB ports for charging their “kosher” smartphones. That is the least we can do for the next generation of bnai torah.
GadolhadorahParticipantIf he wants to park on your driveway, go to the garage, pull out the lawnmower or snow-blower (depending on the season) and ask him to perform some useful work in exchange. I agree with several of the other posters that I would be uncomfortable having a stranger, even if he is wearing a Shtreimel and with a bunch of seforim on the front seat) sitting outside my house for several hours.
September 19, 2019 11:51 am at 11:51 am in reply to: Bullying Smokers and vapers in frum velt #1788100GadolhadorahParticipantThe issue is not that we are shaming or bullying them for THEIR behavior…that is 100 percent their business. Its only when THEIR dangerous habits affect the health and well-being of US and OUR children that we have both the right and obligation to affirmatively seek to redirect their behavior so it doesn’t affect us. Think about a scenario where you are sitting on an airplane and the guy sitting next to your kids insists on watching (legal) pritzus on his laptop that is easily visible to your kids. Wouldn’t you first ask him to put it away, and if not then elevate the issue to the flight attendants and publicly pressure him to discontinue his legal but otherwise harmful behavior. Call it bullying or shaming if you want but in that situation, I have no problem.
September 18, 2019 9:10 pm at 9:10 pm in reply to: Bullying Smokers and vapers in frum velt #1787970GadolhadorahParticipantWhile not the posek hadorah, I would venture to say that it is assur to publicly shame/bully/harass an individual who engages in smoking or vaping in private in a manner that does NOT expose third-parties to second hand smoke or could be seen by children. Such individuals may sadly be addicted or are using a vaping device to move away from their addiction. However, when such individuals insist on engaging in their activities in a manner that exposes others to second-hand smoke or might arouse the interest of children, than we should firmly “discourage” their behavior in a non-violent and lawful way, if they persist after being asked to stop.
September 18, 2019 1:55 pm at 1:55 pm in reply to: Why doesn’t the coffee room accurately reflect last update #1787856GadolhadorahParticipantToras Moshe: Perhaps you will volunteer your technical savy to the Mods and help resolve the issues that occasionally require a lag in posting the full text of updates that have been separately posted in the real time log of moderated postings. Overall, the process here is a lot better and has fewer problems than most other niche moderated blogs I track with very moderation by real human beings versus algorithmic monitoring and moderatkon.
GadolhadorahParticipantOrelle: Perhaps consider the really novel idea of allowing the young man or woman who is looking for a kalah to do it the old-fashioned way and find their own bashert. There is no shidduch crisis so by definition, there is no shidduch crisis. If the candidate is from “chutz la’aretz” (aka anywhere outside NYC, Monsey or Lakewood), than let him/her spend an occasional Shabbos with friends/family in the NY metro area so they can do their own search or perhaps post an ad on one of the frum dating websites.
GadolhadorahParticipantThe winning design will also incorporate the new state motto that won the competition to replace the current “Empire State”. The winning motto is”New York: Gateway to Connecticut”.
GadolhadorahParticipantChaver: Not sure what planet you’ve been living on. Even young women who did not pursue a graduate degree or career path, still had networks of friends from beis yaakov, seminary and in some cases collegel, family relationships, etc. Not clear why you have such a narrow view of the real world. As to why there was no minhag, I’ll leave it to our other minhag gurus to speculate.. If you’ve ever been to a frum chassanah, you’d know that the kalah often has more “friends” in attendance than the choson.
GadolhadorahParticipantChadgadya….Your FLUE is suffering from multiple puncture wounds which often respond well to injections of grey matter (e.g. also know to pharmacists as “duct tape”) to fill the voids.
GadolhadorahParticipantThe beta version of the new CR software that would randomly assign screen names to posts (versus the quaint concept of using the real poster’s name) turned out to have some glitches (e.g. a posting regarding moishiach having been sighted on Eastern Parkway erev Shabbos was attributed to Joseph) and the CR has to be taken down while the software undergoes further development.
GadolhadorahParticipantMost employers, including many of the larger Jewish mosdos, are offering free vaccinations, along with the many of the drugstores and markets with pharmacies (if you have any insurance). Its a no brainer except for the no-brainer anti-vaxers. While the effectiveness varies from year to year, there are virtually no side-effects (except for a sore arm for a few hours) and even a 30-40 success rate is better than nothing.
GadolhadorahParticipantAJ: The media networks are NOT the president of the United States, a revered position that historically did not get down in the gutter slime with the National Enquirer, Fox, MSNBC (or whoever is your media villain). At least the right-wing Evangelicals acknowledge they have to hold to hold their nose each time they “embrace” Trump to further a narrow policy issue he panders to. If moving the Embassy to yerushalayim or other superficially pro-Israel actions warrants your support for this individual, than I’d just respectfully disagree.
GadolhadorahParticipantI’m not sure if this whole thread is serious or just one weird troll. If true, it would be the equivalent of the chosen’s friends wishing him to come down with lung cancer. This goiyeshe stupidity about casting an evil spell on the relationship should never warrant dealing in cigarettes.
GadolhadorahParticipantVulgarity, adultery, denigration of those who disagree with him, lying to the point of blurring the lines of reality (“don’ t believe what you just saw, narcissism with a quasi messianic tone….
Yes, our “hero”.September 13, 2019 12:49 am at 12:49 am in reply to: Best New Top Loading Washing Machine (Washer) #1786422GadolhadorahParticipantYou can dry your laundry with a leaf blower but it generally takes more time, its much less energy efficient, your laundry room may smell from gasoline and set off the CO alarm, and your arm will feel like a lead pipe after about 10 or 15 minutes….Otherwise, great idea and saves at least $1,000 for a dryer.
September 13, 2019 12:49 am at 12:49 am in reply to: Younger siblings waiting for older to get engaged #1786425GadolhadorahParticipantMentsch1: I really had a hard time understanding your point. Aside from speaking with your younger sister or brother and expressing optimism that they too will soon find their beschert, how would it possibly help them for you to forego an opportunity to marry someone you love and respect and delay starting your own family?? Obviously you engage your sibling with great empathy but it make zero sense to wait and wait and wait…..
