Today’s 5-3 decisions not to grant expedited consideration of the Pennsylvania and North Carolina GOP petitions to strike down state efforts to extend deadlines for counting mail-in votes (with Barrett recusing herself) must have been a disappointment to Trump. It continues a recent trend to allow legislated changes to state law to stand while striking down judicial changes not authorized in state law. Next up will be the ACA hearings right after the election and decisions whether to grant cert to Mississippi and other cases testing the limits on Roe v. Wade.
GadolhadorahParticipantAnd so??? Those who held by sheitels before the “ban” will continue wearing and those who didn’t won’t . I don’t see many women rushing to burn $3,000 sheitels because some Rav decided they were used in avodah zorah. They will follow their own common sense and the advice of their local rav/posek.
GadolhadorahParticipantTo turn the OP 180 degrees, “what happens if Biden wins” and if so, “who will be more disappointed; the Trumpkopfs or the AOCs ??? My own view is that it will be the latter when the left wing of the party realizes that Biden is a lot more centrist and is not going to roll over and allow Harris or the AOCs to dictate policy.
GadolhadorahParticipantUncommon Saychel: So you know the hashkafah and level of lamdus of all the posters here in the CR. I’m in awe of your nevius or stupidity, although not sure which is applicable. Yes, there are many frum yidden who don’t agree with those rabbonim who have expressed positive sentiments towards the incumbent and some of us actually exist here in the CR. Its always challenging to express disagreement when someone else’s “gadol” has taken a contrary position. Yes, they are more likely to be MO and also more likely to exist outside the echo chamber that many of you occupy.
GadolhadorahParticipantThe “lesser of two evils” used in a colloquial sense…NOT to imply that either is per se an “evil” person. You are right, perhaps better to say two bad choices. Our nominating and campaign finance systems really make it difficult for the brightest and most talented leadership of either party to come out of the process on top.
October 28, 2020 10:24 am at 10:24 am in reply to: Finding out who won the presidential election 2020 #1914404GadolhadorahParticipantSam: Remember that there are very clear admonitions in the Torah regarding actions one can take to harm themselves. If you wake up on Thursday morning and Biden has been declared the winner or is leading by an insurmountable margin, remember to take a deep breath and remember the frequent words of some anonymous CR poster that “Hashem Controls Everything That Happens”.
GadolhadorahParticipantYaakov Doe: While the passions are high on both sides, I don’t think there will be any mass migration to either Montreal or Bnai Brak. Again, its tragic that our choice again in 2020, as it was in 2016, is to choose the lesser of the two evils.
October 27, 2020 10:05 pm at 10:05 pm in reply to: Mentioning a person “dies of Covid” in headline #1914256GadolhadorahParticipantSyag: Just channeling the insane assertions of POTUS and the WH chief of staff. I did a reality check in the past hour. Nearly 75,000 NEW cases in the past 24 hours, hospitalizations trending upin 34 states, ICUs at hospitals in several states in the midwest and west at or over capacity, etc. and Trump is mindlessly running around claiming “we’ve turned the corner” and “its disappearing”. Still holding big rallies where most attendees are maskless (except behind the podium) and ridiculing reporters and others who insist on wearing masks. Criticizing state and local governments who follow his own Task Force guidelines on best practices to control viral spread. While I will give him the benefit of the doubt on the slow responses to Covid earlier this year, his actions and behavior in the past few months have been reckless and irresponsible and a costing lives.
GadolhadorahParticipantbored guy: The Mods obviously didn’t like your “thing”. I feel your pain.
GadolhadorahParticipantYup…..cihopped liver with a big spoon of schmaltz.
GadolhadorahParticipantAnd if the Gadolim, shlita, had issued a kol koreh telling everyone to vote for Reb Yosef (aka Crazy Joe+) you would have seen 193 posts within an hour providing multiple shitahs as to why in that case only it would be permissible to ignore the Gadolim and cast a vote in accordance to your beliefs.
GadolhadorahParticipantFeivel: So this echo chamber is singing your nigun…..maybe next year for hakofos we will be dancing to the beat of YMHA by the Shtiebel Menschen
GadolhadorahParticipant“Well that’s more than a little disrespectful to someone who is more learned, knowledgeable and deserving of respect than you seem to be”
L’chochma: Are you referring to Trump or did you inadvertently post your response on the wrong thread???
October 27, 2020 12:48 pm at 12:48 pm in reply to: Mentioning a person “dies of Covid” in headline #1914107GadolhadorahParticipantThe tragic reality of where we are was acknowledged by Trump’s Chief-of-Staff, Mark Meadows, who waved the surrender flag over the weekend and said we “no longer can control [the virus]” but will hopefully be able to mitigate the mortality and longer-term morbidity rate of those who are hospitalized. We no longer care about the spiraling number of “cases” as Trump said yesterday but we don’t want to talk about “Covid, Covid, Covoid”. We also don’t want to infringe on the personal liberties of real Americans (aka “inconvenience” of my fellow Trumpkopfs)( by making them wear masks. However, if you are hospitalized, we have lots of ventilators and hopefully, you will be fortunate enough to go to a hospital where you can get lots of ZINC with you HCQ and Regeneron. If some die, it will be for a good cause….getting me reelected. i
October 27, 2020 12:47 pm at 12:47 pm in reply to: An Sensible Approach to Weddings in the COVID era #1914110GadolhadorahParticipantThere have been MANY responsible weddings held since Covid. I have actually been to two in the past 3 months. They were held outdoors, limited number of people and everyone wore masks except for the chosson/kalah and the rav who was mesader keddushin under the chuppah. There was no dancing and everyone seemed comfortable with that accommodation while looking forward to a big reception as soon as vaccines and therapeutics made it safer for all the older members of the mishpachas. It is not worth risking even a single life to hold receptions where masks and social distancing are not enforced, no matter what you think of the risks.
GadolhadorahParticipantThe phone line is ☎️☎️☎️-☎️☎️☎️☎️(not sure we are allowed to post phone numbers). If not, just google thank you hashem (one word) and you can find their call-in number on the website. However, I don’t think its restricted to women only so it may not be what you are look for.
October 26, 2020 5:16 pm at 5:16 pm in reply to: REALLY disappointing clinical trial results #1913864GadolhadorahParticipantITZS…..its the ZINC stupid….all this pain and suffering and economic chaos could have been substantially mitigated or eliminated entirely if only the evil medical establishment and their deep state co-conspirators at NIH) would haved pump up the zinc along with the HCQ???
Sorry, I’d rather take the chlorox with a twist of Calabrian esrog (unshaken) while sitting under a high-intensity sunlamp.GadolhadorahParticipantIt depends on which tests are used. The reported rate of false negative results is as high as 30-50% for antigen tests, which is why they are NOT useful as a single test for active infection. False negatives are also higher when the test is given “too early” after exposure. The more costly and accurate PCR tests involving nasal swabs have a false negative rate between 5 and 10 percent if properly administered and analyzed using the proper reagents and lab procedures.
October 26, 2020 11:56 am at 11:56 am in reply to: Mentioning a person “dies of Covid” in headline #1913659GadolhadorahParticipantSyag: Its good that so many DO have internet alerts and information sharing. However, during the early months of the shutdowns, there were many posts regarding those in the frum community and schools where such access was lacking. Hopefully you are correct, and those who lacked such access 6 months ago now have greater connectivity to real time information from those they trust.
October 26, 2020 10:28 am at 10:28 am in reply to: How about a round of applause and a heartfelt yasher koach #1913522GadolhadorahParticipantThey say that the Mods are receiving “huge bonuses” for working through the Pandemic. I cannot confirm but THEY are saying that. I am also personally aware of the angst and mesiras nefesh they endure before making a final decision to delete one of my posts.

October 26, 2020 9:58 am at 9:58 am in reply to: Mentioning a person “dies of Covid” in headline #1913394GadolhadorahParticipantThe local MO yeshivos already had in-place text and email systems for communicating to parents about everything from snow days to school security lockdowns so adding Covid messaging was really not much of strech. They also have very active parent listserv social media groups etc. that supplement “official” school communicaitons. This could be more of a challenge for some Chareidi schools where the hashkafah doesn’t allow for internet etc. but there are still options using the telephone or designating a limited number of parents (with the approval of their LRP) in each neighborhood or building to receive official online notices. Hopefully, the past few months have reinforced the need for even the most isolated segments of the tzibur to “plug in” and have access to current and reliable information on emergencies that arise.
October 26, 2020 9:55 am at 9:55 am in reply to: How about a round of applause and a heartfelt yasher koach #1913386GadolhadorahParticipantAre you implying they have to work harder in election years?
October 26, 2020 8:54 am at 8:54 am in reply to: Is hydroxychloroquine really proven ineffective?? #1913354GadolhadorahParticipantThis thread has gone off the rails……see you on November 4th when the tin foil MAGA hats (and a few lonely COVID masks) are lying forlornly on the floor of several suddenly quiety ballrooms booked for Trumpopf victory parties and of rationality returns.
Meanwhile, your Yittzy Smith “expert” will still be pontificating as to why he was right and all the other public health experts were wrongOctober 25, 2020 4:36 pm at 4:36 pm in reply to: Is hydroxychloroquine really proven ineffective?? #1913276GadolhadorahParticipant(Therve’s more)…
Judy. We can’t wait for installment 2 of Bubba Meiesas from Yenna Velt. Very entertaining.
October 25, 2020 12:29 pm at 12:29 pm in reply to: Is hydroxychloroquine really proven ineffective?? #1913227GadolhadorahParticipantMDG: I understand your perspective but disagree. I cannot bring myself to show ANY respect for this incumbent, totally separate and apart from the institution of the Presidency.
Read the endorsement of Biden in the Manchester Union Leader and why they won’t support a Republican candidate for president for the first time in over 100 years. This is probably the most solid bedrock Republican newspaper in the U.S. and has taken down many Democratic candidates over the past several decades but couldn’t find any redeeming values in supporting the incumbent for reelection.
October 25, 2020 8:10 am at 8:10 am in reply to: Is hydroxychloroquine really proven ineffective?? #1913062GadolhadorahParticipantTorahValues: I’ll stipulate to not being the smartest person in the CR BUT there still is currently no “miracle cure” , or for that matter, no “cure”…just several very promising therapies that hopefully will be shown to have a high degree of efficacy across a wide range of of patients.
MDG: I’ll immediately begin using his real name the first time he goes an entire day w/o referring to the Democratic nominee as “Crazy Joe” and finding other demeaning names for anyone he disagrees with. He warrants exactly the same level of respect he shows to others.October 24, 2020 11:05 pm at 11:05 pm in reply to: Is hydroxychloroquine really proven ineffective?? #1913046GadolhadorahParticipantAlways Ask: You are correct on each point. Thats why the death rate is down while the number of cases is rising. Even collectively, what you describe is not a “miracle cure” and sadly, there are still too many cases of otherwise healthy individuals with no comorbidities and who are hospitalized immediately upon symptomatic onset who fail to respond to any of these therapeutics. Hopefully, the vaccines nearing approval (and assuming public acceptance) in combination with new drugs will collectively work to further reduce infection and mortality rates and mitigate long-term problems reported by those who recover.
October 24, 2020 8:05 pm at 8:05 pm in reply to: Is hydroxychloroquine really proven ineffective?? #1912992GadolhadorahParticipantThere is no “miracle drug” for Covid 19 yet and may not be for some time. The Trumpkopf mindlessly ranted about a “cure” where he repeatedly used the name of the pharmaceutical company as the name of the drug that he gad been given. I expect the more likely scenario will be some “cocktail” of drugs administered based on the patient’s circumstances and availability at a point in time.
October 23, 2020 12:43 pm at 12:43 pm in reply to: Is hydroxychloroquine really proven ineffective?? #1912944GadolhadorahParticipantThere will always be anecdotal information about a certain drug used off-label having shown benefits to a limited cohort under a defined set of circumstances. That is the case with HCQ and several other drugs used to treat Covid 19 patients, both prohylatically, after exposure and after symptomatic onset. However, the advocates of these drugs have yet to organize and/or present any double blind, peer-reviewed studies affirming in these results more broadly in larger scale tests. Until they do so, doctors are free to use these drugs in individual cases if they believe they will be effective for treating their patients but there is ZERO basis to recommend them to the general population as an “approved” therapy.
GadolhadorahParticipantThere are some incredibly talented federal trial court judges whose efforts have been negated by entrenched circuit court panels on both sides of the partisan split who fail to properly apply or ignore SCOTUS precedent. Also, circuit courts are increasingly allowing their cases to spill over into factfinding, which is not the role of an appellate body. Finally, each circuit has its own ability to set rules within certain parameters of the federal rules of procedure which often sets up artificial “splits” between the circuits. These are all ripe areas for reexamination, totally aside from the issue of “packing” the court with additional justices to compensate for “unpacking” the court by failure to allow the senate to advise/consent on a lawful nomination solely to gain political advantage.
October 23, 2020 12:45 am at 12:45 am in reply to: Mentioning a person “dies of Covid” in headline #1912822GadolhadorahParticipantAlways Ask: You are 100 percent correct. Tracing and early warning is an essential element of a response. The problem is you have to start early, make contacts quickly and have the support of the local community. Sadly, federal funding to assist the States in setting up their tracing programs came late and many States still have not used the available funds. In a lot of Red states, there was considerable pushback against tracing programs that were deemed ‘intrusive’ and those that were contacted were often reluctant to share accurate information about those they might have been in contact with. Sadly, with the current spike in many red states, the number of new cases has overwhelmed available tracing programs. Just today, South Dakota (the worst state in terms of new cases) acknowledged that it was taking up to a week to contact individuals testing positive for Corona, by which time contact tracing was pointless. The Governor, who has refused to impose any statewide mask rules or limits on public gatherings is considering mobilizing National Guard troops to try and expand contact tracing efforts.
October 22, 2020 11:10 pm at 11:10 pm in reply to: Still Convinced Biden is the Real Dem Presidential Nominee #1912813GadolhadorahParticipant“No, I don’t excuse the president’s foul mouth, rhetoric, even lies. But he has a history of doing things that progressed this country forward….
Well said. I think you have really framed the decision in a way that few others have done. Our decision in 10 days really does come down to whether we feel that the “progress” that has been made in certain policy areas are sufficient to “excuse” the vulgar, demeaning and divisive rhetoric and the seemingly nonstop lying and misstatements that have characterized the past 4 years. The majority of CR posters likely agree with you. Some of us don’t and believe that progress is possible without tearing the country apart and trashing the institution of the Presidency.
October 22, 2020 9:20 pm at 9:20 pm in reply to: Mentioning a person “dies of Covid” in headline #1912758GadolhadorahParticipantSorry Syag, but fear of the virus by some segment of the tzibur is NOT a reason to lessen the focus on what is happening and what could happen if political leaders don’t get out front of what appears to be a second wave (whatever that means) of the virus. Several European countries have either shut down again or are about to do so in an attempt to avoid massive increases in viral infections. Masks and social distancing are the ONLY real options we have now to reduce the rates of infection and are the best way to get back to normal .
As to your stupid comment about myself (or any YWN reader) feeling smug about Chareidim being niftar from covid and thinking “it serves them right”, I’ll assume you had a long day and won’t bother with a response. In reality, most of those who were niftar probably were careful about Coronoa protocols but were infected by others who were less careful so no, “it doesn’t serve the right”October 22, 2020 11:24 am at 11:24 am in reply to: Mentioning a person “dies of Covid” in headline #1912618GadolhadorahParticipantThe above exchange is the most cogent illustration of WHY we need to have YWN continue to provide the Covid linkage to the announcements of those who were niftar, along with the photos of the overflowing morgues and exhausted members of thechevrah kadishah. Politicians like Trump and Bibi are running arounding flouting the rules and trying to block out Covid from the nightly news. Trump was mocking those who keep focusing on Covid and claiming that people “don’t want to hear Covid” anymore and want to magically “get back to normal” and “be happy”.
Yup Slimshim: Don’t worry, be happy. We have lots of gadolim, so YWN mentioning a few dying from Covid is no big deal. Even less a big deal if the niftar is just a poishete yid.GadolhadorahParticipantAvram: Your governor leans closer to Candidate B and he himself, felt it necessary to vote for someone who was niftar 30 years ago given the two flawed choices we have in the REAL universe.
October 22, 2020 8:53 am at 8:53 am in reply to: Still Convinced Biden is the Real Dem Presidential Nominee #1912585GadolhadorahParticipantIts no longer even worth responding to those who accuse Biden and Harris of slanting their per-election policy statements for political reasons when we have an incumbent who cannot utter a coherent sentence daily without either outright lying or making up some unintelligible allegation that even his own staff are clueless.
GadolhadorahParticipantWhat are all the nutcases going to do on November 4th when it becomes clear that Reb Yosef (aka Crazy Joe) will indeed be the new occupant of the Oval Office??? Will they post a fake kol koreh that the Gadolim, shlita, have called for a day of fasting and tehilim on 7 Shevat and that all shuls and batei medrashim should exclude any Biden voters from minyanim
October 21, 2020 8:56 pm at 8:56 pm in reply to: Still Convinced Biden is the Real Dem Presidential Nominee #1912425GadolhadorahParticipant1: Do you really expect anyone to take your meshugaas seriously? If you want to promote conspiracy theories, at least show some respect for the readership and put some thought and effort to come up with something remotely credible but still entertaining.
GadolhadorahParticipantI suspect there are more Rs that will vote D this time around, than Ds voting R. Just this week, the Republican Chairman of the National Governors Association, Gov. Hogan, announced he was going to write-in the name of someone who was niftar 30 years ago rather than voting for his party’s candidate.
GadolhadorahParticipantIn addition to physical improvements to the school HVAC systems, plexiglass enclosures, etc. there should be some effort made to provide teachers with additional training on remote instruction, whether via Zoom or even over phonelines, depending on the hashkafah of the school. Given how sudden the shutdowns occurred last March it was incredible how well many schools managed. Hopefully, we won’t have to be dealing with remote learning a year from now but ALL schools should provide both teachers, parents and students the needed resources to learn remotely, should th need arise again.
GadolhadorahParticipantJosh)ua15: Have the Chassunah first, meet and schmooz later??
GadolhadorahParticipantMost museums, etc. that have reopened require masks . Restaurants serving indoors, still ask that you leave the mask on until you complete ordering and only remove it to eat/drink. If this is someone you know or trust, find a big table at an off-hour when its not crowded and distance as much as you can. Any of the bars in hotel lobbies that are open would be good choice since you can often spread out your chairs away from the bar itself.
GadolhadorahParticipantYou can take a vigorous walk in the parks w/o a mask. Same for other outdoor locations. However, if this is one of your first dates, why in the world would you want to be close to ANYONE without a mask, unless he/she brings the results of one those rapid tests to the meeting.
GadolhadorahParticipantAside from the issues of “virtual negiah”, why did anyone expect that a politician would act in a principled manner, showing loyalty to those who showed him loyalty.
GadolhadorahParticipantInspections of several schools in the red zones which were operating showed that aside from the obvious lack of mask-wearing, desks were NOT spaced apart even 5 feet and that buildings with gas-fired forced air heating systems were Not using even MERV 13 air filters. If they cannot take even these minimal precautions, how can the be trusted with children. These are simple, low-cost measures that even the most mindless administrator should have required if they wanted to open.
GadolhadorahParticipantHe and a bunch of others who conflate volume and hyperbole with influence and rational discourse. Displays of bravado from comic figures rarely provides much positive outcome other than reinforcing sterotypes and hardening of positions.
GadolhadorahParticipantWhy do yidden consistently allow the loudest, media-seeking and least intelligent members of the tzibur to establish themselves as the “voice” of the community. Aside from his lack of midos and consistent disregard for the admonitions of gadolim and askanim on a wide range of issues, he has quickly established himself as a clown and bufoon who has no respect among public officials.
GadolhadorahParticipantAlways ask questions: One surprising takeaway from recent polling and economic forecasts is that the stock market doesn’t seen to care as much who wins. With Trump, more of the same. With the Dems, they will be spending money on infrastructure and social welfare programs which will pump the economy (at least in the short-term). Also, all these cries of gevalt regarding increase nominal tax rates ignore the reality that on one pays the nominal rate. For yidden in the NY metro area, the Dems will restore the SALT deductions so that will be a net positive.
October 19, 2020 12:53 pm at 12:53 pm in reply to: Charedim Voting for Biden: Please Respond #1911417GadolhadorahParticipantI understand that the support for Trump, even among the more frum/Chareidi voters declines asymptotically as one polls at greater distances from Woodbridge Oaks, NJ, the halfway point between Monsey and Lakewood. (The exact latitude and longitude coordinates are 40° 34′ 45″ N and 74° 19′ 52″ W). Perhaps these yidden have a more expansive view of domestic and global issues that are important to them beyond moving a brass plaque on a building from Tel Aviv to Yerushalayim .
October 18, 2020 10:16 pm at 10:16 pm in reply to: Charedim Voting for Biden: Please Respond #1911253GadolhadorahParticipantWhat about us “MOs for JOEs”???? We have a “big tent” and would welcome some Chareidi baal tshuvahs (politically speaking).
