All this misses the point. Certain recipes call for certain ingredients and in many cases also have a cultural context. There are so many options designed for specific dietary needs, there is no real need to skew the recipe beyond its original purpose. All the new “fake” meat and dairy products have some utility but should not be the starting point. Beyond beef is great if you are narrow focused on reducing cholesterol or avoiding fleish but the sodium, fat and other chemistry set ingredients are not all that attractive.

“I’d be interested in a recipe for a fleishig cheese blintze”

    Recipe for “fleishig” Cheese Blintzes

    1/4 tsp red pepper
    4 Eggs
    3 Onions finely chopped
2 tsp Sugar (4 tsp for Ungarishe blintzes)
1 lb. beyond beef (substituted for ground veal or chazerfleish)
    1 cup all-purpose flour
    1 tsp Salt
    1 cup tofutti “sour cream”
    1/3 cup Water
    1 tsp Vegetable oil
    2/3 cup almond “milk”
    1 tb parve margerine (melted)

1.Combine flour, sugar, salt, eggs, “milk”, water and 1/2 tsp margarine in a blender for 1 minute until smooth.
    2. Heat remaining margarine at medium heat in skillet. For each blintz, pour about 2 T batter into hot 7-9 inch skillet, rotating until batter covers the bottom. Cook 1-2 minutes until blintz bottom is golden brown, 1-2 min.
    3. Remove from skillet and place on waxed paper; stack each with wax paper in between. Above recipe should have enough batter for 10-12 blintzes
    4. Heat oil in large skillet over med heat. Add onion; saute 5-8 minutes until translucent.
5 Add crumbled Beyond Beef (or other substitute) and substitute until no longer” pink”.
    6. Stir in flour, salt, pepper, paprika and cook for another 1-2 minutes.
    7. Allow meat mixture to cool slightly before filling blintzes.
    8. Heat oven to 400. Lightly grease baking pan.
    9. Place about 2 tbs filling onto center of browned side of each blintz. Fold top and bottom of blintz over top of fillilng; fold in sides. Place blintzes SEAM SIDE DOWN in baking pan
    10. Bake at 400F for 8-10 minutes (preferably in convection mode) or until lightly browned. Turn over. Bake another 8 min or until lightly browned.
    11. Serve immediately with “sour cream”

UJM is correct numerically but really need to focus on which endorsements have really changed what otherwise would have been the outcome. His more recent endorsements seem to be driven more by ego and revenge and less on principle. In Georgia, the two winning candidates that defeated Trump endorse candidates had incredibly strong conservative credentials and a record of performance (other than bowing to Trump’s election steal BS). Voters recognized that and ignored Trump. His senate endorsed candidate (a former Georgia college and NFL football legend had incredibly strong sentimental support and no serious opposition) was an easy call but may have a real fight in November.

I’m probably dating myself but does anyone recall when then Chief Justice William Rehnquist was concerned that some court observers might not be aware that he was the “gadol among gadolim” and used a fashion statement adding a black velvet collar and four gold stripes on each arm of his black robes. He later protested that the sartorial statement was less a reflection of his insecurity and simply a whimsical emulation of the Lord Chancellor in his favorite Gilbert and Sullivan opera “Iolanthe”.

Perhaps the velvet collars you see on some kapotes are simply a manifestation of an inner yearning among the Litvish to share in the fashion statements available to their chassidishe brethren and distinguish themselves in a sea of black hats w/o being too obvious and raising an issue of tzinius through a visually jarring change in uniform. We all know that behind many ltivish is a chassidish waanabee.

P.S. Anon Jew is 100 percent correct that Dems seem to be tone deaf regarding voter photo ID. They’ve probably spent more money litigating a common sense issue than it would take to send an uber to drive every voter lacking such an ID to the local DMV or government office to get a license or state-issued ID card. Incredibly stupid and losing issue for the Dems.

    Recipe for Parve/Milchig “UnChulent)
    Ingredients
3 cups of beans of your favorite beans (I use mix of red beans, black beans and chickpeas)
    1/2 cup of Pearl “barley”
1/2 cup of whole wheat panko crumbs 1/2 cup
5 large baking Potatos peeled and cut into large pieces (note: I don’t like sweet potatoes but some mix both)
    1 head Garlic
1/4 cup of GOOD virgin olive oil
small can of tomato paste (not sauce)
    4 tablespoons honey
1 big tbs of Ungarishe Paprika (I use the smoked variety)
    1 tsp black pepper
2 tsp salt (or more to taste0
Firm Tofu (usually 1 18-20 oz package)
Water, enough to cover the cholent

    1. Soak the beans overnight, barley for an hour or two
2 .Rinse the beans well ….really important
    3. Mix beans, barley and panko/wheat germ into a large heavy pot (I use a 9 qt Le Creuset covered pot)
    4. Add olive oil, tomato paste, honey and spices, and mix well.
    5. Slice the tofu into large chunks, add to the pot and mix GENTLY so they don’t fall apart)
    6. Fill the pot with water until the ingredients are fully covered (about an inch over the ingredients), bring to a boil, reduce the heat and simmer with a lid on for about 30 minutes.
    7. Transfer to a preheated oven at 200°F (100°C) for 8 hours or so until sauce thickens. Alternatively, you may need to add more water if it seems to be “too heavy” depending on how much of the liquid is soaked up by the ingredients.
    8. Sprinkle with some freshly grated cheese (omit if making parve or vegan) and green herbs (basil, rosemary, oregano) just prior to serving
    8. B’taavon

Also in Nebraska (where his endorsed sexual abuser candidate lost big) and possibly Pennsylvania where Dr. Oy’s microscopic lead seems to be further dwindling. He generally endorses candidates literally running unopposed or with marginal opposition (like with Herschel Walker) or waits to the 11th hour to see who the polls show is the likely winner.
I’m not celebrating Georgia only in the sense that Kemp et. al. are about as far-right as you can go without falling off the cliff.

A bit of circularity here….if we assume that Hashem has created ALL then by definition, every “new” discovery is “old news” in shamayim. Thus, there can never be a contradiction about whether a “new discovery” or “hypothesis” about the unknown is credible to a torah believer. If the first astronauts landing on Mars discover a Lipa Schmeltzer CD on the surface, it should be obvious how it got there. “shamayim” and “aretz” and everything within needs to be understood in a very expansive context.

Assuming, arguendo, that there were anecdotal cases of data having been manipulated and/or dissenting views suppressed, that would still mean that well over 90 percent of scientists with relevant credentials agree on the core issue of a warming trend attributable to man-made activities. Even many (non-Maga) Republican “climate deniers” have come around to accept the fact that global warming is a real concern. The primary disagreement today is more over the rate of change and the most cost-effective strategies for slowing the warming effect. Unlike most other forms of pollution, it does little good to reduce CO2 emissions here in the U.S. while China, India, Russia etc. continue to emit at current levels or even increase the emissions that would offset our own reductions.

On a serious note, other posters have correctly observed that the economics of the recycling market are volatile and material specific. Certain materials, especially certain metals, will always have scrap value and recycling makes sense for local governments. The most volatile prices seem to be for paper/cardboard where at times, they have to pay for disposal rather than selling at a net margin. The decline in new combined recycling/waste power generating plants is also problematic. If people are to take recycling seriously, local governments have to be honest in explaining the rationale for their programs.

“The better question is why does YWN allow such obvious trolls?”

Because the editors are hoping that Elon Musk will make an unsolicited offer to purchase YWN given that he is likely to walk away from the Twitter deal. The valuation of a social media site is based in large part on the number of postings and active users they can sell to advertisers. Trolls are good for what the investment bankers call “engagement” (aka how long users stays on the site). More trolls means more engagement means the stock options held by the Mods will will be worth a fortune.

The more contemporary right-wing (political) segment of the tzibur would be happy to revert to a “Leave it to Beaver” velt when all was good if you were a white, affluent suburban family. Depends on which chassidus he identifies with and what the fight was about. If a chassid of Rebbe A walks around with a sign outside Rebbe B’s beis medrash claiming that Rebbe B’s chassidim will never be allowed entry into olam habah, Rebbe B’s chassidim might feel justified in punching the guy with the sign. That doesn’t mean they can no longer claim to be “chassidim” (albeit chassidim sitting in jail awaiting trial on assault charges). Some may recall when the chassidim of a certain Rebbe A had frequent violent “encounters” with the chassidim of Rebbe Z, the brother of Rebbe A, both of whom claimed to be the rightful successor to their father, Rebbe M. I don’t recall either side ever being dismissed as misnagdim.

No one claims that living in KJ is like living in a cave nor was it an effort to recreate an iconic “American Shtetl” in the style of the Alte Heim. There was a really fascinating study of the evolution of KJ published several years ago by Stolzenberg (a USC law professor) and Myers (a UCLA professor of Jewish history). Their hypothesis is that KJ was really NOT an effort to recreate a community whose participants descend into a cave and revert to life in the Alte Heim. Rather, they argue, it was a deliberate adoptation of a mythic past from the Alte Heim built on uniquely American features — the power of religious freedom, private property, and state welfare, all in the context of the Aron versus Zalman commercial litigation. Its an interesting read, even if you come away in strong disagreement with the authors.

Nice story but unlikely factual. In the late 1960s and early 1970s, most (but not all) yeshiva and divinity students continued to get draft deferrals even if they had a low number in the lottery. Other deferrals for married and college students were generally eliminated. The process would NOT have occurred the way you described. I tend to agree with the many critics who contend that “sympathetic” readings of Shylock are a post-Holocaust invention. There is a bit or irony in contemporary audiences who only read Shylock sympathetically because reading him any other way, in light of the horrors of the Shoah, would reflect poorly on the reader. Defenders of Merchant usually offer two compelling arguments: Shakespeare’s somewhat sympathetic treatment of Shylock, and his mockery of the Christian characters. I just don’t buy either argument as credible, then or now.
