July 17, 2022 11:32 pm at 11:32 pm in reply to: anybody heard of new heimish/chasidish community in Ramat Shlomo #2106681GadolhadorahParticipant
You can get a fairly wide range of apartment listings for both rentals and purchases at yad2.co.il
I don’t know anything about Ramat Shlomo but the nicer 3 BR units in some of the other newer communities are usually at least 6,000-7000 NIS
GadolhadorahParticipantFox News, Wall Steet Journal, NY Post etc. haven’t been big AOC supporters or applauding Nancy Pelosi’s agenda. There are other right-wing media based in New York although obviously larger Democratic/Left presence. Upstate, its exactly the opposite.
GadolhadorahParticipant“if women were given a choice of having their husband go on frequent business trips to mixed conventions where the women will be dressed to kill, or to send their husband once a year to uman for Rosh Hashana, I think most would choose this..”
What about the husbands who stay home and whose wives have to go to business meetings that will include guys dressed like a bunch of shlumps??? I’m not sure what you point is and doubt you do either. Normal men and women go on “business trips” because its part of their professional obligations and earning a parnassah to support their families. As a factual matter, not all professions require travel and even those that do have found much less need in a post-Covid world. Our clients have increasingly discovered its really not cost-effective to pay us to travel for hours each way to their offices for a brief meeting. Likewise for most non-billable “conference” travel which most firms will not allow in “business class” any longer.
Traveling to kever tzadikim is a totally discretionary decision linked to one’s hashkafah and has nothing to do with business travel. In neither case, however, are men or women making trip to engage in some kind of prtizus or engage with members of the opposite sex.
GadolhadorahParticipantWhat I’ve seen in larger families is the older children taking on some responsibility for “parenting” and monitoring their younger siblings. It has some really positive features in terms of providing them with a sense of responsibility and it often shows in the maturity they exhibit.
GadolhadorahParticipantSyag: Chill out and try to understand Huju’s subtle humor….I’m not sure the OP was as insulted as you seem to be
GadolhadorahParticipantSyag: “Off” or “muted”….
GadolhadorahParticipant“Look what they [presumably the Dems] have done to our lives and our country and all they can worry about is interfering with the upcoming election…”
Syag: I think you nailed it. Yes, for now, a primary concern IS with what is happening in many states regarding the upcoming 22 and 24 elections. You have a guy who going back to 2015/16 was already claiming the elections were “rigged” and for the next several years stoked those unsubstantiated claims (all rejected by the Courts and Judges from all ends of the political spectrum including Trump’s own appointees). When confronted with that reality, the Trump lawyers (Sidney Powell et. al) claimed that ALL those judges were corrupt. Notwithstanding the absence of any material evidence of “massive voter fraud”, 20+ red states have adopted wide ranging election law reforms, some of which would literally empower state legislators and activists to preempt local election officials and restrict voting access to segments of the electorate.
Bottom Line: When individuals indicted for their involvement in the January 6th riots and/or engaged in total denial of the 2020 election outcome are candidates for state and local election officials and many states are engaged in efforts to make voting more difficult and the counting of votes more opaque , there is much reason to worry. And yes, it worries me more than paying $5/gallon for gas.GadolhadorahParticipantI agree with you in re allowing heresay, some of the staging and use of excerpts but even after discounting all those concerns, there was enough to eliminate ANY doubt regarding the actions and responsibility for 1/6. Sadly, there is a fairly large segment of the Republican tzibur who won’t believe it no matter what evidence they are presented with.hy
GadolhadorahParticipant“actually he was imitating GadolHadorah”
Syag: I think Moishelah should keep his day job….really poor imitation.
GadolhadorahParticipantUser 176:
I know when to say Uumeeein, when to genuflect towards the Pillow Guy, when to wave my “Trump is Drech” sign, when to join the “lock her up” chant when MTG’s name is mentioned, and when to cheer the wicked Fake News Reporters in the back of a half empty cornfield near the airport with a rented, make-believe Presidential Plane in the background (also got to watch where you step to miss the cowpies). I will acknowledge that I still have work to do on my dance moves to the music of YMCA they play at the end of the rally.GadolhadorahParticipantEveryone but an Orange Blob sitting in his make-believe oval office built at his New Jersey golf course “tweeting” on his own social media site that no one reads know that he is about to be flushed down the political sewer. Only question is whether in his desperation he tries to drag other Republicans with him and clogs the pipes for 2024. At this point, for him, holding out as a possible candidate is the only way to keep from being indicted and rotting in jail (where they don’t have gold-plated toilet seats). Other interesting question is when Melania will bail out.
GadolhadorahParticipant“Ticket holders were told in recent weeks that the event was being postponed and that their tickets would be honored for an event next month in Milwaukee, Wisconsin”
I’m sure any loyal, patriotic ticket holder will be enthusiastic about jumping into their car and driving for 14 hours (900 miles) from Greensboro NC to Milwaukee
GadolhadorahParticipantwhy dos’nt YWN show the rallies trump often holds
YWN still adheres to minimal editorial standards and the Trump “rallies” have become more like a traveling circus with the same cast of clowns (Mike the Pillow guy etc>) and the same speech by Trump mixing some vulgarities with the 128th replay of his “stolen election” rant modified for the local jurisdiction. Even the people in the background bleachers behind the podium look the same (my favorites are the several guys in white T-shirts with the “Blacks for Trump” logo. The only ones still carrying each “rally” as if it somehow had a news value is OAN and this week AT&T (Comcast) kicked them off their cable lineup. When Fox News doesn’t consider a MAGA rally “newsworthy’ I very much doubt YWN will find it of interest to their readership.
Most of us would prefer to watch repeat videos of R’ Eli with his “Good Morning Rabosai” greeting to the daf yomi of of the day.GadolhadorahParticipantDofi: Pejorative nicknames really don’t enhance your creds…I’ve been fairly selective in my references to the brainless Trumpkopf who is probably ordering Depends XLs by the case given the revelations in the January 6th Committee hearings.

GadolhadorahParticipant“he [OP] wants to open a new kiryas tosh in panama”
Panama is a great choice. Less chance of vaking up at 5:30 AM and finding the mikvah frozen or being lectured in French about getting your measles vaccine.
GadolhadorahParticipantIgnoring Yosef’s usual (unsubstantiated) rants, the evangelical’s “plan” for the role of yidden in the events leading to THEIR “zman moishiach” is not exactly something we should look forward to. Also, just as we have our own share of crazies on the left, the right wing Evangelical crazies are even more dangerous in terms of what they believe can be done by government to achieve what they view as “god’s plan”.
GadolhadorahParticipantAssume you are contemplating living in Punta Patilla in PC….I’m not really sure why but a fairly large percentage of Panamanian yidden lean towards “frum”/”traditional” as compared to most other countries in Latin America. Also, the airport at PC has really good connections to both the U.S. and Europe. I’ve passed through there various times on business and vacation trips but never “lived” there so cannot really comment on what daily life would be for a young family but I know they have kosher markets, one or two restaurants and an orthodox school. Its also great if you like the outdoors…you are literally in the rainforest less than an hour’s drive from home.
GadolhadorahParticipant“How do you know he hasn’t yet?…”
Yeah…how do you know he hasn’t been lurking here for years and posting as some Trump-hating, progressive yid suffering from acute TSD??
July 10, 2022 12:14 am at 12:14 am in reply to: Inefficient and Sketchy Non Profits / Tzedaka organizations #2104670GadolhadorahParticipantThere are a number of websites that provide some review and assessment of the legitimacy and efficiency of charities but they don’t cover a lot of “religious” groups or yiddeshe mosdos. Thus, you really have to know the individuals involved, perform some due diligence and drill down to see if their demonstrated performance resonates with their stated mission.
July 9, 2022 11:49 pm at 11:49 pm in reply to: A Generational Change in Jewish Naming Conventions #2104646GadolhadorahParticipantWhy would you call your daughter Devoiry or Ruchy rather than Devorah or Rachel?? I guess you have a problem with names from the torah having changed Yosef to UJM….
GadolhadorahParticipantAAQ: Average prices for regular dropped below 5$/gal before the July 4th weekend (when gas prices usually peak) and have gone down further this week to about $4.71. By definition an AVERAGE prices means that some locations will be paying more and others less. There are areas of the Gulf Coast today where gasoline prices are about $4/gallon and elsewhere $6.50 gallon. This is still considerably higher than the $3.25 when Biden took office and then spiked much higher after the Russian invasion of Ukraine. And yes, average prices are unlikely to go much below $4/gallon for the near term.
GadolhadorahParticipantThis was covered extensively on the News page. While there will always be a few crazies who put their own lives (and those of others) at risk by attempting to visit the kever, I suspect the vast majority will stay home and reconnect with their families for RH. The Isreali government should make clear that anyone who goes and is held by foreign forces for ANY reason will be on their own and the government will not risk the lives of others (or the political capital of the state) to rescue them.
GadolhadorahParticipant“A FULL TANK COSTED ME $70.00 DOLLARS IT IS OUTRAGES THE PRICES”
All caps shouting is also “outrages” and does not endow your post with more credibility.
The price/gallon you quote is typical of the national average selling price for gasoline so is definitely not outrageous. Gasoline prices have been trending down the past 10 days and the price/barrel of crude oil dropped below $100/bbl this morning, down 20% from their peak several months ago. Distillate prices are not 100 percent correlated with crude oil prices and vary considerably based on demand and refinery output. They also come down much more slowly than they rise
GadolhadorahParticipantCA: If you are feeling a lack of love and attention, we can probably arrange for you to be audited too….
GadolhadorahParticipantAnonJew: Actually, it is very helpful to my health and well being. My blood pressure is significant lower post-post and my TDS atigen levels substantially higher.
GadolhadorahParticipantBelieving at first that Reb Yosef was a serious poster whose life was dedicated to educating the CR tzibur about all the chumrahs that would support his misogynistic world view, eliciting outraged responses from gullible souls such as myself and ultimately realizing he was a highly talented trollster who was able to construct deceptively simple arguments that generally had some basis in daas torah while flouting the sensibilities and tearing the heartstrings of an increasingly “woke” readership.
P.S. Investing in bitcoin years ago well below 10,000 but getting out way too early when the covid-driven day-trading millenials sitting at home for 2 years drove it up to 60,000+GadolhadorahParticipantNo politically viable gun control law will result in elimination or substantial reduction in mass shootings. However, at the margin, some of the proposals (more detailed background checks, limits on assault weapons and high capacity magazines etc.) would likely result in materially fewer shootings and lower “body counts” where such attacks occur. Its never been a binary choice and never will.
GadolhadorahParticipant‘my starting assumption is that both parties are ehrliche yidden..’
Hope springs eternal. Sadly, even when both parties ARE ehrliche yidden, these kinds of questions frequently result in erhlichkeit being left by the door and raw emotions superseding careful and deliberate consideration of halacha and daas torah.
GadolhadorahParticipantThe golf ball in question with the MAGA logo has refused to accept the 1/6 Committee’s subpoena and has advised that on the advice of counsel it will invoke its Fifth Amendment rights. Somewhat odd for a Trump golf ball given his prior harsh comments about those who invoke their right against self-incrimination.
Indeed, the Tumpkopf has had a lot to say about the Fifth Amendment .
“You see the mob takes the Fifth,” he said. “If you’re innocent, why are you taking the Fifth Amendment?” The ball also has refused to acknowledge whether it was vaccinated against TDS.iGadolhadorahParticipant“The sudden obsession with CRG is not about debating the finer points of Halacha. It’s about wickedness and evil dressed up as an innocent discussion…”
I wouldn’t characterize reb yosef as either “wicked” or “evil”, although as noted, I’m also intrigued as to his sudden obsession of CRG. He doesn’t seek like the dating type but thats subjective.
GadolhadorahParticipantP.S. We did not add any NEW refining capacity during the 4 years of the Trump administration or 8 years of Obama. Much of our existing refinery capacity is configured for “heavy” crude from Venezuela and the mid-East and cannot handle new lighter crude oil from shale gas related production. Until we add new refinery capacity, gasoline price will remain very highly linked to global market prices for distillate product.
GadolhadorahParticipantReal Truth: National average gasoline retail sales prices (regular) were already at $4.80 (before the July 4th weekend) and with today’s drop in crude oil prices below $100/bbl, gasoline prices should drop even further by mid-week. Check the AAA website where average prices for regular and high-test are updated daily. You may still pay up to $6/gallon in Southern California, some stations in NYC etc. but we are talking about a national average sales price.
GadolhadorahParticipantSo does a baas yisroel need to be wearing a sheitel and wash/bench when eating a slice of pizza made with cholov stam within the confines of a questionable eruv on shabbos??
GadolhadorahParticipantIf you are not working at the Shlachthois, why would any bochur who has the option of working “remotely” want to do so in yenavelt?? Perhaps take some time, go back and learn maseches common sense and reconsider your locational decisions.
GadolhadorahParticipantSo for those who feel that “neo-orthodoxy” has taken yiddeshkeit in the wrong direction, you may want to consider davening at Klal Kol Chumos where everyone is encouraged to find the most lenient psak and share with the other members of the shul. In contrast to the more restrictive and outdated concept of “aseh lcha rav” (aka establish a relationship with ONE Rav and follow his directives) members of the KKC are encouraged to be more accepting and inclusive and arbitrage between different poskim based on who provides the “right answer”.
GadolhadorahParticipantIf I was Rebbitzen Yosef, I’d be at least “curious” as to this sudden obsession with CRG.
GadolhadorahParticipantBreaking news: Trump kicked his ball from the rough on to the fairway on the 14th hole at his Bedminster golf course this AM. The 1/6 committee apparently has video showing the ball move and is scheduling a hearing on same. This could be the breakthrough we have ween breathlessly waiting for.
GadolhadorahParticipantThe issue here in the U.S. was referenced as “free-range” parenting, most notably publicized in a 2015 incident in Silver Springs MD. A Jewish family (redacted) became a subject of public controversy for allowing their 6 and 10 YO children to walk to and from a local park on their own. About halfway through the walk, the children were stopped by the police and driven home after someone reported seeing them abandoned. The encounter led to Montgomery County Child Protective Services (CPS) investigating the family for neglect. On the next encounter, the kids were detained by the police and held for several hours without being allowed to contact their parents. Neither the police nor CPS contacted the children’s parents directly, and they only located their kids later by calling 911. The issue was debated extensively on local media and ultimate resolved by a new Maryland policy clarifying the obligations of parents with regard to oversight of their kids (aka leaving kids alone isOK unless the kids face immediate and real risk of harm based on location and circumstances).
GadolhadorahParticipant“who remembers such high petorol prices?”
Tuna: I do. Real petrol prices were higher in the late 70s following the OPEC oil embargo than they are today.
GadolhadorahParticipantCA: I stand corrected.
GadolhadorahParticipant“Because it is not live and things go off topic…”
TSB: Any you really believe that having a LIVE debate would preclude “things going off-topic”????
Perhaps you would be interested in a bridge I have for sale.
All CR topics and threads ultimately lead to either “Trump” “Biden” or the “Shidduch Crisis” .GadolhadorahParticipantIsn’t there some restriction that the 100 individuals must be located in at least several different states/countries so as to preclude one rav in one location having undue influence on others who sign??
GadolhadorahParticipantFor How Long is the Cherem D’Rabbeinu Gershom in Effect?
I had read that CRG became effective somewhere about 1000 CE and continue through 1240 CE or thereabouts, notwithstanding the fact that it did not contain an explicit “sunset provision. Some have argued that Rav Gershon meant for it to remain in effect in perpetuity (or at least through the time a beis din of corresponding stature is in place to revoke it (aka z’man moishicach). Others dispute this view using variations of a ba’al tosif argument but instead it has been perpetuated by rabbonim over the generations, or at least until we discovered we have a shidduch crisis .
GadolhadorahParticipantAAQ: Not to worry, they will go back up when we impose a ban on Iranian crude exports when they formally break off negotiations on a nuclear treaty and renew their efforts to develop “peaceful” nuclear energy projects.
GadolhadorahParticipant“start working on yourself now & one day you may become a big gadol Hador..”
Let me know whether you prefer jpg file format or zip file for an entire album i
GadolhadorahParticipantGasoline prices typically peak around the July 4th weekend and begin trending down. The average prices have already come down about 20cents/gallon in the past 2 weeks. However, they always come down considerably more slowly than the corresponding spike. I don’t think we will go below $4/gallon until the Ukraine situation is resolved.
GadolhadorahParticipantProgressive chazal bring down that when in doubt as to whom to blame for any tzoros that afflict klal yisroel, blame RUSSIA!
GadolhadorahParticipantEckstein: You may not like the idea of a woman writing divrei torah but her Sefaria commentaries are up there with those of Toras Avigdor and other mainstream works on the weekly parsha
GadolhadorahParticipantIt will be interesting what this twosome will have to say under OATH. They were known to be openly “pro- Trump” which is a bit unusual for members of the “apolitical” secret servie protective detail. They were also reported to be the agents who “volunteered” to get into the limo with Trump when he was hospitalized with Covid 2 years ago but wanted to “drive around” to wave at his supporters outside Bethesda Naval Hospital/Walter Reed. I’m hopeful this never happened but if it c’v did, did he “assault” the agents//
GadolhadorahParticipant“It’s possible that the person posts in the main site and only discovered the CR recently…”
Alternatively, its also possible that some 10 yo “borrowed” his tata”s iphone and is seeking to develop emperical evidence that his mandatory 9:30 PM bedtime is TOO EARLY by Yeshivish standards and he is a big bochur and should be able to stay up lateer.
