Given that the primary driver for UTJ/Shas (versus Religious Zionists) is funding for their mosdos, a parochial deal predicated on a large enough NIS guarantee is certain possible, albeit unlikely in the very near term. Per my OP, Netanyahu will have a tough time keeping all his promises to coalition partners, some of which appear on their face to be mutually exclusive. He has also created the most bizarre organization chart for new ministries by slicing and dicing existing ministries and patching them back together in an incoherent manner to satisfy demands for particular positions among his new partners

In fairness, the Republican Jewish Coalition showed a lot more backbone than other Republican leadership. They just issued a statement castigating his claims to “Jewish” ancestry and said he would be thrown out if he showed up at any future RJC event.

Actually untrue. Another former occupant of the Oval Office clearly holds the record (under any possible metric) but WJC made the mistake of doing so under oath.

Lying (aka exaggeration, shading facts, omitting material informaiton etc) to get elected is a time honored tradition for political hacks on BOTH sides of the aisle. Santos seems to be more guilty of stupidity by lying about such easily checked facts. Zimmerman’s campaign was even more inept by NOT fact-checking during the campaign. In any event, he should be seated in Congress and its not even a close call.

However, Santos’ may be at greater risk if it turns out he lied about the sources of funds used for his campaign. It now appears some of those “family business” sources don’t exist. Even worse was lying about his grandparents escaping to Brazil from the Nazis when it appears they were born in Brazil. Now the Jewish Republicans who adopted him are having second thoughts.

It must be that time of year when bored CR posters (who weren’t invited to their office Chanukah party) have too much time on their hands. Just about EVERY major Fortune 500 firm offers their employees the option of adding a preferred gender pronoun in their signature block. It is NOT required and totally voluntary. Many Linked-in users simply adopt the same contact information as in their professional email contact. While I wouldn’t expect a Rav/ Rosh yeshiva or most ehrliche CR balabatim to incorporate such preferred pronouns its no big deal if a frum yid clones his/her/(“they’s”)[professional work contacts into their LinkedIn profiles.

Jackk: National average is just above $3.00 and will likely drop down to the $2.80s if the economy slows early next year. I don’t give Biden any more credit now than I blamed him 18 months ago when prices spiked to $4.50 right after Putin invaded Ukraine. Presidents of either party have virtually no real impact on pricing of petroleum, distillate fuels or natural gas. With LNG exports, its now a global market.

Hopefully, Netanyahu will be smart enough to craft some nominal changes in the status quo with the stated intent of keeping the door open to some limited partition/self government to avoid triggering retaliatory actions in the U.S. Congress and EU. However, as the Palestinians have shown over and over, they will consistently refuse rational offers of some concessions that do not provide the immediate and total “territorial independence” demanded by their most extreme elements and an existential threat to EY.

    “That old canard again?”

Actually, according to the records of the catering firm in Florida (from 2002) it was cornish hen, not duck (a canard is a katshke in Francais’)
On a more serious note, having young men and women meet one another under normal social circumstances (such as at simchas) should be an option for some segments of the community while it certainly will not be an option for others where such interactions are deemed inappropriate. There is no single option that works for ALL.

Gmail (and other messaging platforms) have a “learning” capability that identify your frequently used words or terms that are not in their dictionary and will “autocomplete” in certain circumstances and correct misspellings to conform with your preferred usage. Generally, though, you need to “opt-in” and turn on these features but perhaps you have done so or your other preferences roll in those features.

Once a Rav matirs, can you ask another Rav for an issur?

Context could be important. For example, if a couple has a disagreement regarding chinuch for their child and agree to consult their Rav for guidance, and the Rav provides a more permissive psak, it would seem inappropriate for the losing party that wanted the issur to then demand a “second opinion” hoping to get a more restrictive opinionl

Just to be aware that you can get a passport renewed in as little as 48 hours if you have “documentation” of a near-term trip. Just have your travel agent book a tentative travel itinerary for flights leaving within 15 days (w/hotel res) and that would be sufficient. Even routine passport applications are now being processed considerably more quickly and the Covid-backlog is essentially gone.

AR: Nor would they classify themselves as “girls”. If you’ve been working as an attorney in a law firm for 20 years, you are likely in your mid-40s; even an LA would be in her late 30s/early 40s. The political and religious culture wars have intensified efforts to ban or marginalize published materials that might not have been controversial several years ago but now are deemed offensive or even dangerous. We live in a time when it has become the norm to “ban” writings containing offensive ideas, disruptive methods of learning and analysis and cultural taboos, whether they be secular, religious or combinations of both. The notion is that exposure to this offensive material will cause irrevocable harm to the reader w/o any offsetting benefits. Often, the same materials have been reviewed and endorsed by other so called elites coming from a different world view. Seems that we have less and less confidence in the ability of individuals to make critical distinctions and form their own opinions and instead must rely upon some elite group of critics to filter what they are allowed to read and absorb.

Assuming the OP is accurately reporting anecdotal headlines unrelated to Trump (which I would dispute but willing to stipulate) the real issue here is that the recent events with Trump and Kanye West/Fuentes represent an unprecedented effort by a former President seeking to regain office to legitimize /provide a platform to blatant anti-Semites for his own personal aggrandizement and solidify support from the far right-wing of his base. Dems have their own anti-Semites on the far left but nothing at this level with a Presidential contender. YWN is correct to highlight this existential threat at the level it has.

On a list of the 10 most dysfunctional websites I frequently encounter, the CR is probably one of the least annoying. Indeed, some of its quirks are a bit endearing in a world where we worry about c’v the role of social media postings to trigger hate crimes and violence. Little things like a search functionality for archived threads and posts might be helpful in the next upgrade but overall, it seems to work well for what it is designed to do.

The “speed” of signal transmission across 4G and 5G networks and repeater stations at cell towers is identical for network owners and those wholesalers who lease capacity and resell under own brands. However, there are likely small but measurable speed differentials attributable to the server interfaces used to ID and validate those resale customers and record their information for billing purposes.

The law in NY is fairly clear that pedestrians should not enter a crosswalk once the “don’t walk” red or yellow warning lights begin flashing. However, unless there is an intervening median strip, drivers should not seek to complete a right turn if the pedestrian has already entered the crosswalk.
