If you look back, I this about 10 years ago it may have been CTL who posted a recipe for Ugarishe fish which started with 2 lbs of granulated sugar. That may have been a hint of family lineage. Conversely, it more likely is my memory loss and incorrect attribution.

Either way, there are some great medical centers and providers in Eastern Eruope (I’m not familiar with Hungary specifically) that offer a high quality of care and for those with funds, an alternative to the over-worked state health care system. My only concern was that with some dental implants, there in interim follow up vists for some cases (especially involving bone grafts around the sinus cavity) where they may have to remove the healing caps etc. I’m sure there are local dentists in Connecticut who can do that work but some oral surgeons may not want to take on another dentist’s work. Otherwise, one the bone growth around the implant has stabilized, any general dentist can fabricate and install the crown

“You can’t be sure he’s the right guy until a court convicts him…”
And even then, you are not “sure” he’s the right guy as evidenced by the growing numbers of convicted felons released from prison each year based on findings that he/she was unlikely to have committed the crime for they were convicted based on new evidence (DNA, confessions by others, etc.)

“One of my kids was asked what his pronoun is, and he replied “I do not have one”

AAQ: It takes a lot of courage, even with the anonymity of social media, to acknowledge that one of your kids is seeking to establish a gender preference and currently doesn’t want to self-identify with any particular pronoun. Alternatively, they might just feel there is no need to state the obvious, notwithstanding pressures to do so.

I think we all forget that we are dealing with politicians who are given a blanket waiver m’diorisah to ignore daas torah when it would conflict with their political objectives and messaging. Certain chareidi political hacks play games to create the optics of their serving as “Deputy Ministers” so they don’t appear to be directly participating in the government of an illicit medinah. Others find excuses to travel on shabbos or eat at locations serving treifus on the theory that their public service obligations and desire not to embarrass their hosts outweigh religious technicalities. Finally, others find the need to enter and participate in events at churches and mosques because of their professional obligations. A politician does what they need to do. In this case it wasn’t really necessary other than to score political points with a segment of his constituency who wanted to “make a point”.

The Taliban 20 is holding out for a written set of commitments from McCarthy on the rule changes, committee assignments, guaranteed floor votes etc. they are demanding so this circus should wind up on Friday AM with either McCarthy or Scalise elected. To save face, some of the real crazies like Gosar, Boebert and Goetz may insist that McCarthy step aside for Scalise and that could happen. It will not go beyond the weekend.

“In today’s professional world, this [indicating your preferred pronoun] is what you HAVE to do…”

In what “professional world” do you operate?? I am not aware of any major law firm, investment or commercial bank, communications firm or indeed any Fortune 500 company that REQUIRES employees to select a preferred pronoun. Some encourage including such preference in their email signature blocks but could you share with us which major employer requires such a designation.

Do you wear special eyeglasses that “photoshop out’ every woman in your field of view as you walk down the street??? Are you one of those erliche yidden who arrives at the airport with a paper bag over his head guided to his flight gate by two gabboim holding his arms? Do you require all your house guests to wear Burkahs? And does you employer refuse to to assign women to any offices adjacent to your cubicle?
Absent affirmative answers to each of the above questions, perhaps contact R’ Yosef for some instruction in how to structure a credible troll or “cancel your subscription” to YWN.

Look at the U.S. News and World Report ranking of yeshivos and then decide. In case of a tie, make your decision depending on whether your BFFs live in Chicago or Cleveland and whether Illinois or Ohio has more liberal recreational Canabis legislaton. Also reminder that Telshe Cleveland is only about a 15 minute drive from the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame but Chicago is home of the Cubbies.

The current federal and state grants for “security” do NOT authorize funding for emergency health care devices or services. Check with your local EMS or Hatzalah since they might be aware of any local programs offering financial assistance. However, the costs of defibrillators have come down substantially and a good quality “new” device can be purchased for only $1500 or $2,000 and a refurbished one for $1,000. This should be within the range of most shuls and shtieblach.

Perhaps the most significant acknowledgment in the survey question on the news site is the following:

“…. Specifically, bitter battles are raging – and have raged for years – over what, if anything, should be done to solve the shidduch crisis – IF ONE ACTUALLY EXISTS (that’s a disagreement in and of itself).

Separately, WAPO under Bezos is slightly better than under the Grahams but still takes consistently “progressive” anti-Israeli positions on legitimate security responses by EY to terrorist attacks, dangerous and naive compromises on Iran Agreement and “two-state solution” etc. They are actually supportive of Yidden on issues related to domestic security for Jewish mosdos, dangers of right wing flirtations with white power/Nazi oriented racist groups etc.

“Gadol: Are you sure you didn’t go by the name Sammygol in one of the previous of your nine lives?”…

From Sammygol’s All-Time Best CR Posts (circa June 2008):

    He got his nomination,
but how can a great nation,
    without contemplation
    at this historic station
    at war and provocation
    take a four year vacation
    performing self-ablation?

    The borders’ demarcation,
    the runaway inflation,
    the dollar’s deprecation,
    the fiscal constipation,
    the failing education,
    the lack of expectation,
    the overall stagnation,
    the general frustration…..

    What is the celebration,
    why all the exclamation,
    the shouts of elation,
    without reservation?
    Where is the trepidation
    and thoughtful reservation?
    As if by revelation
    the whole population
    avoids the obligation.
    Deriving inspiration
    from lack of information,
    as if the obligation
    of this new generation
    is the lack of moderation.

    Beyond imagination,
    sans any explanation,
    perhaps from desperation
    with this administration,
    or pure infatuation
    with much anticipation
    awaiting conflagration?

    Where went the condemnation
    of his affiliation?
    Why give accommodation
    to wishers of damnation?
    Guilt by association?
    Not quite – by emulation!
    His wife’s vilification
    of country’s obligation,
    the lack of reveration
    for homeland’s formation,
    the bigots’ reveration,
    the bland determination
    to hold a conversation
    with lowest of creation,
    the knee-jerk adulation
    of every aberration…

    Perhaps the accusation
    of old days’ segregation,
    the feeling of relation
    to Southern plantation,
    with general sedation
    of critical mentation,
    lent votes’allocation
    to Active Affirmation.
    So playing integration
    as if a compensation,
    awaiting transformation,
    swept up by his oration,
    the super-delegation
    gave us Obamination

It was absolute stupidity and the photos were taken down from the website within hours and never appeared in the print addition the next morning. That doesn’t excuse the episode and WAPOS’s frequent use of stock photos of Jewish scenes with stereotype tropes to illustrate articles having little to do with Jews.

In what was clearly meant as a signal to the religious/right, Netanyahu loyalist Amir Ohana was selected by Bibi to become the Knesset speaker. He is the FIRST openly LGBTQ MK to hold that role through which he will exercise considerable control over how/when legislation proceeds through the Knesset. In what was clearly mean as a message to several of the Coalition “social conservatives” his acceptance speech included explicit commentary about protecting LGBTQ rights, with a salute to his “husband” who was seated in the balcony above. I suspect the initial efforts to throw some red meat to the right will be to increase funding for settlements in Yehuda/Shomron and to UTJ/Shas mosdos. More controversial issues related to “Jewish identity”, explicit draft exemption for kollel yungerleit, and authority of the Rabannut over civil matters will be kicked down the road.

Given that the primary driver for UTJ/Shas (versus Religious Zionists) is funding for their mosdos, a parochial deal predicated on a large enough NIS guarantee is certain possible, albeit unlikely in the very near term. Per my OP, Netanyahu will have a tough time keeping all his promises to coalition partners, some of which appear on their face to be mutually exclusive. He has also created the most bizarre organization chart for new ministries by slicing and dicing existing ministries and patching them back together in an incoherent manner to satisfy demands for particular positions among his new partners

Lying (aka exaggeration, shading facts, omitting material informaiton etc) to get elected is a time honored tradition for political hacks on BOTH sides of the aisle. Santos seems to be more guilty of stupidity by lying about such easily checked facts. Zimmerman’s campaign was even more inept by NOT fact-checking during the campaign. In any event, he should be seated in Congress and its not even a close call.

However, Santos’ may be at greater risk if it turns out he lied about the sources of funds used for his campaign. It now appears some of those “family business” sources don’t exist. Even worse was lying about his grandparents escaping to Brazil from the Nazis when it appears they were born in Brazil. Now the Jewish Republicans who adopted him are having second thoughts.

It must be that time of year when bored CR posters (who weren’t invited to their office Chanukah party) have too much time on their hands. Just about EVERY major Fortune 500 firm offers their employees the option of adding a preferred gender pronoun in their signature block. It is NOT required and totally voluntary. Many Linked-in users simply adopt the same contact information as in their professional email contact. While I wouldn’t expect a Rav/ Rosh yeshiva or most ehrliche CR balabatim to incorporate such preferred pronouns its no big deal if a frum yid clones his/her/(“they’s”)[professional work contacts into their LinkedIn profiles.

Hopefully, Netanyahu will be smart enough to craft some nominal changes in the status quo with the stated intent of keeping the door open to some limited partition/self government to avoid triggering retaliatory actions in the U.S. Congress and EU. However, as the Palestinians have shown over and over, they will consistently refuse rational offers of some concessions that do not provide the immediate and total “territorial independence” demanded by their most extreme elements and an existential threat to EY.
