Fast ForwardMember
Nanny, it has been a while since I used Suri Taub and I really do not remember how much she charged. I just know that we were really happy with her every time we used her. Did you try leaving a message?
Fast ForwardMemberSuri Taub’s number is 718-377-8307.
Fast ForwardMemberWe have used Suri Taub (on Avenue N) for quite a few simchas and we were very happy with her. She is calm and reasonable and the make up looked great.
Fast ForwardMemberJdeals.com has an offer for a three month membership to Saw you at Sinai for $22.42 (half price).
Fast ForwardMemberI have always liked dealing with Town Appliances in Lakewood. Yes they do deliver and they are very helpful on the phone. The number is 800-288-1647.
Fast ForwardMemberYes, they are two different neighborhoods.
Fast ForwardMemberOomis, I’m sure our families knew each other; we moved away in 1963. We were very good friends with the Lehrmans and it was a terrible tragedy. I was just thinking of Paula A”H, because her birthday was a few weeks ago. I did not know about her losing her wallet, and that makes me even sadder. Are your parents A”H in the shul’s chelek in Beth David? I had to laugh at Pinchas Elya, because I thought the same thing. Didn’t he also have sisters named Kreindel and Shprintzi? I was friends with Henna (her mother was called Rita or Rifka.) Although our families knew each other, I didn’t become friends with Henna until we moved to East Flatbush. Where did you move to after ENY? Sigh, I wish we could email each other for more walks down memory lane.
Fast ForwardMemberWow, Oomis, you just gave me chills. I don’t know if we were there at the same time, but my family also davened at the Williams Avenue shul and we lived right near Red’s. The barber shop was one off the corner on New Lots Avenue and the bakery was on the corner next to it. There was also a butcher across from Red’s. Yes we also walked to Fortunoffs. Do you remember the New Lots library? Abe Baum did open a store in Queens and I was very good friends with one of his daughters. Yes, I agree, life was SO good there. Ah very sweet memories.
Fast ForwardMemberSlice the cucumbers thinly and sprinkle with salt. Let sit for about 20 minutes because this pulls out the excess water. Make a mixture out of vinegar, sugar and some more salt. How much depends on how many cukes you are using. Experiment with the amounts to suit your taste. If you like the taste of dill, you can add some.
Fast ForwardMemberI heard Yael Respler introducing the site on Country Yossi’s show last week.

September 12, 2011 10:27 pm at 10:27 pm in reply to: I am the youngest on the CR anyone nearly 13 and a half?? #811293Fast ForwardMemberTopped me again Mod 80 lol.

August 29, 2011 1:20 am at 1:20 am in reply to: Did any trees or power lines fall in Brooklyn? #802537Fast ForwardMemberThere was a tree across Avenue N and East 29th Street. As far as I know, it is still there but cars are getting through very slowly.
Fast ForwardMemberAries, you are welcome. It actually took me a minute or two to remember the name. Remember Lazar’s butcher? We were so upset when they closed. BTW, for those who mentioned Mom’s Knishes, the man who went around to the colonies is Izzy and he now has a store in Loch Sheldrake.
Fast ForwardMemberAries, wasn’t the name of the bakery Madnicks?

Fast ForwardMemberAnyone have a recipe for vegetable cutlets?
June 22, 2011 4:45 pm at 4:45 pm in reply to: What is there for a family to do at Lake George, NY? #779909Fast ForwardMemberWe have been to Lake George a few times and enjoyed it very much. There is an amusement park called Great Escape (it is part of Great Adventures). There are also boat rides, arcades, mini-golf, and Fort Henry. I do not think there are private beaches. When we were there, there was a supermarket that had a kosher section. We have also been to New Hampshire and there was not much to do there. If you live in Brooklyn area, Lake George is much closer (abt 4 hrs) and New Hampshire is about 8. Between the two, I would definitely pick Lake George. It is very pretty there and lots to do.
Fast ForwardMemberAbout 20 years ago, I wanted to redd shiduchim for two sisters who were then in their thirties. I was told that their mother is only looking for Yichus. As far as I know, they are still single and looking for that yichus.
Fast ForwardMemberAsk the moving company for a lot of stand up wardrobe closets with the rods where you can just transfer the hanging clothes from your closet into theirs. Not having to fold those clothes makes life easier.
Fast ForwardMemberThe winners are now listed on Flatbushhatzoloh.com. I didn’t win, oh well.
April 11, 2011 10:52 pm at 10:52 pm in reply to: Any new Pesach (Non-Gebrokt) recipes this year? Or great old ones? #758335Fast ForwardMemberI haven’t made this yet, but it seems interesting. I think I found it at Imamother.com.
Ingredients
2-4 Tbsp sugar
1 tsp baking powder
2) 5-6 eggs
4-5 Tbsp lemon juice
1 tsp lemon rind (for those that use it)
3) 8 chicken cutlets
4) Dipping Sauce:
2 Tbsp potato starch
1/3 cup sugar (1/2 if you like it really sweet)
1 cup orange juice, pref. fresh
Preparation
Mix together ingredients listed under #1 and set aside. Mix together #2 with a whisk. Add dry mixture (#1) to this and whisk together. It should have the consistency of cake batter.
Pound chicken cutlets so they will be fully cooked when fried (although the original Chinese recipe is for THICK slices. I however like my schnitzel well done!). Leave them whole or cut into smaller portions. Dip into batter making sure to fully coat. Deep fry in oil approx. 5-8 minutes on each side. Set aside.
Put all ingredients for the sauce in a small pot. Cook and stir until thickened.
To serve: Put schnitzel pieces on a large platter with dipping sauce in a small glass bowl
in the center. Decorate with twisted lemon slices on top if desired. Serve with mashed potatoes (what else??!!) &/or grilled zucchini, onions and red peppers alongside, and during the year, it goes well with rice.
Helpful Hints
Fast ForwardMemberChanieE: Thank you. Last night, I did remember the “meet me at the grocer” line but that was it so thanks for the rest of it.
Fast ForwardMemberAries, I remember smacking the ball in the sock against the wall and the song was something like Yes sir, no sir, why sir, because… (cannot rememeber it all. Guess that is why this thread is just for me, agewise lol).
Fast ForwardMemberI am sorry for your loss; I recently finished the year for my mother. I guess you should ask your LOR because I was told that I had to send to two people, but was not allowed to receive any back. My family was allowed to receive but I could not be handed anything. As far as I know, you cannot go to anyone else’s house for a seudah. You should only know from simchos.
Fast ForwardMemberAlways, I was just by Chynka and yes it is $75 and you have to drop it off at their cleaners (another $25 to $35), but we were told that you can only do alterations by hand and that has to be taken out before returning. So if you need to hem something that has beading, that cannot be done by hand or if something is too large and has to be taken in, I would not want to chance it with hand sewn stitches. JMHO.
Fast ForwardMemberI couldn’t find it either, Always, but I was the one who started that thread. Here is what I found: Simchas Chynka 718-377-3874 (call for hours, they change), Kanarek Tuesday evening only, no appt. 718-338-1096, Mrs Berkowitz (BP) 718-854-2066, Mrs. Deutsch (Willie) 384-7535. Keep in mind that if you get a dress from a Gemach, they only let you do any alterations by hand and it has to be returned in the exact way you rented it. So major alterations are out. If you cannot find anything at the Gemachs, try renting at Augenbraun on Coney Island Avenue. I believe the prices start at $300 (plus alterations and tax.) Hatzlacha
Fast ForwardMemberTrust your instincts. I once had an experience (many years ago) where the vibes were off before we met. When he showed up for the date, I knew I was right but still felt obligated to go out with him. He looked and acted like a “gehsthell.” Within a block of my house, we had an argument as to where to go and we agreed that this date was not going to go anywhere. Five minutes later, I was back in my house and my mother said she never felt so relieved to see me. She wanted to kick herself for letting me out of the house with this guy. So, if you feel something is off, it may very well be.
Fast ForwardMemberYes, I have the same problem; haven’t had any sound for a few days. I do not know how to rectify it either.
Fast ForwardMemberFast ForwardMemberI have been a notary for many years. When I applied, NYS gave me a small pamphlet to study from. In addition, I had worked in a few law offices, so between that knowledge and the pamphlet, the test was very easy.
Fast ForwardMemberI am with you Eclipse, I hate to iron. Also not so thrilled cleaning the kitchen.
Fast ForwardMemberIf you are currently a Sprint customer, I heard they have a plan for unlimited calls and text for $50 a month.
Fast ForwardMemberMy parents said “boorvesdik” and we were never allowed to go in our socks. They always said it was a sign of aveilis.
Fast ForwardMemberWe were also very happy with Eden Palace. We especially liked that it is on ground level and there is a separate chupah room so there is no pushing and shoving while the waiters are setting up the tables. They took very good care of us and everything ran like clockwork.
Fast ForwardMemberYou can say tehilim from Perek 119 using the specific letters to spell out the first and middle name of the person. Also, in the Artscroll “Mourning in Halacha” book, there are specific tefilos to say for a parent. I also read that you are not supposed to ask the deceased for anything, so I just ask HaShem to take care of them and tell them I miss them :(.
Fast ForwardMemberI actually added half a can of crushed tomatoes with some sugar, and it is pretty good.
Fast ForwardMemberBlinky, I will try yours. It is the least “potchke” for an erev Shabbos. Thank you all for the ideas.
Fast ForwardMemberThank you Esther. Torah Times is a good idea and I have a few numbers already. Thank you all for your help.
Fast ForwardMemberMazel Tov Always and thank you for info.
January 13, 2011 9:38 pm at 9:38 pm in reply to: Pastrami over Rice for Shabbos Dinner Appetizer #727876Fast ForwardMemberI got it too Mod 80 and laughed. So there you go. But then again, people tell me I have a warped sense of humor lol.
Fast ForwardMemberIt is Shabbos Shira this week, a pefect time for bread crumbs.
Fast ForwardMemberLaid back can equal lazy. Also, if they show anger over trivial things, head for the hills.
January 4, 2011 10:54 pm at 10:54 pm in reply to: "Hihowareyougreattoseeyoubye!"Do YOU wait for the answer to "how are you"? #724635Fast ForwardMemberYears ago, someone asked me how I was. I said not that great, had a hard day… She told me that when someone actually asks you how you are, they do not want to hear you kvetching and really are not interested in how you are. Since then, when someone asks me how I am, I just say “fine.” Was she right that no one really wants to know? I am not talking about a close friend, but more of a casual friend or acquaintance.
Fast ForwardMemberIt has to work both ways. It was a known fact that my MIL was not the easiest person but I tried very hard to get along with her and treat her with respect. Unfortunately, these feelings were not reciprocated on her part. So after years of trying and only getting complaints, I just gave up and had as little to do with her as possible. It may sound sad, but she hurt me too many times to care anymore.
Fast ForwardMemberAvi, don’t feel bad. I failed the first two times. My son failed his first one too and he was also very upset. He got it on the next try and I am sure you will get it too. Cheer up and good luck.
