Oh boy, I can’t wait till next year, when this will be all sorted out! 🙂
December 5, 2016 2:28 am at 2:28 am in reply to: Would I be a good fit for Sharfmans? (Description provided:)) #1196704FuturegirlMemberThe reason I am interested in Emunah V’Omanut is I have a big background/interest in music, as well as dance and drama. Certainly, though, it is a much different school than the rest – the reason I am interested is purely the arts program, but I am unsure about the students.
December 5, 2016 1:27 am at 1:27 am in reply to: Would I be a good fit for Sharfmans? (Description provided:)) #1196702FuturegirlMemberEmunah V’Omanut is in Israel but American-run.
MT: deadline is in a little while (actually, I don’t even know when the deadline is, but I still have time).
Sharfmans: I have some “concerns” that I need cleared first – working on that.
December 4, 2016 11:05 pm at 11:05 pm in reply to: Would I be a good fit for Sharfmans? (Description provided:)) #1196700FuturegirlMemberI applied to TD and BM/Maayonot, though I’m beginning to realize, after talking to some people who know of it, that BM, though a great school, isn’t really for me.
I am also likely going to apply to an arts seminary: Emunah V’Omanut.
December 1, 2016 10:53 pm at 10:53 pm in reply to: Would I be a good fit for Sharfmans? (Description provided:)) #1196696FuturegirlMemberAnother thing about MT is that it is together with many other seminaries for meals and such. I want somewhere that is smaller and homier.
December 1, 2016 10:49 pm at 10:49 pm in reply to: Would I be a good fit for Sharfmans? (Description provided:)) #1196694FuturegirlMemberYou’re right lilmod, it probably would be best if this convo. didn’t take that turn:)
December 1, 2016 3:57 am at 3:57 am in reply to: Would I be a good fit for Sharfmans? (Description provided:)) #1196692FuturegirlMemberLilmod, mainly about dorms, food. However, this might not be true, and it shouldn’t be a deciding factor.
What type of girls go to MT?
And you’re right, MMY is probably not for me:)
November 30, 2016 11:52 pm at 11:52 pm in reply to: Would I be a good fit for Sharfmans? (Description provided:)) #1196688FuturegirlMemberI am looking into MT as well, but don’t like the idea of it being on the Neve campus.
MMY is still on my list, though. My teacher is encouraging me to go to Michlalah (not my type of girls, which I don’t think she understands), so I think that means I can handle the academics.
November 30, 2016 11:50 pm at 11:50 pm in reply to: Would I be a good fit for Sharfmans? (Description provided:)) #1196687FuturegirlMemberThat would be great, lilmod!
I spoke to one of the recent teachers/alumnae and she kept on telling me it was for “everyone” not just one frumkeit level. However, this could just be a marketing thing.
November 30, 2016 11:47 pm at 11:47 pm in reply to: Would I be a good fit for Sharfmans? (Description provided:)) #1196686FuturegirlMemberI can apply and then decide, though.
November 30, 2016 11:46 pm at 11:46 pm in reply to: Would I be a good fit for Sharfmans? (Description provided:)) #1196685FuturegirlMemberMost of the seminaries I am looking into, the deadline is tonight.
November 30, 2016 10:00 pm at 10:00 pm in reply to: Would I be a good fit for Sharfmans? (Description provided:)) #1196681FuturegirlMemberLakewoodwife: Ok, then I don’t think Sharfmans is for me – I definitely wouldn’t call myself OTD.
Lilmod: Certainly! TD is my first choice, and I need to find a backup seminary.
November 29, 2016 11:06 pm at 11:06 pm in reply to: Would I be a good fit for Sharfmans? (Description provided:)) #1196678FuturegirlMemberFor any of those who know Tomer Devorah (lilmod, so thankful for that suggestion, interested in it in the end), are they both catered to the same type of girl, generally speaking?
Is Sharfmans good for an out-of-towner?
I really appreciate all help on CR! I have no seminary counselor really, so just trying to figure this out on my own with others – you included!
FuturegirlMemberI was thinking Ma’ayonot would work, because it is the more intellectual track of Baer Miriam, and academics is my (and yours, lilmod) only concern about Baer Miriam.
Wow, threre are so many choices!
FuturegirlMemberlilmod: I want something academic, but not overly so. I am a bit worried though, because I have never learned Gemara, and being in combined classes for Judaics, I may not be on par with some of the girls.
However, that “type” of school (academic – maybe a drop less – , religious yet tzioni, small, open Hashkafah) is what I’m looking for.
FuturegirlMemberI just heard some not very good things about MMY from my sister, though I think she just met the non-mainstream MMY girls during her year in Israel…
Looking into MT, emunah18.
It doesn’t have a website… Could you give me more information?
FuturegirlMemberI decided to look into MMY, lilmod ulelemaid. Thank you for all of your help, though. I’ll think about Tomer Devorah, as well.
FuturegirlMemberOk, I guess I got a different impression. I’ll look into it. Your help was really appreciated!
FuturegirlMemberSame with DB.
FuturegirlMemberI did.
TD seems fairly Bais Yaakov type, according to the majority of the girls in the video at least. Not tzioni type people, so I’m not sure:)
FuturegirlMemberHowever, I guess I have more modern Hashkafah: I like the idea of girls learning Gemara, I am slightly feministic, I want to celebrate Yom Ha’atzmaut.
November 18, 2016 12:43 am at 12:43 am in reply to: Seminary Help: BY/MO, out-of-town, maybe Zionistic #1192432FuturegirlMemberBYgal: I think Bais Yaakov Seminary wouldn’t be my type – I don’t fit into the typical Bais Yaakov girl mold.
Maybe I will see you in Israel though!
FuturegirlMember1. In the middle.
2. Frumkeit – frum (though not Bais Yaakov, in-town Frum, more out-of-town Frum where girls can get away with not wearing socks, that type of thing, watch secular music/moves (absolutely not Lashon Hara, moderators, unless you believe this to be bad, which in my humble opinion, reflects only your opinion not Halachah per se, and I listen/watch secular media and am not ashamed of it).
3. Not so Yeshivish or jappy
It absolutely would be Lashon Hora to say about a school that it condones secular music/movies. This is not “my” (or “our”) opinion of Halachah, it is actually a clear Halachah in Shulchan Aruch (regarding literature), and movies have explicitly been called assur by numerous more recent Gedolei Haposkim.
November 17, 2016 3:27 am at 3:27 am in reply to: Seminary Help: BY/MO, out-of-town, maybe Zionistic #1192425FuturegirlMemberDoes anyone know anything about Emunah V’Omanut?
November 16, 2016 10:22 pm at 10:22 pm in reply to: Seminary Help: BY/MO, out-of-town, maybe Zionistic #1192424FuturegirlMemberwritersoul: What do you mean by serious? In terms of religious standards or learning?
FuturegirlMemberI posted questions but maybe the moderator thought they would encourage Loshon Harah.
To phrase it better, I would like to know about the dress-code,edited, and the size of the school. Also, if the school helps set you up for out-Shabbats.
Thank you, this would be a tremendous help!:)
November 16, 2016 1:44 am at 1:44 am in reply to: Seminary Help: BY/MO, out-of-town, maybe Zionistic #1192420FuturegirlMemberModerator: I meant what their dress code was…
November 16, 2016 1:44 am at 1:44 am in reply to: Seminary Help: BY/MO, out-of-town, maybe Zionistic #1192419FuturegirlMemberYes I did, thank you lilmod ulelamaid!
November 15, 2016 11:07 pm at 11:07 pm in reply to: Seminary Help: BY/MO, out-of-town, maybe Zionistic #1192416FuturegirlMemberlilmod: Isn’t Tomer Devorah much more modern than Darchei Binah?
November 15, 2016 11:06 pm at 11:06 pm in reply to: Seminary Help: BY/MO, out-of-town, maybe Zionistic #1192415FuturegirlMemberJustARegularJew: Do you know what the tznius standards there are?
If perhaps you could just describe your students in terms of these questions, that’d be great!
It is not appropriate to ask if a seminary allows halachically inappropriate behavior. That is why deleting that question and will continue to do so.
November 15, 2016 12:57 pm at 12:57 pm in reply to: Seminary Help: BY/MO, out-of-town, maybe Zionistic #1192412FuturegirlMemberWoww, this topic got a bit out of hand.
Could we maybe move the discussion on Zionism, etc. to another forum?
I didn’t realize my mentioning it would’ve caused all this, and I’m really hoping someone will give me a good answer to my original question.
Thank you:).

November 14, 2016 1:58 am at 1:58 am in reply to: Seminary Help: BY/MO, out-of-town, maybe Zionistic #1192385FuturegirlMemberAnd a place that is more serious, instead of a “party place.”
November 14, 2016 1:54 am at 1:54 am in reply to: Seminary Help: BY/MO, out-of-town, maybe Zionistic #1192383FuturegirlMemberBasically, I am looking for an open-minded, more MO than BY seminary, where an out-of-towner would feel comfortable, and is preferably small.
November 14, 2016 1:50 am at 1:50 am in reply to: Seminary Help: BY/MO, out-of-town, maybe Zionistic #1192382FuturegirlMemberI don’t have a problem with Gemara learning, though I personally am not really interested in it. However, I would appreciate a place open-minded to the point that it’s okay with girls learning Gemara.
November 14, 2016 1:48 am at 1:48 am in reply to: Seminary Help: BY/MO, out-of-town, maybe Zionistic #1192381FuturegirlMemberWhen I said Zionist I really just meant that they celebrate Yom Ha’atzmaut, say Emet instead of Emes; I don’t mean outwardly anti-religious…
Have any of you ever heard of Ba’er Miriam? I was recommended it by a friend, though she only knows how it was several years ago when she lived nearby.
