I supplied a bunch of people with Montreal Matzohs brought in through the Belzer Kollel here in Monsey. I shlepped 28 pounds down to Florida in my car. I had trouble finding broken ones! Not only were they whole, they tasted great! When I got back all the people who I brought the Matzohs to told me they had the same experience. BTW, the fresh ones were less than $40 a pound.

Ignorance plus the old story, Eisav soneh L’Yaakov. Mix in the lack of police presence in all major cities and you have your answer.

@Shimon, I built a proper Bais Hakneses in my backyard that is used for nothing else other than a Shul. There is a Shiur given daily. We have a Rav or Rebba coming to all 3 minyanim. Gvir? Me? Why thank you! And yes, you are correct, Monsey has become a disaster area. Drove to Costco this morning, it took 45 minutes to get there.
@Avira, look in the Mishna Brurah 123 and 4 Hilchos Tfilla. He mentions a case of someone who only said the Hoicha SE and not the Shtiller. You speak like a Lamdan, using all the right words, but obviously its just opinion, not Halacha Le’Maysa.

    @RBZS
, there is an entire sect of Yidden that do not say Tachnun at Mincha. People greater than both me and you are in that group.

My daughter who grew up in Monsey has recently started driving her car (under my name) into the city and the 5 Towns area once or twice a week for work. The NYC Department of Finance letters are now a daily occurrence. I try not to yell, rather I discuss it firmly with her, that none of these people, as well as mechanics and the like that have any dealings with her with regards to a car are her friend. They are there for one purpose and one purpose only and that is to make money. Innocent until proven guilty, does not apply here. You are guilty and pay up!

@Always, and you know this about me, how? Are you aware that the Chok also has a daily piece on Halacha? Ahh, its not Kitzur, okay. Just as an FYI, when it comes to questions about burying within 24 hours, its based on a Posuk in the Torah. Not burying within 24 hours is what most would consider Oilam Hafuch.

There is a Zohar from Parshas Emor that specifically states the reasons as to why one is supposed to be buried within 24 hours. One can read this Zohar in any Chok, Day one of Parshas Emor. I am not sure, but nowhere does it say that you should wait so that more people should be able to attend the Levaya. If it could be done before the Zman, it should be done right away.

We started at 9am at my outdoor minyan that is still going strong after 18 months. That is a half hour earlier than my regular Shabbos start time. I was in the mikvah before 7am and then said all the piyutim in my Belzer Machzor. I had time for a coffee and something to eat. Said Shema before the first Man. @Gadol, the first day was almost nice but the second day was quite humid. Hoping for a less humid day next Thursday.

I’m sorry in advance for not knowing how or being able to show you what went on at the Levaya. Jackie was always first and foremost a proud Jew. His extended family were direct, and I mean direct descendants of people a lot holier than both me and you. We all here on this chat have no clue of the nisyoinos that was “pre war America” for Jews. He made the best out of what was dealt him and his family. As I said earlier today, he died and was buried a Yid. If you didn’t like his comedy, become a theater or movie critic. Here on this forum, less than 3 hours after he was buried is neither the time or place to talk bad about him.

According to what I heard at the Levaya he was able to say Vidduy and Shema before Yetzias Haneshoma. He was buried within 24 hours of his passing as per his request. At the Levaya, people who knew him told how he used to say that in his youth he used to spend his entire day learning Gemorah. Say what you will about him but I can tell you that he never forgot where he came from and where he was going.

His Brother and last surviving member of the Children of Harav Eliyahu Mordechai Maza is my Uncle. We used to spend every Thanksgiving at my Aunt and Uncles house and he was there all the time. His name is Maza which is an acronym for Mi’Zerah Aaron Hakohen which he was. They received their Smicha from Rav Moshe. I also met him on the set of the short running TV Sitcom called Chicken Soup. He should be a Meilitz Yosher for the whole family.

@Daas Yochid What do you learn from the Possuk in Bereishis ויצא יצחק לשוח בשדהּ? Was his field inside a building? In the times of the Bais Hamikdash most of the Avodah was done in the Heichol which was outside. Where does it say anywhere in Shulchan Aruch that the only time that one is allowed to daven outside is when you’re at the Koisel?

UJM, I actually have a local Rebba that has been davening with us daily, excluding Shabbos, for the last 6 months. He has his own Shul in the Town but chooses to daven with us. We also have an extremely knowledgeable bucki in Shulchan Aruch that has been with us since day 1.
DY, there are still obviously those that are still scared. Not sure why, but I am here for them as long as they continue to come.
Commonsaychal, I know what goes on there because I was one of the original members of that Shul and still have my picture in the BET on a weekly basis. There are Shabbosim when there isn’t always a minyan there that was scheduled and they come to me.

For the whole of Chodesh Nissan that we had my Minyan, I was the Chazan 3 times a day 7 days a week. I was told that they heard me both up Jay Court and on Antionette which is the other side of Forshay Road. Based on that, we had over 100 Mispallelim. I am still hoarse from that time and was happy that my neighbor who was a Chiyuv took over.

@Shimon, I did ask my Rav, and was given the okay. Second, the specific person who I spoke of who sits 50 feet away was one person who was part of a group of 20-50 people depending on the Tfila and the specific day. He feels the need to sit as far away as possible from anyone else and wears a mask. The main minyan is spread out all along mine and my neighbors front lawn and was okayed by our local Rabbi’s. I would give names but I don’t feel the need to hear another comment re Rabbi’s from @common.

To all those people who refuse to wear masks in Shuls even if they know or feel that they don’t need to, and then come here and yell at all the people who are telling them that they are C’V killing people, what do they tell the checkers at Costco on the way in? You’re an idiot? You’re overreacting? Come on, the virus has been gone since after Shavuos! Why is it that it’s easier to wear a mask when you’re amongst Goyim, checking in for your flight to Orlando on United, but not in Shul when you might make another Jew happy?

@commonsaychel, as a matter of fact, I know exactly how many people are in Scheiners because it’s in my backyard. I have the path in my driveway and I am the Gabbai there. But besides for that little piece of trivia, I know nothing. And by the way, I have nothing against all the people who go to these Shuls, but please don’t judge my Mispallelim as they are just trying to stay alive. We daven at 8:30am during the week and 12 minutes before Plag is Mincha and Maariv. You’re more than welcome to check us out.

I still have a minyan outside my house 3 times a day, 7 days a week. We started it here in Monsey on Erev Pesach and its been going and going since then. Now the same people are hoping that we will still be open for the entire YomTov period, to which I answered, if there is still a need, yes we will. I have people sitting at least 50 feet away from the nearest mispalell and they are wearing a mask. These are people who still have not been infected, or they have elderly parents living with them, or their spouse is immuno-compomised, and therefore have been told that they can’t enter a proper Shul. For whatever reason they have, I am prepared to stay open until I am no longer needed.

@Common, Ohr Chaim is in my backyard. They opened on Thursday for Mincha and Maariv and on Friday for Shacharis. However they were closed on Shabbos. You can go on and on about how they were open, but I am telling you that they were not.
The few neighbors of mine that went there to try it out today were upset about the lack of masks on the mispallelim and asked me if I am still open in front of my house. The minyanim are starting, but they are not anywhere near what they used to be.

Today we davened in front of my porch again. It was the first Shacharis minyan during the week since Shabbos or Yomtov. We will be davening again tomorrow at 8:30 with Hodu at 8:45. Minyan is where the path on Lyncrest Drive used to be to enter Ohr Chaim. The town made me close it up so they can monitor who enters the Shul. There is plenty of room to stand with proper social distancing as the minyan stretches from Lodi Lane till Jay Court. We daven Mincha and Maariv daily at 7:30 and 8:45pm.
Syag, this is no longer a question of Al Tiftach Peh. PC is gone, people need to speak up. Enough people died, Nebuch during the past 2 months because of this, that people should realize that masks are not an option while davening inside of a Shul. Outside where there is open space and enough separation, masks are not a necessity. However if it gets out of control, I will demand masks outside as well. There is enough speculation as to whether the antibodies even help or if there is such a thing as herd immunity that would require everyone inside a Shul to wear a mask. It is exactly because of A Yid’s comment that my neighbors are hoping that we continue this minyan well into the summer.

As a matter of fact, yes. Ohr Chaim was not open for Shabbos. Rabbi Lankry davened in my porch minyan. There were approximately 40 people at the Shul Friday morning instead of the normal hundreds that pass through daily. My porch minyan today had representatives from all the Shuls you mentioned and all will be there again next week for Shavuos if we are not in Yerushalayim, Bezras Hashem.

President is right about his saying that prayer is essential. Problem is that he didn’t give any guidelines which is now confusing the issue. He could have stated that Shuls can open with proper social distancing and depending on the size, that will determine how many people can attend. NYS said that we can open but limited the attendance to not more than 10. Did the Presidents comments override the limit? Here in Forshay, we are still davening on our own porches but some of the other Shuls are indeed opening. My neighbors have already expressed hope that my Porch Minyan will be open through the summer. I’m open to that.

A few points. First of all, the comments section of YWN seems not to be working so the CR is the only place to comment? Second, it’s loads of fun to give answers to people who think that so called important topics asked anonymously on the CR are going to get a serious reply. Even the few topics that are genuinely interesting and important, asking from behind the cover of the internet seems to detract from the issue at hand.

Joseph: Your original post was about shaking your fellow Yid’s hand not the Rishon L’Tziyon or a Sfardy Gadol. I do admit that the first time I would arrive into the Shul in Kowloon HK and I would see Harav Meoded I would give him a big hug, but that’s not what my post was talking about. Here in Forshay a lot of people will have to think twice about kissing the Rebba’s hand, not sure what the future will hold with regards to that practice.

I just want to state in advance that the only reason I have this info is because of the דבר בעיתו Gabbai handbook I use in my Shul. ה תמוז this year was the date for תקופת תמוז. A lot of Rebbe’s and people into Kabbalah have the minhag not to drink water left open overnight during the changing of the תקופה. However during this particular change there are more Chumras with regards to water. He brings down that during תמוז all the waters all around the world turn to blood because of the fact that Moshe hit the rock instead of talking to it like the רבש״ע commanded. Problem is that this happened yesterday which was ו and not ה. @Max Dear could this be what the Shiniva Rebbe was talking about?

As the Captain said, the difference is in the experience of the pilot. There were on average about 8.600 flights every week on these planes before they were grounded. This plane was in service for quite some time before these 2 crashes occurred. They were flown mostly in the USA and China where they were flying without much fanfare. I’m sure once the software is updated and the pilots familiarize themselves with the plane it will be fine.

I never understood the scene that takes place at all the Yeshivisha Chasunahs. Right after the Chupah is over and they’re walking to the Yichud room, they’re dancing wildly with their friends, separated by people pushing over each other to get in a hug. They waited their whole lives for this moment, let them celebrate with each other.

It was Rav Chaim Zimmerman. He was asked to leave his post as Rosh Hayeshiva by the President of the Yeshiva and agreed to do it if they made him a banquet. He got up and told the following story. 3 things complained to the Ribono Shel Oilam, Asher Yatzar, Aleinu, and the Mamzar. Asher Yatzar says, when you come out of the bathroom?? Aleinu says, I’m the last part of davening, everyone is talking, taking off their Tfillin. The Mamzar says what did I do wrong?? The RibonoShel Oilam answered all 3 the following. Asher Yatzar became a Bracha under the Chupah. Aleinu became the central tfilla during Mussaf on Rosh Hashanah. And the Mamzar, Rav Chaim said so eloquently, Hashem said you will become the President of a Yeshiva.
