azi: bochurim have plenty of fun collecting. nobody is forcing them or manipulating them. obviously they would rather a limo but a van does exactly what a limo does. point A to point B. people are giving less tzedaka these days becuse theyre making less money so at least the tzedaka should go for mostly tzedaka, not a limo.

oomis: with all due respect, you are not to decide whether a mitzva no longer applies. the mitzva of “chayav inish libisumei etc” definitely is still a mitzva even though you dont like it or feel the yeshiva guys next to you are not performing it correctly.

“The boys think they are very cool when they are drinking, and that is their motivation, not the fulfillment of a mitzvah.” please dont assume that. be dan lekav zchus as we are required to be. the ages 16 to 21 really isnt a big difference when it comes to drinking, except experience. the age 21 doesnt make sense anyway, when everything else is 18.

“And during times when high fences against sin are needed, then even social drinking even on Purim needs to be curtailed. Only when high fences against sin are needed do we need to consider discouraging women from dressing up in costumes on Purim.”

josh: i have no idea why you assume i mean ‘really’ drunk when i say drunk. a person getting drunk normally is a mitzva and does not have to be curtailed on Purim. Tznius issues do have to be stopped. i’m not getting your fence analogy. if you could please explain why tznius issues should be discouraged after we ban mitzvos?

oomis: when i say drunk, i dont mean stinking drunk as you so kindly called it. i mean drunk. not plastered off your head, not wasted completely, not smashed out of your brains, and i cant think of any other synonyms right now. there is a difference between being drunk and being stinking drunk. you had many valid reasons as to not get stinking drunk but what comes out is that you think its ok to get ‘normal’ drunk as long as you give your car keys to someone else. please correct me if im wrong

justsmile: your right. i was wrong in saying that. it could very well be that Rav Kaminetsky never said that, and didnt come out and deny it. Joseph is also right about The Jewish Star. Its not known for its accuracy. But, I have heard Lipa discuss this issue of who these 3 Gedolim are on the radio. I cant remember if it was Zev Brenner or Nachum Segal. The show was a couple months ago and he said he wasnt saying their names but that you could trust him. I think Lipa is an erliche Yid and I trust him completely that he has haskomos. He listened to the Gedolim last year and that and many other things allow me to believe him. If you dont want to then fine.

jojo. if a newspaper says Rabbi Kaminetzky said something he never said i assure you he would publicly and vehemently deny it not just to you. since he never did publicly deny it i and everyone else believe it and i definitely dont believe what you say.

sjs: how are those 2 statements equateable? the internet causes spiritual harm every single day R”L to Yidden. I never heard a story of a drunk Yid killing someone when he was drunk on Purim. If you feel that people shouldnt get drunk on Purim there are many valid reasons as to why not. Killing people is not one of them

ames. im not sure why you think grown men act like 5 yr olds all yr round. maybe you should get out more or your just a feminist who enjoys putting men down for some odd reason.

sjs: you may be right that it would mutar in asia. i dont know. but i’m talking about frum Yidden in America where it is not the norm.

as for oomis point, even if a woman dresses up in a completely tzniusdiga manner it still draws attention to her which is why i feel women dressing up on Purim is not tzniusdig unless as someone pointed out, she only wears it in her own home with her family and not in the street . when you see a woman dressed up as cowboy it draws attention even if her cowboy costume covers everything its supposed to and is not loud etc

“On Purim loud (but modest) clothing are the norm.”

loud clothing for a woman is immodest even on Purim because it draws attention just like the color red. and this is not the norm on Purim for frum women to dress up and wear loud clothing. it is ridiculus when i see these married women dressing up in public thinking they are still 5 yrs old.

Purim is not a day off from Yiddishkeit and keeping the Torah even if you wish it was.

chanie: i think it is inherently untzniusdik for women to dress up. women have no makom to dress up and should not draw attention to themselves by dressing up as a clown or a princess or wearing a pink sheitel. i have never seen a choshuve rebbitzen in my neighborhood delivering shalach manos wearing a pink sheitel or whatever. its just not how a Bas Yisroel acts even on Purim.

oomis: i never said drunks didnt cause major accidents etc. but for someone to say you shouldnt get drunk because you may kill someone is ridiculus.

the age 21 is ridiculus. even 20 would be stupid. if an 18 yr old could join the army and die for his country and if 18 is a legal adult why on earth is the drinking age 21? the age should be 18 like everything else in america.

plenty of people are able to get drunk at night and be mikayem the mitzvas hayom. for those that cant should not get drunk as i said dont drink at night unless you can wake up for megilla. i should have wrote as you said to be mikayem all of the mitzvas hayom and not just to wake up for megilla

i once heard this. for the first 5 minutes dont look out of your siddur. if someone drops something or whatever distraction dont look up. do the 5 minutes for a week. then the next week do 10. every week add on another 5. it could even be less depending on the person, but if you try to do it all at once it wont work.dont do 5 the first day and 10 the next day. hatzlocha

“Basically you are saying that you think people should get drunk but only if they don’t get drunk… “

noitall: if i wanted to say that, i simply would have said that. please dont put words in my mouth. if you think when all yidden get drunk they act like goyim, unfortunately you are either naieve or just stereotyping frum yidden.

“Anyway, flatbush WHY do u think underage buchurim should drink?? Its ILLEGAL why make a chilul Hashem??? The ones who are underage are the ones who get in trouble….they should NOT be drinking and no one should encourage them to either”

blackcar: i never said they should. i said its ok. and when i said they have to act like yidden that means not making a chillul Hashem. if they will make a chillul Hashem obviously they cant drink.

sjs: if you read by posts after the original “hypocrit” post, i said that i thought it was implied that the statement was hypocritical and not GAW as a person because i have no idea who she is. if that wasnt clear then now it should be.

GAW:i apologize to you if you thought it was meant as a personal attack. I should have worded it differently the first time. also, i think monsey lakewood and flatbush (and the entire brooklyn) are definitely IN TOWN and i think most people will agree to that except maybe by lakewood. although baltimore is definitelty OOT.

in reply to: Why Fingerprints? #638017

Mr. Elliot B. Pasik Esq.: The law that you are mandating that forces non public schools to fingerprint prospective emloyees does not apply to current employees. Current employees of yeshivos may have a criminal record and nobody will know. What do we do about the current situation? How can we get these people out of the yeshiva system whether they may be teachers, janitors etc. if they have a criminal record? Even if this law passes these current employees would skoot around it.

Also, when this law hopefully passes, each fingerprinting of a prospective employer will cost 100 dollars. Does the yeshiva or the applicant pay for this? In todays rough economic times 100 dollars is alot for someone without a job if the prospective employer pays. If the yeshiva pays, where do they come up with 100 dollars for every prospective employee? Why should’nt the state pay? Why cant our government pay to protect our children especially if they pay for the public school fingerprint checks. I think you should advocate in this law that the state pays and not the school or employee.
