Being right and just, being likely and expected is not the same as automatic.

It is not uncommon for patently unfair and unexpected decisions to me made by governmental and judicial entities.

All you are saying is that charliehall believes he fits the criteria for release. His two lawyers recently expended tremendous efforts to make sure the board granted him parole. They should have read your analysis instead.

So do you think maybe this foundational difference in outlook is why you and mdd are unable to see “eye to eye”?

I am under the impression (and it’s only my impression) that Sam is operating under the (probably subconscious, though he might deny it) derech that the Torah is fixed and immutable both in Shamayim and b eretz, and the Chochomim seek to understand it, to bring it down so to speak.

Whereas mdd seems to hold that the Torah is alive and comes to concretion through the processing, the Daas, the Holy Neshamos, of the Chochomim

Depends on how you spin the situation.

Reminds me of another situation that depends on the spin.

Is the light in a state where it is destined to go on and moving the plastic merely removes an impediment.

Or does moving the plastic cause it to come on.

The lashon quoted above from wsj is entirely correct.

    Though incomplete and therefore misleading.

The parole board indeed has to consider and then decide if he shall be granted parole.

The law as charliehall quoted merely establishes the criteria which are to be considered. These criteria are all apparently the lack of certain negative actions of the prisoner. If he meets those criteria in their opinion, then the parole will take place. The judgement of the board, who must evaluate these criteria is at least partially subjective. The parole, though seemingly likely, is NOT automatic.

You mean like the arbitrary dates that distinguish between zugos and tanaaim, tanaaim and amoroim, amoroim and savoroim,, savoroim and geonim, geonim and rishonim, rishonim and achronim?

It doesn’t make sense to me either, but maybe it makes sense to someone like HaRav Kanievsky.

Golfer was only speculating anyway. We don’t know. But I see no reason to dismiss the speculation as nonsense.

I enjoyed your post very much.

I think it indicates an intuitive grasp of Daas Torah.

Which is not enough to poskin with, but sure is crucially important.

We see in this very CR erudite theological scholars who can’t tell a Yid from a goy.

    Nice to meet you.

So DY maybe we can learn Halacha later today and see if we can change some Ikrim. First though we have to divine what Hashem says the Halacha is directly, because the Torah doesn’t really tell us.

Let’s make sure to ignore the Mesorah and decide the Halacha according to our feelings. Why we can even change this whole religion

That is what you are trying to do, right?

    Mdd

    Good question.

Maybe because every Yid has tremendous potential. Maybe because every Yid has unlimited siyata d shmaya waiting for him. Maybe because really there is no such thing as a “regular” Yid.

If so, then what did the Ramchal mean?

I don’t know. Maybe he meant anyone who hasn’t yet been inspired to achieve Shlaymus. Or who feels it’s just not for him. But there is no doubt that every Yid can achieve greatness.

It’s a question for much bigger heads than mine.

    Yes, of course, you’re right.

These are not matters of “obligation”

And I will add: each person on his level.

That does not change the bottom line that he is exhorting.

Which was the issue I was obviously addressing.

    Sam, Sam

Try and think straight for a minute. Your analogy is absurd. His statement was about not availing oneself of a kula, NOT ABOUT REFRAINING FROM A POSITIVE MITZVAH.

The correct analogy would be something like: Of course there are poskim who allow us to build Lego towers on Shabbos, but is that really what Hashem wants of us?

No theological lines have been crossed.

Only the line of Derech eretz, in calling an erliche Yid akin to an apikorus.

I’m not familiar with your CR persona.

    Are you joking?

    Proof?

Did you ever learn Mesilas Yeshorim, Chovos HaLevavos or any classic Mussar Sefer?

If you’re not familiar with these Seforim, pick one up, open it to ANY page and you’ll have your proof.

And you then ask: if they indeed did exhort Yiddim to work on themselves to perfect themselves in all regards to go far beyond the minimum required by Halacha in order to reach Shlaymus. You ask: “who says it is right?”

There is no answer to someone who can ask that question.

Encouraging and even exhorting people to act lifim mishuras hadin is not a perversion of the concept.

If it were all the Baalei Mussar would be guilty.

If you don’t like what anon has to say, fine.

But don’t start employing all your scholarly education to crookedly attack someone.

    “Stopping the Halachic process” !?

By this you mean: encouraging Yiddim to go beyond the most minimal possible shitah, in order to express their love for The Ribono Shel Olam?

He said: “Of course there are poskim to rely on to take a shower. But is that really what Hashem wants of us?”

He didn’t say its assur according to everyone to take a shower. He said How can you? The same basic sentiment that Syag expressed.

    Takeh

It also irks me considerably to see these people who seem to come l’chatchila very late.

But this is an attitude that I need to work on.

And incidentally, on those days that I am able to feel favorably towards them my Davening is much better.

If I can’t change their behavior then to be upset about it only does ME harm. And does no one else any good. And I believe causes The Abishter tzar, so to speak.

Who knows their Neshamah. They may strongly dislike Davening for who knows what reason and background and are mesirus nefesh to come at all.

Perhaps in Shamayim they are cheering every time he walks into Shul. I’m talking to myself. It’s my challenge. And it’s not an easy one.

Maaseh that happened to me one week ago.

I’m not proving anything just a maaseh that’s related to the discussion.

My sister in law called me sobbing. My brothers heart stopped and they were doing CPR, defibrillating etc. she asked me to come over. I called a Rov I know. He isn’t a Posek but he’s the Rov of a Shul and a Rebbe in a famous Yeshiva.

I asked him if my brother became niftar and his (not frum) wife came to hug me could I hug her. This Rov who tends to be makel, did hesitate for a few moments, then said “no” in a forceful tone.

Baruch Hashem my brother made it and is recovering b ezras Hashem.

    Hello assurnet,

With iPhones you can block access to the browser by setting a password. You could have a friend enter the password and not tell you.

Or you can get a plan that offers only phone service and no data then wifi hot spots won’t work I think.

What you really should do is call the TAG hotline where actual experts can give you the guidance you need. For free.

They can remove Internet from your service, on their end. They don’t modify the phone or filter anything. They just remove the Internet service from that phone number. Probably the other providers can do that also.

    In Firefox:

    Update Firefox.

Make sure pop up blocking is checked in options.

    Install the addon “Adblock Plus”

Make sure you have an “antivirus” that also removes spyware and adware

If you don’t have one run Malwarebytes to remove tracking cookies Etc. Get a good realtime antivirus program.

Run the free ” malwarebytes”. Easy to download and run.

Or for a very extensive cleaning with step by step instructions and screenshots…. Google this exact phrase: “How to easily clean an infected computer (Malware Removal Guide)” and go to the first Google result.

Or join the forums at “bleepingcomputer” where an expert can patiently guide you through the entire process.

The first option will probably be just as good as most “services”

The second and third options will probably be much better

Get with it guys, we’re almost there:

Because acetaminophen is a weak inhibitor in vitro of both cyclooxygenase (COX)-1 and COX-2, the possibility exists that it inhibits a so far unidentified form of COX, perhaps COX-3. In animal studies, COX enzymes in homogenates of different tissues vary in sensitivity to the inhibitory action of acetaminophen. This may be evidence that there are >2 isoforms of the enzyme. Recently, a variant of COX-2 induced with high concentrations of nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs was shown to be highly sensitive to inhibition by acetaminophen. Therefore COX-3 may be a product of the same gene that encodes COX-2, but have different molecular characteristics.

    Goofus

In actuality you are asking to understand everything Hashem understands.

    This is a wonderful aspiration

But of course not possible. Certainly not in this world. In the next world it’s not possible either. But there, there is a constant and continuous elevation of the daas higher and higher closer and closer to Hashems Daas (which can never be reached). There will be more than Simcha. There will be constant laughter because of the new exhilaration and indescribable pleasure of every moment as ones understanding of Hashem grows. This is what Rav Shimshon Dovid Pincus ztl explains.
