    Joseph, no.

Would be technical, time consuming and likely lead to an embroiling unpleasant “discussion” here.

brief sample on the more famous ones:

    Diphtheria no. Rare

Yet polio yes though also rare, highly contagious and frequently devastating outcome.

    Tetanus yes.

    Pertussis depends on current situation.

Also mrs Plony, I’m one of those doctors to whom he is referring.

My children and grandchildren have received some vaccinations, according to my recommendations, selectively. I do not take into consideration how these decisions will affect the general health of the world. Only how those receiving the vaccinations ( in this case my family) will be affected.

    Joseph-

    They banned the internet.

    They banned smartphones.

    Did it help?

    No.

Pretty much everyone “in my circle” has a dumb phone. A few have a filtered smartphone.

Most have Internet with filters. A few don’t have Internet.

This all happened after and primarily because of the Gedolim speaking out.

Don’t want to be accused of “derision”, should have written: You have to be careful when you look at statistics.

The list of contraindications means zero.

Those that advocate not vaccinating do so because they ALREADY don’t trust Big Medicine. (cant imagine why)

You want to refute them with further pontification from Big Medicine?

“About a hundred people used to die from the varicella virus each year in the US. The vaccine for varicella was introduced in 1995; in a dozen years the number of deaths had been reduced to six.”

You have to use some intelligence when you look at statistics.

If you look at a graph of chickenpox cases in the US, you will see a remarkably precipitous decline starting in about 1987. From 1987 until 1995 when the vaccine was introduced the rate of infections dropped from over 200,000 to about 70,000. in the 8 years BEFORE THE VACCINE WAS INTRODUCED. The decline merely continued, maybe accelerated somewhat after then.

    What caused it? Don’t know.

My “smart aleck examples” were for the purpose of starkly illustrating the dangers of what appeared to be the foundation of your post. That it was mutar to shake hands with women.

If you now are saying that no, it’s not mutar but there are extenuating circumstances in which some Poskim allow it, then I retract the farcical aspects of my post.

Yes, very important. I’m surprised Rav Moshe didn’t think of this.

That’s why I shake hands with women. In certain situations I have no choice but to hug them also.

I also frequently eat at my goyish neighbor’s house. I don’t want them to think I’m some kind of nut case. Even worse they might be insulted. And we all know that is against The Torah!

I suppose I could figure out some way to explain to women why I can’t shake their hand; or explain to my neighbor why I can’t eat his food. But nah, they still might think I’m lacking Derech eretz.

    Besides bacon is delicious.

Yosi. Wait. I must be very dense today.

It appears to me you are saying essentially:

I have reliable sources that tell me they heard directly from Rav Moshe’s son that Rav Moshe actually held directly opposite to how he poskened in his seforim. That he wrote these false psakim so that he wouldn’t be criticized.

And that you believe your reliable sources that this is (or is even remotely possible)the truth.

    Are you saying this??

Zahavadad. What you say is true. However that does not in the slightest make the dangers “exaggerated”.

What it does do, is to give weight to the other side of the scale of the benefit/risk ratio.

One thing he failed to mention though in the last post ( obviously copied) is that toxoplasmosis, a very serious disease to a fetus if the mother is exposed while pregnant, is fairly commonly transmitted by exposure to domestic cat feces. If he was an ophthalmologist, like me, he certainly would have mentioned it. (Toxoplasmosis also can effect the brains and retinas of adults, I’ve seen it many times, always in cat owners)

Well if you’re asking my opinion, it was obviously a joke. Although it technically would have been more joke, and less put down, if it was directed *to* him instead of *about* him. But that’s just my two cents. The real question is how CT feels about it. CT?

I’ve noted this in a previous thread.

If you peruse the posts of CT you will find an astonishing amount of highly detailed personal information.

Probably more than the FBI would require for a standard background check.

Yet this same person won’t put his address in a Tefillin bag.

I’m thinking perhaps CT is the fantasy persona of some janitor in a big legal firm.

I’m disappointed in your response to papa, wolf.

Not at all your usual style.

There were a number of obvious flaws in popas account which you failed to address.

    Among them:

    1. How did popa determine the child was a doofus. He never even observed the child. He merely heard a brief, un embellished announcement.

    2. Tattooing a child’s cheek is extremely impractical, probably impossible to find someone to illegally perform the procedure. It would also be a clear marker to police and nosy others that the parents performed an illegal act. Risky indeed!

    3. Who says the child was lost in the first place. Maybe they were calling the parents because he was caught shoplifting.

There’s lots more, but I’ve written enough to solidify my contention that you were grossly inadequate in addressing popas point.

When a statement that a Jew made is publicly labeled as disgusting, although nothing was directly said about the persons character, I believe the chiyuv to at least ask for further explanation before such an embarrassing public judgement is made, is at least called for by menchlikeit, even if not invoking the chiyuv of being Dan l’chaf zchus (which I believe IS applicable here).

Anyway that’s the way of public forums, and this one is unfortunately not an exception, to quickly and harshly pass judgement and not retract said judgement when an opposing reasonable explanation is proposed.

Something about the psychological nature of these forums. I personally don’t claim exemption from such poor behavior.
