i guess it depends on the girl

i feel very fortunate that my 3 Kallahs had that year

i have a son, went to Neve Tzion, in Telzstone, spent a lot of the time reveling on ben yehuda street, nevertheless Eretz Yisroel and his Rabbaim had a profound impact on him. he has been living, learning full time, (and i mean full time)in Yerushalayim ever since.

“is it worth it for parents to spend/borrow that kind of money and take that risk with their daughters neshoma? “

what kind of risk will that Neshama be in, in an american city for that year?

“What conceivable Torah benefit is there to send a girl to seminary in Israel? “

for the first time in two years i disagree with joseph.

all the girls i know who spent a year or more in a makom Kedushah, in the land of Kedusha, in Yerushalayim, the city of Kedusha, in an environment of Yiddishkeit, with far less exposure to goyish media and influences, learning Torah Hashkafa, growing in Yiddishkeit along with close friends, sharing experiences of growth, were profoundly affected in a deep manner. it gave them a foundation strongly rooted in Yiddishkeit which improved their life for the years following that year. this includes my three daughters-in-law, and many of their friends, and other girls i know.

it’s not so much the learning in seminary (which can also be wonderful, or not, depending on the seminary) but it’s the year breathing the air and Neshama of Eretz Yisroel, meeting the Kosel, seeing Holy Eretz Yisroel Yiddin, feeling a belonging to your People, being closer to Hashem, performing the Mitzvohs of The Land.

it was Shaul, i believe, before he was king, whilst he was looking for his father’s donkeys, stopped to ask directions from a couple of ladies. but the Meforshim say he used as little words as possible and did not engage them in “conversation” other than what was necessary.

you should drink if you have learned and understand why it is a Mitzvah to drink on Purim, and if you do it l’shaym shamayim.

if you do it because you have been influenced by the velt who have come to think of Purim as a time of hefker and unrestrained kalus rosh, you shouldnt drink.

Purim is one of, and perhaps, THE most Kodesh of the times of the year. the yetzer hara expends much energy on misdirecting us regarding Purim because of this.

ask almost any dog owner. they love their dog. their dog is a member of the family. their dog doesnt bite. it is only other dogs that bite.

The most recent official survey from the Centers for Disease Control, conducted more than a decade ago, determined there were 4.7 million dog bite victims annually in the USA. A more recent study showed that 1,000 Americans per day are treated in emergency rooms as a result of dog bites. Most of the victims who receive medical attention are children, half of whom are bitten in the face.

the present is NOT AN END, this is the answer in a nutshell

it is a means to an end

if there were no eternity your life would have no meaning.

    not written by me:

Some of the deepest truths I learnt from my cricket coach. He was a sharp guy, with a keen eye for detail. He would observe my batting style and point out what I needed to work on. But I gained more than just cricket advice.

One consistent flaw in my batting was my follow through. The coach noticed that as soon as my bat hits the ball my arms lock and the bat stops. No good, he said. You need a full follow through. After hitting the ball you must keep swinging, making a complete semi-circle in the air.

This made no sense to me. What difference does it make what I do with the bat after I have hit the ball? Contact has been made between bat and ball, and whatever power I have put into the shot is there already. Will the ball travel further if I follow through? I can understand why backswing is important – the more I pull the bat back, the more momentum the swing has. But once the ball is hit, who cares what I do with the bat? Whether I keep swinging or stop, throw the bat away or eat it should make no difference to the ball that has already been hit. Why follow through?

My coach gave me the answer. The end point shapes the whole. The follow through doesn’t begin after you hit the ball; it begins as soon as you lift the bat. A swing that will end in a full follow through is a different swing entirely. What will be effects what is. The destination influences the whole journey.

This principle – that the end point shapes the whole – is true in cricket, baseball, tennis and golf. And it’s true in life too. What you believe about tomorrow shapes how you view today. Where your life is headed determines how your life is lived.

If the world is randomly hurtling through space, bound to eventually collide with an asteroid and return to vapour, then human history is a directionless romp through time, we are going nowhere, and my life certainly has no significance. Why work, why build, why love if it all ends in nothingness?

But if the world is heading toward a purpose for which it was created, if human history is a long journey with a clear and wonderful destination, then my today matters. My efforts today can bring the world a little closer to its purpose. My lifetime builds on the lifetimes that came before me, and gives a better world to those who will come after me, edging ever closer to the times of the Moshiach.

We are not just propelled by our past; we are beckoned by our future. Believing in a messianic future, a world of peace and divine closeness, inspires me to make today a step further in the journey. The Moshiach ideal makes the world better now. It may even improve my batting average

if your fingers are not well supported by the palm forming a unified solid mass they can easily be bent forcefully by the blow resulting in a strain or fracture. it is not only the knuckles involved in producing a blow, the next joint up can also be involved.

i truly m sorry that it bothers you

    i see why it does

all i can say is that Rabbi Avigdor Miller, tzl who was well versed in the subtleties of the english language used this word to describe the wonders of the Boreh very often. that is why i used it. many words have a variety of connotations.

    to quote from your dictionary:

    “displaying keen insight”

“dextrous..in the use of skill or knowledge”

i dont think any reasonable person would infer the other meanings such as “trickery” when the word is used in this context.

no word is of course sufficient to describe attributes of the Boreh

i havent been following the thread but heres an intersting conversation i heard about, i believe it really took place but i dont recall the exact words. this is a recreation:

missionary: your religion is not the true one, can i please have a few minutes of your time, your soul is at stake

Rabbi: do you mind if i ask you a few questions first?

    m: certainly

R: the only way i can be saved and go to Heaven is if i accept J as my savior and become an xtian, correct?

    m: yes

R: and whatever sins i have done or will do, no matter how horrible, i will be forgiven and go to Heaven if i accept J. correct?

    m: yes

R: and if i do not accept J, then even if i have been very good all my life, i will go to H–l?

    m: yes, for sure!

R: so let me get this straight now. Htler and his underlings, most of whom were x-tians, accepted J, and went to chrch, they are all now in heaven, sitting on clouds, eating steak and sipping champagne, no matter how monstrous were their acts. right?

m: well i dont know what they are doing there but yes they are in Heaven.

R: and their innocent victims, who did not accept j, the sweet women and innocent babies, the Holy men, the six million who were horrendously, continually and mercilessly tortured to DEATH, where, if i may ask are they?

m: well,i mean, well, yes (awkwardly) if they didnt accept J, then they are in eternal dmnation, being tortured in excrutiating pain

R: this is what you truly believe?

m: yes, i have faith, perfect faith

R: then you can keep your faith and your religion, im not interested

i dont believe in blind faith either

its all a matter of looking around at the world with deep thinking, logically about what it all must mean, like your father Avrohom did (albeit on a far weaker level)

at some point your deeply implanted Emunah that you already have will surface, but it is not blind, it is quite the contrary.

this will take many hours of discussion to become clear

im sorry i am unable to explain it well in this media

Rabbi Millers books are a good place to start

im sorry im rushing now Erev Shabbos, maybe will come back to this later

but BLIND faith, NO. it MUST be clear and logical.

    one example by R’Moss

My cousin tragically died from a Taliban rocket attack while operating with the Australian special forces in Afghanistan. We were very close and losing him has been really hard to take. One thing that has been hard to comprehend was the complete randomness of the incident. He was walking on his base and without warning was hit by a rocket. The following day his unit went into battle and were outstandingly successful and did not take any casualties. It feels like a higher power just swooped down and took him. Could this be? Or was he just in the wrong place at the wrong time?

    Answer:

My heart goes out to you and your family. What a tragedy.

Our time in this world is only a small part of a big journey. Our souls began their journeys long before we were born and entered this world, and our souls continue the journey long after we die and leave this world. What happens to us in this short life cannot be looked at in isolation. You can’t read one chapter in the middle of a long book and from there figure out the plot.

Some souls come into this world for a short time to fulfill a specific mission, and once their mission is completed they are taken back to where they came from. Some souls are taken early in order to be spared future pain and suffering. We can only guess. But we can be sure that the story is not over.

The soul itself is only too happy to leave this world. The soul is alien to a world of cruelty and physicality, and would much rather be in the spiritual realm of goodness above. It is we down here who feel the loss and pain of a soul who leaves us behind. But even this pain is only temporary. There will come a time when all souls will be reunited. In the end, we all go back home.

very often people will obtain mementos of a departed loved person.

they will just look at say, the watch they remember their loved one always wore, it will bring back a clear, painful, and beautiful memory. they might remember, when they look at the watch, wonderful times they had, maybe the great kindnesses that person showed to them. they might come to look at the watch frequently, perhaps hold it lovingly, perhaps even kiss it as a particular warm memory surfaces. this is especially true if the watch was involved in a particularly important episode that touched his memory and deep emotions.

if you want teen, you can compare the bush to the watch.

in truth it is actually much deeper than this, but i have no words to express it.
