Write the company about your experience. I had a problem with a “heimisha” brand. I wrote the company and they responded by sending me a box with a bag of each of their flavors.
August 12, 2012 4:20 pm at 4:20 pm in reply to: Can you make a siyum if you learned in English? #1017716fedup11210MemberI heard a drasha from Harav Moshe Meir Weiss, the rov of the Aguda of Staten Island, where he gave a bracha to everyone sitting there that they should be zocheh to finish shas even if they need to use the ArtScroll to do it.
fedup11210MemberIt’s possible that the families have not given them permission to write the biographies.
August 8, 2012 12:07 pm at 12:07 pm in reply to: Why was the National Anthem or G-D Bless Ameirica not sung by Siyum Hashas? #893648fedup11210Memberdo they sing the National Anthem before the Academy Awards? The Emmy Awards? The Tony Awards? Before a rock concert? College graduations? Sunday Church Services? Even though the words to the anthem are over 200 years old, it was only adopted as the official anthem in 1931.

July 27, 2012 3:30 pm at 3:30 pm in reply to: Hilchos Tisha bAv & Tisha bAv Shechal Lehiyos BeShabbos #887887fedup11210MemberSAM2: You are correct that Davar B’Tzina is Noheig on Friday night unless it is Leil Tevilla.
Another slight error is that he states “ideally one should not eat meat until Monday daytime”. Rabbi Shimon Eider TZATZAL states in his booklet that one is not allowed to eat meat or drink wine on Sunday night (except if you are making havdalla on wine).
fedup11210Member1st timer: Rabbi Forst’s sefer – The Laws of Berochos states that the brocho for avacados are haeitz. They grow on trees so I don’t know why anyone would think to make a haadama.
fedup11210MemberSam2: How about MB 91:12. UBIZMANEINU ZARICH L’HASIM B’EIS HATEFILLAH KOVEA BROSHO KDERECH HOLAICH B’RECHOV VLO B’KOVEA KOTON SHETACHAS HAKOVEA. (In our times one must don a hat on his head like one uses in the street and not the small hat that is under the hat.)
fedup11210MemberPopa: I never thought of it that way. what my calculation does is to take the # of hours, convert it to minutes and the divide by 12 or in other words hours x 60/12 or hours x 5. Thanks for the hint.
fedup11210MemberTo manually calculate the time you need to know the time for Haneitz Hachama (sunrise) and Shkias Hachama (sunset) for your location. The length of time between these two points are the daylight hours. Divide by 12 to get the SHAH ZEMANIYOS. 1.25 of these hours before SHKIA is Plag. For example: Sunrise is 5:24 and Sunset is 8:29. The morning has 6 hours and 36 minutes (from 5:24 to Noon) or 396 minutes. the afternoon has 8 hours and 29 minutes or 509 minutes. total of 396+509 is 905 minutes (15 hours and 5 minutes of daylight). Divide by 12.Each hour has 75.4 minutes. 75.4 x 1.25=94.25 or 1 hour and 34 minutes. 8:29 – 1:34 is 6:54 PM.
fedup11210MemberTo Chacham: Reb Shlomo Zalman TZATZAL was also meikil.
fedup11210MemberSAM2: Sorry to disagree with you but the Sefer Taamei Haminhagim calls this minhag VADAI TORAH HU! It dates back to when Klal Yisroel entered Eretz Yisroel in Yehoshua’s time. The MOHN stopped falling on 16 Nissan after the Korbon Omer was brought. Klal yisroel now had to rely on the tevua grown in EY. Since HASHEM holds the key to parnassa it has become a minhag to shape the challah into a key.

fedup11210MemberRABBAIM: My sefer TAAMEI HAMINHAGEN must be different than yours. Mine says that the reason for the “shlissel” challah is that the “MOHN” stopped falling on Tes Zayin Nissan. After that KLAL YISROEL had to rely on “teva” of “parnasa” (sowing seeds, growing wheat, reaping, griding, baking). Since HASHEM holds the key to parsana we have the concept of making shlissel chalah.

fedup11210Memberif you are referring to Camp Bnos Maarava run by Mrs. Gettinger then I can tell you that the girls are far from being snobbish. I have sent my daughters since the camp opened and they all have had only positive experiences.
fedup11210MemberTo the KANOI NEXT DOOR: it does not say that you should get drunk until you know nothing. It says that you should drink “ad dlo yadha bein arur haman and boruch mordechai!
fedup11210MemberAvhaben: please see the ArtScroll biography or Rav Pam Page 433. Quoting from the book: “I don’t sing Sholam Aleichem…but Eishes Chayil one must not omit”.
Deiyezooger: I heard a similar sevara as yours. On leil shabbos two malachim accompany a person home; one for zachar and one for shomer.
Since Pesach is Leil Shimurim, even these malachim don’t accompany a person home. However, my family still has the minhag to sing sholom aleichem.
fedup11210MemberRav Pam was once asked this shailoh. He answered that there are different minhagim and one should do whatever his minhag is. The person then asked what Rav Pam’s minhag was and he answered that his minhag is not to say Sholom Alechem but Eishes Chayil he does not skip.

fedup11210MemberAs long as no signs are posted one can make a u-turn in a residential neighborhood. In a business district it is illegal even without a sign.
From the NYS Driver’s Manual Page 50:
You may not make a U-turn near
the crest of a hill, a curve or any other
place where other drivers cannot see your vehicle from 500 feet (150 m) away in
either direction. U-turns are also illegal in business districts of New York City and
where NO U-TURN signs are posted. You may never make a U-turn on a limited
access expressway, even if paths connect your side of the expressway with the
other side.
March 7, 2012 9:57 am at 9:57 am in reply to: Collecting Tzedaka during Davening..your opinion? #859108fedup11210MemberI grew up in a shul that had a small weekday minyan (15-20 people). Collectors were directed to the gabbai tzdaka who gave one donation for the entire minyan from the monies that accumulated in the pushka.
fedup11210MemberCherrybim:: I am not looking to change my minhag. I just don’t believe one should call a widely observed minhag/chumra as shtus unless you want to quote a specific gadol who writes that it is a minhag shtus. In addition, you state that you have 18 minutes from when the matza goes into the hot soup. Hot water speeds up the chimutz process and therefore you have less than 18 minutes.
Sam2: It is well known that R’ Yaakov Kaminetzky did not eat gebrokts even though his family minhag was to eat gebrokts. I believe he knew all the gemoras you are referring to.

fedup11210MemberCherrybrim: Please keep your personal opinion to yourself. While I personaly eat Gebrokts, my paternal grandmothers family did not. It is not fair to make fun of a minhag/chumra that is observed by thousands upon thousands of yidden.
Feif un: There are other rabbanim who would not have paskened like your rav. My sister cooks special for her son-in-law as he does not eat gebrokts.
fedup11210MemberThe $250,000 figure was stated at a meeting that the Agudah held in Brooklyn a few weeks ago. This is how much the NJ Sports authority will charge for the assembly, disassembly, and any charges to fix the holes that will have to be made to anchor the mechitza to the stadium. The mechitza will have to be built to withstand the potential wind gusts (yes even though it is the summer).
fedup11210MemberThe FJJ editor was alerted by a reader that it might be assur based on what the reader heard from Rabbi Yisroel Reissman. To his credit, the editor asked the shaila to Rabbi Reissman and based on his psak will no longer produce the full image.
fedup11210MemberThere is more than ! reason teens go off, but !reason that the director of priority! feels is a big problem is that, these teens dont understand the fundamentals of yiddishkeit they just go through the motions without understanding what its all about. yeshivos if children have questions ADDRESS THEM DONT IGNORE THEM. maybe if yeshivos would teach hashkafa and sefer hachinuch there would be less off the derech teens.
