When I have make up on, I just dab a little water to wash off eye makeup that ran.

This is also what I do on Shabbos cuz I do my face before and it stays until Shabbos is over and I wash it off.

A23- you’re fooling yourself if you think that the country is well off now under Obama just because the stock market rose. In general, the situation our country is in is quite a disaster. 🙁

“had a wedding last night and didnt want to take it off because it looked so good”

I don’t see the problem with this. I keep my makeup on after weddings and it stays very nicely.

Kelly has proved himself quite a few times as a good leader and having good intentions and acting on them. I think he would be great.

My brother was in camp and he called home to tell me mother that he caught a big snapping turtle. my mother told him to put it back in the lake and not to bring it home. My brother said he would just take of the shell and bring it home to use as a bowl. My mother told him that its not a kosher animal so we can’t use it but my brother had a solution. He answered, “So we can toivel it!!!”

It was so cute! He was really trying to think of a reason to bring it home!!!

Come back to Boro Park and sleep in a normal bed for a few nights

in reply to: Driving Vacation from Catskills with Children #793971

Go to Niagara Falls. There are some nice inexpensive hotels there and a lot to do- but check into what you can do specially for young children.

I think Officer Ray Kelly should run and he would be good.

If the top is simple, it might make sense to just keep the fancy bottom and build a whole new top.

P.S. As with all gowns, make sure to have your seamstress add another batch of stitches on all seams to make sure your gown doesn’t open during dancing.

Hungarians are more ostentatious and gaudy.

Ostentatious maybe, but gaudy, I wouldn’t say for it has a cheap conotation. rather maybe fancy, richly..

in reply to: Why I won't let my kids do ????? #1186747

I can’t understand why it should be degrading to a young child!

My brothers always came rushing home to tell us after they were given either hagbah or galila- and no my brothers are not nebs!

It is considered very special for a young boy in our shul to get this kavod as it is usually given to bachurim- not older ones, just regular teenagers.

I realize now how thankful I should be that we daven in a shul that truly honors its members and the torah!

Only if it can ONLY call 911 and 1 or 2 (or even 4) other preprogrammed numbers (that go to his home and parents cellphone numbers and/or Hatzolah/Shomrim.)

I think this is great!! 🙂

A girl on my bus in DC had one a few years ago and already then I thougth it was a great idea. Too bad it didn’t take off then, maybe now it will.

From the girls side, the girls are only graduating 12th grade when most are 18 or nearly turning 18 and many still want to go to seminary after that which means they are about 19 before they even begin to think about shidduchim.

in reply to: What Should I Do? #790357

I think you should talk to the head of the camp. 13 is quite young for a girl to be so into a relationship. Someone should speak to the girl or her parents about it but I don’t think it should be you. Rather, the head of the camp who is a little further removed would be better cuz’ then the girl(if she feels frustrated or upset will still be able to come over and talk to you about her feelings)

in reply to: Jewish Calendars #787758

We have one from Acheinu- we get it in the mail about Rosh Hashana time but I’m sure you can call and ask for one.

It is large and easy to read. Each day has a few lines to write down chasunas/appt.s and it lists the candlelightingtimes at the bottom for many different cities worldwide.

7 is about what a half day assistant makes

In Boro Park, new assistants usually make between 4,500-6,000, and first year teachers make about 7,000-9,000 (I know some schools that even pay less)

Is it the school that you worked in? If yes, it will probably be more than a new school. (somewhere in the $7-$9 thousand range)

Think think think… think before u spend money. Also think of the best ways to save money in your regular activities. ex. homemade supper vs. takeout, cheaper flowers for shabbos, no brand name clothes…

I think in general the dollar trees are the best but the little ones strewn about the avenues can have pretty good buys as well.

    thanks-600kilo

Another story I used was of a little girl who got a siddur as a gift. She was visiting her uncles farm and she saw the barncat run into forest. She chased it and followed it into the forest. Suddenly, it got lost and she couldn’t see it anymore and it started getting dark. She sat down on a rock to cry and felt something bump against her foot. It was her siddur!! She opened it and started saying tehillim. It was really getting dark and suddenly she saw two beady eyes looking at her in the darkness. She was petrified!!! It came closer and closer. Then she realized it was the little cat!! She breathed a sigh of relief and hugged the cat. then, she put it down and followed it again. After a short walk she saw the light of her uncles house!!

in reply to: Inspiring Davening Stories – HELP ME!!! #1041152

Mashal- young boy wants to get a gumball from the machine. puts in quarter and turns but nothing happens. tries again but nothing happens tries one more time, still no gumball comes out. opens the cover to see whats blocking the gumballs and sees that theres something blocking the gumballs- he knocks it out and then he gets three gumballs!

we have to keep davening(trying) but if it seems like Hashem isn’t answering, we must check to see if theres a reason(Ex. not enough kavanah, speak lashon harah so muoth isn;t pure…)After work to remove the block, hopefully Hashem will answer. He only asked for one, but got three balls.(explain that sometimes hashem just says no and no matter how hard we try, Hashem doesn’t want us to have it.)

I used this in my classroom for middle elementary and the children related very well to the anticipation and dissapointment of the little boy and were able to give me the nimshal right away.
