Forget the wedding veils… Sheitels!
If the sheitel is so lifelike that it looks just like real hair, then it looks like the wife is not even covering her hair. The high level rebbeim and tzadikim warn what will happen to her. Upstairs.
Meaning, she will be going Downstairs….
May 2, 2017 9:39 pm at 9:39 pm in reply to: Tzniusness of Transparent Bubble Umbrellas 🗨️⛱️ #1268843ExcellenceParticipantHmmm… very well.
ExcellenceParticipantThere is only one book you need.
5 Great Lives. An Artcroll book. Read the stories, and you will have all the inspiration you need.
Indeed, read the biographies…
Reb Boruch Ber
Brisker Rav vol 1
Baba Sali
All for the Boss
Reb Moshe (Feinstein)
House of RizhinExcellenceParticipantDepends on your previous life….
If you were not up to scratch, the accusing angels interfere in your meeting your match next life. You need a lot of mercy. Torah learning does nothing. Anyone can read a book.
You need to read the books of the Chofetz Chaim. Be smart.
If you don’t badmouth anyone, THEY Above are not allowed to open their mouths to speak ill of you.
And you need to impress the Court. Either a LOT of good deeds, which is nearly impossible to do secretly nowadays. Or keeping SILENT when someone verbally attacks you publically.
Read the sifrei mussar — you don’t know what silence does for YOU when you don’t counter back.
Unfortunately, inn your hot tempered, fast paced, American culture… you don’t find that easy.
ExcellenceParticipantThere is no custom. Never seen one.
Sounds like a church custom to me. They throw rice. And drink a lot of booze too…
I suggest you read Geder Olam by the Chofetz Chaim. It’s a small book. One part is proper conduct in a Jewish wedding — and the severe punishment awaiting anyone who does mixed dancing, watches it, even with your wife.
ExcellenceParticipantThe Metsudah Tanach is excellent. Unlike the Artscroll which completely changes the names of people, cities and places, the Metsudah is a real translation. It also has a translated Rashi.
Unfortunately, it is only the Early Prophets… 🙁
Unless we can petition the editors to also publish the Late Prophets too!
ExcellenceParticipantLilmod… I live in Australia. We have one or two stores here. No more. They can’t get most of the books I want so I am forced to acquire them from overseas. I am very aquainted with the who and what. There are extremely few stores that don’t sell womens’ tallisim.
ExcellenceParticipantI thought to keep this in the Talmudic thread here… What do people think of the Koren version? Feedback?
ExcellenceParticipantI am revolted just looking at them. All colourful and silky. I have quietly resolved not to buy any seforim from a Judaica store that sells womens’ tallisim. Which has severely limited the stores I can buy from now.
It’s like a man wearing a dress.
ExcellenceParticipantLets look at the score board… The government of the tyrant Alexander Yannai and mass murderer Herod killed almost every rabbi. The fool King Ahaz tried to erase all Torah learning. I can give many more example if you want.
This Israeli government protects its Jews. It’s a thumbs-up from me.
ExcellenceParticipantAdding my two dinarim…
One, nothing happens without permission and approval from Heaven.
Two, should we continue to live at the mercy of the peasants of eastern europe? Read the real life accounts of the biographies – we were at their mercy every month.
ExcellenceParticipantIf I may say, I am disgusted at the amount of Judaica stores selling women’s tallis. I would say over 80 percent of world wide judaica stores sell them. Abominable.
ExcellenceParticipantAs a mashgiach, I can say just because a product has a recognised hechsher does not mean it is so kosher. I can only talk from local experience at my end. But it all depends on the supervisionary level – onsite mashgiach, or casual kashrut office inspection, and even personal practices. I want to say more but whats the point…
ExcellenceParticipantSays who, Time for Truth? What a load of cupcake mix. True, those of understanding know the Midrash is more than it seems. But there is nothing errorenous with translating that. Perhaps a book like Walking in Fire should not have been published… Midrash? It is the fireplace of the Jewish soul.
February 3, 2017 6:29 am at 6:29 am in reply to: Jews should not care whether the American embassy is in Jerusalem or Tel Aviv #1213743ExcellenceParticipantBecareful what you say…
Your understanding of Shimson “sinning” is superficial and pshat. I already said, Shimshon was doing something mystical. In fact, he was nullifying the Plishtim in a way you don’t understand.
As for Yiftach being a simple man… I’m not even going to waste time refuting you. Those of understanding know the Talmud is but a roadsign to a deeper map. Yiftach a”h was anything but shallow. His soul root alone is high level and intricate.
January 30, 2017 12:22 am at 12:22 am in reply to: Jews should not care whether the American embassy is in Jerusalem or Tel Aviv #1213738ExcellenceParticipantlesschumras… some Shoftim from the Tanach were deeply flawed, you said?
You couldn’t be more wrong. From the books of the mukabolim I have read, the Judges were deep in Torah knowledge and the Torah nistar. All the actions you read about had deeper mystical significance.
You just don’t know because you haven’t read the seforim on them. What Shimson alone was doing mystically in his actions was amazing…!
Do not underestimate Sefer Shoftim or Sefer Shmuel – there is vast depth beneath their surface. It is just not permitted to write about openly.
ExcellenceParticipantI have emailed them all year. I get “soon” answers. I’d just like to know roughly when the smaller Midrash Rabbah can be expected to be published. I am eager to learn the Midrash. I don’t know why they would have made them big heavy Talmud Bavli size to begin with…
ExcellenceParticipantIt’s pary of israeli tabouli salad
ExcellenceParticipantCheck for shatnez – no matter what!!
ExcellenceParticipantI’d never have guessed that. Pipework.
ExcellenceParticipantIn my Excellence Opinion… Biographies!
Brisker Rav, or Reb Boruch Ber, or Chofetz Chaim, or House of Ruzhin, or Reb Moshe Feinstein… and more. Relaxing, mussar learning, inspiring.
ExcellenceParticipantI don’t have a clue what the opening post was about. Can someone app me an elucidation?
Belay that… Second thought, I don’t really give a Aramean parev strudel. My life must have better meaning than this.
ExcellenceParticipantKappara for the next world.
ExcellenceParticipantIt wouldn’t be fair to have them shlep so many book for me. Plus luggage weight. And I would pay them because I wouldn’t take a free service, so might as well buy them myself.
ExcellenceParticipantI did not know about this. You made me upset knowing they were abused like that. I don’t care if it’s pointless to be upset 120yrs later. I still am…. I want the Jewish ladies avenged for this. I want those russian dogs punished without rest.
ExcellenceParticipantI’ve been orthodox since I was 12yo. This day means nothing to me. In my Excellence Opinion, it was bothersome to have my schedule changed to accommodate the extra activities. I wanted to learn Rabbi Alshich on Avos with my friends.1`
ExcellenceParticipantI’m not addicted to this forum. I only post when I need information I can’t find on my own. I have a life outside here.
ExcellenceParticipantMay Hashem take vengeance on the souls of those Russian brutes, that they should have no rest even today. May they at least continually incarnate as dogs in countries that abuse them.
ExcellenceParticipantI know, I was just saying. Unfortunately, I’ve seen it happen to people. His wife suddenly turned on him with false accusations. Later it was discovered that her friend was whispering in her ear, so she could get rid of the husband and carry her fetus, because said friend kept losing her own babies.
On another occasion it was to get rid of the husband so the relative – yemach shema – could have more inheritance from the wealthy father inlaw.
I feel it is important to marry a wife who is strong minded, intelligence, mature, discerning. I would not marry just anyone vacuous headed woman. Not when I have seen about 5 marriages around me end after one or two years. I don’t care that I am getting older and am still alone. I wont compromise my standard.
It’s hideous that people don’t take it seriously.
ExcellenceParticipantChassidim laugh at such edicts. No one tells us how to yiddishkeit our yidden.
I know of one woman, a recent widow unfortunately with lots of kids ayin hara, who cuts her head extremely short. I was startled the first time I saw her in a hat instead of her usual sheitel. It was a short as a man’s!
In my Excellence Opinion, utter nonsense. A lady should not need to cut so much. She won’t look like a woman any more. Perfectly fine to have longer hair. Just cover it with a mitpachat thing. Why such extremes?
ExcellenceParticipantI get a bit bemused when the hot water urn somehow dried out over Shabbos night and people rumble when they come to shule and can’t have a coffee or tea in the morning. Now, that is an addiction. Challila! No coffee! Gevalt!
ExcellenceParticipantJust to point out I live in Australia, so asking in person is not possible. I realised that the exchange rate with Canada is very close t Australia. I figured if I can find a good Canadian seforim store I don’t have to pay triple for a sefer from the US.
ExcellenceParticipantThe question is vague. You’ll need to supply more data like m/f and what the issue was, if you want random and complete strangers to give you advice on an imperative and strategic life changing decision of your life.
ExcellenceParticipantI would not risk my marriage on such thin ice. Such a wife could turn on you at any moment. They make for dangerous inlaws too. Unfortunately, I’ve seen it before.
ExcellenceParticipantCoffee is drugs.
Drink it you are relaxed. Can’t have it, you become moody and short tempered. Body is addicted to it like smoking.
Only a billion fools drink it a day, is it not officially a declared drug. But in the Excellence Opinion it sure is.
ExcellenceParticipantSeforim Warehouse is listed as closed down and doesn’t even have an email.
Miriam’s did not seem to have much book variety.
ExcellenceParticipantThat’s one. Anyone else?
ExcellenceParticipantI stopped watching tv about 5yrs ago. Don’t regret it.
I don’t want to see ads for shaving women’s legs — and more than that — yes you heard me. Foul language. Bitul Torah
ExcellenceParticipantMishneh Torah & Mishna Kodashim.
ExcellenceParticipantI have not read my edition of the Zohar. It is beyond me. I know when to open a book, and when not to. There are other mystical books I can read.
ExcellenceParticipantI read a frightening story of the Chofetz Chaim about a destitute man who tried to pray for more $$….
ExcellenceParticipantHeaven sets your yearly and daily income. Technically, the more children you have the more parnasathey send down…
ExcellenceParticipantThis is very upsetting to know. The yetser h has myriad of agents in the world. All one can do is say a capital Tehillim with the intention of helping the victims. And at the end of the day, one day more is one day closer to his annihilation and we’ll be walking on his ashes.
This story reminds me of something the Ruhziner Rebbe and Rebbe Elimelech said. That the children abducted into the Russian army from the mid-1800s — the Cantonists — were the souls of the fanatics that burned the food supplies of Yerushalayim when fighting the romans. Knowing they would be forced to convert and eat treif and break the Torah was anguish to their souls.
Could this be a similar case?
ExcellenceParticipantWhat about the Tishby edition?
ExcellenceParticipantAlso Tehillim 6, 30, 142 is said to be good for health.
ExcellenceParticipantThe Rimanover Rebbe said reading the Aggada, Menoras Hamaor, heals the soul. And if there is something wrong with the soul, it affects the body. I would also advise one of the relatives to read a few pages near the person, because I also read a parent’s prayer for their unwell child is particularly heard Above.
September 19, 2016 7:11 am at 7:11 am in reply to: Controversy In Israel – Woman says Sheva Brachos #1180942ExcellenceParticipantActually, if I am getting fired up like that, it’s an indicator I need to do more acts of kindness, according to Likutei Moharan 100 and masechta Berachos. When Torah knowledge overbalances gemilus chassadim, it’s time to stock up on the latter.
September 19, 2016 1:41 am at 1:41 am in reply to: Controversy In Israel – Woman says Sheva Brachos #1180940ExcellenceParticipant*Smiles* No offence taken. I’m an easy going person.
ExcellenceParticipantThe Vilna Gaon wrote many books on trigonometry, maths astronomy and other stuff. A grandson published a some. And Rabbi Yitzchak of Acco 700yrs said the world was DATED AT 15 billion years – same as scientists now. And Rabbi Zacuto invented the boat compass.
What would the world be without Jewish people?
ExcellenceParticipantI care nothing about Israeli politics. I don’t know what a Likud or Karta is. Never been on a plane either, though that has little relevance to the matter.
What matters is that America and England are ok with men holding hands. Babylonian society was said to be like that.
