Kosher World in Far Rockaway – depends on where you live in FR, but it is possible to walk there. Also, KW delivers. Brach’s in the Five Towns also delivers, I believe. But probably no deliveries on Erev Shabbos.
Yes, there are buses, but it’s a schlep, and again, depends on where you live in FR. But at the same time, there are buses – you can get to Brooklyn or Queens, and even into the Five Towns.

In honor of Rav A. Miller zt”l’s 10th yahrtzeit which is tonight (Motza’ay Shabbos) – one of the 10 steps to greatness – when you see a face, THINK, “I see the image of HaShem” (tzelem Elokim)
emlfMemberMay HaShem shower you with berocha, may your mother and grandmother have a refuah shelaima . . . Thank you for opening our eyes.

emlfMemberD’vekus – lama lenetzach – almost every time I listen to it, I cry.
Shalsheles – Esa ainai
of course, there are many others that are also excellent. These two are among my favorites.
April 28, 2011 4:01 am at 4:01 am in reply to: Today 4 adar is Rav Avrohom Blumenkrantz`s Yahrtzeit Any good stories #762071emlfMemberRav Blumenkrantz zt”l was a true tzadik. He was sooo patient. Years back, a relative of mine found out that her oven was treif. Rav Blumenkrantz spent much time with her on the phone helping her to kasher her oven. I spoke to him a few times – once in person! – and boruch HaShem had the zechus to personally benefit from his chochmas haTorah, wisdom, kindness . . . .
emlfMemberWhat is it?
emlfMemberWhat is your point?
emlfMemberRelated questions:
1. How do you encourage the children to share their divrai Torah?
2. If you have a lot of children who want to share, how do you balance things out so that everyone has a chance to speak and that they don’t all say (steal?) the same divrai Torah?

emlfMemberHave you forgotten – 8 days of Pesach in Chutz La’aretz?!
emlfMemberMorah Reyna: amar oyaiv erdof asig achalaik (Az Yashir) – I heard this one before.
Shticky: mon fell on 16 Iyor, so they ate matza from 15 Nison to 16 Iyor.
This isn’t a riddle, but rather knowledge. There seem to be two opinions as to the identity of the boy that Elisha brought back to life (the son of the Isha HaShunamis). Any idea who it could be? Hint: either one is a novi.
Name a person with the same name as a city in Eretz Yisroel.
emlfMemberMay you be zocha to much good – and may you see that it’s good (as a friend of mine always says). Hatzlocha raba.
emlfMemberSee Igros Moshe re cheating on Regents exams and apply to the first posting in this thread.
I really hope you don’t do such things!
Something that doesn’t hurt anyone is one thing. The story goes that one year the girls strung up fishing line from the ceiling and attached funny hats to the fishing lines. So, when the teacher walked in, the girls were wearing the hats – and when they sat down, the hats remained hanging.
That doesn’t hurt anyone. But a lot of the other pranks are really wrong, immature, mean, cruel, etc. etc. etc. etc.
(Just a side note – if you ever heard of game, Truth or Dare, I think it’s a similar concept of something that is terribly mean.)
emlfMemberFeldheim recently came out with the English version of Rav Pincus’s sefer, Nefesh Chaya – speaks about the Jewish woman. I haven’t read it, but from the description I saw of it, the sefer might prove useful. Hatzlocha.
emlfMemberWhat to tell people? How about, “let’s garner zechus for Klal Yisroel and refrain from talking during davening!” “Though we don’t have the Bais HaMikdosh, the shul is a mikdosh me’at, and it’s our job to treat it respectfully.” “It’s hard to fully grasp it, but a shul is a special place, so let’s refrain from speaking.” Etc.
Chochma bagoyim ta’amin: Dale Carnegie in How to Win Friends and Influence People wrote that one of the ways to correct people is to begin by talking about your own faults. So how about, “Not talking in shul is a nisayon for me, too – maybe we can work on it together?” ETc. Take the idea and “run” with it.
Rabbi Yisroel Reisman shlit”a, in one of his recent Motza’ay Shabbos shiurim, spoke about the kovod one must accord a shul/bais medrosh . . .
emlfMemberIt seems that you said it rather well.
Of course, the idea is not only to not disturb YOU (sorry, no italics) from tefilla, but not to speak in a shul because it’s a lack of yiras Shomayim, etc. (Plus it disturbs EVERYONE.) I’m not saying it should have been said like this, but at least in retrospect we should realize this.
I know that the story happened during Ma’ariv, but a point to note: Rav Pincus zt”l in She’arim B’Tefila writes of the extreme importance of chazoras hasha”tz. I most certainly have to work on my appreciation and concentration, etc. – but to talk during chazoras hasha”tz?! You (not you the blogger, but you the talker) can’t wait five minutes at least? Again, not something you can necessarily say, but the idea is there.
emlfMemberI know of a girl who put in effort to make herself look appropriate – more than usual. The fellow, who was coming in from middle of the USA, ended up showing up at least two hours later than intended. Okay, understandable. Why didn’t he think ahead and take a nap at least or something so he wouldn’t have been tired out? The shadchon told the girl that, in a nutshell, she wasn’t attractive enough!
There are mitigating factors here for the boy’s side – but at the same time, to stop after going out once in such a circumstance . . .
emlfMemberI’m surprised. Is Bais Yaakov in BP closing?
I went there five years ago and had a very good year. There was a big mixture – Litvish, Chasidish, Sefardi, from all different places.
One point – enjoy the seminary year. I wish I could be in seminary again . . .
