I have a Psy.D. degree, and am licensed in my state as a psychologist.

In my state, MSWs and masters level people can also get licensed. I have obsved that almost no Psychiatrists do therapy anymore. They only really on medication.

I have also observed that most of the masters level clinicians, both MSW and LMHC/LMFT are not as rigorously trained as my doctoral level colleagues. Yes, it took me longer and it was more expensive than an MSW, but, I understand more and various theoretical models than masters level trained clinicians and I feel I got better training. I am making these strong statements because in this thread I saw comments about doctoral level training which I feel are inaccurate.

So, is throwing eggs on a car from your balcony the way to demonstrate derech eretz? It is a waste of food, bad manners and childish. Someone else’s bad behavior does not justify your bad behavior.

I am a psychologist and I often use ideas from Pirkei Avot with both Jewish and Non Jewish patients. I also use ideas from Zen Buddhism and other religions to help people. I have worked with Muslims, Frum Jews, Christians of various sorts, and no one has ever left their religion because of therapy. I fact, no matter what religion a patient is, I harness their own faith to help them grow. That comment made by the woman in this thread who did medical billing about psychologists being crazy is silly and foolish and is it’s own form of ???? ??? The fact is that listening to people’s ???? tzoros all day long has made me more tolerant, understanding and accepting of people. It has taught me greatest patience. To address what the original poster said, Yes, psychology helps and yes, Psychologists can help you. If you would like to discuss this further or want help in finding a psychologist who is respectful of religion and Judaism, we can talk further, perhaps start a new thread.

Have you ever listened to klezmer music? Do you think that music is ordained by G-d?

recently, I read a book on Jewish music from Eastern Europe that showed that Jewish musicians often played at Ukrainian non Jewish weddings, and that non Jew Musicians would play at Jewish weddings. Listen to klezmer music and you can hear the Turkish, Slavic and other musical influences. A Jew can listen to Mozart and Beethoven and even to Miles Davis and not be at risk of eating pork.

    This is true.

When I was growing up, my mother would take me to this store in Williamsburg, before it became gentrified, to buy children’s clothing. We lived in another part of Brooklyn. so one day, my mother gets curious and asks the shop owner, whose, despite being a Chassid, how a Jew got the name Sean Fergusson. yes, his name was Sean Fergusson. He said, that when he was on line at Ellis Island, he got really nervous as he approached the uniform clerk, he lost his voice from being so nervous, so when the immigration official asked, “Jew! What is your name?” The Chassid said he answered in Yiddish, “shoyn Fergesen”. (I forget)

The non Jewish official hear, Shawn Fergusson and that is what he wrote down. So, to this day, that is his name.

    Chance:

Autism and ADD are NOT man made diseases.

All the medical and psychological research indicates a genetic basis for both.

ADD and Diabetes have something in common. Although both have a genetic basis, their symptoms can be ameliorated through behavioral and environmental factors. Certain diseases involve a genetic proclivity or susceptivity, which in the presence of environmental factor result in the disease. For example, if someone with the genetic predisposition to diabetes ex revises, eats properly and monitors his health, he is unlikely to develop diabetes. Although ADD is genetic, that does not mean that a child or adult for that matter, cannot learn to develop focus.

Further, the idea that autism is caused by vaccinations has been disproven over and over again. Vaccinations have made polio and measles and many other diseases dissappear.
