I’ll take water – it’s free:)
eclipseMemberSounds good to me, but a coffee shop in Cedarhurst is a lot easier:)
eclipseMemberCelia: If you put ON your glasses you’ll see the applesauce was in front of you the whole time… Wait, your glasses are IN the applesauce. When are you going to get yourself together?? Never mind-it’s MY glasses. I can’t see through applesauce…okay, clear now. Someone get him more applesauce, my glasses have aluminum in them.
eclipseMemberWomen in a large group sometimes have parallel conversations that sound similar to the above.
eclipseMemberLearning the halochos of shmiras haloshon is essential. In my case, crucial facts WERE WITHHELD,(that alone doesn’t ruin everything, but it sure doesn’t help) and in other cases, nasty gossip is relayed unnecessarily. Gossip ruins a shidduch from going further, and withholding essential info. can ruin a marriage.
eclipseMemberAlex, I would love to continue but it’s my “hour” not to speak loshon hora, so I will tell you over mashed potatoes at lunch.
eclipseMember“continue to ruin me”? Please explain why you are “stuck” in a seemingly negative situation. Has nothing improved? Have you nowhere to turn for support?
eclipseMemberI was at a wedding last year, where a popular singer/one-man-band actually kept the music contemporary YET: the decibel level was so pleasant. No one had to go home half-deaf,and totally hoarse. Totally lively, without the insanity! I hesitate to mention names, because someone may feel otherwise, so just “shop around” by word of mouth, and mazel tov!!
eclipseMemberjf; what exactly are you saying?
eclipseMemberActually? Normal and well-balanced is good enough. And kind. Oh and honest. Neat and clean would be great. And funny, a real bonus. Just in case you wanted to know.
eclipseMemberA modest city slicker or a somewhat educated country boy is fine with me. Unless it cannot be?
eclipseMemberLikud: language change doesn’t help much…Mods?
eclipseMemberAlex, you must breathe between sentences, or you will need oxygen!
And the college thing….honestly it’s your call. Is your grandson likely to succeed? It’s more about if you want to do it for HIM.
eclipseMemberLev: I had a brother who was 100% normal, the cream of the crop, who became a completely different person, thanks to drugs. We are lucky he is alive, but the real him is not really alive, so….careful with these matters, as it is a frightening situation indeed.
eclipseMemberPeople who make a “tanoiim” by the “vort” hold it’s a serious thing to breach, and I don’t know more than that about THAT. I do know how awful a bad marriage and divorce can be though, so if you KNOW it’s gonna be a disaster, break it off!
eclipseMemberModerator: Ahem. Celia, what’s going on? What are you doing with my notepad? And gentlemen, this week’s fundraiser is up to you. What kind of treadmill do you want to buy? And how will you raise the money?
eclipseMemberOf course. I passed along several jobs that weren’t for me to others, and others have recommended me for jobs which I gladly accepted. Is this what you meant? Or online networking?
eclipseMemberCelia: Little boy, I hope you brushed your teeth, or you’re gonna end up with a dentist’s Purim project, like me. Gentlemen, we ladies want to know if you agree to purchasing a new treadmill for the recreation room. Popa? Alex? Keep in mind, there will be mandated speed limits, and rubber tires on either side for the reckless ones.
eclipseMemberLove what you do, and you’ll never work a day in your life.
eclipseMemberI’m Celia, who likes to keep things moving efficiently,no matter what.
Celia: My teeth are in. Let’s begin. When the moderator gets here,we’ll fill her in on what she missed.
eclipseMemberThank you, Mods!
eclipseMemberTova Mentoring in Far Rock has a Big Sister program. Or you can drive people to and from hospital appts – Bikur Cholim.
eclipseMemberThanks MDD. Are you from Baltimore MD?
eclipseMemberThank you sweet oomis!
eclipseMemberCertain words just sound worse than others. My mother had “it”, and although the entire community was davening for her, the word “cancer” was not bandied about, more like, not well, needs a refuah etc.(She passed away at 50 r”l)
As a divorcee, I much prefer “single mom”, and instead of “my ex”, I’d rather say “the children’s father”,it’s hard to explain, just that words have harsher and softer sounds.
On the topic of “yene machla”, I am approaching my mom’s age (a few years away), so I will accept all blessings to live a long and healthy life!
eclipseMemberIt’s hard to be inspired by a fabricated hashgacha protis story, because it didn’t actually happen!
I think he specifies in each preface which are true.
eclipseMemberIt’s best to “err on the side of caution”…
Haleivi, I have a friend who is literally traumatized from the CR.
You are right, people need to remember there are real people behind the faceless usernames.
August 21, 2013 1:56 pm at 1:56 pm in reply to: 1000 Questions before Marriage Book helped couple #971918eclipseMemberWow. Is it a Jewish book? Who is the author? Now if my post goes up after 20 replies, let me clarify that right now I only see ChallaMom’s post:)
eclipseMemberyehudayona: I just realized you weren’t kidding! How did I read “blood pressure” there I will never know:)
eclipseMemberSyag, and Haleivi: I posted BEFORE seeing either one of your posts! It’s hard to control “post placement” on this site as you know! I actually like what you both said. Syag, we said similar things, and Haleivi, your words should be a “quotable quote”: A wheel is like our life. It seems to turn around in its place, but it gets you further. Every day is basically similar to the one before it, but it is supposed to get you further. It’s great!
Popa and yehudayona, great humor to balance things out:)
Oh Shreck;I always tell people I’d rather have the uncomfortable feeling of knowing I must improve in something, than the content self-satisfaction that PREVENTS teshuvah.
eclipseMemberSyag, you’re right, sometimes I need to be saved from my own ideas!
Mod-42,thanks!:)
eclipseMemberAre you sure you want everyone (else) to be “mifashfesh”(?) in your maasim?
It’s personal, and not everything is necessarily an onesh ; sometimes it’s just a new-and-improved test for our midos.
Personally, whenever I “save time” davening-wise, I inevitably lose that time elsewhere in my day.But that’s just me, not saying it applies to anyone else.
eclipseMemberworkingirl: What do you ENJOY doing? Can you plan for it in your schedule tomorrow?
Oh Shreck: Maybe her live friends are already asleep. And while I agree that virtual friendship is only a “temporary fix”, so is a soothing cup of hot cocoa, so it is worth something.
eclipseMemberIf the Mods agree you can give them the info and I can forward my sis resume.
eclipseMemberCool!(EclipseOldHag)
eclipseMemberLev: Saw your post after I posted…I think better someone who has some experience with kids,no? But I have sisters still single, maybe for them?
eclipseMemberLev: your post was not up when I posted!!I’m not the “ignoring type”.
eclipseMembersharp, I dedicated a “final rap” to the above,I thought it was funny, but I guess it was a bit TOO authentic! (Mods, thanks,I get it!)
eclipseMemberOh Shreck! That was beautiful!
T.A.O.M. Thank you!
eclipseMemberI was at a chuppah with a mechitzah, I just can’t remember which shul (maybe the bsmt of Young Israel) but I can’t remember which side they (Chosson and Kallah) walked down on.
August 20, 2013 3:29 am at 3:29 am in reply to: Place to get affordable, tzniusdik clothes for young girl #1055977eclipseMemberShells are either cotton or (mostly?)lycra. Lycra dressier, cotton cooler. Some of the styles in random goyish stores are made pretty cheaply, but Kohl’s and Children’s Place offer quality clothing. I am told Nordstrom, Land’s End, and others are great too, but usually expensive.
eclipseMemberI’m not looking too actively, but I was wondering.
eclipseMembermisogyny is what?
eclipseMemberLev: I’m not personally offended, but thanks. I guess I’ve said as much as I could say on this topic – if not too much – so to all posters on this thread: Let’s respectfully agree to agree/disagree, that’s all:)
eclipseMemberthank you, Oomis:)
eclipseMemberPlease make up your mind, Toi!:)
eclipseMemberWhere there’s smoke there’s fire….or a stink bomb. And you never know who lit the match.
eclipseMemberLevAryeh(and all those who agree with the above statement): “iffy”? Maybe the person with an agenda, arranging for the person to be arrested on false charges is the “iffy” one??
Take it from me. The only ones who KNOW there was foul play are the cops and the D.A.’s office.
Few neighbors/press agents (whatever the case may be) ever bother to find out the truth.
It happened to me a few years ago, I will never totally forget that traumatic experience as long as I live, and as a result: I NEVER BELIEVE LOSHON HORA ABOUT ANYONE, no matter how “reliable” the source. I am the last person to whom anyone dares to gossip frivolously!
eclipseMemberBUT I don’t think black rappers use ANY of the above “rules”, by the way. They use one language, and lots of syllables (granted).
eclipseMemberShe?? Don’t know how that got in there.
