I’ve had guests that broke chairs due to weight….I felt sincere compassion for their shame and told both of them “the chair was broken anyway” or something to that effect.

I was publicly shamed in the past as well, but never stooped to revenge, and b”h, these memories become blurrier over time. The embarrassment will never completely disappear, but look at it this way: we can’t get gehinnom twice, so hopefully, we were yotzay!
