allsgr8- i dont think you have to get an appointment to try out the omnipod dummy. if you can get through to the D educator they should be able to get a dummy right away to try out.

it took 14 years of syringes to finally make the switch, and i don’t regret it.

reb- i davended for you anyway. hashem knows who you are (i daven for all D in general). also what do you do about your thyroid?

about the clogging the medtronic insertion that i have never gave me a problem. the cannula (the part that goes into you) goes in to you at a 90 degree angle, as apposed to others that go in on a slant which can cause kinking (clogging). also i have not had a problem with scarring

rebbitzen- the bagels are milchigs? or are they like ou-de.

i feel so bad for you. i will daven for you. i was going through myself the other day and i have issues from top to bottom, but i remembered that it’s the challenges that we overcome that makes us great (just like by avraham avinu), and it sounds like you are doing great. keep up the good work.

allsgr8- if you really want to, try out the omnipod at the dr. office. they have fake ones that you can attach to yourself to see how it feels.

whatever you do, you will see that you can be much more in control, and that makes you feel great.

reb- going back to the celiac, my daughter is 5 and trying to find a bread the tastes good is almost impossible. i think i bought almost every type of bread even dr. goldmans almond bread (~$14.00) and i ended up eating it. the best ine yet is katz’s white bread, which sometines goes when toasted.

what’s with the thyroid? (it must be tough, i feel for you, my wife knows someone (12th grade)who also has thyroid issues)

cofeefan- if i’m high enough that i get keytones then high is worse. but otherwise i think low is worse

allsgr8- i got the pump about 4 years ago. i say that i am totaly more flexable but you are always connected to something, so sleeping i feel like i am in utero wrapped in an umbilical cord. hidding it can be a little more tricky but workable. it took me a while to get used to it.

i am on a medtronic pump and my kids are on animas. i find that the animas can deliver in smaller increments (1/40 of a unit),where the medronic delivers 1/20 of a unit.

however i go with the medronic because its simpler to use.

thank you all for the advice. i usually guess by looking at it and then check myself about three hours later and if i need i give myself a correction. however for my kids since they weigh a little less than me, so they are much more sensitive than i. if we measure a few carbs off they will be over 300. most of their foods are measured to the gram, so its pretty difficult to measure cholent. what we do is only give them the potatoes and weight them. 5 grams per ounce.our cholent doesn’t have barley, my daughter has ciliac (yes add it to the fun).

i can “go on and on and on…”, but the truth is its my wife who is the ceo of this club. it really had to do with that when i got D 18 years ago my family was behind me and i didn’t have to hide behind every pole to hide it. those who knew, knew, and i wasn’t restricted in anything (except for the fact that everybody had to taste my dietetic stuff).

and remember always, lifes your attitude

motivation determines what you do, attitude determines how you do it (in this case D wasn’t a choice)

anyways you guys are a great bunch, and you guys give me a lot of chizuk.

cofeefan- they said that it won’t be out soon. so hold on tight

rebbitzen- about the children i did hear that doctors can do blood test and see if thay possess those antibodies which causes D. if they do find it, thay say that there are things that they can do.(i dont know what it is)

cofeefan- the research team that was from israel, their pump name was called solo. they were working on using a resivior that was about about a 1/2 inch thick that could be detached from a patch that was on the skin. another cool thing they showed us was that they are trying to intergrate into one machine a pump and a cgm. it was pretty neat. otherwise the remote was pretty much the same as the omni.

cofeefan-you are right that whatever you have it might br knocked off. even with the madtronic i’ve pulled it out.

i was part of a research project for an israeli company that wants to have something similar to the omnipod but much thinner. it was pretty cool.

cofeefan- i am on a minimed, and my kids are both on animas. my daughter until now was on a borrowed pump fron the hospital because the insurance wont let her have a pump until she had D for six months. we just pasted that point and she is supposed to get her own pink pump today. since we are all wired up its harder to hide the pump. both of my kids have the pump in a waist belt and mine is in my pocket (wired through the elastic of an expandable waist). i thought of the omnipod but i am quite active which scares me that i will knock it out.

rebb- cofeefan has a good point. i am a Diabetic and my wife is not, and yet i have two kids who have D. (i only have two kids). but on the other hand its not so common. i know of other diabetics who have many kids and yet none of their kids have D.

when my second child was diagnosed someone asked if my wife has a recessive gene. did any of you hear of such a thing?

plony, sorry about that spelling error 🙂

i have a pump so its a litle harder to keep it away from the public eye, especially on shabbos when i wear it on my belt. do you have a pump or shots?

phony, yes everybody knows about my kids. for my five year old daughter we went to her class and explained it to them and told the kids that she can do everything that they can do, and that she needs the pump for medicine. we also had to explain to them that she can’t eat everything and that they can’t share snacks. this made things a lot easier for her, so that she doesn’t have to try to keep everything a secret. Most people didn’t know that i had D till my kids got it (not because i specifically tried to keep it a secret). now its harder to keep it a quiet, bec. everyone wants to know where it came from

cofeefan, about the dating issue i spoke to my rebbi about it and he advised me that at date three or four depending on how things are going. To tell you the truth i was a little nervous about it however i said to myself that the right one will be the one who will accept me as is(now she is managing three cases!). to tell you the truth not one girl who i had told said no because of the D. so dont worry.

allsgr8 at one point we offered Dr. k to take care of our two year old for the day. try getting a toddler to eat a specific amount of carbs every day and it should be the SAME FOOD EVERY DAY at the same time of day. (of course she declined!)

hi again, tralala guessed right. I am a male! When we got married, almost 7 yrs ago they told us it is not genetic. Now I don’t know what to believe. Still, it doesn’t seem so common for a diabetic parent to have 2 children with D

allsgr8- thanks, we are actually using Maimonidies now. But Dr. Jacobson left :(, then Neesha left 🙁 :(, we really relied on her amazing care. Wtih little kids, and having met Dr. K I just don’t think its a good shidduch.

cofeefan-I actually started out in Mount Sinai w/ Dr. Greg, and then Dr. Rapaport. But now with insurance….
