hi coffee – yes it does give me chizuk to give others chizuk. I also get to see other situations and learn from them. we actually went for shabbos to another family who has a child with “D” and the kids really got to know each other, it was a great experience.

jewish – it is sad to think that “D” is a problem. it is a condition that has to be taken care of, and if not then… I myself ever felt restricted from it, and B”H i am married with children. My wife is there for me and always there to help.

does anybody have the omnipod, i want to know wherea girl can wear the pod so that it does not show?

Also what do you do on shabbos about carrying the pdm?

Coffee – I am so happy for you and I am proud of you for trying your best.

I do know someone that went on a very low carb diet and ate a lot of protein (not too much because the side effect of protein breakdown is ketone bodies), and it really helped keep things under control. Also we do not want to have macrosomnia (a large baby) which is the result of a lot of sugar in the blood.

hope everything is well and i cant wait to hear the good news.

Lately we have been in touch with a few other families who have children recently diagnosed with “D”. I recently went down to the hospital to meet with a father of a newly diagnosed young child. It is so hard to see others suffer though it.

be well and get some rest.

hi everybody sorry i haven’t been on for a while.

sweet – mazel tov on the wedding. how was the week of sheva brachos with the numbers?

i know by my sheva berachas day and night was fused into one and i wasn’t on the pump yet (my wife made me get onto the pump).

exercising actually keeps me in range for a few days.

my son wants to always to be low so that he can drink juice. sometimes he wants me to retest him so that we can try to get a low number. lol

rosh – well good for you. i had the same attitude about the D and i am happy that i did.

we did ask about shabbos and we were told that we can do everything except changing the battery (makeh bepatish). we do try to make a shinu if we can but basically we do everything regular.

princess – i was in the 300’s today for most of the day. i am thinking of raising my carb ratio. what do you say?

hello Rosh! Welcome to our “exclusive” club. I am a father of two D kids. (I am also D) My daughter is in first grade and she is on the pump. Once the kids are on the pump they can do so much themselves. Tell the school to TRUST her. If she needs to call home.. but she will very soon be able to do so much herself because the pump calculates it all. It’ll also be 1000x easier for her if her friends know. They’ll get used to it and wont think twice. If its a secret it can be a real burden – it’s too much for the kids. Also do you know about ForWarD/ Rabbi Meisels’ organization.

    Coffee,Princess hi ppls! 😉

regarding shabbos the biggest change i will do is use my pinky instead of my thumb or pointer.

i have used the cgm for a little and then stopped because every time i pulled out the needle in the middle i had a geyser of blood coming out. furthermore after a day and a half it started to burn.

regarding the medtonic pump i love it because it is so much simpler to use and it does have an audio bolus that i use a lot.

whatever you choose csilver will be good. all the pumps basically work the same.

csilver – i have a medtronic pump and my kids have an animas pump. the medtronic does not have a database nor do they have a remote. however the animas does have a database but only in the meter not in the pump. the good thing is that the meter works as a remote. hope this helps

its 12:00 right now and BOTH of my kids are 47 HELP!!!!

Now that yom tov is over and the new zman starts tomorrow i hope to get ny numbers under control. i am now 259. i hope i do not have to take another a1c within 3 months.

gata go buy more juice we are going through it way too much.

    hi there everybody

i did it. i fasted the whole yom kippur. the only hard part was at night when i was in the 300’s and i felt like i was dehydrating until i got my # to about 180. my goal was to stay around the 180 mark. i basically did and in the end i ended the fast with a 122

    huuay for me

sorry i can’t post as often i am busy with getting into the school thing. you know all the schedules and stuff like that

    hi all,

    yoel- welcome aboard!!

first of all kudos to you for putting you thoughts into writting on this forum. your words are inspiring, keep up the good work. as you know life is challenging, yet you seem to be doing a wonderful job at it.

i really never fasted until recently, this is after about 15 years of trying to perfect my basal so that i shouldn’d go too high and dehydrate nor too low so that i should pass out.

(this yr tisha baav i didn’t make it) many times on yom kippur i have eaten and people have seen me. i usually tell them that it’s medical and i have to eat (even though I look perfectly “healthy”). (there is somebody where I daven who is hooked up on Iv the whole 26 hours of yom kippur every year). What i try to do, (if I have to eat) is to eat less that a kezayis, an olive size, (28grams) evey nine minutes (usually i wait a little longer). maybe ask the rav if you can use his room for privacy. remember that if you or me or anyone has to eat- it is a MITZVAH and that is our way of serving Hashem.

you are doing great and keep it up!

zen- wow. well good for you for getting things under control.

cofee- sorry to hear that you were rollercoasting. hope things are under control now.

I was doing well fasting until about 4:30 in the afternoon. About 2:30 I was 80 so i downgraded my basal. At 4:30 I was 64. too bad I had to break the fast. After eating and drinking I didn’t eat anything till the end. B”H no ketones.

    Princess- nice poem

Welcome zen3344- wow what a story. Are now considered type 1 and type 2 or are now only type1?

Well good for you for getting your life back in shape.

Sweet – that is an interesting thing to continue to eat meat. I do eat pasts and more pasta and more pasta….. But I measure one cup to be forty five cabs. Pizza is fifty a slice but I try to dual wave or combo bolus because of the fat.

Princess- I will try to hang in there. Thanks for the encouragement.

I don’t mind the milk part so much BUT my body doesn’t do to well with it. It’s a good thing that I like vegetables.

cofee- yeh you are right. i was famished after swimming and practically ate the cabinet too.

i did eat about 5-6 cookies bebore swimming but an hour later i was slightly low, and i felt shaky so i ate another 5-6 cookies. i ended up in the 200’s.

just cant get it right, but we worked it out in the end.

Trala- keep it up, I mean keep it down.

The truth is I didn’t really fast until I sort of perfected my basal rate. It really was because I tested every two hours on fasts that I was able to adjust my basal. If I was a little low I would suspend until it came up. So mostly on all fasts I try till chatzos, and on tisha b’av I try for the whole thing. On yom kippur I usually get through without eating. If I need to eat I eat less than the shuir every nine minutes. The past yom kippurs I did the whole thing but I felt the ketones after.

I finally went swimming this weekend so I tested before and I was 327. I gave myself a partial correction and ONE HOUR LATER I was 135 with a ton on board. Help!!

i fasted until minchah. after that i had a small breakfast/lunch with a lot of water. then had a small supper and ate with everybody else after the fast. i do the same by tisha be’av. i wait till at least after chatzos.

Princess- keep on taking the insulin and if you need add a drop more insulin helps you.

You are right for feeling how can you write here when there is a tragedy that went on. The past few days I have been out of control bec. this story made me sick. I am still trying to get over it. I was 64 today and an hour later after drinking almost two cups of juice I was 65!!!!!! I had a ton of insulin on board. I think I have to lower my carb ratio by one.

Tralala – I didn’t know that you wrote a second article. Can you send it to me (us). Thanks
