November 11, 2016 6:01 pm at 6:01 pm in reply to: Please post healthy filling and easy to make lunches for men #1191172dovrosenbaumParticipantI usually take leftovers from the night before.
Protein and fiber are what’s filling.
Think fish, whole whet pasta dishes, potatoes and eggs, chicken and potatoes, leftover burgers, etc.
dovrosenbaumParticipantI wasn’t raised in a religious home, as you’d understand it. I just couldn’t give it up. For people never raised with it, that’s a different story. I would not encourage anyone to go out and get it, due to the schmutz.
November 11, 2016 5:57 pm at 5:57 pm in reply to: Converting to Judaism, how do I explain to family about Xmas? #1193138dovrosenbaumParticipantI have family members that intermarried. They celebrate the 25th. We do get together. We have a bagel breakfast in the morning, we go to eat kosher Chinese food at night, we will go to a movie, etc. I asked my rav, and he said that it is actually a mitzvah for me to do this so that they can still feel as if the religious part of the family loves them and cares for them.To their credit, while the kids aren’t actually Jews al pi halacha, they love when we come. They come to shabbos meals by us and we have sedarim (we go to a communal seder together on the 2nd night), they usually come on CHM sukkos to have a meal in the sukkah together, we have chanukah together one night. Some of the kids, if there’s an interest, may get involved in Judaism and convert later on. We were told by our rav that this is praiseworthy.
In the case of Jesus, he was wicked because he was a false messiah, and he did horrible things. He cursed people, disrespected his mother, and called a Samaritan woman a dog.
dovrosenbaumParticipant1) He needs to stay true to his promises. A Trump administration should seek to reopen criminal investigations against Clinton and prosecute to the fullest extent of the law.
2) Recommendations for whom should be in the Cabinet
Chris Christie needs to be kept out. He has too many issues of his own with BridgeGate.
Sheriff David Clarke would make a great Homeland Security Head.
Rudy Giuliani as Attorney General.
Professor Carol Swain should be czar of urban affairs, and the black pastors who endorsed Trump should be part of HUD. Very important for there to be black leadership against BLM. Darryl Glenn, who ran for Senate in CO as a Republican, should be part of this effort to turn around our urban communities, as Trump has promised. Diamond and Silk, and Omarosa should be in the administration, too.
John Bolton as Secretary of State
Treasury: Jeb Hensarling
The 300 economists who warned against a Hillary presidency should be tapped to be part of the “brain trust” of economic advisers
Rabbi Lookstein should be offered an advisory position, as should Rav Bleich, and the roshei yeshiva who told their talmidim to vote for Trump. This would be a nice inclusive gesture. Along with some Orthodox rabbinic leaders, we know Dov Greenblatt, Michael Cohen, and David Friedman will be in charge of Israel policy.
Press Secretary: Hope Hicks
Interior: Sarah Palin
Commerce: Carl Icahn
Labor: Victoria Lipnic
Surgeon General: Ben Carson
Defense: Jeff Sessions
VA: Michael Flynn
Chief of Staff: Kellyanne Conway
Islamic Affairs: M. Zuhdi Jasser and Ayaan Hirsi Ali
November 11, 2016 4:07 am at 4:07 am in reply to: Converting to Judaism, how do I explain to family about Xmas? #1193128dovrosenbaumParticipantYeshu was a wicked person. See Gittin 57A in the Talmud.
Speak to an Orthodox rabbi about what is permissible for someone in your situation. Perhaps you could be with your family on December 25th and not participate in any religious observances. You need the guidance of a competent rabbi.
November 4, 2016 12:48 pm at 12:48 pm in reply to: Being asked if you're dressed up for Halloween #1189109dovrosenbaumParticipantRav Pam,xt”l, and I think also Rav Yaakov Kamenetzky, zt”l, gave candy out on October 31st. They, of course, did the right thing and had the right attitude.
When people ask me, I say that for religious reasons, I don’t celebrate it, but that we happily give candy to the children who come by. We turn off our lights, leave a bowl of candy outside, and let whoever wants to take, take. There’s nothing in halacha against being a good neighbor and a pleasant person.
dovrosenbaumParticipantHe’s going to win. How can anyone vote for someone under FBI investigation? It’s unprecedented and insane.
November 2, 2016 5:20 pm at 5:20 pm in reply to: He broke up and I don't understand why? Guys, can you explain this behavior? #1189476dovrosenbaumParticipantI know a rav who told a girl on a very high madreiga that she should marry a ger because she gets extra schar for having his children, cooking and cleaning for him, etc., but that if she fails to be a good wife, than she gets onesh.
November 2, 2016 3:18 pm at 3:18 pm in reply to: He broke up and I don't understand why? Guys, can you explain this behavior? #1189473dovrosenbaumParticipantI don’t know who either of you are, but this just wasn’t meant to be. Think of it this way, as a rachmanus. There’s a lo sa’aseh of innui hager. If you fail to honor a ger and love them and be kind to them, you’re being over on an issur d’oraisa. So if you married this guy, chances are that you would have had milchamos and you would have been over on this lo sa’aseh. So it was a rachmanus for you.
October 26, 2016 6:58 pm at 6:58 pm in reply to: How much do you spend on your lulav and esrog? #1187659dovrosenbaumParticipantI got an initial set for $15, including rings and the holder, on 13 Avenue.
I bought aravos for $3 a pack from the same vendor, and purchased 6 packs, since they dry out. Also paid $5 for hoshanos.
dovrosenbaumParticipantYom Kippur services in a Reform temple are maybe 2 hours, compared to 5-7 hours for a halachic davening.
I am not aware of any single Reform place with a morning minyan
dovrosenbaumParticipantI don’t think it’s among the better hechsherim, based on discussions I’ve had with people in the know.
dovrosenbaumParticipantDepends on what I’m eating. With deli, only Dr. Brown’s (not the best hechsher, but I allow myself).
With chopped liver- Cel-Ray
With pastrami- Cream soda
With corned beef- Black Cherry
With a burger- Coca Cola
With chulent- Mayim Chayim Cola
With tuna- Mayim Chayim Ginger Ale
With pizza- Sunkist Orange Soda
dovrosenbaumParticipantA country club that allowd Yidden in CT? Must not have been Danbury.
September 30, 2016 2:36 pm at 2:36 pm in reply to: Everyone Must Answer: What Is YOUR Favorite Dish (food) #1184498dovrosenbaumParticipantKishke and BBQ ribs
dovrosenbaumParticipantSee if you can get a referral from your doctor.
September 29, 2016 1:46 pm at 1:46 pm in reply to: School Administration overstepping bounds #1184553dovrosenbaumParticipantFrum yidden tend to largely be in each other’s business. A yenta or a budinsky will always have what to say.
dovrosenbaumParticipantThere’s a great shiur going on now in English on VaYoel Moshe, which hopefully, will be translated soon.
I even heard Rabbi Rakeffet of YU explain that even Tziyonim should learn this sefer.
dovrosenbaumParticipantIt’s inconsiderate to the shatz and the mispallelim, especially in a weekday minyan.
September 29, 2016 1:40 pm at 1:40 pm in reply to: Sending your kids to school is despicable #1184516dovrosenbaumParticipantI support homeschooling and private education 100%. Common Core must be defeated.
dovrosenbaumParticipantTrump for Emperor; Melania for Empress, Pepe the Frog for National Mascot
September 27, 2016 6:09 pm at 6:09 pm in reply to: Is Hillary too weak and fragile to survive the rigors of the presidency? #1190284dovrosenbaumParticipantOnline polls don’t seem to think Trump bombed, but I agree that it could have been so much better. Very disappointing.
He should not agree to any more debates.
dovrosenbaumParticipantThey don’t believe in Yoshke, Shabtai Zvi, Nosson mi’Aza, or any false messiahs. I don’t see why this is any worse than other sects. These kids’ parents decided that this is a good derech for them to be holding by.
September 27, 2016 2:23 pm at 2:23 pm in reply to: Cute or funny simanim for Rosh hashana :) #1184785dovrosenbaumParticipantYes, raisins have been an issue with infestation.
Celery has leaf miners.
September 27, 2016 12:56 pm at 12:56 pm in reply to: Cute or funny simanim for Rosh hashana :) #1184781dovrosenbaumParticipantIronic, since both of those have tolaim issues.
September 27, 2016 11:51 am at 11:51 am in reply to: Taking off for yomtov as Public School employee #1184049dovrosenbaumParticipantI know what the teacher unions and liberal curriculum and common core are all about. Teacher unions are an activist arm of the DNC. Sadly, too many Jews succumbed to communism and continue to replace yiddishkeit with socialism, bolshevism, and the like, r”l. Kiruv is needed to get them away from Killary and towards HKBH and Torah.
September 27, 2016 2:53 am at 2:53 am in reply to: Taking off for yomtov as Public School employee #1184047dovrosenbaumParticipantIf you think liberal, communist-infected government schools are so great, send your own kids there with a kosher bagged lunch and send them to hebrew school after.
September 26, 2016 5:08 pm at 5:08 pm in reply to: Taking off for yomtov as Public School employee #1184041dovrosenbaumParticipantSomething tells me that a frum teacher just doesn’t care about goyishe kids like they would care for unzerer.
September 26, 2016 11:59 am at 11:59 am in reply to: Taking off for yomtov as Public School employee #1184038dovrosenbaumParticipantI never understood why religious people would teach in public schools.
Public schools are full of pritzus, immorality, foul language/nivul peh, and ideals against torah abound, whether it be sex ed, evilution, homosexuality, trannies, etc. These non-Jewish kids don’t want to be taught by frum Jews. And by the same token, it’s kind of hypocritical to teach in schools you wouldn’t send your own kids to.
September 26, 2016 10:50 am at 10:50 am in reply to: talking to goyim about jewish religion #1183932dovrosenbaumParticipantYou should learn the halachos of teaching torah to a Non-Jew, and consult with a rav who knows these areas well.
dovrosenbaumParticipantBy your logic, there should be no lights in shul because we can’t manipulate them on Shabbos. Or I should only eat cold food during the week because on Shabbos, I can’t cook. Totally flawed logic.
dovrosenbaumParticipantWhat about people who use a siddur app? Don’t say they should use a physical book.
dovrosenbaumParticipantIt’s so thoughtless and selfish of them. They infect other people.
dovrosenbaumParticipantIf a person is killed because they are asked to renounce Judaism but refuse, or if it’s another yehareg v’al ya’avor situation, that’s dying al kiddush hashem. I’m not sure about other cases.
dovrosenbaumParticipantI liked Ben Carson and thought that him and Trump were very similar. Ben Carson is a chasid me’umos ha’olam, a devout man, a godly man, and a scholar and leader in his field, pediatric neurosurgery. He should run in 2024.
yehudayona sounds like a real dyed in the wool liberal. If you’re not for the GOP, you’re for Killary. It’s that cut and dry; there can be zero compromise on this issue. Carson didn’t lose the primary due to racism; he lost it due to the fact that he lacked the charisma and pizzazz of Trump.
There are dozens of African Americans involved in GOP efforts in inner cities. Ramona Johnson is running against Helene Weinstein for NYS Assembly. Here’s the case of a conservative, charismatic, and visionary African American woman running on the Republican line. She’s faced racism and discrimination from Sheepshead Bites and some Facebook groups because she throws a wrench in the commie liberal narrative that Republicans are old rich white guys. And yet, sadly, she’ll lose due to the racist narrative that undergirds white establishment progressivism (white liberals have nothing but condescension and veiled disdain for people of color), and NOT due to alleged racism in the GOP, the same party that freed the slaves.
dovrosenbaumParticipantYad L’AChim is for Jews who get caught up in non-Jewish religions, such as various Xtian missionary groups and the like (JFJ, Messianics, Mormons, JW, SDA, etc.)
Modern definitions of “cult” could easily include any religion where you ask the leader (rebbe) to know what to do for life decisions, where your diet and dress are strictly controlled, what you can read and watch is controlled, etc. We should be slow to throw that term at others.
September 22, 2016 3:40 pm at 3:40 pm in reply to: The Evil Crown Princess vs The Evil JESTER #1181166dovrosenbaumParticipantI think you’re out of your mind. There is nothing evil about Donald Trump, nor does he purport to be a jester.
I think you’re evil for casting aspersions on our Emperor. See Kiddushin 70a
dovrosenbaumParticipantA person doesn’t need to be a scholar in order to try to live a life of kedusha. These seem like simple people trying to live a life that is set apart, without negative influences.
dovrosenbaumParticipantHow dare you even compare Crooked Killary/Billary to our Emperor. Donald Trump is the last hope for this country. If Killary gets elected, we’ll be taken over by a coalition of radical Muslims, Black Lives Matter, and illegal Latinos.
dovrosenbaumParticipantYou can’t stop people from hating. Hate is as old as the world.
dovrosenbaumParticipantI don’t know why Jews are proud of being lazy bums. Welfare is associated with Harlem mostly, such a chillul HaShem
dovrosenbaumParticipantSeems like you didn’t read what I wrote.
I’m modeh that you need something in place for the disabled and the incapacitated, no doubt.
But there are scores of people on the dole who are bilking taxpayers. I bust my hump and pay taxes. I don’t rely on others.
Since when is being reliant on others Jewish? The Rambam says that self-sufficiency is the highest madreiga of tzedaka. We say in bentching that we shouldn’t come to rely on anyone else. And the gemara in Sanhedrin, chof vav, says that a moocher by the goyim is an ochel davar acher.
September 19, 2016 8:50 pm at 8:50 pm in reply to: Take the TV out of the Restaurant or we will shut you down #1181036dovrosenbaumParticipantPrivate hashgacha means that it’s not an agency, but a rav
dovrosenbaumParticipantGov’t interference was never good for us. Whether it be yeshivos being forced to teach secular studies, regulations on bris milah, etc. Nisht git.
September 19, 2016 3:53 pm at 3:53 pm in reply to: Take the TV out of the Restaurant or we will shut you down #1181031dovrosenbaumParticipantIf this place does not meet your standards, don’t go there. Keep your kids away from tumah and pritzus, if you’re so inclined.
I think the Star K has a policy against televisions in establishments, but I don’t know about others.
dovrosenbaumParticipantDon’t know Tishby
September 19, 2016 3:11 pm at 3:11 pm in reply to: Is Hillary too weak and fragile to survive the rigors of the presidency? #1190276dovrosenbaumParticipantAnd how high is your IQ, Huju?
Did you graduate from an Ivy League school like Mr. Trump?
dovrosenbaumParticipantPeople who mooch off government benefits are filthy to the core. I have long maintained that welfare must be done away with. If American citizens don’t want to work (people who are physically or mentally incapacitated shiould get disability benefits), time to send them out of the country, or to make them work for their pay.
dovrosenbaumParticipantPotato salad is good, preferably with meat of some kind.
