Walton: The mitzvah tantz is ancient minhag brought down in the seforim.

VM: The goyim based their entire religion from us. (Corrupted, of course.)

Yeah, yeah, tell it to the judge.

Be more afraid of the judge upstairs than the ones downstairs.

In fact, two speakers at the ’09 YC “Being Gay in the Orthodox World” event, made subtle references to the experiences with actual maisa of mishkav zochor.

We’re in golus. We can’t live the way we really should.

We should, at the very least, try our best to. And when we cant , we should, at least, protest to show we aren’t complacent about the wrongs.

If prominently identifiable YU institutions such as Einstein and Cordozo do terrible chillul Hashem, then it is entirely appropriate, if not required, to respond to such activities with criticism of “YU”.

I read the transcript from the YC gay event shortly after it occurred. It was not excusable, including what transpired verbatim. I’m almost sure I recall an openly “proud” student speaker at the event justified toeiva in veiled — yet easily understood — language. And the existence of the event itself — an open forum of that nature — gave legitimization to toeiva. In fact, even RIETS R”Y Rav Twersky very strongly criticized it in unbridled and unambiguous terms.

I never claimed to be a tzaddik or a talmid chacham. On the contrary, I have often claimed to be the very opposite of those things.

Of course, of course. From a massive anav such as yourself I would expect no less. Virtually all our tzadikim never acknowledged it. And very many of the greatest of the greats actively denied it or even admitted to being something else. (There is even, at least, one famous story of that effect.)

Mods: Can you please change Reb Wolf’s subtitle to “Lamed Vov & Humongous Anav”, please?

I would have thought that to be obvious.

    The Wolf

For a tzadik and talmid chochom like yourself, many things that us pashute yidden still need reminders and pointing out, is obvious. Many of us hope to one day reach your level of clear thinking and constant concern for halachic compliance.

“Correct. When we say “YU”, we should all say “YC” instead. Would making that technical correction make such a difference to you? Everyone knows that when we say “YU” we mean YC anyway.”

Sam: So you should have no objection in the world with all the criticisms in the world against YU. As long as the criticism against YU for all the terrible things they engage in is not being leveled against YC or RIETS, you admittedly agree there is no motzei shem ra against RIETS.

BTW, the terrible YU Tolerance Club 2009 public meeting for gays hosted at the Wurzweiler School of Social Work, and presided over by Rabbi Blau, was a function of — and held in the faculties of — YC itself. And it had hundreds of students, graduates and faculty attending that they had to turn some attendees away, since the building could not support such a large crowd.

Stop splitting hairs, Sam2. Everyone knows Einstein and Cardozo are an integral part of YU. Yeshiva University’s name is prominently displayed anywhere Einstein and Cardozo is mentioned. Even our own Charlie Hall, who everyone here simply knows is YU faculty, is actually Einstein faculty.

Imagine BMG had a subsidiary side-business that distributed TV’s as a promotion? It would be completely unimaginable. Even if it was run under a different name and was a small subsidiary. And that idea, as bad as it is, wouldn’t be nearly as terrible as what YU does.

And lets not forget that YU is actually funding these gay groups! And that’s coming from your tuition dollars. Think about it.

Sara Scheneirer did NOT start Beis Yaakov’s to teach girls spelling or secular studies. They are only done due to government requirements. So it is done in the minimal way possible. Sara Scheneirer started Beis Yaakov to teach YIDDISHKEIT.

The Chasam Sofer clearly held from MBP. He once gave someone a heter to not do it due to extenuating circumstances. And as his talmid muvhik, the Maharam Schick, writes that was a one-time heter.

Besides, it does not cost more to skip the extra ingredient.

And if you still don’t like it, eat at home.

Feif: Don’t makeup a Chasam Sofer. He says nothing of that sort. You put those words in his mouth. He once gave someone a heter, due to extenuating circumstances, to not do it b’peh. It was only applicable to that situation, as the CS’s talmid muvhik, the Maharam Schick, writes.

Never admit anything. Talk as little as possible. This way you’ll have the best chances in court. Once you admit, it’s hard to fight in court.

HaKatan: Generally the Elter-Z’s and Elter-B’s, and their ancestors going back doros and doros, did have arranged marriages (whatever the mechanics were in arranging it.) And don’t be too confident that the young couple can do a better job in determining whether it would be a happy marriage than their parents can. It may very well be the reverse is the case.

I certainly see no logical reason to buy real jewelry if the fake jewelry looks the same and costs much less.

Resale? How often do you sell your jewelry, anyways? And, the fake didn’t cost you much to begin with, so you lost little even without reselling it.

Same with longevity. You’ll save much more even if you buy 10 fakes of the same real jewelry, that’ll last you as long as you need and cost far less.
