When I was attacked 10 years ago by three “Africen Americans” it didnt make the front page of the Daily News. In fact it wasnt even mentioned at all, do you know why? because it happens every day!!

Last week a kid who lives down the block rang our bell at 10:30pm collecting for a local tzedakah. Our baby who just fell asleep after crying for a long time woke up and cried again for the next two hours. I was about to call that org. to tell them to teach some basic rules for the kids they send collecting but I was too upset to have that conversation without being disrespectfull.

A token amount should be given even without a certification, but if someone comes up to your home and makes you hear his entire life story expecting a larger amount then its reasonable to expect to see an endorsment of a rav or tzedakah org.

I think of myself as a good father, my kids love when I play with them, tell them stories, help them with their homework, take them to the grocery, but when they are down (hurt, not feeling well etc their first choice will be mommy.
On my job I’m never realy bored but sometimes things become run on and I get burned out and not very creative, when that happens its time to reorgenize and change some rutines.
Because when men do it its about “surviving” the afternoon without mommy.

The problem is not the idea of giving thanks to G-d, its all about the timing. Succas is called “Chag Ha’asif” the holiday when we thank G-d for the years crop. We don’t have a reason to do it when the pilgrims did.

How are you is an open ended question, you can be polite and say “fine, thanks” and thats the end of the “conversation” or you can become freindly and say “FINE, AND HOW ARE YOU?!

We all know the concept of giving away our own bed for a guest, but if the neighbor next door has an empty room to offer is it a mitzvah for us to sleep on the floor and give our bed away?

Actauly Tosfos in Kidusin had a hard time with the practice of picking a spouse for your very young child and went on to explain that the reason is because “kol yom hatzaros misgabros” meaning it was a dire situation that forced people to act in a non ideal way.
