☕ DaasYochid ☕Participant
Professional photos of the grandchildren, maybe a poster sized one.
☕ DaasYochid ☕ParticipantWhat would you recommend?
☕ DaasYochid ☕ParticipantDY: The first quote was more precise.
I assume you meant to address GAW.
☕ DaasYochid ☕ParticipantAccording to edit link removed this, it’s from a German folk song.
Why don’t you tell us the name of the german song, and then we can google it and listen to it.
Because I don’t know it (but I’ll try to look it up).
Found it.
The present melody for the ?anukkah hymn has been identified by Birnbaum as an adaptation from the old German folk-song “So weiss ich eins, dass mich erfreut, das pluemlein auff preiter heyde,”
☕ DaasYochid ☕Participantnitpicker, actually many many many chassidishe niggunim are based from old Eastern Eurpean military marches or songs. (From what I have heard)I actually wasn’t in their military.
There’s a difference between a secular melody and a religious one.
☕ DaasYochid ☕ParticipantHello99,
Could you post the basics (Gemaros, ikar Rishonim) here?
☕ DaasYochid ☕Participantparve yapchik
I thought by definition, yapchik was kugel with meat.
☕ DaasYochid ☕Participantis it a sort of new “cool” thing to daven without a siddur? I have never heard of that. Maybe its like being cool and showing off?
Some people concentrate better with their eyes closed.
☕ DaasYochid ☕ParticipantMoMoMB,
I basically agree with your understanding of the term, but not your comment that he hasn’t spent any time learning halacha. He obviously has.
☕ DaasYochid ☕ParticipantI found the term “?? ?????? ??????” in
???? ??? ????? ????? ?”?
???? ??? ????? ????? ?”?
There are, I’m sure, many more. Are these cases merely a ??????
☕ DaasYochid ☕ParticipantI always shut my phone off before performing bypass surgery.
☕ DaasYochid ☕ParticipantHello99,
But wouldn’t you agree, to answer her more recent question, that the CHZ”I would asser?
☕ DaasYochid ☕Participantyossi z.
Full name/mother’s name, if you don’t mind?
☕ DaasYochid ☕Participantso I have made an appointment with a foot doctor (chiropractor?) for next week, what till then?
Until then, try to see a podiatrist. 🙂
☕ DaasYochid ☕ParticipantHello99,
I managed to find the Pri Chadash inside, and he says that the karaim are considered the same as mechalelei Shabbos because they are mechalel Yomim Tovim. He definitely seems to be toleh it on chillul Shabbos. I see no reason to think the Pri Megadim didn’t see the same version of the Pri Chadash as we have (I don’t know what to make of his statement that they don’t eat our bread; it’s probably a way to express that they don’t have the status of Yidden).
Hello99, can I ask you a favor? Do you have a list of mareh m’komos to learn the inyan of muktzah?
☕ DaasYochid ☕Participantoomis,
I agree with the ideas expressed in your post, but I will nitpick on one detail. I think a favor is a chessed, although someone has a right to choose how far to go with a chessed, it’s still a chessed. (we’re probably just using different terminology to express the same idea). In the particular scenario in this thread, I fully agree with the OP, you, and other posters that the girl had an obligation to do her chessed in the way it was originally arranged, and it was wrong to inconvenience the recipient of the chessed the way she did.
☕ DaasYochid ☕ParticipantHow is Yes an answer to a multiple choice question?
I read the question as a yes or no question. As in, “Can I please have a glass of Coke or Pepsi”?
I believe it would be assur above 1/6 of market value.
That depends if you calculate ???? or ????.
☕ DaasYochid ☕ParticipantMeemaYehudis,
I think it’s pretty clear that the Chazon Ish would consider it prohibited. As hello99 points out, though, there is another opinion on the matter.
☕ DaasYochid ☕Participantaries,
Thank you, same to you.
☕ DaasYochid ☕Participantaries,
I appreciate the dialogue. As you know, and have pointed out, IIRC, sometimes a poster’s tone does not reflect their true intentions. I think I’ve been misunderstood by you; I haven’t meant anything personal; I don’t even know you! I do find some of your your posts aggressive and condescending, hence my tone towards you is indeed different than to other posters. Maybe I’m misreading it. I’ll propose that we call a truce, and if I find a post of yours offensive, I’ll politely point it out, and you’ll do likewise to my posts. I wouldn’t want to have to ignore each other; you’re too intelligent and have too much to offer to the discussion, even if I often disagree with you.
Agree to a truce?
☕ DaasYochid ☕ParticipantI don’t know how to relate to someone who thinks he knows how to learn a Pri Chodosh better than the PM”G. 😉
☕ DaasYochid ☕ParticipantBTW, have you ever seen that Chasam Sofer inside? Interesting S’vara, no?
I have seen it inside (not recently, though). IIRC, it wasn’t a sevara, rather, a historical basis for the minhag.
☕ DaasYochid ☕ParticipantI know people (not chassidish) who married their cousins (and so did their spouses).
☕ DaasYochid ☕ParticipantWould be the price of oil (dollars per barrel) be higher, lower, or about the same as the current price of oil if the State of Israel had a supply of oil equal to the current supply held by Saudi Arabia, and Saudi Arabia had none?
Yes (unless there’s another option I’m unaware of).
It would be assur for a Jew to sell it to another at a price 1/5 above market price.
☕ DaasYochid ☕Participantaries,
DY, the apology you gave on that thread was NOT an apology</em.
You’re entitled to your opinion. I disagree.
and I told you so at that time.
I never saw that post before it was deleted (I’m taking your word for it; it’s not there now.)
What you did was rude and uncalled for aside from being wrong and out of context.
I’ll accept the criticism for the rude part; I can see where you could have taken offense. That’s why my apology is sincere. It was not out of context, though. (I wasn’t going to bring this up again, but since you did..)
I’ve never seen an apology from you, btw, for a rude comment you once made about me (which was soon deleted, I’m not sure if by a moderator or at your request).
☕ DaasYochid ☕ParticipantFeif Un,
Interesting. What was the original Poogy song called?
☕ DaasYochid ☕ParticipantWhat do i get if I already have Pintele Yid? 🙂
I liked Pintele Yid. I loved Areshes S’foseinu. One of the all time underrated albums in Jewish music.
☕ DaasYochid ☕Participantr-b,
The only difference is she didn’t express them to the baal chesed, where as the guy I offered a ride to did.
First of all, that’s a big difference. People vent here in a way they never would in real life (for better or worse).
Second of all, mytake wasn’t taking advantage (with that expression’s negative connotation) of the “baalas chessed”. your ride did take advantage of (in your words, abuse) you.
Third of all, you in no way (according to your post) did anything to inconvenience your passenger. The driver in mytake’s case did.
☕ DaasYochid ☕Participantwouldn’t yeshiva’s be classified as non profits which may have different rules than traditional small businesses
If it worked, that means by definition, Amex classisifies them as small businesses.
☕ DaasYochid ☕Participantaries,
Our posts apparently crossed in the (e)mail. In case you missed it, I apologized again.
☕ DaasYochid ☕Participantaries,
I found that thread. I did explain and apologize.
In case I wasn’t clear enough, I’m sorry.
I thought it was fair, though, to point out the inconsistency in your argument. I didn’t intend to insult you personally in the process.
You never did explain, though, how starting a thread is more likely to be loshon horah than participating in one.
☕ DaasYochid ☕Participantr-b,
Try rephrasing it.
☕ DaasYochid ☕Participantaries,
Please remind me for what I need to apologize.
☕ DaasYochid ☕Participant☕ DaasYochid ☕ParticipantA yeshiva telling American Express that it is a small business is dishonest.
The yeshivas aren’t telling Amex that they’re a small business. They happened to be classified this way. I see nothing wrong with it.
☕ DaasYochid ☕ParticipantAries,
Although I agree with you on this, I don’t understand your distinction between a favor and a mitzvah. It’s a mitzvah to lend your friend a car if she needs it, and although not obligatory, it would enhance the mitzvah if the car was clean and fueled. Yet, if you did’nt clean or fuel it, it would be obnoxious of the friend to complain (unlike the case of the late ride, where it was an “avla” on the part of the girl to show up 1 1/2 hours late).
☕ DaasYochid ☕ParticipantSh’koach cherrybim!
☕ DaasYochid ☕Participantr-b,
The OP asked for nothing more during the ride than was originally offered.
Also, if someone offers a chessed, but doesn’t follow through properly, they may actually have done a disservice to the recipient. Mytake might have been able to make other arrangements if she wasn’t expecting a ride from this girl, and would not have had to wait around for an hour and a half.
☕ DaasYochid ☕ParticipantDid you click “update profile”?
☕ DaasYochid ☕Participantr-b,
Your example doesn’t fit the scenario of the OP. Although I agree that the recipient of a chessed should not take advantage, one who offers a chessed should still do it right.
I’m with aries on this one.
☕ DaasYochid ☕Participantit is just a matter of Yashrus..if you say that u you will do something, do it!
Agreed.
Its also a matter of Genaivas Daas and probably also Genaivas Mammon as well.
Probably not, since they likely intended to do it properly and just messed up (I’m assuming there was an issue; I personally didn’t use this program at Mostly Music).
☕ DaasYochid ☕ParticipantWIY,
I disagree with you. There’s no difference between this $25 and any other money one chooses to spend on extras. Unless one believes in never spending money on any luxury item in their life, there no reason why this specific promotion needs to be applied to tzedakah.
☕ DaasYochid ☕Participant☕ DaasYochid ☕Participantaries, ask your Rav what to give
You should have left it right there; no need to say more.
☕ DaasYochid ☕Participanthello99,
Thanks. Do you think the term “?? ??????” means it just a chumra? I don’t.
You also seem to limit the din to the term he uses, ?????. I don’t.
I didn’t make up my understanding of the PR”C; see PM”G (S”D).
☕ DaasYochid ☕ParticipantYour example (“faking it” by Modim) is part of normative halacha. Therefore, that is an occasion where the “deceit” is explicitly sanctioned by halacha. I don’t think my case has the same explicit permission to deceive.
Well, you can certainly now justify it by saying “you were told” it’s okay. 😉
☕ DaasYochid ☕ParticipantA dollar? I only got a quarter.
I guess I was a spoiled kid.
Seriously, however, I heard mine as a p’sak halacha. You did not.
What I’m saying is that just because someone told it to you, even as a psak halacha, doesn’t mean that it’s right.
☕ DaasYochid ☕ParticipantI was told that I am not allowed to eat my own cooking as a mechallel Shabbos.
And I was told that the tooth fairy will put a dollar under my pillow.
☕ DaasYochid ☕ParticipantYou really think that people will think that I’m a kofer if I don’t sing? I think that’s *very* unlikely.
No, nor do I think people will consider you a kofer if you don’t bow at Modim when you’re in the middle of S”E. You’re still not supposed to do things that give off a bad appearance, though.
☕ DaasYochid ☕ParticipantDr D,
1) There are those who are makpid for keilim as well.
2) Very doubtful that Rav Elyashiv and R’ Shlomo Zalman ever told anyone that it’s not better to eat cholov Yisroel.
3) R’ Moshe still recommended cholov Yisroel (in the classic sense).
4) Pri Chodosh (in some cases).
5) Disagreeing with R’ Moshe (as many big poskim did) is in no way impugning his character.
