remember teachers get out early on fridays have off all chol hamoed and erev yom tov with out issue
I think you are taking teachers for granted.
☕ DaasYochid ☕ParticipantLook in the case of the Rema of Tzorech Godol -“like a Chasuna or Mila Seudah”.
Yes, to turn on the lights, not to cook.
You’ll never find anyone being matir cooking al y’dei aku”m for any tzorech other than a choleh.

That’s your choice to call it victimizing, but the way I see it, paying more for a more difficult, time consuming job is not being victimized.

I’m not clear on your post. Are you agreeing or disagreeing with my opinion that redting a shidduch with an older girl is more difficult than with a younger one?
☕ DaasYochid ☕ParticipantDY
You mean there’s more than one?
There’s one for every older single. Larger than a breadbox.

First of all, mazel tov! May he/she continue to grow in avodas Hashem.
I think you’re being too harsh when you call this a lack of mentchlichkeit. Not everyone considers attendance at a siddur play as important as you do. Your difference of opinion with the school is probably in this regard, not that they think you should take off from work in order to attend.
You can certainly call the school and share your concerns, and if enough parents and grandparents do so, they might reconsider.
☕ DaasYochid ☕ParticipantYou must have misstyped the Mareh Makom.
Indeed. Sorry; it’s in 325.

A good shadchan does a lot more than just present a name.
Hmmm… I don’t think so, unless someone acts as a central hub for that, such as NASI is doing for the older girls. (I think I’ve just answered your first question as well).
who will wait now till their 21 if it will cost them more this will just increase the problem.
No one’s intentionally waiting in any case (unless they are anyhow not ready).
☕ DaasYochid ☕ParticipantHello99,
We can start with M”B 326:16 that food is worse.
We still have to differentiate between this and the case of the refrigerator in IG”M, but that’s merely gaining access, not preparing it and making it edible.
☕ DaasYochid ☕ParticipantHealth,
The oven did not cool -it’s Klor from the MB -95 –
I’m not talking about that case. I’ll quote the R’ma which I am referring to:
??? ?????? ?????? ?????? ??????? ??????? ?? ??????? ???????? ???
???????? ???? ??? ???? ??? ????? ?? ???? ?????? ????? ???? ????? ???? ??”? ?? ??????? ?????? ???????
Whatever they had, they didn’t have more than one and the flame was still on.
No, it had cooled, which is why the servants moved the pots to the heating oven and lit it.
“The Biur Halacha doesn’t stop at the words “tzorech Shabbos”, he also says “v’ain lo eitzah acheres”.”
You put in words that it doesn’t say, neither in the Rema or the B’H
I put in no words that weren’t there, as I said, the context is clearly not your imagined case.
DY -“Do you care to explain why you don’t think it’s a diyuk (which, as I explained, is the simple p’shat, in context)?”
I did already and I’ll quote from above:
“And how do you know what the “the” is refering to? Maybe it’s left over pots from Fri. nite & he’s hungry?”
I posted that before your post was visible.
☕ DaasYochid ☕ParticipantSorry, I missed this earlier:
DY: how do you understand the Rema 276?
He’s not referring to bishul.
☕ DaasYochid ☕ParticipantThe very first teshuva in the (new) 9th chelek of Igros Moshe strongly encourages keeping the MG”A’s zman for krias Shma.
☕ DaasYochid ☕ParticipantOr they feel that the Shittah of the Magen Avraham was completely Nidcheh by the GR”A
It wasn’t.
☕ DaasYochid ☕ParticipantThe Diyuk is Not a Diyuk -so you can’t push that Pshat in the Rema.
Do you care to explain why you don’t think it’s a diyuk (which, as I explained, is the simple p’shat, in context)?
☕ DaasYochid ☕ParticipantLet’s see…
No, it is not abstract.
no mechanical/electronic components
Yes, it’s used for recreational purposes.
You use it as a tool to accomplish a task
No, it is not only found in America
No, it is not used by an average person everyday. And I’m gonna give a bit away, but some people never use it.
It’s a brain!
☕ DaasYochid ☕ParticipantWhy isn’t the hamon am machmir like the magen avraham if you said shma by that zman wouldn’t you be yotzei l’chol hadeios.
Because the hamon am isn’t necessarily more makpid on being yotzei l’chol hadeios than they are on a few more minutes of sleep.
January 24, 2012 5:09 am at 5:09 am in reply to: If you've read "NASI Project Responds", have you changed your mind? #848172☕ DaasYochid ☕ParticipantMSS,
I know they had one a couple of years ago (Agudah sponsored singles event with shadchanim on the spot to follow through on any promising leads), but I don’t know if it was repeated or if there are any plans to do so.
January 24, 2012 1:51 am at 1:51 am in reply to: If you've read "NASI Project Responds", have you changed your mind? #848170☕ DaasYochid ☕ParticipantI think we’re in a Sakana matzav already and only Gedolim can advise, perhaps by organizing and providing the “Who What When and Where” for older singles to meet on their own, or semi supervised, with the same interest and commitment as when planning Siumei Shas. It can be done.
And has been done.
☕ DaasYochid ☕ParticipantWhy aren’t people makpid on the zman of the magen avraham for sof zman krias shma? (I for one am)
You’re far from the only one.
☕ DaasYochid ☕ParticipantBPM,
Mod 80 was not just a moderator, he was (and is) a very beloved poster, and I think he should keep his identity (such as one of the retired moderators (72) does, with “retired moderator” as a subtitle).
☕ DaasYochid ☕ParticipantHello99,
If you think the R’ma would be mattir bishul b’makom tzoreh gadol, now that I’ve shown you that mei’ikar hadin R’ Moshe holds like the R’ma, you should admit that Health was right that, at least according to R’ Moshe, one can tell an aku”m to cook a cholent for you (barring bishul aku”m) if you don’t have another hot food. I think you know that that’s not true.
I should point out that my diyuk is not merely from the ?, the entire context would indicate that there’s no other hot food; the reason they would move the food is because, not having gas or electric as we do, the oven often had cooled by the time the Shabbos meal would start. They didn’t have an oven, a hot plate, and a crockpot; at most they probably had a cooking oven and a heating oven.
The Biur Halacha doesn’t stop at the words “tzorech Shabbos”, he also says “v’ain lo eitzah acheres”.
☕ DaasYochid ☕ParticipantThat’s a pretty weak Diyuk to create a Stira in the Rema.
I’m not saying it’s a stirah, I’m saying the R’ma would not be mattir bishul al y’dei aku”m, even l’tzorach gadol.
☕ DaasYochid ☕ParticipantExactly, it’s says pots.
No, it says the pots (??????).
You haven’t responded to the Biur Halacha, which is specifically referring to a case of tzorech gadol.

January 23, 2012 4:31 am at 4:31 am in reply to: question about rabbenu tam zman for ending shabbos #845611☕ DaasYochid ☕Participant147,
some fabricated Chumro
Although it’s true that there is a kasya on applying Rabbeinu Tam’s opinion ti certain lattitudes (the G’ra asks it), there were many poskim who did so. In Europe (and even for a short time in the US), some communities kept Rabbeinu Tam even as a kula.
You should refrain from posting your guesses as fact. This is not the first time that you have “fabricated” halachos based on your sevaros, as appealing as they may be.
☕ DaasYochid ☕Participantdaasyochid…I was refering to missing Yom Tov candlelighting bec. one fell asleep(not feeling well)and woke up the next morning realizing they forgot to light Yom Tov licht.
I don’t mean that it can’t happen. I mean since it’s unusual, there was no knas instituted.
This is actually, IIRC, a machlokes, in which l’maaseh we are meikil because it’a a safek k’nas.
January 23, 2012 4:14 am at 4:14 am in reply to: Frustrated Mothers of Girls: Can we hear your ideas #845583☕ DaasYochid ☕ParticipantOmmis,
I wonder why I have not heard any Gadol saying that the s’char mitzvah of making a shidduch for an older single (girl OR guy) would be greater in Olam Haba than for those easier to make younger shidduchim (lifum tz’arah agrah).
From the letter signed by 70 R”Y:
“In addition, shadchanim should work primarily for girls who are age twenty and above. Shadchanim who go further and assist older girls will merit ??? ???? ?? ?????.”
AZ posted the entire letter here:
If you've read "NASI Project Responds", have you changed your mind?
As far as why the girls more than the guys, that is pretty clearly addressed in the letter.
☕ DaasYochid ☕ParticipantIn the case you brought -the guy just wants to warm up Stam a pot
RM”A says the pots which very much sounds like that’s their Shabbos food (certainly their only hot food, which is considered a tzorech gadol).
The Biur Halacha (probably the one you were referring to) is explicitly only mattir (and hesitates to do so) where there’s no eitzah, and only because there’s a shittah that ein bishul achar bishul even applies to a davar lach. Clearly, where there is definite bishul, it is assur even al yedei aku”m.
☕ DaasYochid ☕ParticipantOomis, you should be zocheh to marry off your single kids this year!
January 22, 2012 6:19 pm at 6:19 pm in reply to: Frustrated Mothers of Girls: Can we hear your ideas #845578☕ DaasYochid ☕Participantlet s all agree on one thing..Throwing money at this problem will not solve it.
I’ll agree when and if it fails. Until then, I’d give it a try.
why dont we open a forum right here on YWN as anonymous as possible, and make shidduchim.
Anonymous shidduchim don’t work. The boy and girl have to meet.
Anyhow, the premise is wrong. If the problem were merely too many older singles, more shadchanim would be the proper solution. Since there’s a disparity, though, with more older girls than boys, the proper solution would have to address that.
☕ DaasYochid ☕ParticipantIf it is in the Gemarah, it is Talmud Torah.
That’s what I told my 6th grade rebbe when he caught me with a Batman comic inside my Bava Metziah. He didn’t buy it.
☕ DaasYochid ☕ParticipantThe case you brought down isn’t talking about Tzorech Godol, like in my case.
Your pots of food got cold = ???? ????.

Who says anyone doesn’t understand? Maybe it’s worth the attempt for the long term goal of having more of them get married!

What, then did you mean when you wrote, “what would change public thinking, perception and action, would be, the Rabbeim and Rabbonim who sign onto and endorse such initiatives, sign up their own family members and encourage their own mispallilim to do the same”?
Why would they need to have people they are personally involved with sign up to “change public…perception”?
☕ DaasYochid ☕ParticipantHe actually writes “???? ??????”. It seems, though, that ????? ???? he actually holds like the ??”?. See ??”? ??”? ?’ ? ???? ?”?.
However, in our case, it would clearly be ????, as per the ??”? in ??”? ???? ? and ?”? ?? ?”? ?”?.
??? ?????? ????? ????? ?????? ??? ???? ???? ????? ????? ????? ??? ???? ???? ????? ????? ???? ?????? ?? ????? ??? ??? ?? ???? ?????
☕ DaasYochid ☕ParticipantR’ Moshe ZTL was supposed to have argued with Rishonim in Igros
Even when he argues with acharonim, he will point out that a particular acharon has a different opinion which should be considered.
I don’t think he ever directly argues on rishonim, but he will sometimes explain their words differently than one would normally understand at first glance.

☕ DaasYochid ☕ParticipantBabygoose,
i heard in a shiur by a renowned darshan that the bashert is only destined for the girls.
Tosafos says the opposite.
maybe this explains the gap bet. amount of boys and girls. YES, some boys were created for being bachlors!
There are more unmarried “older” females than males, which would actually fit into the idea that the bas kol was said about the males. In truth, however, it’s possible that few really marry according to the bas kol nowadays.

☕ DaasYochid ☕ParticipantHello99,
So I figured, but your post was unclear. Thanks for the clarification.
Health,
You can’t extrapolate oneg Shabbos (cholent) from kavod habrios.
☕ DaasYochid ☕Participant☕ DaasYochid ☕Participant1)when you have a situation where you have 3 poskim to choose from- can I choose the rav that will give me the psak I want to get i.e. maykal ?
I certainly don’t think that’s what the RS”O wants us to do.
2)if I cannot get a rav now (Im on vacation, or it’s midnight, or the rav doesn’t answer his phone etc) can i rely on a heter in a situation where i know it is a machlokes?
I’m going to evade your question now – get a hold of the number for an emergency halacha hotline.
When that’s not possible, I would think that it depends on the circumstance; if nobody would be effected negatively by being machmir, I would think that would be the way to go, and then ask when you get a chance so you’ll know for the future. Otherwise, it’s a real tough call and not really an answerable question.
