with such a mother i woudldnt’ be surprised that the kids tease counselors about the tips.

I don’t think the mother was trying to be mean in any way. She probably did not realize that Moishy didn’t get too many tips and that he was waiting for some. She was trying to protect her son from getting burnt. Nothing wrong with that (I hope!)

I copied this from the 5 Most Important Shidduch Questions thread. mariner wrote:

…in eretz yisroel, and some chassideshe places here in america, women who sit up front or in teh back that have cros chest belts will put that behind them, which is beyond dangerous. the belt is manufactured in a way so that it is only going to work if both lap adnd chest belts are secure. venishmartem meod lenofshoseichem is completely lost on these people The reason I copied this here is to warn people. The seatbelt may be uncomftable or “un-Tzniusdik (are you kidding me?), either way, you must wear a seatbelt and wear it PROPERLY. Would you use a dangerous tool when a safety feature is not woring properly? The same is true for a car and seatbelts. (And if you would play with that tool, go immediately to the nearest mental institution and no, not in a car!)

Yes, I am a city day camp clownsler… As an example of what I was saying before, I mentioned to my sister that one part of me can’t wait for camp to start and another part is nervous. She asked me why I should be nervous. I asked her if she is not nervous having to watch over 17-20 kids (as a pre-school counselor). She said no, it is nothing. Then I realized that she is not IN CHARGE of those children. She has a Morah on top of her who is responsible for the bunk/class.

Kasha, give me 20 and I’ll be happy. What is the point of a tip? To show your appreciation to the staff for all that s/he did for your child over the summer. Yes, if you give me $50 I would take it but you should give what you can afford. And if not money, even a simple Thank You note written on a plain piece of paper shows you appreciate all the effort we put into your child. Money has value for a short time period. A thank you will always be remembered.

whatelseislef, the difference in Counselor and JC is that the counselor is responsible for the bunk. The JC’s job is to HELP the Counselor. If something happens to a camper it is the Counselor who is responsible for what is happening. The full weight of the bunk is on the Counselor. The JC is only a helper. I am not saying that JCs are nothing. The past summer I had the 2 BEST JCs I could of asked for. They were always ready and wiling to do what had to be done and I really could not of had such a great. Summer without them. But still, the bunk was mine and my responsibility. If a Counselor only stays one half, then you may think about giving the JC a bigger tip. But again, the Counselor is still in charge of the bun. First half and second half. Then there are times when you may feel that the JC is doing more then the Counselor. In a case like that, you must find out, and NOT from your child, what is happening throughout the day. A camper can come home everyday complaining that his Counselor bothers him and the JC is his best friend. Maybe its true or maybe the camper is mis behaving and the Counselor is trying to help the camper by discipling him (in a good way) and the JC doesn’t want to bother and let’s the kid do whatever he wants (the same is true vice-versa). Find out. Call the camp, speak to the Head Counselor or Division Head. They will try to help you. And yes, there are Counselors and JCs who sit around and play games all day. I would think twice before tipping them (except into the pool)

Lakewood Committeeman Meir Lichtenstein suggests, when traveling with your child in the back of the car, leave something of importance in the back of the car, like your wallet or pocketbook in the back seat so that when you leave the car. you will look for your wallet/pocketbook and “remember” your precious baby/child. (not his exact words)

    (I don’t know if anyone mentioned this…)

Besides for leaving kids in cars, while driving, EVERYONE, kids AND ADULTS MUST wear a seat belt at all times. Everywhere and anywhere you go. Even if its 5 minutes, you don’t know which drunk driver is driving down the street in those 5 minutes.

“I’m gonna wear my seatbelt…seatbelts are for everyone!”

BP Totty, mischiefmaker and HIE: I am out of HS and working as a secretary in a school (I did mention this a couple of times on other threads).

I would really hope you’re married staffers, with summer jobs upstate.

No, I am not married and no, I do not have a summer job upstate. However, as i said in the “Ripped Off Working In Camps” thread, I am a counselor in a day camp in the city.

Did I answer all your questions?!

About strollers, don’t stick your stroller into the street while waiting for the light to change. I think its common sense, but from what happens on the streets, its not.

hereorthere, you can change the URL. For example, http://www.theyeshivaworld.com/coffeeroom/topic/your-feedback-new-ywn-website/page/4

you can delete the number 4 (at the end) and replace it with a different number. I don’t think it answers your question, but just a helpful tip.

In a large Florida City, the rabbi developed quite a reputation for his sermons; so much so that everyone who was Jewish in the community came every Shabbat.

h2, there is a video online about a class/shiur that did this to there Rebbe and the Rebbe put a tape recorder by his desk…

I’m surprised no one else pulled this thread out. I was very busy yesterday to post in the CR…

    (Monday, June 7th, 2010)

Sholom Rubashkin has been found not guilty on all 67 misdemeanor child labor charges, media outlets report.

WCF Courier reports: Former Agriprocessors executive Sholom Rubashkin has been acquitted of allowing minors to work at the Postville slaughterhouse.

The jury indicated they had reached a verdict shortly before 1 p.m. Monday.

Jurors acquitted him of all 67 counts of child labor violations.

Rubashkin is awaiting sentencing on federal bank fraud charges in connection with loans Agriprocessors received. Federal immigration charges stemming from the May 2008 raid at the plant were dropped earlier.

State labor officials began investigating information that minors worked at the plant in the months before the May 2008 immigration raid.

Prosecutors said Rubashkin, who was described at the CEO and co-vice president of the company, knew underage workers held jobs at the facility and did nothing to remove them or change hiring practices.

Twenty-six former Agriprocessors employees from Guatemala and Mexico testified they had worked at the plant as teenagers. The state said they worked with dangerous chemicals and some tended power-driven equipment like conveyor belts.

You can see comments from the main page by following this link: http://www.theyeshivaworld.com/news/Headlines+&+Breaking+Stories/61261/VERDICT+JUST+IN:+RUBASHKIN+-+NOT+GUILTY!.html#comments

Its the same idea as if you hit “FRESHNESS” on the CR. It takes you to the last comment. On the main YW page, it takes you to the “comments” section. Take for example this story: http://www.theyeshivaworld.com/news/General+News/61392/Fox-News-Wants-Helen-Thomas’-Front-Row-Seat-In-White-House-Press-Room.html#comments

The “#comments” is part of the URL making it take you only to the comments. But if you only hit http://www.theyeshivaworld.com/news/General+News/61392/Fox-News-Wants-Helen-Thomas’-Front-Row-Seat-In-White-House-Press-Room.html without clicking (4 opinions), you will see the full story PLUS the comments.

    Hope I explained it well enough (I didn’t sleep last night…No, I wasn’t on the CR….!)
