Why do people feel they need a silk tie? Does it feel different? The tie is on top of your shirt!

Also, a Choson tie. You spend a fortune on the wedding. From L’Chaim to Vort to Afruf/Shabbos Kallah, Chassunah, Sheva Brochos, Shabbos Sheva Brochos…

The Choson is going to wear that tie ONCE IN HIS LIFE! By the Chuppah, it is covered by his coat, kittel and jacket. No one can tell that it is a silk tie. Why not get a cheap(er) tie?

okthen, sleep away or day camp?

It seems like sleep aways charge (especially for JC jobs). But, day camps (like the big ones) pay decently.

And as Hashem Is Everywhere said above, “But the truth is, I’m not going to camp to make big bucks, i have somewhat of a good time, and there’s no use in complaining.” I agree wholeheartedly with that. When I get my Youth Corp Debit Card, I give it to my parents and they put the money away (for me ). I am a counsler because I want to give 17 little kids a good time!

Here is what I said on the “jobs for teen boys during the summer” thread:

“Counselor, co-counselor, junior counselor. A great experience and lots of fun. Get onto Youth Corp (pronounced Youth Core) and make sure he is doing it to have a good time with his campers, not just to kill a summer”

and that doesn’t mean playing on a PSP, GameBoy, Phone, or listening to music while watching your bunk. Those guys who come to camp equipped with their babyish toys are wasting there time and there campers time. I think it is totally wrong. I watch bunks having no one to lead them cause their counselor and/or junior counselor is sitting in the corner playing some stupid game. You are getting paid TO GIVE YOUR CAMPERS A GOOD TIME.

Everyone complains that they don’t get tipped. Did you give your campers everything you got? Boruch Hashem, I got tipped from every campers (except two). I tried to give each camper what he needed. I am not saying I was the best counselor, but I think (and hope) that I did a good job. And with Hashem’s help, I want to do it again!

Hatzlacha in what ever you do!

notrichenough: I don’t know the legal age a child can start working, however, there is something called “Working Papers”. There are two different Working Papers.

    1: Nonfactory Employment Certificate

Valid for Lawful Employment of a Minor 14 or 15 Years of Age

Enrolled in Day School When Attendance Is Not Required (Blue card)

    2: Student General Employment Certificate

Valid for Lawful Employment of a Minor 15 or 16 Years of Age

Enrolled in Day School When Attendance Is Not Required (Green card)

These cards can be obtained from your child’s school office after proof of a number of things.

My second grade Rebbe (I’m giving away my Yeshiva by saying this!) gave out sprinkles and chocolate chips! We used to put them under our Siddur or Chumash and crush them.

I still have my first grade Chumash, and on the inside cover there a number of cute animal stickers. Seems like my Rebbe gave those out instead of the candy. Every time I see the stickers, I have this special feeling! He also had a point system and every Friday he would take out prizes (that were hugangous in our eyes) and we could pick out a prize based on our points. (I never really got anything big!)

As my future sister-in-law would say, “To each there own!” (That reminds me, my brothers getting married SOON! yikes!!!)

AutoPager is a widget (remember those?) which makes it that you don’t have to press Next at the bottom of the page, it makes everything one long page so you can keep on scrolling with having to wait for the next page to load. It is available on Firefox and Google Chrome. It works very good on Google and YouTube. There is a way to set it up so it will work on other sites, but you need to set up RULES. There are tutorials, but I don’t really chap them.

Warning: Census Scam Could Cost You Your Identity – April 1, 2010

WCBSTV reports: Today is the deadline to get your 2010 census forms in, but there are forms out there that may not be legit.

The real paperwork comes on a color background with ten questions and will never ask for your Social Security number, bank account information, or signature.

The majority of scams that people fall for now come via computer, as does the latest census scam.

If a census worker knocks on your door, insist on seeing a badge and a second form of identification. The badge will have an expiration date and a seal from the Department of Commerce.

Phony census forms are also asking for bank accounts, credit card information, usernames, and passwords. Never give that information out.

No census form asks for a donation or sends a request on behalf of a political party.

If you think you were scammed or want to confirm whether a census-taker is legitimate, click here to find your local census office to confirm or report any fraudulent activity.

This article is from another website:

BMG Poskim and Roshei Yeshiva Release Letter Regarding Permissibility of Participating in 2010 Census

    Thursday March 18, 2010

The letter is signed by the four senior poskim of Beth Medrash Govoha, Rav Yaakov Forchheimer, Rav Shmuel Meir Katz, Rav Osher Chaim Lieberman and Rav Shmuel Felder. The letter is also signed by the four roshei yeshiva, Rav Malkiel Kotler, Rav Dovid Schustal Rav Yeruchom Olshin and Rav Yisroel Neuman, and the mashgiach, Rav Matisyahu Salomon.

The note from the poskim states that there is no comparison between the American census and the census in Israel, regarding which certain Yidden are machmir, adding that never in the past – not during the census counts of 1980, 1990 or 2000 – has there been any sort of doubt about the halachic permissibility of participating in the census. The poskim also point out the importance of the census to the town of Lakewood and the services and funding it receives.

Failure to respond to the census carries a fine of up to $5,000, although that law is rarely enforced.

Aside from fulfilling a duty as a U.S. citizen, the census is also very beneficial to the Lakewood community. About 65 percent of Lakewood residents participated in the 2000 Census. Although that is in line with the national average, it means Lakewood received only 65 cents for every federal dollar it could have received had everybody participated.

Because April 1 is in the middle of Pesach, a time when people are away or busy with the holiday, it is important to fill out the census form and send it back in a timely manner. The form, as mentioned, is only 10 questions, and should take no longer than 10 minutes to fill out.

The population of Lakewood in the 2000 census was about 60,352. The projected population of Lakewood is 110,000. Askanim have told us that they are aiming for at least 96 percent participation, which would put the population of Lakewood at 100,000. This would designate Lakewood as a city, which will attract businesses and jobs, revenue for its tax base, transportation, other infrastructure projects, and many other issues.

“it is halachically questionable to count people”

bombmaniac, its silly that whenever someone needs information a new thread should be started. We already have two Chol Hamoed trip threads and to start another one will just make it harder to find things.

And this is not only true about Chol Hamoed trips. It happens with many diffrent topics. And when someone wants to read about a specific topic, s/he shouldn’t have to go through 2, 3, 4 … threads to find what s/he wants.

Why, when companies make products more expensive they make cheaper quality? We bought liquid soap for Pesach. Same size bottle as all year round, more expensive, NO quality! I heard that Kedem says that they put in as much water as possible into their wines. If you put in any more, it won’t be wine. The same is true with the soap! It is more like diluted, flavored, scented diet water!

What about the paper towels? More expensive but very cheap quality. And the same is true for foil! Its ridiculous!!!
