CuriosityParticipant
Judging someone as uneducated by the spelling in a comment made online is unfair. For all you know, English might be this guy’s 7th language.
One of my Calculus II teachers was Chinese, and she could barely spell. My physics professor was a French astrophysicist, and he would always say “substract” instead of “subtract.”
CuriosityParticipantJust put out some money, it’s really not that expensive.
CuriosityParticipantSimcha613 – I also often have problems understanding the Torah and chazal literally, especially when it’s clearly contradicted by our reality, like in the case you mention. However, Chazal say that before the Mabul the atmosphere was completely different. Also, Gan Eden was not necessarily similar to the natural world that we live in today. Nonetheless, I’m sure there is a much more profound explanation to the Torah’s narrative of creation – one that we are not yet privey to understand.
CuriosityParticipantIt’s very likely in preparation for the necessary actions they will have to take against Iran and Hashem’s other enemies. It’s not good to change administrations in a time of war, or have to deal with politics at a time where defense should be your main concern.
CuriosityParticipantThe guy obviously didn’t go to a mussar yeshiva. Rov Yisroel Salanter ztz”l would be crying if he heard this.
CuriosityParticipantInteresting that in most of the world it’s 11/10/12
CuriosityParticipantEtrogim are pasul if they have a mum. Even if the yerei shamayim who put it in the box weren’t aware of it when they sealed it.
CuriosityParticipantinterjection, why are you so caustic so often? You really need to lighten up some.
CuriosityParticipantDid anyone have the pleasure of checking out “Forward Unto Dawn” yet? I heard it can be viewed online for free on the Halo website, but haven’t had time to look at it yet. How was it?
CuriosityParticipantI forgot to say… May you be matzliach 🙂
CuriosityParticipantAre you looking for his flaws because you pick up on something that you can’t quite put your finger on, or is it because you are just scared of creating an emotional attachment? Either way, he for sure has flaws- everyone does, the only question is, do you feel they are flaws you can live with, or ones that you cannot? If you cannot detect his flaws then either he is really good at hiding them, or they just don’t bother you. Stop being so judgmental and just try to get to know the guy better… Also, have a good time – nobody likes being interrogated.

CuriosityParticipantPrincess – Wow, 73 dates !! Yikes!
Getaclue – I’m also 23, but just starting to date. You are lucky that you live in a big Jewish community, which I assume that you do because you say u speak with shadchannim. Where I live there are almost no frum girls to date. I don’t know what I’m going to do other than fly out of here and try and meet someone who is willing to relocate. I don’t want to be too old when I marry, but I also don’t want to rush into anything I am unsure about just bc of convenience. Dating is not pashut… : /

How appropriate…
October 5, 2012 6:23 am at 6:23 am in reply to: Radical Proposal to Help Save Some of Our Crisis' #898796CuriosityParticipantWhy not Eretz Yisrael? Then the Orthodox could take over the government democratically and usher in a new tshuva revolution.

? 1/(?(1+4t^2)) dt
Or
? dt/(1+4t^2)
instead of
? ?(1+4t^2) dt
? : ) I couldn’t find that particular one on Google, but there are (lengthier) ways of solving it, and programs that calculate anti-derivatives for you.
CuriosityParticipantI spoke to a mekubal from the lineage of the famous Abuchatzera family once. He is a Rosh Yeshiva in Israel, but is recognized as a mekubal. His advice to me was learn hard and daven hard and Hashem will help. People go with all these fantastic expectations from mekubalim, but that’s not what Kaballah is about. Kaballah is basically an explanation to the “mechanics” of the spiritual realm in which we exist. Understanding the spiritual helps us understand the physical, but generally speaking the derech stays the same. Do what Hashem requests of you, and have bitachon that everything will work out for the best.

But seriously though, major brownie points to whoever can solve the integral and show their work 🙂

It’s actually called an indefinite integral.

? ?(1+4t^2) dt
?

CuriosityParticipantKiryas Yoelite, my theory is more physics based: Massive objects gravitationally attract other objects. The more massive one object is, the harder it pulls on the second object, and the less massive the second object, the less inertia the first object needs to convert to pull it in. Thus, fat guys attract skinny girls.
CuriosityParticipantSoo.. What’s the best way for a normal, decent Jewish “out of town” bochur to find a good shidduch? There are almost no frum girls here, and it seems the majority of “in town” girls who search far “out of town” are doing so because they are desperate due to one reason or another. What should we “OOT”ers do?
CuriosityParticipantI don’t think we call them bnei Yishmael because of their DNA. It’s because their culture is that of bnei Yishmael, and also they themselves claim it as well. Just like the Galus Edom doesn’t necessarily mean that all Westerners are from Esav, but their culture is the same. Rome was the start of Galus Edom, and Rome was the center bureaucratic corruption under the guise of a people’s rule. It was also a cesspool of lewd and immoral behavior… exactly like the Western world is today.
CuriosityParticipantIt was actually kind of funny now that I think of it.. I would drive around trying to solve murders, while committing them at the same time.
CuriosityParticipantChristians don’t fly planes into buildings, blow up school buses, shoot rockets into civilian centers, riot because of cartoons depicting their religious icons, or behead people on camera. How exactly are they just as dangerous?
CuriosityParticipantYes shmoel, my feet are slightly flat. It’s not serious, but they could use a couple millimeters or more of arch height. Are you here to make fun of people’s physical imperfections?
CuriosityParticipantI ran over so many innocent people in Noire… The driving responsiveness is horrendous!
CuriosityParticipantThat’s pretty extreme…
CuriosityParticipantI’m with you yenta. I hate wearing crocs for walking and standing. They’re just convenient for when I’m sitting around the house, or have to go outside for a minute. I have slightly flat feet and the crocs provide no arch support. I do not find them more comfortable than leather shoes.
CuriosityParticipantIt’s not prurient. We are all being very decent here. Nobody is using any inappropriate language or making suggestive references.
This forum is highly informative and very helpful for people in the shidduchim scene that don’t know any real people to ask about these issues, or are too embarrassed to do so when they are not anonymous. If you feel you are too holy for this thread then just don’t read it.
CuriosityParticipantYou should be deleted… From this post. There’s nothing wrong with it. Go impose your chumras somewhere else.
CuriosityParticipantWhy did you automatically assume I care? All I said was that it felt strange and that the nonjews felt it was strange, too. I never remarked about caring about what they think.
CuriosityParticipantAnybody who says gaming is a bad outlet should do some introspection. Assuming you aren’t making it a habit instead of a hobby, and that you allot your time responsibly for “business” and for pleasure, gaming is no different than watching movies, reading secular books, or playing chess. Anybody with a hobby who calls gaming bad is an outright hypocrite who is too blind to see his/her own faults. I personally play games only when I’m on vacation from school and have plenty of downtime to spare. Boredom is deadly, and gaming is a healthy and often very social outlet for when I just can’t be sitting and learning. Gaming today is not of the anti-social nature that it had in the late 90s. That is simply a stigma that refuses to die among those who know less about modern gaming than they do about quantum mechanics.
CuriosityParticipantI felt soo weird walking down the street in a full suit and crocs. Got some priceless stares from the passing goyim.
CuriosityParticipantEven if he did do wrong, who is to say he hasn’t matured and done tshuva since years ago in high school? So what if he wasn’t a “top learner”? Rebbe Akiva also wasn’t a top learner when he got married. It sickens me to see how some people scrutinize every single rumor and open up the “sefer hazichronos” from decades ago. We ask Hashem to forget our sins from this year, but we can’t even forget each other’s sins from 5 or 10 years ago?
CuriosityParticipantSometimes I wonder if people bother reading the posts that came before them before spewing their over judgmental opinions… It’s really starting to bug me how grossly arrogant you supposedly religious people are.
CuriosityParticipantBesalel- I feel sorry for you. Are you really so arrogant and have such low self esteem that you feel the need to call people who have hobbies dissimilar to yours “losers”? A real loser is someone so insecure with theirselves that they feel the need to look down on others in order to have any shred of self appreciation. You are the loser here, and that’s besides your being obnoxious and ill-mannered. Way to hide behind a keyboard and act all awesome!
CuriosityParticipantSong of Blessing – I don’t have a problem prioritizing. I enjoy games but I haven’t even turned on my xbox in several months. I’ve just been too busy. The reason I want a gamer wife is not so I can sit for hours on end wasting time with her. It’s just that gamers are gamers because they like a certain style and are part of a specific sub-culture. You dont necessarily need to waste hours of your day to be called a gamer. There’s nothing wrong with wanting a spouse that enjoys similar hobbies. Is it any worse than watching movies together, or having a common favorite author whose books you both enjoy?
CuriosityParticipantInterjection… What makes you say such a broad and senseless generalization?
CuriosityParticipantLol…can’t say WIY is wrong…
Noomtw – as a rule of thumb, don’t wear shoes that make your date look upward. Also, unless it’s accepted where you live, imho the more inches the less tzniyus…
CuriosityParticipantchro7 – that’s so funny, that’s exactly what I’m looking for too… Im really starting to doubt that they exist, but at least we learned one thing…. if you want to marry off your daughter, buy her an xbox.
CuriosityParticipantAmen, brother… amen
CuriosityParticipant…n00b
CuriosityParticipantFitT +1 lol
CuriosityParticipantI wasn’t going to be the first to comment because I know girls/women get very defensive about makeup, but now that frummy in the tummy broke the ice, I’m going to be very blunt. First of all, to answer the question, frummy in the tummy is right: It’s definitely a preference thing. To me, the caked-on foundation look might look nice from far away, and in pictures, but not up close. If Hashem made you even mildly naturally appealing then what are you trying to accomplish by looking even better? Hashem made the world in a way that men are naturally attracted to women, and doing things to enhance that attraction where it shouldn’t exist in the first place is inappropriate.
Also, some women who don’t need makeup wear it all the time, and I don’t understand why. Especially if you are married and you don’t have a problem with your natural looks that would make you feel uncomfortable going out in public, then you shouldn’t try so hard to look attractive (unless it’s for your husband.) It causes people to be nichshal.
If you are doing it on a shidduch date then I understand, but you should definitely eventually allow your prospective shidduch to see what you look like without makeup before you get married. It’s good to know what how he responds to your looks (your real looks) when you didn’t put hours of preparation into it. When you are married and living together you won’t always have gallons of make-up on and your hair perfect, so he should know what he’s getting himself into 😉
September 19, 2012 3:33 am at 3:33 am in reply to: How many times did you say Sh’monah Esreh tonight? #1012082CuriosityParticipantOn a more lamdusheh note; why do some poskim hold you do NOT need to repeat shmoneh esre if you don’t have any kavanah during the first brachah (even though lehalacha you would need to repeat davening) because we say it’s not guaranteed you will have kavanah the second time around either, yet on the other hand we say you DO need to repeat shmoneh esre if you forget certain additions. Who’s to say that you won’t space out and forget them the second time around, too? Same Svarah, Different Davening…
CuriosityParticipantAnimals are created to serve us. If they can serve us in death, we have all the right to kill them, no matter how “intelligent” they are.
CuriosityParticipantThere was a bar mitzvah here, but I didn’t attend.
CuriosityParticipantFor the last time, it was an accident!!!
